I discovered some really cheesy but really cool minis recently. I want them. They look cool, but I would never use them so cant really justify getting them.

Are there any miniatures that you want, but because they don't serve a purpose have not gotten?

Here are the ones I found that inspired this... The Valkeeri from Hydra miniatures. Space girls with ray guns in bikinis...

The yellow paint scheme on these look nice... If I ever did get them, I would probably try to mimic that.

Baneblade. It's -1 cp just to use it and you need 3 of them to get regiment bonuses - but damn, it looks so nice.

Malifaux models, hate the game, love the models.

I'm buying the Bones 4 Space Dinosaur troopers. I haven't a clue what I'm going to do with them.

Stormcast Eternals. I really like the look of them. I have too much stuff already to paint, though.

I want a warlord titan just so I can loot it, and thereby basically tell everyone "Yes, I spent ~$1700 dollars and then covered the model is spikes, scrap plates, and rivets just for kicks."

Most things from Forgeworld.. A Sicaran or a Fellblade or anything. Or a 28mm Abrams. Or a Baneblade, an Imperial Knight, there's so many.. The Forgeworld Vulkan. An Imperial Guard Tank company.

Mostly big or impressive things I wouldn't have much use for in a real game.

Sokar Stormbird.

I want to be able to use it once or twice a year and have it be a centerpiece for my 30k/40k army.

A lot of the Warmachine miniatures and Infinity miniatures look great, just no one to play with lol.

I can't justify any of my minis. Every trip to the FLGS is a rollercoaster of lust and shame.


Those retro space heroines look fantastic. Are there any in resin or restic or plastic? I kind of want a squad of Commander Cressida and the Galactic Astronauts.

There's nothing I hate more than not using a painted miniature, so this helps curb my desires. I will go to extreme lengths to justify fielding certain miniatures though (i.e. build an entire army around them...)

20-30 Gal Vorbak.

I love Possessed in 40k, but even with converting the standard model, the Gal Vorbak would look much more awesome than normal possessed - but 50€ for 5 models or 200-300€ just for some Possessed count-as? Nope.

Xenomorphs and Colonial Marines from Prodos. I don't have many board games and play even fewer, and since they are both specific and recognizable models, I can't bring myself to buy any for some other game.

I really want to get into the Warlord Games historicals, either Bolt Action or the Revolutionary War set, but there just aren't enough people to play where I am at. Plus, I swore to myself I would read McCullough's 1776 before buying anything...

I would quite like a Warhound Titan - they're easily my favourite kind of Titan. And I'd love a complete collection of LOTR models, but I'm never going to collect all of them.

As someone who paints way more than games, I have no qualms anymore about buying stuff that I don't have a 'use' for, if it'll be a fun or challenging experience to paint and look shiny on a shelf that's all it takes. But some stuff is just too expensive to justify. FW's Horus is possibly my favourite model of all time, a truly wonderful sculpt, but the £75 it'd cost after shipping is just too much for one model of that size. Similarly, FW's Dain and Thranduil from the Hobbit revival are awesome, but just too expensive for small models.

In general, I'm against spending more than around £13-15 on single 28mm model, and more than around £30 on something Dreadnought-sized. Models larger than that I tend to avoid anyway as I don't particularly enjoy working on tanks or monsters or such. I also struggle to justify anything with ridiculous shipping attached, even if the model is at a price I'm happy with, if there's a huge postage charge attached then I'll usually pass.

Yeah, but I don't have a use for the Magmadroth in my project. Unfortunately, all I really want/need for 90% of my force is a box of standard Berzerkers and a box of Hearthguard, but thats $100US for 15 freaking dwarf models. I would still need the Hearthguard after buying the SC! Box, which ends up being even more.

For me, pretty much any kind of Titan. I do want to join the "Titan Owner's Club" eventually, but right now I could not justify spending that kind of money on a model that would very likely never see any play, to say nothing of being completely beyond my hobbying capabilities. If I could afford a Warlord Titan, I'd buy a used car instead as I do need one of those far more than a giant chunk of resin.

I just got a box of the Japan-only Space Marine heroes. I don't even enjoy 40K anymore...

A Stormsurge and Wraithknight.

Only last week did I finally get to use my Armorcast Baneblade and Imperial Knight - both were purchased when they first came out. My regular opponent essentially told me he never wanted to face them again, and (at least on the baneblade), I can completely understand.

Outside of 40K, the Star Trek Borg Cube w/ Sphere port. It's lovely to look at, but can't ever see me really using it.

Skorne for Hordes.

I thought about playing Hordes some years ago, got the books and started collecting Skorne. I struggle to get any paint on them, but for some reason I feel like catching them all (all the metal one anyway).

So I am still slowly buying Skorne models here and there despite having a Titan on my paint desk for 3+ years now.

I'd love to own a Marauder Destroyer.

Storage however, would be problematic for such a cool model.

The new Archaon model. Price is pretty hefty, I don't play AoS and the model is incredibly intimidating to paint, but god dayum that is one sexy model (ironic considering the only head Dhorgar lacks is that of Slaanesh).

Actually, in all seriousness, the newly teased Sorscha 3 for Khador in Warmachine. I like Khador, I like Sorscha, and I like the Man-o-war armor. I won't play the game again, but I might snag the model to paint up for fun.

Throw on an Angel Giraldez paint job and it's hard for something like that not to look cool. I find myself wanting every miniature he paints, but I'll try to remain satisfied with just admiring his work via the painting books he wrote

I can't justify buying the Skavenblight Scramblers BB team but fortunately it's only twenty quid so I don't have to, I just have to lay off the beer for one Friday night.

Not really fussed by any of the other big-ticket stuff to be honest, I don't like the oversized primarchs because they remind me of the days when He-Man action figures led my Airfix Afrika Korps into battle. The big tanks just won't fit on my 4' square table but I would like a Warhound Titan one day I suppose.

I would love having Cypher due to his design and lore, but I don't like Dark Angels that much, so he would be pretty much useless for me (except if I would put him in my under construction Grey Knight army, which is supposed to be pure Grey Knights, so no). That it is if I got him on ebay seperate. If I got him in the Triumvirate of the Primarchs box, it would be more of a waste, because, I would have a cool looking useless Cypher, a victorious looking Roboute Guilliman that is more useless to me than Cypher (don't know his stats, but I wouldn't use him anyways) and a very useful in this edition Voldus, whose design I don't like much (my tastes are too specific).

Also, I find Sylvaneths, Deathrattle and Seraphon to have really cool looking miniatures, but I don't want to get into Fantasy at this point in time.

Additionally, an Imperial Knight would be a very beautiful miniature to own. but as I said, I want to build a pure army and this one might actually need a lot of painting, to a point where I might eventually get bored.

Pretty much any titan bigger than a Knight - my group's games will never be big enough to warrant something that big.

Also, don't play Marines but I really want the old Captain Invictus model (the terminator captain with the twin-linked plasma and powerfist). I simply LOVE the design. It's a shame that you can't find the thing anywhere and when you do it's been 'converted' to a potato.

As far as I know that figure was a studio conversion using two plasma pistols and a plastic powerfist on the metal captain.

Forge World and Eldar stuff. And both barrels; FW Eldar.

I do deeply covet the Eldar superheavy tanks. But seeing that I only rarely get my Eldar to the table, it’s hard to justify adding too much more to them, much less large centerpiece models I’d almost never use. Heck, I can’t even bring myself to pick up another wave serpent, and my forces could desperately use one. I’d also snap up a box of wraithguard and a wraithlord if money wasn’t an object.

Adding to my marines I can justify. But there is some nice FW stuff I do covet. 30k tops the chart on the “not going to happen” list though. While I’m trying to slowly build up a 30k compliant force, sinking that much cash into a variant I’ve only dabbled in is hard to do.

So many wants, so little time and money.

That army centers around the ships which are far too expensive and far too fragile for my regular gaming.

I wouldn't want to make display pieces out of them because I'm primarily a gamer. And they also made the core troops you need to unlock the ships---if you're playing anything with points---too expensive moneywise. They are essentially Imperial Guard style play.

I love all the big undead stuff - Nagash, the Mortarchs, the Morghasts, the Coven Throne. I can't bring myself to collect an undead army as I can't face buying and painting a million bloody skeletons or zombies, but those guys do call to me...

Armies of miniatures of all types. What drew me into the miniature hobby was seeing regiments or squads of miniatures on a tabletop. The amount of time I play them and to get everything painted does not really make more purchases justifiable. I am really happy for more small squad/warband based games coming out though.

The Blood Knights. I really want a set of 10 but holy geeze those prices. And the fact that they're finecast (and converted metal finecast, not designed-for-finecast finecast. The latter seem to have far less issues than the former) doesn't help matters.

And to add potentially to list on this topic, PanOceania Bolts SWC. Models look great, but they are so hard to justify worth taking in a list that in both Vanilla and NCA when what they are competing for points against is better.

Um, they're not that expensive.

Of course, as a Dogs of War player, my perspective is different from that of a plastic Empire player. The OOP DoW Regiments are generally more expensive that those. At best, they're comparable to where the Daemonettes used to be.

I think that is big money :(.

The DoW are a bit of a mixed bag, the Galloper Gun seems to consistently go for a high price.

Still wrestling with myself whether to get Ma'al Drakkar....


I had an easier time fighting the urge before I painted one up as an anniversary present for a couple of friends.

It was a real pleasure to paint.

For such a big figure, the parts fit together almost seamlessly.

The relatively light weight combined with the big pieces meant that I could paint the bigger parts separately, then put it together before finishing painting.

Like I said, a very nice model, even just to paint...

But, I have no need of a five headed dragon.... I would be forced to run Dragonlance or something.

I know I will never ever get to use them in a game and once complete they will just be left on my shelf, however I absolutely love both models and would love to own them!

If I wanted generic pike, I wouldn't be playing anything with the word "Warhammer" in it.

Quite a bit of Mierce Miniatires range, especially Fomoraic.

I want all the different goats and trolls and beasts, but It`s way to expensive for me.. I might get a few products off of them one day, but there`s too much stuff I haven`t painted or even assembled - I`d feel like an ass to myself, if I just dump 300 pounds worth of minis in to a to do pile

Also, Dark Age. But this one is dangerous - it`s way easier to get, and closer to a rushed buy price bracket

Miniatures in general.

I usually don't have spending money so actually buying minis has become a useless hobby for me.

I usually end up selling other things I don't use anymore to indulge my hobbies...problem is I am now down to the things I won't part with or things I still use.

WHFB mounted minis. I have no desire to play AOS, and the odds of organizing a Mordheim league are next to nil, but they're fun to assemble, and the chariots/monsters disassemble nicely into terrain.

Battlefront's new M247 Sergeant York for Team Yankee. Even though I plan on playing Brits (eventually), I remember all of the Congressional hearings about the Sergeant York before it was cancelled in 1985 (I was 13 years old). I always thought it was an awesome looking tank and will get the kit.

Oh my, those minotaurs look abosutely amazing. The sheer brutality they express is breathtaking. Those would be a joy to paint.

A lot of models from Infinity. IMHO they have the best looking miniatures of all times but since no one plays that game here and I'm already struggling to store my 40k miniatures, with thousands of points of unpainted stuff, I can't really justify buying them

Funny enough, me being disgusted with both 40k and Warmahordes pushed me into historicals (for the most part. Had an interested as well since history has kind of been my thing for a while). Though of course I play other games (mostly being Infinity).

I would really enjoy playing konflikt 47. But I have nobody to play with.

The Darklands stuff from Mierce. Game looks interesting (very crunchy) and the models are cool, but it’s so niche I’d never get to play a game even if I had multiple forces (thanks to the mentioned super-crunchyness)

these new Deathguard models look sweet. thankfully i can paint them on commission to get them out of my system. i tried 8th, but didnt care for it.

Pretty much anything from Scale 75 or Kabuki.

I want separate armies of vostroyans, steel legion and tallarn, even though I got a huge IG army, and I no longer play 40k. I have managed to keep myself from pulling the trigger on those "projects", and I hope my resolve holds up.

I know it's cliche, but a titan maniple from Forgeworld would be up there for me (Just finished reading Warlord: Fury of the God Machine).

And a Legion Glaive, that thing is just too damn cool.

I adore the look of the two Eldar titans. I would love to have a Phantom and two Revenants.

The cost is quite stiff, but if I spread them out, I could do it. But the other problem is I have absolutely no experience with resin monsters like that, so I'm not sure I have the skill to build them well.

Here are the ones I found that inspired this... The Valkeeri from Hydra miniatures. Space girls with ray guns in bikinis...

The yellow paint scheme on these look nice... If I ever did get them, I would probably try to mimic that.

A tricky build in parts (the smokestack in particular was a nightmare) but a great model once it's put together!

The plastic LoC, it's expensive (esp. for a student with a bad exchange rate), I already have a (metal) LoC and both warhammers have slid to the bottom of the list of what I enjoy playing.

GW's Smaug. No need. Don't care about that dead thing Hobbit game of theirs, but that model is death!

Mine aren't around anymore.

I REALLY wanted the Crooked Dice "Time Traveler" minis.

They were basically unofficial Doctor Who minis that included all of the newer Doctors, their companions, and variations on some of them. There were also a few of the older Doctors and their companions.

Then Warlord got the rights and the minis disappeared without a trace. Which is really a shame because the Warlord ones look... not good, to me.

Moral of the story: if it's a model you want and will enjoy, get it while you can. You never know if it may become unavailable before you can figure out how to use it.

I want to kitbash Mortarion and the new Great Unclean One to create a giant fat flying primarch,

but that's far to expensive to do on a whim, sigh

The new Newcromunda for me. Too many games already to justify.

40K Tau, mostly because of total cost, general consensus that they suck, and that I finally escaped 40k years ago.

Seraphon for AoS, last time I played fantasy was during 6th edition and early AoS really turned me off.

15mm Gangsters from Blue Moon.

Why? I have no idea! Wouldn't you want a skirmish scale gangster game to be 28mm? Yes. Then why choose 15mm?

Easier to paint and store..... maybe?

I really love the new plastic lord of change model, and I would love to build and paint it, but I know I would be temped to build a whole tzeentch army around it and like all other new armies I would give up halfway through when other new shinies come along. Though I'm assuming with the new chaos demons codex I could have 1 army that I can play in both 40K and AoS? And I do have all of those Tzeentchy things for Silver Tower just sitting there, staring at me...

Same goes for the big plastic knights for 40k. I daydream little fantasies of having an army full of like 10 of them stomping everything.. along with a couple of FW reavers and a warlord titan mixed in too for spice. That's my won-the-powerball army.

And then there's the all big mech Tau army I wanna to do, with FW models mixed in for spice too.

a box of Space Marines. I havne't painted a GW marine since the initial box of Marines back in the RT era. They are expensive and I don't play 40k but some nice models that would be fun to paint.
