So, to prevent the Imperial Knights news and rumours thread from going too far off-topic with the useful hobby banter, budding sacristans and nobles can post their questions, advice and models, both work in progress and finished here!
To kick things (hopefully) off, here's a WIP shot of my own Knight Valiant, the Freeblade VENGEANCE ETERNAL, which is scarily enough slowly reaching completion.
Spoiler:
Still need to do the left leg plate, the rear of the thing (reactors..), the right missile, both arms and add some more details to the base, but we're getting somewhere! After that, a pair of Helverins to accompany their Lady into battle.
Verviedi wrote: What color is that blue? Really nice looking.
Several thinned down coats of Celestra Grey, bit of a bother to get on evenly, but I'm quite smitten with the final result.

Nice!
One minor quibble, though this may be due to the lighting, but the base and overall colour of the Knight appear to be the same, making model and base blend together somewhat, was this intentional?
My knight household is mostly done, just needs heraldry (as of yet not designed) and basing.
Then I'll probably buy a Castellan.
Also got to try out my valiant in a 1750pt game vs my brother.
Spoiler:
They kinda just waltzed up the board deleting units.
I got to try the sniper missile on my exalted champion he borrowed.
And the Handshake of DOOM
Ended up a tie in spite of me killing all of his army but for two 10 man cultist squads. We had three objectives as our only victory conditions, one was unclaimed on the void shield generator (played as a ruin) one was controlled by 10 cultists (out of LOS, also in a ruin), and the one objective on the ground thoroughly controlled by three knights.
Bi'ios wrote:It’s the (poor) lighting. I plan on building a light box. The base, while gray, isn’t the same. It’s much lighter colored than the Knight itself.
Then I've said nothing. Top work on the decals as well by the way, I hope those diagonal lines haven't given you too many grey hairs!

Isn't Death Grip on a small model a bit overkill?
Thanks for sharing, love the more muted colour scheme you've used.

That ghostly grey contrasts nicely with the red base, it also makes the lenses and Volkite coil pop nicely.
I just bought the new Renegade boxset, still have the Acastus knight porphyrion, knight Magaera, 2x mini knights from forgebane in box for IK. Then there is the chaos knight and taunar in box still too.
EDIT: I plan to buy the knight valiant in the near future too.
The only Knight I have is a Renegade Knight that I used with the FW Chaos Knight rules in 7th edition, and it's not completely finished:
It's been sitting like this for about a year and a half now, and since Renegade Knights are kinda trash I have no real incentive to finish it. Other projects are taking priority right now.
Not sure if it belongs here so much, but I do have a machine designed by its creators to kill Imperial Knights (spoilered since it's not actually a Knight):
Finally got my Crusader into a position ready for priming! Now just gotta finish building my Valiant and then a Gallant from the 2nd half of the Renegade box!
Looking forward to finally getting some paint on them!
I folded and bought the Renegade box, decided to finish my DG for the moment and then when we go on holiday in the caravan, take it with me, and build it in the evenings.
Now I just need to watch the myriad of tutorials on magnetisation. No way in hades am I gluing a £120 box set together without swappable options!
Yes. JUST A FEW KNIGHTS, this is a normal amount of Knights to have.
An excellent assortment though! My only quibble is that personally I feel that the green decals on your Gallant and Warden stand out a bit much with the rest of the used colours, but that's just me.
Are these all of the same house, or a band of Freeblades?

They are a mix of Ad Mech and Imperial, so more like a group that found a common cause in a Imperial crusade. This way I could... have some freeblades too. If I needed more Knights.
The green decals was me beeing a little bit ...underequipped with decals of more than 4 colors.. so green seemed like an option.
The knight and warglaives of a more renegade house. Not one fallen to Chaos, but just not one who works for the Imperium. Pictures are a little outdated, I've finished up the knight and the warglaives a lot more since this, but it's the best lighting photos I have.
some pictures of the renegade knight I built and painted for my brother back when we split the original renegade box.

Nice job on those, the chain-pole-arm/chain-halberds are a nice idea.
Also, what is that grass mat they are standing on and where can I get one?
BrookM wrote: Isn't Death Grip on a small model a bit overkill?
BrookM wrote: I am liking your take on the chain cleavers there, I may need to do something like that as well for one of the extra Warglaives coming in Wednesday.
My thoughts were..."How does this thing hit a smaller target at all?" So I just drilled holes into the parts after carefully severing the blades. Put a 1/8 pipe through it and sealed the new gaps with greenstuff. I made all four with different adjustments to show the apparatus was adjustable for them.
As for the grass mat, I have no idea. My local gamestore just has it. It's the softest fluffiest mat ever but DO NOT ROLL DICE ON IT. If you've never seen somebody roll 50d6 and every result is a cocked die..you will on that thing.
A couple lower quality update pictures since I posted much older ones before. Same knight, but with a few upgrades this time around. The little warglaives there too. With my Sisters of Battle for scale.
Is that Scorpion a decal or some very patient freehand?
On my own end, after a two day break I've decided to power through the Valiant. Still not done, but slowly getting there, please ignore the arm weapons, they're still far from done!
In the background of the model is a little "reward" for all the painting I've done over the week.
The plan is to buy a pair of Forge World Zone Mortalis tiles, the flat Theta ones, and use those as a floor and wall section to represent a mech bay DROP KEEP interior.
I quite like that the Valiant and Castellan neatly fit just over the gantry way, sliding nicely into position there. The rest of the gantry will be host to various members of the entourage belonging to the Freeblade, an excellent excuse to finally get around to painting some minis like an Astropath, scribe and whatnot.
BrookM wrote: Is that Scorpion a decal or some very patient freehand?
Decal, I have invested in bottles of micro sol and micro set, and it makes all the difference in the world as to how decals behave...
And since I have set my heart on House Malinax I'm sure that that decal sheet will see use again for future war engines... I'm looking forward to the preceptor kit...
My only issue with the Dominus Class knights is I'm not sure how I would entirely convert them. Obviously can't leave them stock, but I don't think the dunecrawler leg piece would be big enough to give them digitigrade legs too. My other three Questoris have them so it would be appropriate to match.
Maybe something like the Stormsurge with the big giant harpoon gun made bigger and slung over top the shoulder.
Fictional wrote: I think you are right, the Dominus torso is too big for the dunecrawler legs.
If I remember, I will post a photo of them together later, as I happen to have both partially assembled.
Some sort of heavily trimmed defiler legs are probably a better bet.
Not the full legs. If you can see on the big knight I posted, there's a middle bit between what is normally a normal person-like leg. That single middle piece that makes the digitigrade leg is just a piece from dunecrawler legs.

Ah , I see what you mean now, youre using the "groin" fixing.

Should work, the Dominus has more guns but it isn't meaningfully bigger then the Questoris.
Also got to try out my valiant in a 1750pt game vs my brother.
Spoiler:
They kinda just waltzed up the board deleting units.
can't figure out how that movement worked out. Middle knight has piece of terrain ahead it. Yet next picture it's actually AHEAD others? Okay maybe the others moved like 4" but still that terrain piece doesn't look that short that going up and down(6" movement if it's 3" tall) seems feasible nor going around unless that moved distance is much smaller than it seems.

Looks to me like the bottom one moved to the middle and the middle one moved to the bottom. Confusing, but you can see the same gun from the middle one now on the bottom in the last picture.
mmzero252 wrote: @Fictional - Still nope. Literally a piece of the legs in the middle of the legs.
Ok, I do see now, I totally misunderstood.
Given the bulkier look of the Dominus, they might be a bit small as is, but if split and made to look thicker it wouldnt be so bad.
It's actually pretty easy to miss I guess. I've had people pick up the model and inspect it and not notice the legs were different. People that have built knights themselves.
The Dominus is still a bit of a ways off for me, but I have some ideas at least. My habit of never leaving a model stock continues!

Gallant (bottom knight first picture) charged the cultists (unpictured) then moved forward next turn (pictured),The warden (middle knight first picture) sidestepped the building and ended up where the Gallant started.
Finished up my Wolfigers yesterday... heads, shoulders and the frost cannon are from Gadgets Plus on shapeways.
Future knights will be 'stock Terryn' so I don't get the stink eye at GW events which are far more likely to occur nearby with the Warhammer Citadel opening.
Tagged the images to not completely blow up mobile.
Spoiler:
And their big buddy, who's now officially a Preceptor...
Has anyone with multiple knights done them in all different schemes like old medieval knight heraldry. Think like Bretonnians or something. I was thinking of doing that, I imagine it would be more work but I think it could come out very nice.
Multiple Knights with their own heraldry/markings you say? Yes, I've done that.. started with an idea of having the colours of the five Chromatic Dragons as an idea.. and it's kinda wandered from there. The rings on the green knight are a framework for some sculpting I have yet to get around to, where I create some pools of vile chemicals and pestilent filth.
mmzero252 wrote: It's actually pretty easy to miss I guess. I've had people pick up the model and inspect it and not notice the legs were different. People that have built knights themselves.
I've not built anything but the Castellan, so those legs might have been normal.
So far got this far with this. Rest of armour plates also painted to same state as are 4 helverin and 2 armigers. Airbrush done except for exhaust pipes that gets bit more later. Next brush parts
Since it's relevant to knights, if people didn't see...they FAQ'd a Knight Lance to give 3 command points with 1 titanic imperial knight and 6 command points if you have 3 titanic imperial knights.
Wasn't aiming to hijack it at all. Just something easy to miss. Didn't see any other posts on it, but this is a knight thread that's pretty active. Just thought I would point it out.
I'm wondering why its cheaper than the individual prices, £380 instead of £435, I can only assume its because it comes in 1 box, rather than 3, but boxes arent £55.

I assume the idea is that you get a discount for buying in bulk.
If you buy a Magaera and Styrix bundle you also save some money, but only £30.
Please do tell for those who missed the entire show. I only caught the first twelve or so minutes before my internet service provider cut us off until.. just now. First Twitch thing I want to see in ages and I'm denied.
But at least I finally got my Valiant done, so there's that.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Taken with the very sophisticated iPotato technology.
Imperial Freeblade Vengeance Eternal, ready to exact retribution upon the filthy green tides that brought her house low while she was on pilgrimage.
Next up.. a pair of Helverins and a Warglaive to accompany this beast into battle.
All decals are from GW. The roses and scripture are from the sisters of battle decal sheet, skull with crossed swords is from the Baneblade kit, the white shield with blood drop is from Dark Imperium and everything else is from the Armiger and Dominus sheets.
Has anybody got a link to the recent "normal" Knight Name Generator they did? Cannot find it anywhere.
Ugh...they couldn't even spell "Emperor" correctly in their own table.
Tangentially knight-related, I've been working on a "terrain" piece in CAD in between assembling new Knight models. It's a "small" drop keep for 3 Knights.
A little while back I finished work on the first of my own custom Knightly House, House Heraan. Here he is:
The model is fully magnetized to use any combination of weapons. I plan to do at least two more Questoris-class with similar paint scheme, and probably one of each type of Dominus-class eventually, plus at least a couple of each type of Armiger. I might eventually look into the Forge World Knights, but I have no immediate plans to do so.
Joachim, you inspired me to do similar with my Dominus, the knee and hip extensions. Got a Castellan earlier this week, and then ordered the bits for upgrades.
And then, by inspiration and experimentation - anybody who knows me knows I have a thing for muzzle brakes and guns with "character" to them - I decided to mess around with the shoulder turrets. I didn't like the originals, and went through my B&S bits for ideas. I thought of the Light Gatlings, but I only have two and it didn't look quite right.. and then I found a pair of the Twin Light Machine Cannons.. and fiddled with them. A little trimming, a little filing, some fitting, and then some putty, and here we are.
YES, I know the guns are sideways, they'll be turned in due time so they align properly.

I decided to go back and upgrade the blue on my Knight household's core armor markings.. the original was just Prussian Blue with a heavy hit of Drakenhof.. but now that I have more nice blues, I went back and decided to use Scale75 Tesla Blue for the new main colour, with Cantabric shadows and Mediterranean highlights. I originally tried doing Tesla over the old blue, but it really does not like going over dark colours.. did a new basecoat, and then applied more Tesla, and it looks much better. The paint's a bit stubborn about coverage, but it comes out nice and rich with a few coats.
A while ago I bought an Atrapos on impulse and later added a Warden and Forgebane Armigers. I painted those candy red.
So this is the "Before" picture:
Recently, I failed a self-control check and picked up a Valiant, Armiger Helverins and a Renegade box.
Clearly, I needed a new, more distinctive paint job if I have enough models for a knight army.
This is the current WIP status. I'll do more detailing, adding oil washes and some weathering as well as trying my hand at fancy weapon bluing.
SCM, that Renegade is just gorgeous work. That's just impressive, so much work.
Stephanius - yeah, that self control check is a hard one for many of us.. we're often at least at -10 when shiny things appear.
Here's a WIP of my Castellan.. got the knee extenders finally, so here's a shot after I put the foot down. The other one's waiting for another piece, I'm making a big rock-like piece to sit under the foot. The two acrylic rods are alignment pins and socket into the torso so it's not only stable, but it doesn't turn at random.
Interesting thing I found, Cataphractii powerfists (at least I think it was cataphractii) are perfect to use as mini-thunderstrike gauntlets for titanicus knights.
Also this is what I have been up to recently:
Made a gargant from plastic cups and random bitz, the little guys are all 3D printered.
My college has a few 3D printers and encouraged us to use them.
Spoiler:
I plan on playing a truly epic apocalypse battle with my brother, using normal 40k rules except cm instead of inches.
Edit since this is an off topic tangent:
tneva82 wrote: Nice gargant. What are you planning to use for rules? And why 40k rather than rules that are more unsuitable for rules. 40k rules break up with titans big time...
Normal 40k rules mostly because of familiarity really. If I can find the rules for epic I might try that as well.
I’m going to mathhammer out stats that make the gargant and warlord spend most of the game shooting each other, probably a ton of wounds (with two volcano cannons, a warlord expects to do either 3 or 4 wounds (72 or 96 damage) if the target’s less than T16 and doesn’t have any invulnerable save, so probably at least 250 wounds with a 5+++ (less swingy)) and fnp, but markedly weaker guns with more shots (orkz) but far less damage. (warlord’s guns are ridiculous, but it can’t take what it dishes out)
Spit-balling:

Waddling scrap pile : 5+++ fnp Mega talky box: if a warboss is embarked, the gargant gains the Waaagh! rule with a range of 36” instead of 6”
Giant stompy feet of Gork: melee / S user / AP -5 /make 4 hit rolls per attack

I've started putting together a knight and I have a few questions.
1- Is there an easy way to magnetise the weapons?
2- How much work will it take to cut up and repose a leg to make it look like it's got it's foot resting on something? (Like what other people have done in this thread)
I realize I haven't posted on Dakka Dakka for quite some time, but I figured this thread would be a great time to jump back in. I recently (around the time the new Renegade box was released) started a Chaos Knight army as a companion to my Death Guard and Nurgle Daemon armies. I settled on House Makabius due to their association with the XIVth Legion. What started as a small side project has turned into something big and has since branched into Dark Mechanicum models for Kill Team and INQ28 / for the hell of it. Here's my current Knights, both finished and still WIP (I apologize for the tidal wave of images about to hit you):
Allegiance: House Makabius, HelForge Volgan (formerly Forge World M'Pandex)
Designation: Canticum Carnifici (Executioner's Song)
Pilot: Aeshma Makabius (deceased)
Attendant Daemon: Leechmaw Rusthide
True Name: Kwrhrhaethsszhhlhlon'nthl
Origin: Forge World Mezoa (Pre-Heresy)
Alliegance: House Makabius / HelForge Volgan (formerly Forge World M'Pandex)
Designation: Lignum Truci (Gallows Grim)
Pilot: Berith Makabius
Origin: Forge World M'Pandex (Zaphadak Pattern)
Alliegance: House Makabius / HelForge Volgan (formerly Forge World M'Pandex)

As of yet unnamed Dual-Avenger Gatling Cannon Knight, so far nicknamed 'Gnarlmaw Knight' for obvious reasons... it's finished but I haven't taken final photos yet:
Finally, my fourth Questor Knight. Another Gallant-type, very heavy Dark Mechanicum influence and less outright Nurgle corruption. Probably my favorite thus far.
Oh! Before I forget, I have two more Armiger Warglaives in the process of assembly. And since the title of this thread is 'Sacristans Unite', here's my House Makabius Sacristan:
