Thought I’d add a little more as the title post describes

The first picture, is of the suicide squad, 9 little Demolition tanks starting from number 2, as number one was clearly a tester.

the second picture contains a few guardsmen with inquisitor, priest and an ogryn bodyguard (the bot with shield)

The third is of one of my converted knights, like many projects 2/3s finished and probably how it's going to stay.

The fourth is another less converted knight this time a lancer. He was painted before the start of my soup army.

I've a thanatar and domitar lined up for painting and they will be in a similar grey/red to the thallax and knight.

C&C welcome, thanks for looking.

Today’s update:

Quite a productive Sunday afternoon. Managed to paint up 5 troopers, 1of which will be going into 6 man special weapon squad of 3 flamers.

I also managed to convert my first Sgt with bolter, more of a test than anything and I think it worked very well, the bolter is from the sisters of silence kit.

Next up I’ll be doing some more troopers and possibly a princess for a Titan and a Knight commander.

I like the title of the blog, the building of a great combined imperial force sounds like it will be fun to follow. Good luck on that warhound. Also I like the idea of using a bot to act as an ogryn, I'm not much of a fan of them.

Thanks Syro,

The Warhound has actually been put on the back burner due to needing so much work. I’d rather get the army done than the toys.

Cheers for the nice words about the ogryn, I’m not a massive fan of the models either and he’ll be getting a few friends when I find some spare imperial knight shields and sentinel saws.

Looks interesting, I'll be following this- do I see some Solar Auxilia there too?

15 Jun: Bretonnian Peasant Army completed @ 2018/06/05 18:10:01

Post by: howie

Good evening there are certainly some solar auxillia. I’ve currently got 60 with las rifles, 10 with flamers & 10 with power axes. I think I’ll be getting more with las rifles and possibly some more flamers. Love the models, though I wish they were about 10% smaller especially the flamers they look huge in comparison to some guard Miniatures.

Today’s offerings. I made a start on a Mechanicum domitar, which I’ll more than likely use as a penitent engine. I’ll be giving it a orange plasma glow on its forearm bolters to imitate the flame looks, when I get my airbrush back up and running.

I’ve also got 4 characters, 1 of which is a lot further along than the others.

Sebastian Yarrick, I presume? Nice work man :-)

Yep Yarrick is looking good, getting ready to chance some orcs around Armageddon from the looks of him. The other three characters look good too, who are they?

15 Jun: Bretonnian Peasant Army completed @ 2018/06/07 12:47:02

Post by: howie

Yup it certainly is Commisar Yarrick, the Hero of Armageddon. He's one of those models I've had for ages and just never got around to painting till now.

The other three are:
Knight Commander - going to be used as Pl Commander
Lord Solar Macharius - going to be used as either a Coy commander or Creed.
Then a mini from Hasslefree who will be used as either a Pl Commander or an inquisitor.

Should hopefully have pictures up tonight of the work done on the Domitar.

This weekend I thought I’d have a little break from robots and infantry so I did my first Leman Russ punisher. It’s based on a chimera chassis as I’m not a massive fan of the leman Russ one. Hopefully you like it.

I did make Do a little work on some characters and grunts I really like the knight commander and think he fits in seemlessly with the solar auxilia.

I also finished painting most of the domitar. Just more transfers and battle damage to go.

I like how the tank came out. Did you use an air brush for the camo pattern? The mural on the dozer blade is a nice touch.

15 Jun: Bretonnian Peasant Army completed @ 2018/06/10 17:12:34

Post by: howie

Yus I did use an airbrush. (One that is on its last legs while I await a replacement.)

Thanks the mural was one of a view, I’ve taken from our history and the 40k guard history to decorate the dozer blades.

Thanks for the kind words have a good day.

There was another guy on the facebook group for astra militarum/ imperial guard. Who lead the way, so I followed as I thought it was a great way to add some more character to the tanks.

So here we have the first Thanatar. Just block colours done so far. Don’t especially know what I’m going to do with plasma weapon. It will more than likely have to wait till I get my good airbrush back as the current one isn’t fine enough.

In games I’ll be using it as a immobile artillery piece. Or when the time come for Forgeworld to release there next book hopefully it’ll be in there.

Looking sweet, is that the graviton ram mounted on its shoulder? I prefer the look of that over the other weapons options. Out of curiosity, did you build it with swap-able weapons? I didn't realize that rules and stats hadn't been released for it yet, I hope you can use it to its full potential soon.

15 Jun: Bretonnian Peasant Army completed @ 2018/06/13 15:40:35

Post by: howie

Hi,

It’s just the standard one with the plasma mortar and mauler bolt cannon. I’m not really big on magnets to be honest. I don’t know how swappable the weapons would be between the two thanatars. I don’t think you can buy them separately either.

I just meant the rules for using it in 40k there was meant to be a FW book about tau encroaching on a mechanicum world with rules for these kind of toys.

Cheers for the comment bud.

After a bit of a delay due to my own slowness to mail it out I have received my airbrush back, thankfully I have also received reinforcements fresh of the factory floor. These 11 new chimeras will be getting the same treatment as the previous, I just need to weather the internet storm and win some more turrets on auction sites.

On another note I’ve been reading the dark imperium book. 200pages deep so far, while I was a bit on the fence of how I felt regarding primarchs returning in now decided I’m glad they have. As the book is packed full of character for Gulliman. It’s really fleshed him out for me.

It’s also thrown something in my head. To do an ultramar defence army. Lots of conversions to show how advanced they are thanks to there primarch and Cawls influence. Stand by in case I decide to do that.

Hi there Mac. Yeah I did take a short cut. I made my own transfers using a laser printer. All my chimeras will be having a mural on the dozer blade, I’ve found a few more for the others.

Cheers for the kind words bud.

Cool... I didn't want to assume you couldn't paint beautiful free hand on a tiny scale, but I'd have definitely been looking for a shortcut too. Did you just cut to fit, glue, and seal it somehow, or was there more than that?

Nope it was just as you described. Cut to shape. Seal it then weather it a bit. Sadly I can’t paint that good at any scale never mind at such a small scale

A bit more work done on the first gorgon. Mostly just camo and battle damage with transfers added. Still to do are details like wiring and the two twin linked heavy stubbers. Going to see if I can manage to swap the crew from Krieg to solar auxilia as they’re obviously the models I’m using.

I’ve also attached the original picture of the gorgon how I received it from eBay. Poor beast she was in need of plenty of TLC.

Cheers. C&C welcome.

Morning folks,

Some eBay wins have landed there way to me. So I’ve started on some more leman russes. They will be of a similar ilk to the last ones. Turret at the back. Although they’ve got vanquisher cannons I’ll be running them as standard Lemans. I just prefer the longer barrel as it looks more in keeping with modern tanks. I’ll be trying to find some more stowage before they get painted up.

C&C greatly appreciated.

Have a good day.

Just a quick update to show where I’ve gotten with my 3 new leman russes.

I was thinking about trying to scour the internet for 3 annihilators turrets of the same design. As twin lascannon seems superior to the vanquisher cannon? Anybody had much experience?

Hopefully I’ll be able to put on some camo and weathering by close of play today.

Another Sunday, another few troopers done. These will be members in infantry squads and part of command squads.

Got five more to do. I should probably work on some more infantry as they’re looking pretty light on the ground.

As well as these I’ve also been making another punisher. Which will be bringing the total to five.

Any comments and criticisms appreciated. Enjoy the weekend.

1) Love the use of artwork as murals on large plates!
2) Yaaas! I LOVE that Hasselfreenian female inquisitor/wich hunter. Your choice to include her immediately makes you awesome in my book.
3) I like that you’re keeping the infantry in olive and brown for the most part and aren’t letting the bling be too much.

Morning ChaoticMind, Thanks for the kind words!

I can't take full credit for the murals on the large paint, I saw it on a Facebook imperial guard page, then I copied and multiplied it.

The hasslefree miniature has been in my bits box for ages. As I was actually meant to order the pure fantasy one for a empire army for Warhammer Fantasy, but least now she's got a space and a lick of paint.

I've seen the Solar Auxilia in various colour schemes, mostly bright colours and i thought they would really suit being in a more regular military colour.

Thanks again!

Evening folks.

Nobody asked but I thought I’d show a step by step of my camo on two of my new tanks.

First photo shows the base coat which is Vallejo USA Flat Brown

The second photo shows applying my first camo stripes. Trying to keep away from just doing straight lines.

The third photo shows Minitaires saddle brown matching the camo stripes.

After doing these I’ll then move onto doing the tracks, barrels and other metal gubbins.

Don’t really know what to do for the mine plow. I’m torn between trying to do hazard stripes or just going easy and doing it a fun metal.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the step by step of how you do your tank camo. As for the mine plow I'm personally not a fan of hazard stripes so metal would get my vote. Ultimately your call of course, but if you do go with metal maybe take the opportunity to really grit and weather it up?

To be fair I’ve got three mine ploughs, so I’ll try a hazard stripe on the first. See how it goes. No doubt it’ll go wrong, then I will heavily weather it so it looks good from afar, but far from good.

Thanks for the kind words. Keeping me motivated. Have a good evening.

Ha you’d be surprised. At work I were MTP camo. The amount of times you have to wear high vis clothing so you can be seen is laughable. Often said phrases are “oooooh a floating jacket” or “make up your mind, do you want to be seen or hidden”.

Anywho, I have made no progress on that tank. As I’ve had a delivery of the terrain type. Some more bits of scatter terrain created with some industrial vehicles.

The chimera will be used as terrain and also as an atlas recovery tank if I ever get the urge.

Have a good evening all.

It’s the generator. To bloody big, I had thought of taking a saw to it. But I didn’t want to ruin it with my blundering hands. I’ll have a look at it later and see if there’s anything else I can do.

In other news I’ve picked up a battered hellhammer off Facebook for £20. Let’s see if it can be retrofitted back to its former glory As a hammer of the emperor.

So no progress on the crane as I’ve been away from home for a week. However I did take in a few deliveries.

First of which to grace my table was a humble baneblade. It had been touched by the hands of chaos quite literally.
It was missing it’s front wheels, the tracks and sides had been put together with hot glue and it’s been sprayed and resprayed losing some of the details. I couldn’t resist as it was only £20 including postage.

I have spares of some of the missing bits, mostly blood and skulls industry spares of past projects.

The second was from Nuclear Shrimp I think the company was called. It’s for there own range of miniatures. But to me for all intense and purposes it’s a 8mm Lucius pattern warhound. To go with this I’ve. Bought some 3D prints of Lucius pattern warhound. If anyone knows where to get a Lucius reaver kit to update the plastics I’m all ears.

Also while I haven’t had much chance to do any painting I did get a game in against some DKK, I’ve added a photo using an FX app as I’m a sucker for those type of things.

Syro, I’ll be able to put a comparison with the new plastics when they arrive in the post.

The baneblade is proving tricky. The wheels where put on incorrectly as well. Meaning I had to take them off, but with the hot glue remnants it is proving difficult to place them where there meant to be.

Minigiant, any thoughts as what to use as a base model? Like conventional horses, bikes or something all together new?

So a little work on the Lucius pattern warhound for AT18. Honestly, I know it’s not the best. But I just couldn’t give the green any more depth. Any thoughts of how to get it better?

Apart from that. I enjoyed my little tree addition to its base. I may give it a little autumnal spray to make it fit better with the base and blend less with the Titan.

Private_Benjamin, no worries there. It’s taking some time thanks to it being attacked with crazy glue but it will get there. I’m using the aggressor tracks. I think that’s what they’re called. They look very aggressive probably leaning towards chaos than imperium as far as aesthetics go. Also I’ve got there power plant with the big smoke stacks instead of the little ones the original comes with.

Kid_Kyoto, yeah Nuclear Shrimp, it’s a little company based in Corfu (Greece). It took a while to get here, but it was certainly worth the wait for me. I am very impressed. The resin had a few slippage marks. But nothing overly concerning.

For those that wanted a size comparison here is the Lucius compared to the Mars. I started painting my Fureans Warlord yesterday. Base yellow, metals and flames done. I’ve tried a few golds and brass and can’t decide on the trim colour as none look particularly right next to the yellow. Ideas?

Good evening it’s been a while. Work and real life interfering with the hobby.

Been working on my AT. But nothing worthy of photos.

The guard however have been moving forward. The tank factory still rolling them out. From left to right we have an annihalator battle tank awaiting a turret and tracks. The tank commander is still in his packaging. The commissar. Ready to pop any tank which flees.

The Recce tank, I wasn’t fully behind the last version I made but I think this is certainly a step in the right direction. If I find some spare crew I think it’ll really look good. Make it pop. Pondering over whether to paint it in camo colours or a more civilianised red/ yellow scheme.

Then furthest right we have a completed annihalator awaiting paint.

Hope this is good update for you. C&C welcome.

Custom conversions are always more interesting that putting something together "by the bool" and with being said your creations are not only unique, but very cool, especially the Recovery / Wrecker Tank!

Cheers Benjamin.

I do like the conversions, ideally I'd like GW to just update the Leman Russ, or add in another heavy tank. My true want, would be to have the Macharius variants become heavy supports and plastic.

A man can hope right?

So today I'll mostly be focusing on base coating 2 annihilators, a demolisher and the recovery tank.

Hi guys thanks for the kind comments. Really keeping me motivated to see the project through to the end (Is there ever an end to an Imperial Guard project? )

Yeah I'm using some flame stencils from Anarchy. I cannot recommend them enough. I've used them on multiple projects, from just putting red stars on tanks to putting leopard spots on Knarlocs. All of which have been better than my freehand could ever achieve.

For sure. There's me thinking I'd have to print, cut out and set ca. 300 red star decals. Nope. Just stencil the [Expletive Deleted]. It'll save me hours and hours and much ballache.

Awesome. I have some flame stencils from a similar company, fallout hobbies I think. Do you airbrush after putting the stencil on? Spray can? Paint brush?

Do you have to mask away the rest of the model, or presumably you do that before putting the plates on?

There's a video on the link. They fold out to make a little 'bucket' to catch overspray and they say they're not recommended for paint-brushing.

My plan is to use sponge, 'cause I don't have an airbrush.

I just use my airbrush. I haven’t had any overspray on The rest of the model. The sponge method also works well. Also can add depth if you sponge in different shades.

There are a multitude of Leman Russ turret options, one of the best companies is called "Blood and Skulls Industry"

Here is their webstore, which is set up on eBay : https://www.ebay.ca/str/bloodandskullsindustry?_sop=15&rt=nc

I have purchased bits from them before, here is my Photo Album : https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-91110-58698_Blood%20And%20Skulls%20Industry.html

A relatively large update as far as the motor pool goes tonight.

I’ve managed to basecoat, put on transfers and battle damage the 4 latest tanks up. Over the weekend I’ll pick out weapons, stowage, lenses, crew and all the other bits I notice that need extra paint.

I’m super happy with the look of these tanks. I think if I do decide to get another batch I’ll more than likely get the dremel out on them. Propererly bash and tear them up.

Well enough of my jibba jabba. Pictures!

Cheers ZB. Not really recent. Think I bought it around May. They’re done with transfer paper and pictures found online.

I seem to have been tainted. When I happened upon the new Delaque miniatures. My vision blurred and my brow went sweaty. The heresy grasped me. I thought they’d make great cultist mixed in with the FW bits I have from years ago.

This conversion spewed forward from now tainted mind. It’ll be used as a wyvern. It’ll more than likely have a lot of brothers and sisters. Thinking a chaos siege army.

Good evening my epic adventure continues.

I’ve went with a Ultramar paint scheme. Having read the dark imperium book recently I thoroughly enjoyed all the bits in there pertaining to the ultramar sector. With this in mind I thought I’d do a PDF force.

If I thought I was hard painting 28mm heroic figs I was sorely mistaken in comparison to these 6mm Miniatures. I’m pretty worried about the infantry I’m not going to lie. I can barely see the details never mind pick it out.

Anybody got any good advice?

Good evening,

@Stonned_Astartes. Yeah I printed them myself. Got the files of Thingiverse.

So I’m been very slow as of late. Really just haven’t had any drive to paint or even glue Miniatures together. Tonight however I broke through the barrier and nearly finished two titans.

I’ve got to finish the plasma weapons on the warhound and the right leg of the warlord. Obviously neither of the bases are done. I will be going for a mars red planet for the bases.

Any C&C welcome

Thanks spyro. I’ve never played either. But with the advent of Adeptus Titanicus I fell in love with the small scale. I’ve got another 50 troops with 5 heavy weapons to do. Shouldn’t take much time at all. The bases won’t be staying as mud that was just done so I could see if they looked more finished. They’ll be getting the Martian dust treatment.

I have been rather bad as of late if posting anything on here.

I’ve got back into lord of the rings, do I have been painting some hobbits and searching the hobby cave for more as I’m sure I’ve got some more. I’ve painted a few more of AT and I’ve made a cast of some 8mm 40k cargo containers. Which I will be using to make a large board. Least that’s the plan. We will see what comes of it.

Here’s a picture of the casts. There’s a few minor bubbles which I don’t mind in something so small. I’ve sprayed these a mix of red and gun metal. I’ve done no weathering on them.

So as per normal I’ve slunk back into a project which I though was long dead. My 30k mechanicus. Up on the painting block today we have the thanatar. I’ve got a few of these as I love the model, it ooozes horrible 30k siege warfare to me. Which is what I’ll be using it as in 40k more than likely just proxying it as some some of short range artillery or a demolishers leman Russ.

Obviously the base is still who. The blue foam bits will be rocks.
Hope you like it, thoughts?

Nice to see a thanatar at work - they are such a rare sight.

Love the work on the epic models - the pace of change in the 3d printer space is awesome, and the tech has come such a long way since it was first displayed on Dakka (where it was quite frankly useless). Your output is better than some of the GW stuff of yesteryear

Reference the epic models. I merely printed them. I haven’t got the skills required to do the rendering and what not. But you’re right 3D printing has come on leaps and bounds. That’s why I decided to jump on and get one.

This week I have largely just been trying to improve my ability to paint human flesh. I’ve been doing this on two different versions of Spanish conquistador heads. I’ve never managed to get human flesh particularly well. I’ve got a lot of these heads I think about 100 in total. I’ll be using these on the fireforge fantasy range when they’re delivered hopefully in April/ May time.

I’ve also done a few fantasy humans. More of these guys to come

Good evening fine folk!

Today I have been finishing off some fantasy heroes I’ve had for about 5years in a bits box. The two ladies and noble on foot are from hasslefree Miniatures. I had a lot of fun with the noble/ bodyguard. Just really quite characterful as I’ve come to expect from the hasslefree line. The two female knights where ok to paint. I didn’t really have any great feelings towards them. Just knew they had to be done.

The mounted knight is a currently a mix of models from GW. The green knight horse with a Kislev lancer on top. He’s the only mounted hero I could find with a suitable pose at the moment. This may change when I get my order fireforge.

Hope you guys are liking my fantasy offerings, thoughts, comments?

Ha, very little love for the fantasy? Oh well, persistence always pays off right?

I’ve been fumbling around with some shields this afternoon. They’re going on my peasants which are MOM miniature. They’re a little rough casting, but for the price of the Miniatures I’m not fussed. They also kind of suit it for being peasants. I used painting maskers tape to create the designs. I had a few bits of paint peel off, tried to hide this with showing the bare wood behind the design, hopefully this has worked? Thoughts?

Enough of my waffle shields.

Thoughts and comments?

Bit more work on the peasants today. 20 down. 20 to go. Need to make a banner still, don’t know what I’ll make that out of, will have to have a look for a raggedy looking thing.

I am really enjoying how they’re coming together and looking like a formed body of men. Glad I’ve used various designs on the shields I think they give it that men at arms feeling.

Well I hope you’ve enjoyed the update, plenty more to come from the peasants!

I don't know about 'rough and ready': you've got good technical skills (staying within the lines, as it were- nice clean coverage), a nice eye for color and good transition between armor/metals and cloth. Overall, very nice table-ready work and a bit above, in my opinion. The shields are very well done and add an element of unity across the more muted colors of the clothing and armor. I very much enjoy dropping in to see what you've got up to!

@meer_Cat. Thank you very much! Some truly inspirational words. I’m glad you like the shields, they’ve easily been my most enjoyable aspect of the models.

@zahnib. Any references? I think I prefer written instructions. As I’ve watched YouTube videos and I can’t focus in between the video and painting my Miniatures.

Sunday’s antics, started another 14 peasants to add to the other 25, should of been 15. But I couldn’t find it. It showed up when I was about 60% of the way through painting. I was livid. Haha.

So I did a banner today using some transfer paper. I did also do some fleur de lises to add to the shields but sadly they didn’t work. The banner isn’t complete yet. In fact only the front rank have shields so far. But I thought I’d put them up and hopefully get some feedback.

Much appreciated,
Howie

Argh, yeah unfortunately pretty much all the guides I'm thinking of are videos. I like to make written instructions for myself from the videos, I find that gets the steps into my head and then if I do need to check a step I've got it written down. I quite like the outcome of this video

So as my mind is a whirling mess of hobby ideas. I have once again changed direction. I’ve moved on to some undead grave guard. I think I’ll be using the undying legion rules as I don’t want vamps. I just want a barrow legion of lots of skeletons babbling forward. So these are some models that I actually cast from resin from the old 6th edition? grave guard models. Still not finished but there far enough along that I thought I could take a photo.

Hi Syro,

These are for Warhammer Fantasy 8th and 6th edition and also for the 9th age. The actual casting of the models is pretty poor, I’ve had to use plastic skeleton weapons as the resin didn’t take to the mould to kindly. But i used this to my advantage and now they have more variety.

I’ve also found some more and even 10 or so of the dead ironbreaker from Rickter Krueger’s unit. I’ll get a photo of them up when I’m further along with them.

Thanks for the kind words and interest!

I’ve currently done 42 grave guard with the mix in of dwarfs. I’ve got another 6 dwarfs to paint. They don’t go in with grave guard batch painting as they’re very different paint wise. All armour and very little cloth. Very little bone in fact. I’ve also still got to do the command group for the unit.

I was initially going to keep them in the paint scheme they came with because I’m lazy. But hen as I’m painting the grave guard I’m enjoying them so I thought I may as well update the command group and BSB to match th unit.

Not a great deal of traction to be honest. I’ve just been on holiday and I’m moving house and country on Friday so things have been progressing slowly. I havent got any human infantry left to paint or undead so I moved on to some recently purchased dark elves.

Photo deleted. Photo bucket issues.

I was tossing up the idea of painting them with a blue hue to the skin. But after seeing my skills in action I chose to do a more regular pale elf skin.

Finding the actual war machine the hardest thing to paint.

Hope you enjoy,
Thanks.

@Stormatious thanks the models are great. Helps, as I like them so I want to paint them.

@Llamahead Yeah I too was pleasantly surprised with the 3D printer. It is a steep learning curve and for someone who is lazy like myself it can be a proper choir to clean but I’d recommend them. The humans are MOM miniatures. Again I love the figures. They’re only three pieces, so relatively easy to put together, but there’s a lot of prep work before painting.

@Syro, thanks I’ve now been living in my flat now for just over a week so there is progress on the painting and modelling table.

Warhammer characters, left to right
Dark elf noble
Merchant Prince
Human/ bretonnian knight
Damsel

I’m just rattling off stuff while I’m waiting for my kickstarter to come in.

Good evening all, no bites for the characters. I’m looking st some YouTube videos to try and improve the faces before I touch that merchant prince. I believe him to be far to fancy for my kak handed approach at the moment.

I’ve got these shields from gripping beasts and the transfers are from little big men studios. Now I’ve used these before but I’m still not entirely happy with my application.

The Shields are for my Bretonnia/ Dogs of war men at arms models which will be equipped with swords/ Spears/ Halberds, Well when they arrive. I think I prefer the red ones as the colour match I’ve done with the paint where the transfers don’t lap round is better.

Thanks for looking!

Good evening gentle folk!

I have worrying news from abroad. A master necromancer awakes!

Having seen the AOS night haunt range it really struck a chord deep within me of skellies and ghosts rampaging theoufh the lands. Thus this new army was created. I’ll be using the undead legion rules to make this army taking full advantage of a mix of Khemri and VC units.

The skellies themselves are from warlord games and are the repurposed war games factory skeletons. They were relatively painless to put together, the price was generous enough to persuade me into getting 180 of the little buggers. I’ve put together the first box of 90 so far.

Well I hope you enjoy the next project.

Little bit of colour on one of the banshees. I've used the GW nighthaunt paints. I enjoyed how easy they were to use. But I ask myself if I could have done better using traditional methods like paint it the old fashioned way. Haha

Hope you enjoy her. Any thoughts or ideas on how to improve it?

@amazingturtles. Thanks, it's a wash so it brings out the skull quite well.

@Flapjack. Thanks I enjoy doing shields for whatever reason I think they can really add value to otherwise plain models. I'll be doing similar banners in the future for sure, watch this space.

This evening I've been updating some old school skeletons. These were before my time I think. The oldest skeletons I remember where of similar design but had metal command bits and the round shields and the emblems you stuck on. I bought these on eBay for about £20 for the unit and have rebased them and just washed them as they'd been sprayed or painted really heavily.

Hope you enjoy.

Saturday was spent painting and basing a unit of 24 warlord games skeletons. I've switched the shields for some others which though larger than I initially thought I prefer over the ancient ones.

I'm going to a tournament on the 8th of june. While I was submitting my ogre army list, I had a thought of taking my undead. Critically, I only have 50 skellies painted for the army which starts out with 107 and then raises more.

So an entire army in 2weeks seems do able right?

Here's my start anyways!

Lets see, call it 70 skeletons for easy math, 14 days is... 5 a day. Done to the 3ft rule (looks fine at 3 ft) that seems doable. It will be hard and you probably wont even want to see a skeleton for the following month but we have faith in you!

Warlord Games skeletons ok? Hmm the Wargames Factory versions were the only kit I ever looked at and immediately gave up on seperaye feet and horribly spindly arms to start with.

Post by: howie

@Syro, thanks the skellies are coming on great. They're currently all washed, do just need weapons and armour doing. Then they are to be based.

@Chaoticmind, can't argue with your math. But it is 11 skinwolves, a necromancer and then 100skellies. 30 of which are still on the sprue. But it is very achievable with my basic paint job. Thanks.

@Stormatious, Thanks for the kind words. Keeping me motivated to get an entire army together.

@Llamahead, These are the wargames factory skellies. Warlord bought the rights to them I guess. At first the feet were a pain. But honestly when I set it all up into a production line it was easy.

Hope you've all had a great weekend, I'll have more to show today!

Also here's the list I'll be taking, we were allowed to take units from other books as mercenaries as a rare choice. It seemed appropriate to me to take maneaters as with the exception of the dogs of ear book, the biggest mercenaries going.

Spoiler:

+ Lords +

Master Necromancer [245pts]: Lore of the Vampires, Master of the Dead, The General of Undeath, Wizard Level 4
Magic Items: BRB - Dispel Scroll

+ Heroes +

Tomb Banshee [95pts]

+ Core +

Skeleton Warriors [240pts]: Champion, Musician, 42x Skeleton Warrior, Standard Bearer

Skeleton Warriors [255pts]: Champion, Musician, 45x Skeleton Warrior, Standard Bearer

Skeleton Warriors [130pts]: Champion, Musician, 20x Skeleton Warrior, Standard Bearer

+ Special +

Crypt Horrors [238pts]: Champion, 6x Crypt Horror

Crypt Horrors [200pts]: Champion, 5x Crypt Horror

Grave Guard [470pts]: Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer
40x Grave Guard: 40x Shield

++ Total: [1,873pts] ++

Maneaters [426pts]: 6x A Brace of Ogre Pistols, Bellower, Champion, Poisoned Attacks, Sniper, Standard Bearer
6x Maneaters: 6x Heavy Armour

Maneaters [197pts]: 2x A Brace of Ogre Pistols, Great Weapon, Swiftstride, Vanguard
3x Maneaters: 3x Heavy Armour

++ Total: [623pts] ++

I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable weekend with three good games!

Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell

It feels like an age since I've posted in here. Sadly I had to go back to the old work place and sort some problems out which would of been fine if I'd managed to take some paints with me alas. It's been weeks without the paints and toys.

Tonight was the first time in nearly 2months I've been able to paint and with that time I though some paint on some human characters which will be used in my dogs of war army. I'm going for a very neutral look. Hopefully they still look characterful

@Syro, glad you like the necromancer. I think my next one will be a generic looking necromancer instead of an all mighty master of the dead.

@Mallo, I think most of the new stuff can be encorporated into the existing range with square bases. For the most part they tower above, which is cool as it demonstrates there powers.

I think they've both got character. I prefer the old mini as you can just see the story behind him getting to the battlefield would be one full of adventure, heartache and revenge.

Painted another few metals up. One from the Albion campaign. Easily one of my favourite campaigns as its set around my blighted isle. Haha.

I've also started on a griffon which will be used using the storm of magic/ monstorous arcanum rules. Looking forward to putting tiger stripes or spots on him.

Good Morning,

@IGtR=, Much appreciated, i think the kits merge quite well. I've got the new black coach which will be in the mix shortly so hopefully something new there as well.

ChaoticMind, I know what you mean. I bought it for a tournament next year where you can use the monster rules from storm of magic and while the model is a bit dated, it cost me £10 and the only other griffon I've seen which i liked cost £30 plus postage. Maybe when it's all painted up and looking better than it currently is it might change your mind

The Riddle of Steel, thanks there's still more skeletons to get through. I've just put together 30 archers, 30 spearmen and another 30 swordsmen. I just need to get the motivation to paint them.

In other news, I tried my 3D printer last night to try and make some undead ogres. I found a 28mm skeleton and printed it at 150% scale which should be about the right size. I'll see when I get home.

regards,
Howie.

Hi howie,
Great old skelliebobs mixed with new necromancer! Is he stable on the tiny base or does he get magnetised/blu-tac’d To the movement tray?
I think you were right that the main sculpt is the same as Stormwing that I just tarted up, though the wings are clearly different and the head on yours seems ever so slightly larger. I seem to recall an Empire Griffon released at a similar time, that was slightly different. Perhaps that’s the one you’ve bought?
I’m quite biased but like the griffon so far, though it seems there are much more dynamic ones out there now! I was tempted to try my hand at tiger stripes on mine, but haven’t yet plucked up the courage, is that your plan for the hind quarters?

Hi Gobert,

Definite similarities with the griffon, probably the same sculptor. The plan is either Tiger stripes or some sort of leopard spots. Unsure at the moment, I've seen many great examples of both, going to try some leopard spots on the old undead giant bats and see how they look. Then I'll make my choice from there.

The master necromancer is indeed magnetised to the base, I think without it he'd fall on the skellies and see out his battles that way.

Thanks for the nice comments, I will try and have an update this evening.

Not been feeling it recently. However, on Friday I got news of my Kickstarter order from fireforge being posted. I then got the motivation needed to finish the undead army to make way for my new incoming army.

To that end then, here's two mourguls I've been working on this afternoon, they'll be used as my Varghulfs for an upcoming tournament.

I then went and did the first bit of basing on the spear skellies. Just need to add the snow to the base to finish them off.

I then went and sprayed another 45 skeletons and washed them ready for doing the weapons. A real bang to end my weekend of hobby progress.

@syro, oh I think they're definitely based on dead Greeks! I'd just rather they were Vikings or some medieval Nation.

Nice, the yellow and skin came out looking good. I kinda think they could use a spot color or something below the shoulders, possibly a belt or yellow the pants or something, because the black to yellow transition is kinda abrupt, but overall still nice work.

Cool army shots Howie! The 8cm pike looks like a recipe for stabbing yourself, but it’s pretty cool and is, relative to the model, the size of pike I’d want if I were a pikemen facing down a charging knight!

Great colour scheme for the Estalian . What’s going on with his right hand tho? His fingers are freaking me out!

Afternoon Gobert,

I don't know about stabbing myself ha, they're only Plastic after all. But I hope they'll be cool and think they fit the size of a Pike pretty well to boot!

That's just how the model came sadly, MOM miniatures, while his casting is prone to a bit of mold slippage I honestly can't fault it for the price I paid.

Are the 8cm pikemen going to primarily stay at home or regularly schlepped to games?

If they're more for display I'd go for it but if they need to travel I'd look into brass or copper rod/tubing instead at that length.

The Estalian is looking good, I just fear for your sanity doing an army in stripe-y pants even with the aid of contrast.

Hi Chaotic mind, thanks for the kind words regarding the Estalian. It's ironic that a user by the name of Chaotic Mind is worried about my sanity hahaha.

I'll break up painting the stripey uniform by various other unscheduled hobby projects.

They'll be used primarily as a display army as I rarely get a chance to game. However they'll see table top play. I've tested the fireforge pikes and they bend under stress instead of snapping so I think I'll be good. They'll be moved in a container and not a carry case so hopefully that'll minimise damages, thanks again for the concern.

Thanks for stopping by and I should have an update tonight of a character from the recent MOM Kickstarter.

Good evening, as promised earlier I have an update in the form of my Estalians.

He's going to be either a unit champion or a cheap hero with GW. Thoroughly enjoying painting these MOM miniatures. They're packed with character. The casting is not the best, however for the price per model paid on the recent Kickstarter I think they are fantastic value.

I've got another hero/ champion with greatweapon coming up and also just a regular trooper.

Slightly crazed looking men in with red hair and large blunt weaponry are always a good idea in my opinion!

Glad to hear the pikes have some spring to them. Actually getting games in on a semi-regular basis has made me a lot more interested in the damage resistance of sculpts.

And of course I’m concerned with maintaining the sanity of others around these parts! We have so little to begin with it must be protected! Besides, where am I going to ste, er, get ideas and learn new techniques if we’re all as bonkers as me?

I really think and hope you agree the red hair has come out very well. If he was a bit shorter and more stocky I dare say he'd make a great dwarf Slayer.

Speaking of losing my sanity. Here is what the Pikemen will look, with a mix of heads from the Greatswords kit and various Morion helmets, which is what the conquistadors used to wear I believe. I'll be using the Warhammer armies project Dogs of War book and I've decided I was either 2 units of 60 or 3 of 50. Decisions decisions.

If you see any ideas you want to steal/ be inspired by crack on, God knows I probably liberated this idea from somewhere and have forgotten where.

Saturdays reinforcement. Some crossbowmen and riflemen. I'm happy with how these are turning out. I think for troopers I'll keep them yellow like this as it is phenomenally easier.

@Pomander Cask, thank you very much. I've found out that the mom miniatures are fairly large compared to the greatsword bodies. So he'll look even more imposing in that unit.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

Thanks Syro and Gobert. I think it really helps that I am enjoying painting these guys and I can't wait to have a painted bright yellow force of humans ready to take the old world back inch by inch.

I've painted up the last of my current models making 20 missile troops in total. I have also received my pavises from Fireforge games. Bigger than I expected but I think they look suitable. Certainly worthy of the +2 armour save against ranged attacks. Going to make some small movement trays shortly for my 5/6 man detachments.

Thanks guys! Hopefully I'll get the other pavises done tomorrow and complete there movement bases. I was hoping to do the same for the gunners. But I don't know if they'll look right as they're not taking aimed shots or really positioned as if they're ready to shoot.

No painting progress has been made. I did however manage to complete my 3 3by2 movement trays for some of my detachments. Not really photo worthy though so I didn't snap them.

As I'm hoping to have nearly 200hundred pikemen I thought I'd try and save on time gluing and money on buying all those greatsword miniatures. So here's the results, I've made a mould and when I get some more resin I'll be casting more up.

Not much of an update. But enough to update my blog. So I've bought some new resin and some new, silicone to make a new mold. The resin has a much quicker setting time which is a God send as my original resin took two hours.

I'm getting mixed results with the new resin, it's better in that it doesn't have many surface bubbles whereas the original resin did. I think the main problem is my original mold which is why I have bought a different silicone and better measuring and mixing aperatus in the hope of better results. That's the hope at least.

So without further ado here is the latest 5pikemen with some command members.

First post of the new year! So happy new year everyone.

I didn't manage to get alot of painting done over the festive period. Though this weekend I did manage to get a few Pikemen done. It's a fairly labor intensive process casting and painting every model. Especially as I haven't got a pressure pot so there's bubbles galore.

Still hoping for this to be a fairly sizeable army. I think the darker earth really sets off the yellow.

Thanks for looking!

Happy New Year howie. Those pikemen are looking great! You're absolutely right, the dark earth does complement the yellow quite well. Are all of the minis in your last photo casts?

Thanks very much for the kind words! I'm glad I made the right choice, the lighter brown didn't throw up enough contrast for my liking.

They're all casts. There's two different models, made up of the legs, torso and arms. Then I put on different heads. At the moment I'm using a mix of different companies including GW and Maxmini, there's a third but I can't remember off the top of my head at the moment.

I'll be creating a new mold soon to get some great hammers and and replacement arms. Hopefully it'll come out better my last mold, I'll be using a different rubber mold as my original stuff was kept outside the house and I believe it's caused some problems while it's cured.

Thanks for looking and the kinds words again. =D

Wow, it's really hard to believe those are casts, they look great to me. I agree with your choice and what zahnib said the yellow on your pikemen is really popping, the dark earth color was a good choice.

Post by: howie

@Syro cheers. The casts are good from afar, but far from good. There was a lot of clean up work to be done after casting which I hope to minimise with my new mould.

@Zahnib, thank you much appreciated. They'll get better given time I hope.

As always my scattergun approach to this blog continues. I've recently been to a Warhammer tournament where you got points for having a fully painted army including bases and movement trays so that prompted me to finish my undead project or at least get a little closer to the finish line. With that in mind I did a bit of free hand on a banner as well as tidy up the army.

Then when I got back from the tournament receiving an absolute kicking I thought it's time to revisit my ogres. For this I wanted to try and make them look like mercenaries for my empire army. I had a pin badge from years ago which I made a press mould from to make some Karl Franz inspired shields from. I think the result was good.

Any thoughts?

Good evening all,

No update on painting. But I have spent the last two evenings putting together some new models. 25 of the MOM peasant spearmen and a unit of 3fimir and a noble. This leaves me with another 75 spearmen to put together and 6fimir. Having fun putting them together so will trudge along with that.

I really wish MOM made a matching unit of bowmen in the spearmen style. Oh well till then I'll just persevere with all the other companies out there.

Post by: howie

Cheers Syro, in total I I have 170 of those MOM models. 50 painted, 120 bought in the black Friday sale when they made there already cheap miniatures cheaper.

I've never seen anyone use fimir in 8th edition Warhammer, so I've decided to blow a hole in that and get a unit of 10. I'll be painting them really dark and suitably gritty. I'll be going for either a dark blue/ turquoise for the skin or a dirty green.

Thanks ChaoticMind,

I've hit a stumbling block with the fimir currently. I'm not massively happy the skin colour I've got with and how it's coming out. I don't know yet, think I'll finish Basing the first one before inplow ahead with any others.

On the other hand I have been getting to grips with my next "Tournament" Army. I usually take some random army that the meta or other players think I'm mad for using. But this time I agree that I'm mad for the army and unit choice.

It is obviously the peasants. Going to be using them as Halberdiers. Currently just got the base coat on them and hoping to do skins, straps and washes tonight, probably get them based as well.

Good evening folks.

I've been getting on with the first 20 of the halberdiers. They've been washed with inks and some brown contrasts. I still need to go over and pick out the satchels and straps, the buckles and most importantly the skin as I nearly forgot about that.

I like to get ahead of myself as always and I've started the shields, they'll be similar in style to my spearmen. I promise they'll look good at the end, well to my usual style.

Cheers guys,

@zahnib, yeah I had good fun trying to use my airbrush again. I don't think I've used it in a fair old while. These where just easy designs I could think of. I've got another 80 shields to do, so I'd there are any other designs which would suit I'm all ears.

@Kid_kyoto, They're from MOM miniatures. Really affordable miniatures. I got 120 of them with bases for under £100 with postage in a black Friday sale. The quality isn't the greatest, a fair few mould slippages, but I'm very content with them.

A minor update. After work I managed to paint the rim of the shields. Nothing to spectacular I know but I think it shows they're better already.

Sorry for the slow reply.

Real life getting in the way of toy soldiers.

@Zahnib, Thanks i was fairly happy with the shields. I think they came out to a decent standard. I think the spearmen shields are better, but I'll just have to get a bit more confidence and patience when using the airbrush again.

@Syro, Simple answer too big. However, the armies are going to be broken down in to their various factions.

The Estalians, just because of how slow they are to make and paint are currently on hiatus.

The Peasant Army from Stirland however is growing monumentally. There's 70 infantry painted so far, started on another 25 this weekend so they have been basecoated and washed.

This will be an army I'm taking to a local friendly tournament, where i plan to pull out all the stops and make it look awesome. To that end, I've spoken to the tournament organiser about Demigryphs as they just don't fit in with my peasant horde. So I'm going to proxy and convert appropriately a unit of 6 Albion giants to use as them. Hold fast for them.

Thanks for looking in!

The tournament isn't till April and I've had a change of heart with my army. For although I'm loving the look of it. I can't stay within the comp limit I've set myself and have a decent army.

So on that note.

The ogres are back in town and they've brought there heavy hitters. Rhinox and plenty of them. The forges of Howie have been busy. I'll be using them as mournfang till I go to a tournament which allows the use of Grimhorn Rhinox riders.

I've started painting three while I await eBay supplies and restock.

I'll have a painting update tomorrow. Thanks for looking!

In front you might be able to see the shields I'm using for the ogres.

I really dig the new ogre hero model, I think he's meant to be a tyrant or a bruiser. But he looks very Hunterish to me. Using a chaos warhound as sabretusk, as eBay hasn't been fruitful for finding a single cheap tusk.

Hope you're enjoying the ogre addition to my forces.

Thanks Zahnib,

I enjoyed the shields, I'll be making a handful more. Just resin. made the push mould out of blue stuff from coolminiornot. I'm not usually a fan of it but it turned out pretty well this time i think.

The skellies are 6th edition Gamesworkshop I think? They're certainly GW. They used to come 3 to a pack.

So I should state that I am by no means good at casting. I have a very haphazard it'll all work out in the end kind of mantra when it comes to hobbying. So to that end here's my step by step:

Step 1,
Make your push mould out of blue stuff.

Step 2,
Gather your 2part resin and mixing pot and tool.

Step 3,
Mix equal parts of your resin 1 to 1 ratio.

Step 4,
pour resin into mould and wait till cured. The resin I use typically takes an hour.

Step 5,
Demould and clean up your new resin shields.

I Know this is only basic but I'm pretty basic like I say.

Clearly I'm also going to post some of the picks of what else I've also been up to!

I've been pretty busy painting and modelling.

I've done lots of finishing up, trying to finish projects that I've lost steam on.

First up 30 skeleton archers with 2 catapults for good measure.

Secondly there was the fire wizard which came in one of the army boxes. Thoroughly enjoyed repainting this guy after initially not knowing what I really wanted from him.

Thirdly a pair of galloper guns for my empire/ DOW army

Fourth on the list was a beasts wizard which came from the fireforge Kickstarter. Which reminds me I've got an entire army in boxes

So what's next I hear you cry? More yellow puffy armed pikemen of course and a duellist to accompany them.

I hope you like the update! Any C&C would be welcomed.

Wow much appreciated guys, perked me right up to come back on and see so many comments!

Kid_Kyoto wrote:Looking really good, I always loved the Empire.

Everyone loves the empire, those puffy sleeves. I'm hoping out for the new Old World boxset, someone rumoured/wishlisted it would be like the Heresy boxsets where it's near enough two of the same armies fighting. Think I'd buy a ton of those boxes and go through that rabbit hole

zahnib wrote:Thank you for the step-by-step howie That looks like a simple enough process with good results!
Your Empire minis are looking great. Was that Fire Wizard a limited edition piece, you could only get it with the army set or something? Also, is that a FW Empire standard-bearer aI see in the background?

Thanks, it is very simple which is why i keep on doing it instead of paying silly money for expensive shields on eBay. Yeah it was a limited edition wizard from the army boxset, nice model to play around with. The BSB will be getting some paint more than likely next month as i really should be cracking on withe me peasants.

Vermis wrote: Those aren't as exciting to me as Marco Colombo commanding one of the cannon.

Yeah I thought he looked like the engineering type, so while he's not exploring the new world, he can launch cannon balls at it.

zahnib wrote: True! That Lustria campagin was great

I've got the soft back with all the rules, once quarantine is over think me and my mates will be playing lustria or albion.

Kid_Kyoto wrote: LOL didn't notice him, I was too distracted by the Mordheim scribe

I've had the scribe for a good few months now and I didn't know where to put him. I think he fit's in pretty well as Marcos sidekick, writing all his deeds of greatness.

I should have some updates this evening work willing!

Not much of an update I'm afraid. I've just been washing some new troops for the front line. Getting that yellow contrast on.

Thanks Captain Brown & Flapjack!

While I like old models, I'm certainly not against getting new AOS models as long as there's a place for them in my army.

Speaking of which. The Barrow Kings Legion is nearly completed. This an army picture is needed.

Nice army shots howie! Yeah, it can get a bit crazy price-wise trying to pick up old pieces! For something simple like those shields, your casting method seems perfect. I look forward to seeing that banner bearer painted up!

Wow! That’s a serious number of Skeletons. The undead chaos dwarves are my favourite though. What’s your skeleton recipe? Their rib cages seem too neat to have been dry brushed, or maybe I’m rubbish at drybrushing!

Thanks guys much appreciated!

@Zahnib, there may be more of those shields getting made. Debating whether to make some skeleton Halberdiers for the army. More rule of cool than anything. We shall see. Haha

@gobert, I'm not going to try and wow you with how the skeletons where painted. Because they're the easiest thing I paint. White undercoat, Vallejo brown wash. Sit back and appreciate the awesome skellies I have produced. No drybrush, no touch ups. I need to get some more of that wash infact as I've used it for so long. Comes in a big bottle as well. Could not recommend it enough.

Hope you're all well, peace out.

I love it! I’ll have to give that a try. Is the Vallejo wash similar to any of the new/old GW washes, or should I add it to the to buy list?

I think it's similar to a few of them like Seraphim Sepia or Gyrphonne sepia. But it's also different in it's own way, it's biggest draw for me was that it got into recesses better than the GW ones and I liked the colour also I used those colours on a lot of my minis and this was bigger and cheaper.

In other news my beasts wizard has come to fruition. I'm really pleased with how he's turned out.

Afternoon all,

Been back at work this week so just been painting in my evenings. The spare time the wife gives me. Thought I'd listen to The Old World Lives podcast and paint some more of my state troopers. Coming along nicely I think. Once these guys are complete, I'll get a complete unit shot of the pikemen in all its yellow glory.

Looking good howie. That yellow is really vibrant. Are those pikeman casts?

Post by: howie

Thanks Zahnib!

Yeah they're cast. The fingers didn't come out well at all. I think I'll probably do another mold to be honest. If I'm going to carry on and make this a large army it'll need sorting.

As well as working on the pikemen I've also tried to get my unit of Fimir ready for the tabletop. Had these for a while and while I really want to give them a dark and gritty paint job at the moment I'm unsure how I'm going to achieve this.

No great update.

I've been plodding along with the Fimir. I've had these models for a while, when I put them together I was pretty excited to paint them. After I base coated them I got even more excited. However painting them, I don't know, I really can't seem to my mojo. Not feeling them at all.

Anyway Here's the first four nearly done. I've got to do there eyes, teeth and claws.

C&C?

I think the Fimir are looking great! I really like the combination of the turquoise skin colour with the darker, muddy bases. Somedays I think you just get into a painting funk and everything looks terrible but then a few days later you'll look back and have no idea what you were so worried about.

Thanks for the kind words guys! To get away from my painters block I put the Fimir on the shelf and I decided to go back to the Estalians. Some sort of Merchant Prince character. Changed his original sword as the original wasn't a good casting.

Thank you very much! I'm literally trying to clear models I've had in draws or boxes for a while.

Yeah the skull is part of some sort of headdress. Least that's how I think it's meant to be. Death mask or something of that Ilk.

This evening I've been painting my BSB as part of the old world lives mid month pledge. The base isn't done. But tte rest of him is pretty much sorted.

I thought I'd also show off the pikemen banner. Hope you like them both

I enjoyed the banners. Used a bit of tape on the unit banner to mask off areas. I probably should fill some of the space with of other bits. But not today!

Illumini wrote:Lots of great stuff in this blog. Yellow is a fantastic color for empire minis.

I agree yellow if fantastic for the big ruffs and puffy sleeves. I'd done an empire army in early 2010 and ran out of steam because the yellow was labour intensive. But with the GW contrast paints I've really been enjoying it, instead of doing multiple layers trying to get a decent coverage.

Today's little update is an empire general. Not complete yet, but good enough for a photo I thought. I'll be using him as either generic empire general 101 or as a stand in for Karl Franz on foot.

Hope you like! Have a good all

The original bit of the hammer was from the 5/6th edition empire unit crossbowmen unit champion I think. For this I made a little two part mould out of silicone.

Nearly finished painting the first ten greathammers. However as always I got sidetracked by another unit

This will be my stand in for a corpse cart. It's currently in it's PIP stage but I thought it was good enough to put up and get some snaps.

Howdy all!

zahnib wrote:Woah what is that thing?! Cool looking model, I especially like the necromancer (?) included on the base

It's a FW Rhinox that I hacked into with a jewelry saw. I then converted it with parts taken from the zombie dragon kit and some greenstuff. The necromancer was taken from the recent fireforge Kickstarter. I didn't have any ideas elsewhere for him as my actual vampire army doesn't have many living figures in it.

Don Qui Hotep wrote:Agreed, it's gnarly. So did you carve off the side of the face? Is that a pewter or resin Rhinox? It's an ambitious conversion. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

It was a resin one. Yeah I cut half it's head and lower jaw off. Then hacked into it's flanks. Then gave it some mediocre grrenstuff fur to hide the gash marks form he saw.

gobert wrote:Woah, that thing is awesome! It’s really cool with the bits of flayed flesh hanging down, grim!

Thanks I think the painting really saved the internals. When I had just greenstuffed them they didn't look very good.

Haven't done any work on the corpse cart. Just been touching up the greathammers, which will get completed tomorrow hopefully.

On these guys the yellow is actually by far the easiest bit. It's GW contrast yellow with a bit of airbrush thinner. When I saw the contrast range. I knew it was time to do a yellow army, the Empire army with ruffs and puffs called out to me.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Depending on what game I use them in. They'll either be a dogs of ear in 6th edition or in 8th they'll just be for the ogre army. We will see when I have to make the next 15 and see how quickly they get done.

ChaoticMind wrote:You sir are a brave man, taking a saw to a FW model! I'd say your bravery paid off. That is one kick corpse "cart."

Na, no bravery here. I made a cast of the Rhinox Rider, so I could make conversions like the one above and maybe some.other crazier bigger conversions. Hold tight and you'll see.

Anywho, that's enough of the future. This is what I managed to get done today. Done a bit more work on the leadbelchers. Not 100% finished, but certainly done enough that I'll be happy slinging them on the table to game with.

Casting up new ogres for the horde. But then while I was doing that I was toying around with the idea of taking a bonegrinder giant to a tournament in August.

Why have confidence when you can impulse by it and then worry about painting it? Honestly though, I can only recommend the model. Came in 6 pieces! I'm sure when the GW new plastic models come out they'll take hours to put together.

The mini really does have so much character, super happy with it and glad I took the plunge.

He's absolutely massive, dwarfing the old Marauder giant for sure. Not familiar with the Giants causeway story, I'll have to look it up.

So I was hoping to have a better update tonight having blocked out all the black undercoat for everything else except skin. However with it all be awkward angles I didn't get much done at all. This was about two hours worth of painting. This giant is going to be a slow burn. I'm hoping to try some free hand out on him as well much later so we will see how he turns out

Going to hopefully have a go at the skin and doing the natural coloured furs and leathers tomorrow.

He's pretty much spot on for a tasty empire hero sized snack. Definitely bigger than 28mm historical model. Not as big current AOS humans.

Still can't get over how big this fellow is to paint. I'm not used to it so my usual painting skin techniques have to change. I'm not one for blending I usually go with contrast and such.

I think I've managed to get the skin looking good enough that I'm happy enough with it. I think in going to have a massive tattoo on his fat belly. Happy with were I'm heading with him though. Definitely in the riggt direction.

How's the balance with his base? It looks a bit small, but also the model appears to have a pretty well balanced center of gravity. Any trouble with him tipping over?

I honestly don't know what to say to that. I haven't started painting the toenails, that's just the result of the feet being dry brushed by flesh tones. I mean it seems people like it so maybe I will just leave it how it is. Haha.

I'm not quite sure how to move forward on the ginger. I've hit an impass, it's quite bright, I've tried to add a variation of tones on the back where it is a real mass of hair. Done a bit of highlighting as well. But can't get the desired results.

The base is small agreed. I'd rather it be on a 150*100mm base like the arachnorak spider. But in the game he does go on the chariot base. He has got a good centre of gravity and as of yet has not fallen over. Maybe he will when I have a game this week. That will be the ultimate test.

Thanks for the comments guys, keeps me trooping on with this ever growing project.

Nice work on the giant howie! The ginger hair is looking good, at least from the front and I'm liking the skin you've done. I'd question whether a tattoo is necessary, it might look a bit busy. But easier to judge in person, so you do you

Thanks Zahnib!

Thanks the skin was a buggery. I've never done such a large miniature before. I'm going to wait till after August to do the tattoo if I do decide to go that way.

In other news, the tribes real warlord has come fourth. Grack Giant-taimer, scourge of the Mourn Mountains.

It's the paymaster maneater. I'll show a ic below of the original model. I'm going to use that model for my unit of 6 maneaters with pistols.

Thanks, shame I can't say the same this week absolutely no progress. But I have managed to get hold of the FW beast incarnate miniature. For my new upcoming grimdark gritty army. Faction yet unchosen.

Well as previously stated I've hit painters/ hobbyist block.

Alas I have at least found a shield which I am very happy with. I believe it was a Lego viking shield. It's now used by all the ogre horde. I think its in keeping with the ogres.

I've also been painting the FW incarnate elemental of beasts. However I'm not particularly happy with where I am at with it. I think I'm going to go with a lighter green more of a putrid green. I've out this model up on a pedalstool so I don't know if I'm being overly critical. But it's on hold.

It is a pretty neat model! I think that's a decent green, but i'd be interested to see a lighter one too. My first thought was that a mossy or algae like green might be fitting.

I really like that green, actually. It looks slick and scaly and amphibious. It contrasts in a neat way with the talons and the fur on the back - he's a gestalt beasty, a beast of beasts. There are no wrong answers.

Nice find on the shields too! I wouldn't have guessed that they were Lego. Totally understand running into hobby block sometimes. I think we all have lots of half-fiinished projects!

I quite like the green, it looks like some damp moss/algae

It's been quite a while since I posted any movement on the Warhammer armies.

There has been a few minor progresses. But with no games to motivate me I've really got myself into a painting rut.

I've received a 3D printed giant from Etsy. It took a while to arrive, it was stated that it would take 5weeks but I hadn't paid any thought to it while ordering.

I'm very impressed with it to be honest. Wish I hadn't sold my 3D printer.

I love that print. (Duncan Shadow) makes some nice models. I printed him a while back. May have to print him and his brother at GW sizes for AOS. Great job on his eyes.

Thanks a lot mate. It's similar to my ogres. I was recently recommend to get a make up foundation brush as they're cheap and come into great use a dry brush.

youwashock wrote:Nailed that expression. Great model. Reminds me of Tor Johnson.
I googled who he was. You're not wrong the similarities are definitely there. It is a great model, more than likely I'm going to get the others in the series.

zahnib wrote:That's a good looking 3D print! That skin is looking great
thanks, I was pretty taken aback by how good the print was. There was one deep line which I definitely could/ should have sorted prior to painting. There were a few poc marks where the supports had been removed.

yeah I hope he does do a few more hill giants. Think there are 4 currently

Thanks for the kind words guys I'll hopefully get some more photos up soon.

After seeing the new undead minis coming in from oathmark I knew it was time to get some more skellie bobs on the go.

I wasn't overly fond of the mini I had been using for my wight king/ krell stand in. So I knew I wanted to convert a chaos model to be the king. I found this treasure in amoungst the metal out and I knew what had to be done. He's not finished by a long shot and I definitely have a lot of work to do on the elf.

Presenting my newest Lord of Undeath.

Not a massive update. But I have had this guy on my to do list for quite some time. So I was very happy to have the motivation to get cracking on him it today.

A old zombie dragon, converted with the newer kits plastic wings.

I've also prepped some other models including the FW Incarnate element of fire.

Mid day update for once.

I've started making headway on the Fire element incarnate.

Not as nice a model as the beast incarnate. But pretty cool, unsure if the aesthetic fits in with any of current armies, but maybe a future warriors of chaos army could follow it around worshipping it as a fire God.

Yeah, been juggling a few projects to be honest. Hopefully some will get off the ground soon. I wanted to do this conversion last year when I took Heinrich Kemmler and Krell to a tournament, however I couldn't find the model.

It was a pretty hard find to be honest. I doubt I'm doing the model justice, but we'll see

You're working on a lot of coll and big models Howie That zombie dragon, is that from Warhammer Fantasy aroudn 4th/5th edition? That'd be quite old.

Evening Syro, I seem to remember the dragon being released in 6th edition that's certainly where I first laid eyes on it in a white dwarf. Originally Zacharias the ever living I believe. Lovely model if it won't see the table often.

Been doing a fee bits of terrain at the moment. Received them from a recent MOM miniatures Kickstarter. Which I hope to show some of those models off shortly.
