So after having been involved in a few threads here people talk about motivation to get hobby stuff done I figured this was something that we could tackle in a different way as a community, not just as individuals battling alone against the mountain of plastic, resin metal and more.
So here is what I propose:
1) Each person who joins in states what their current focus/objective/intentions are. This might be anything from finishing one model to a whole army with no specific time scale
2) Each week everyone gets a ping to come post about their progress; posting up details (and ideally a photo, no matter how bad)showing what they have achieved that week. It might be just cleaning the mould lines off parts or painting up a whole squad or whatever.
3) Through the week updates can be posted; detail given and encouragement/swapping of ideas etc.... And because its a group rather than individual thread it should see more activity.
The idea is to encourage rather than enforce a work-rate. Even if a person only does minimal amounts of progress each week; any progress is progress. The idea in this being to apply a degree of pressure to help reinforce getting on with things whilst also acting as a source of ideas, methods and inspiration.
So having posted this on a weekend (and thus near guaranteeing it to be overlooked) here's one bump and also putting my own name on it with my own weeks objective for the next 7 days or so.
This sounds like fun! Plus a good way to get feedback from others. My current backlog of goals...
Build enough desert rock terrain for a full map
1 Primaris Librarian
1 chaplain (I think? A model for a friend)
1 Wizard(D&D model for coworker's son's birthday)
1 Lone Wolf
Magnetize 40+ weapons for...
1 Cadre Fireblade
2 Coldstars
1 Iridium Xv8
1 regular Xv8
25 Fire WarriorS
5 Breachers
5 Pathfinders
1 Knight Gallant
1 Knight Warden
That's all I can remember for now. I'm sure there's more
Finish painting Nighthaunts
20 chainghast
10 reapers
all the heroes from soul wars
chainghast
4 banshees
paint at least 2 endless spells
... and thats with me focusing narrowly on what I need to finish .... I have a lot of built models waiting for paint.
This week so far ive base coated the armigers and gotten the first ghostly layer on the chainghast done. With the ms out tonight hoefully I will be able to finish the metal of hte armigers and get more done for the ghasts.
Box of five Wraithguard.
8x Swooping Hawks
1x Baharroth
1x (just paint) Rhino Russ chassis.
1x Sorcerer (or Lord) on a Bike
3x Rapiers w/ crewmen.
1x Land Raider kit to turn into a Typhon.
Model count: 26
Not a tremendous lot, but it's all I've got to do, excluding a few metal Terminators I may or may not end up doing. They're not a goal at the moment.
I like the idea of getting sent abuse as a motivation to get my stuff done (please). I have a year long project goal that I posted up in the DCM forum which was to get to four fully useable and painted fleets for B5 ACTA. This is going to have to change however as I sold one of them to my brother, so now I am going to get three bigger fleets done.
That's my to do list and I am pretty much a third of the way through, currently in progress is my Warlock proxy, 4x starfury, 1x Orcale and 2x Hermes. They are all base coated.
I managed to make a flying start to the year but ran out of steam the month before last and have since done very, very little.
I agreed with a mate that we will both paint one decent sized unit every 2 weeks or have to paint a basic troop for the other as a penalty (or we keep a point score which gets used for rerolls)
I know that jerk is going to give me harles, so I am NOT going to lose that one
Oh yeah, I definetely need pressure when it comes to our hobby.
My current project: AoS Nurgle
Have a game Friday night, and lacking a few point for a 2000pts game, my objectives this week:
- assemble as many Endless Spells as I can before Friday
- clear mould lines from the 6 Nurgling Bases I just blu-tacked together for the game
Not gonna post my backlog, because that's clearly crazy.
Finish a Death Company marine (Jump pack left to finish & attach to complete the model)
Finish a Death Company Dreadnought (Legs and base are finished and assembled, currently working on the torso now, then arms to complete the mini).
Start my Sanguinary Guard Ancient (bare plastic, un-assembled)
Two more jump pack death company marines (to bring the squad to 10 models strong).
Five tactical marines (to bring the current 5 man squad up to 10 models strong).
A Storm Raven (which was a gift from a friend)
Two Razorbacks
A Predator tank (Another gift)
And lastly, a Knight. Past that, I've got a smattering of other projects I could fit in, such as a power armored jump pack equipped Lieutenant kitbash I'm planning but haven't actually started yet.
Current goal as of 18th July:
1. Paint 10 grots for my Bad Moonz
2. Paint my weird boy for my Bad Moonz
3. Clean and assemble the shadespire starter warbands
Update! I was only able to prime them the other day. I didn't get any paint on them until 7pm tonight but they are now to a point they can go to war tomorrow. Fully painted force for the game.
I'll join, although with a baby due any minute (quite literally) I'm not sure how often I'll be making progress.
I'm currently working on a 1k Scion army for 8th ed, 35 bodies and three taurox. All built and primed, all bodies have had their armour panels painted, and I've started on their fatigues.
Looking forward to seeing how everyone's project progresses.

Me to! 5 weeks to go
2/10 Grots done. I LOVE the models.
Plus a shot of my Orks so far. I am away for a week so there will not be a great deal done until next weekend
I've had a bunch of guard tanks sitting about for too long. I've got 3 weeks with the family away so my aim is to get my armoured fist table ready by the time they cone back. Also Necromunda terrain to get the basic scheme to be on.
I brush painted 3 of them ages ago. 1 russ, 1 chimera and one hydra. I now have an airbrush so plan to use the same scheme as before but with slightly less well defined camo pattern lines
Original scheme
New variant
And group shot.
So stuff list:
1 Russ with a choice of weapons
3 chimeras
1 hydra
1 converted Destroyer
And a bloody great Baneblade that I had forgotten all about!

I know how you feel. Mine was born this week. That’s why I didn’t post.
But in between helping the wife. I am finishing up 3 promethium pipe relays and two of the boxes of containers and the associated bits and bobs.
Ok this sounds interesting to me. I naturally have a bad lazy streak which is my own worse enemy when it comes to painting and modelling. Anything that can keep me motivated and focused for a while is a push in the right direction.
I am going to start easy on myself and hopefully you eyes when (if) it gets completed. Not done much for many a year so more then a bit rusty when it comes to holding a brush and using it as a deadly weapon.
Found a little model which is very amusing. I will go with the game Malifaux on this one. It's a young Lacroix from The Kin crew. He's a bit cheeky but the subject matter is a bit unusual and makes me laugh.
So I got a little bit of my list finished. I did a Primaris Librarian for my friend's army, 3 Primaris jumping frog troops of some sort(no clue what these guys are called heh) and I finished painting my terrain rocks.
That was my original plan, however having clipped bits out and started to see the Shrine go together I've decided to put it on hold till I can paint up parts of it before final assembly. The rear section with the rune in a stone hand and a fair few other areas are just going to be hard to do if its all stuck together.
Instead I started work on my Witch Aelves and got 12 finished and assembled (headless but head and hair assembled to make painting easier).
I've also clipped out and sorted out all the parts for the remaining 8 Witches and 10 Melusai. I would have done more but the last two days the heat has been nuts here and its just sapped all my energy/enthusiasm to clean off mould lines.
So lagging a bit but I hope to get the Melusai and witches done before the end of this week.
As promised, one completed Young Lacroix from the Malifaux Kin Crew. Hopefully the picture will upload.
Brother has started to show a little interest in the Age of Sigmar game. Somewhere I have all the miniatures from the Starter set. Only two have been finished the rest are still attached to the sprue. This is a too good an opportunity for me to miss. If I can get all the miniatures into a playable state (assembled to primed) we may be able to try a few games. So I suggest this time that I find and locate all the missing miniatures and assemble all the untouched ones and get them undercoated with spray primer.
Have a game Friday night, and lacking a few point for a 2000pts game, my objectives this week:
- assemble as many Endless Spells as I can before Friday
- clear mould lines from the 6 Nurgling Bases I just blu-tacked together for the game
Assembled a Daemon Prince and gave him 6 Drone wings so he could fly. This wasn't on my To-Do, but I didn't know when he would arrive as it was a Kickstarter.
I also got the Chronomantic Cogs assembled.
The game was 1500 vs 1200 pts (Firestorm campaign), so I wouldn't have needed to be stressed out about the missing points.
The Daemon Prince was ready regardless, but he sucked big time. I think all in all he killed 6 grots while being in combat for 5 turns!
3/4 hits from the sword, rolled 3 x 2s on wound roll. You get the idea.
My goals this week:
- assemble all Endless Spells from the metallic sprue (Cogs, swords and one portal done)
- assemble a unit of Plague Drones to go with the Daemon Prince
The Nurgling bases get pushed forther down the queue, as they are already playable.
Nice work, how many pieces does that model come in? Gave up on Malifaux after Yan-Lo.
Had a bit of a disaster with my stuff, everything I had base coated proved to be in the wrong colour (too dark) so ended up redoing all the baseing in a lighter grey and then got a little side tracked. Ended up finishing an EA Oracle scout cruiser and four Whitestar mk2s. So my weeks work in some really bad pics;
Will try for some better pics in daylight, so that one can actually see the pattern.
So my goal this week is to finish building a magnetized Knight Warden, paint a chaplain, and basecoat my first squad of Fire WarriorS with my tentative paint scheme. Trying to make a nice teal and the best I've pulled off is Sotek Green over a Macragge Blue base. Any suggestions from the thread?
Goal for the week is to get all primary weapons coated twice with incubi darkness. Secondary goal is to go over the darker colour fatigues (done in steel legion drab) with karak stone.
Recently got most of the base colours done on a Vanquisher.
Goal for the week (despite the kids being off school for the holidays now) is to at least get the rest of the muzzle painted and get the transfers added.
Got a new 3d printed part coming tomorrow for a new tank so maybe can get that at least built and undercoated by Sunday.
I have had a lot of sleepless nights lately. It's given me a chance to assemble and black prime all of the miniatures from the first Age Of Sigmar box. Have also located all the missing miniatures and some I started several years back. It's surprising where the odd miniature can turn up.
Now for the hard part. There are 20 Khorne Blood Reavers that need a bit of paint on them. So that will be my mission over the next few days to complete as many as possible.
One miniature had got broken in storage and I have been unable to repair it. Purchased a replacement fairly cheaply. Just waiting for it to arrive. Fingers crossed it will arrive in one piece. The broken miniature will end up as a conversion later on so nothing goes to waste.
I have posted so many pictures and i feel people might be confused so iv put all pictures in order from start to finish, 1st pic being start.
The order of the pictures is as follows, First pics is what the looked like when i first recieved them , next pics are me stripping them, then you see them all painted incorrectly with only base paints and no prime, so you then see me sanding down the "damage" effects on a couple of the rhinos and then stripping every thing including troops for a second time, then you see after i have finished sanding/stripping imperfections for the couple of tanks and then adding primer to them all, then you see them after i have added the gold paint. Then you see all the troops ( most were stripped twice also just like the rhinos ) after i have stripped the base paints off, and then you see them after i had finished priming, then its me finishing the gold edging, then next finishing the steel/silver edging, then the last pictures are what they currently look like/.
Ill have to do a second post to fit these pictures in. ( I cant find any pics of some other troops when i first got them, thats why you see at the start only a few and then alot more at the end, but most of them were preowned and were stripped by me twice ).
Please forgive me mods next time i do some thing like this ill be more organised, please forgive.
@battyrat - good work on the priming... even getting that done properly everything is an important.step
@stormatious - thanks. I looked through a book on tanks and chose a colour scheme I thought was easy to do. Having based on black means I don't need to muck about too much on base coating smoothly. Big spray and it's good to.go.
The disruptive pattern colours I chose to.match the infantry I'd done already, based broadly on British/NATO woodland camo from the 90s. On my original.tanks I just brush painted the patches on. This time around I've used an airbrush to lay out the pattern and then tidied up.with a brush.
Once I've got them done I might move on to a cohesive bit of.weathering, but my challenge just now.is to.get them.to tabletop.standard at least.
@Shrub- it's a Laser Destroyer. Forgeworld don't seem to door any more but it used to do.a Destroyer tank hunter with a big ass laser cannon. This is my.take on that inspired a little.bit by the good old Swedish S tank.
Looks like they still do the lower tech version with the laser cannon replaced by a demolisher
Just something I've been finding recently that helps with motivation and progress.
Cutting all the specific parts out for each model in a box and leaving them in a stack with the base (often stacked on the base upturned). I find that this means that I can take a full box of sprue; cut all the parts off and stack them up, put the spares in my bits box and then get rid of the sprue and box.
This leaves me a small series of piles of models ready to be built and which I can reach for and work on whenever the moment strikes. No pausing to find the box; find the parts in the building guide and clip them out. It's a really small saving in time in the "instant" but means that one can fill in a lot of process on mould line cleaning in little bursts. I find it also visually helps motivate me.
Note this idea assumes that you've space (not much honestly) which is safe to store parts on. So it wants to be very stable; firm and not anywhere that kids/pets/etc.. can fiddle/bump into or otherwise mess things up. Although if you've a selection of resealable plastic wallets or small boxes you can always store each models worth of parts within those to avoid parts getting lost/moved around/jumbled up.
Just finished throwing some paint on an adopted and very badly built Trojan that had to be ripped apart, I mean literally finished, the paint is still wet. Now a W.I.P scout tank with some paint initial primer on just to see how it's looking and also my hobby promise for the week, well half of my promise, I didn't manage to do anything on my Vanquisher yet but there's always tomorrow.
@Flinty. - Laser Destroyer, eh? Sounds... destructive... . The Hazard stripes are looking good. And as you say, perfect excuse for some battle damage.
@Turnip Jedi - I feel you on the procrastination. I looked at brush and just went "Yeah, nah. Can't be arsed." So no progress at all for me today. Maybe tomorrow.
@Overread - Thats sort of what I do. I cut all the bits out and lay them out how I want to build them. Helps me visualise what I want to do with them. I found that taking photos of the bits laid out too helps. That way if they get mixed up or I (inevitably) switch projects and put them aside I have some reference as to what I was doing with them.
@ShadowCaptainMathius - Nice terrain. I like industrial vehicles. What kit are they from? Are they GW?
@Nedsta. - What's the big metal dealie on the back?
@WaaaghRob - Cool grot. Nicely painted. How many more to go?
@Skylark - Good work on the the Space Wolf, mate.
No work from me today due to aforementioned procrastination. Tomorrow. Definitely tomorrow.
Nice to see peoples progress, some good looking stuff.
I have learnt a very important hobby lesson over the last couple of days, when painting large metal models do not drop them on to a concrete floor. Doing it once is bad, three times is just bloody stupid... So I will be coming up well short of my stated goal but I should have my Warlock proxy finished by tonight (unless I drop it again).
@Snrub, come on mate step away from the dakka and pick up a brush, just ten minutes wont hurt
I could really use some extra motivation to push through to the finish line in some things I’ve been planning.
My goals for this week would be to finish building and magnetising the knights renegade box I have. Finish up my leviathan dreadnaught that I have been procrastinating with and get the base greens down on a box of vanguard veterans.
@ingtaer - Yeah yeah alright. I guess that is why i'm here. Tomorrow. 1 Assault marine at the very least.
@Nedsta - Wait, so if i've searched the right definition of ECM you are making a remote control tank? Because that's awesome.
@Obispal - Do the basecoats first, mate. Slap em on quick then use the momentum to knock off the Leviathan dread. I'm with you on the Knight Renegade though. That was my first purchase after I got back in to the hobby a month or so ago. It keeps staring me in the face and I've yet to work up the gumption to tackle it. So do me a favour and do it first!
Okay I finally got my Warlock proxy finished, though it seems to have some new stealth technology that makes it resistant to photography. But here she is;
This week I have a load of new models coming, so my goal is to get them cleaned, assembled and primed. If that doesnt take too long then also going to try and get some more EA ships painted.
Any way iv basicly finished all the tanks, iv washed the metalic parts on them and done the red parts, and also the tracks etc, i had two strip two tanks that you can see in the other pictures, they still all need a base coat of addon black, and a few little touch ups here any there.
NOTE: NO BLACK BASE HAS BEEN ADDED YET, MOST LIKELY WILL PAINT OVER THE STEEL MARKS AROUND THE EXAUST CHIMNEYS. Also it may look like iv done nothing more from the other posts, but i assure you i have done 2 whole tanks and stripped them and little gold/steel parts here and there on the others, plus i washed them all.
Iv also finished almost all the troops, just need to do one more check over with the steel parts and then paint the red eyes. I have been basicly doing all at the same time, first the gold on them all, then silver on all etc etc etc.
- assemble all Endless Spells from the metallic sprue (Cogs, swords and one portal done)
- assemble a unit of Plague Drones to go with the Daemon Prince
Have done the Endless Spells and one realmgate. Not a good week. It's too hot in the attic to get much done.
Nurglings and Plague Drones pushed down the queue.
Update from me, 10 fatigues left to go over, and I've painted the ground mats on the backpacks deathworld green. Won't be updating next week though, as my son was born yesterday, so he's going to have every second I have
@Stormatious - No drybrushing. All edge highlights. Some of these are bit thick and/or messy as I didn't use my magnifier for some reason when doing them.
Congrats JamesY!
Nice to see some progress Snrub have you slain your procrastination?
First supply drop came through today;
From left to right; Ipsha Battleglobe, Brakiri Halik, Narn G'Vrahn, Whitestar Gunships.
2nd row; Minbari Nial fighters, FA scale Minbari cruisers, whitestar fighters, just the flash that fell off in the bags...
This is going to take a while.
This is one small Whitestar (the base is 1")
No unfortunately, I haven't. Much like the greater daemons of the warp, it can only be banished for a time, and never truly killed. It always rears it's head again before too long and strikes my brush hand with it's apathetic venom!
This is my daily existence.
Those ships though Ingtaer! They're fething tiny! Game are they for?
Babylon 5 ACTA for most, the littlest ones are for Fleet Action (though being used in ACTA as various things).
I fully get the procrastination thing, this year I have painted up 40?ish models to a reasonable standard, more than I have done in the previous 28 years of gaming combined... I really hate painting but with the campaign log I am posting here it is really needed. So every evening after dinner I force myself to sit in my freezing cold garage, laptop screening something I have seen loads of times before (so it isn't much of a distraction) and get to it. Though often I spend more time on here or chatting than I do actually painting... But like now I am just waiting for some paint to dry before I can varnish a couple of patrol boats I have just finished. Will post them up later before I crack into cleaning up my new toys...

Why do you sit in the cold garage? does this help your paint in some way? ( perhaps drying out )?
No it helps with my motivation, if I am warm and cosy then the chances are I will be spending my time doing something else, if I am freezing my knackers off it motivates me to actually paint (else why the hell else would I be sat in the middle of winter in an unheated room?). It sounds weird I am sure but it seems to work for me!
It also means no one else will be wanting to sit near me and pester me and I can also lock my cat out as he is always wanting to get involved and either sit on my lap/shoulders or constantly headbutting me.
I use a wet pallet so never have an issue with paint drying out.
Hahahaha that's funny but fair enough man. Now, i have like 7 rhinos to base paint black and like 25 troops... iv done all the details but yeah no base yet..
Had a good day off and got some work done, greens are on ready for some clean up and a final glaze before I move on to oils and weathering. The black parts need a lot of work still as I'm trying out a new method for black that I read a tutorial about.
My motivation has gone missing, has anyone seen it?
Got all of my order cleaned, assembled and filled but was too late to get it primed. Have a mountain of Earth Alliance ships to do but just cannot be bothered. So much to do, so little time, such a huge quantity of cannot be fethed.
Yeah, I ran out of steam this week too. I've got a long weekend though with not.too much else to do so looking forward to.nuking the camo on a few more tanks!
I was out of town so I didn't get much done this week. But I finished magnetizing a Knight Warden. Have to do the rest of the weapons eventually but I need more magnets.
Thanks for all the congratulations, much appreciated him and mum are both doing really well
I'm not painting my scions whilst getting so little sleep, so I've started building the primaris marines from dark imperium. I had an easy build set and a couple of single sprues, so converted an additional helblaster squad, with heavy bolters in lieu of plasma guns. I'll add a picture of them later. Will be doing them as Howling Griffons.
finished washing every thing, only bone and some more red needs to be used...
NOTE: 5 Troops were not painted by me ( the ones with bone colour painted and a couple of others ).
Automatically Appended Next Post: And i have to fix some of the eyes... was really tricky, the eyes were literally the hardest thing to paint.
Automatically Appended Next Post: and i have highlighted every tank.
Automatically Appended Next Post: One tank i have to reduce the amount of "wear", i kinda went a bit overboard lol
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and yes i have finished basing all the tanks with addon black, i think some areas are missed but i can get them later.
Automatically Appended Next Post: lol and another thing, i have not based the troops.. im kinda thinking of just leaving how they are.

@Storm. Good work mate. You've burned your way through those rhino nice and quick.
@James. More howling griffons are never a bad thing!
@Skaylark. Good knight. I'm still kicking ideas around in my head with what I want to do with mine.
No progress from me last few days. Works been slamming my arse. Also may not have helped my cause none, because I broke down and bought BoP and Ravenwing command squad. Hmmmmmmm.....
So I finished the lone wolf/wolf guard I had started and the Njal cause that model just looks so nice. I really need a better camera for taking pictures. My phone kicks up the contrast like you would not believe.
Through some unexpected family.time I've not had as muchlainting time.as I thought this weekend. Added to that is the diy I needed to.do.wrecking my.arm.muscles so detail paintng is.out at the moment.
However, no need for a steady hand when Necromunda scenery needs dirtied up!
So I'm calling this one done now. Suitably grubby and licheny as well as dusty and manky
Had almost a week and a half of constant rain...so I've broken one of my own rules and assembled more than one unit. Normally I open a box, assemble and paint the unit before moving on. I've been impatient with the rain (and I should have some new base colour cans showing up soon).
I have thus constructed.
1x Rhino-Russ chassis
3x Rapier platforms
6x Rapier gunners
1x Sorcerer on a bike
1x Typhon Heavy Siege tank kitbash.
All being from the same army I'm hoping when my spray shows up and I get a good day i'll be able to make a ton of headway at once, and crush them in a week or less of painting.

For me most of last week was work with overtime, no play. People around me can get so demanding even at home so very little progress was made apart from a few base colours. So one must hang head in shame.

Once I get another batch of magnets in I need to get started on my own Knight as well(my buddy and I split a renegades box). I am planning on buying a second renegades box and a couple Helverin boxes and having an IK army.
I'm starting fluffy so my current plan is to replace the small shield next to the head with a Venerable Dreadnaught Storm Shield, order Comradequiche's iron wolf head and feet from shapeways, and attach the claw tips from the Vendread claws to the thunderstrike gauntlet. I'm going Gallant because it seems to fit an ally of my space puppies.
What is better then hitting an enemy with a chainsword? Hitting them with a 20 foot long chainsword!
So I got more terrain done. Painted and sealed. I won’t bore with pictures as half of it I have already posted. Next on my list is 2 basilisks 2 wyverns and 1 leman Russ/tank commander. Along with building the terrain for kill team.
Wow JamesY that looks spiffy, totally not what I was expecting when you said Howling Griffons really like the more muted palate you have used, one small niggle though is you need to purge that mould line on his fingers, purge it in fire...
@Snrub; My motivation got me as far as the pub where I was fully motivated to test the awe inspiring array of malted beverages produced by the local brewery. Have managed to get a few hours work done but the current ships are so very tiny that its taking me longer than the massive ones do! Second part of my supply drop should happen today or tomorrow and its pretty hefty.
So goal of the week is finish 6x Bluestar proxies and 4x Whitestar fighters and then clean, assemble and fill the next load of models. Will update with picks.
Edit; Supply drop has occured.
From left to right; Narn Bin'Tak dreadnought, Narn G'Quan Heavy cruiser, 2x Drazi Warbird cruisers.
2nd Line Narn Ka'Toc destroyer, 2x Drazi Sunhawk battlecruisers.
3rd line EA Omega destroyer, 6x Starfury, 4x Thunderbolt, 4x Narn Frazi, 4x Narn Gorith fighters.
Its going to be a long week! and Is till have a battle report to write up...

Awsome mate, good luck thats alot of painting to do. Are those metal models?

@Snrub completely agree, here is the test model;
Still needs decals, but you get the idea.
Progress update, all primaris built, including easy to build dreadnought.
SkylarkR6 wrote:What is better then hitting an enemy with a chainsword? Hitting them with a 20 foot long chainsword!
A sentiment I can fully get behind.
I'm thinking thermal cannon and chainsword off one of mine and probably battle cannon and gatling cannon on the other. I don't know whether either are good loadouts for a game, but they're cool looking, and that's what counts.
Also been on the lookout for a forgebane as I wouldn't mind adding some armigers. They're just so cute.
ShadowCaptainMathius wrote:Next on my list is 2 basilisks 2 wyverns and 1 leman Russ/tank commander. Along with building the terrain for kill team.
I read this entirely wrong and for a few seconds thought that you could run multiple tanks in a kill team. Oooh boy.
JamesY wrote:@Snrub completely agree, here is the test model
I was expecting it to be brighter like you see with most HG armies. The more muted palette (yellow especially) is an interesting take on the scheme. It will be interesting to see if it pays off for a full army!

Big supply drop. Hopefully it wont be overwhelming.
No painting done on my part, but I did tape up my tanks for spraying. Although the weather still isn't playing ball so haven't been able to get out and spray them. Been damp as gak all week and then it fething rained today.
Was also hoping to get my command squad and BoP today, but no joy.
The drawback to working on an Imperial Knight is that I cannot feasibly bring it to work to paint on lunch. Rather then go without, I decided to start a mini side project. My friend gave me a Geigor that I'm doing my amateurish best to turn into a Lukas. I do not have many bits to work with since I just started in April but I carved out his knife hand, swapped some shoulder pads, and used a piece of wolf pelt to cover where the sheath went. Wish I had a Dreadnaught wolf pelt to drape on a backpack though
Finally managed to get my little ships finished it proved amazing hard to get photos of the Whitestar fighters, tried every setting on my camera and it just refused to focus on them. Here are the best I got;
Bluestar proxies (actually FA scale Minbari cruisers).
Whitestar fighters;
Single Whitestar fighter;
Now got to get a battle report done and back to hacking pewter apart to excavate a model.

So I'm falling behind the tanks, but I've at least made some progress on my Necromunda terrain
And even a new little bit of tankage made from the super cheap toy cars I got recently.
That looks very cool, can i ask you did you build this from scratch or is this terrian you bought from some where?, if you build your self what materials do you use? thanks mate.

Not a tremendous lot, but it's all I've got to do, excluding a few metal Terminators I may or may not end up doing. They're not a goal at the moment.

Fellas this stuff is great.
@bows. The launchers are awesome. Are they 40k. Can’t find rules. Fill me in bro.
Here’s a look at a table that I am readying for the start of a narrative campaign for my buddy. It includes some of the terrain that I made. MOTIVATION!!
The tracked vehicles are Hellforged Rapier Batteries, but from an alternate 3rd party resin manufacturer (Kromlech). They're from the Forgeworld Imperial Armour Index for Chaos. There are loyalist ones as well - though with fewer weapon options.
The proper Forgeworld version looks like this:
And it's eye-wateringly expensive (and mine weren't cheap either!). Great multi-use turrets, with some cool weapon options.
Busy weekend didn't leave much time for painting sadly but I finished my basic bash of Geigor into kinda-Lukas. And for no real reason made some quick space wolves objective markers.
Alright, so this week I want to FINALLY get the rest of the scenery done for Kill Team, and then assemble the Harlequin troupe box I had laying around into a killteam.
Nice progress people, seems like the time for making terrain? Might have to join in the fun after I get my current pile of ships assembled.
Speaking of, progress has slowed somewhat after my Dremel committed suicide when it encountered the excessive flash and miscasting on my Bin'Tak, so everything now is by hand. Think I might have to extend by another week.
@ Elbows; those Rapiers are really nice, good use of proxies and very nicely painted. Are those Skitarii heads on the crew?
@ Overread; Havent seen you post for a couple of weeks, hows things going?
I just have to say, you all are doing absolutely gorgeous paintjobs and I truly hope I can get some of my guys to come out as good as I get more experienced. Also I kinda wish any of you were in my section of the Frozen North cause it seems there's no one to talk painting with while I figure things out heh. Pictures only seem to go so far
It happened again. Started working on Astra Militarum again as planned.......then the bits I have been waiting for arrived and I’m back in conversion mode. Standby for a death guard aligned renegade knight.
A few more details done, a second coat on (most of) the gold, and it is starting to come together. The avenger Cannon and the Icarus are done in a different scheme because only one of each came I. The box and we plan on sharing
That Knight is looking great skylark, really like the faceplate.
I've been pretty slack this week, finished assembling the body on one Knight and got my veterans ready for oils, I've also done a little yellow practice on some rhino sides to try and I think I have a good idea of how to get the colour I want, just need to push the shadows more.
Elbows, some great and very unique death guard additons.
SCM that compound looks awesome
Tkrettler91 superb koptas, really good job
Digital nice knight
Skylark nice objective markers, the numbering looks really good.
I've just been trying to get a first unit of intercessors done, grabbing an hour here and there between family visits and trips to see the midwife. Still a way to go, but so far;
Hopefully they'll be done by the weekend and i can move on to the heavy bolter boys
Yeah same, I wonder how many Howling Griffons armies exist, purely because of that amazing army by Fred Reed back in the day. Every one since then I'd wager.
SkylarkR6 wrote: That is a really awesome looking squad. I have not seen any armies painted as like, but I have not played much so I suppose that is to be expected.
@tkrettler91 so your deffkoptas(sp) are making me drool. I would love to see what you do with one of those new buggies they posted about today
Wow, thanks! Yeah I want that set soooooooo bad now. I can't wait for the new ork codex. I hope they listened to how overpriced bikes are. I'd really like to utilize them in my army so I can feel good about painting them. Now I need to start working on more boyz. There's too many boyz to paint - it's overwhelming lol. I got like 70 more to do so I can field 3 squads of 30.
My current objectives:
1. Finish HGUC Nu Gundam (Almost complete!)
2. Finish my last 6 Chaos Warriors (First six shown)
3. Finish HGUC Zeta Plus C1 (90% done)
4. Paint Vandus Hammerhand (Assembled in two sub assemblies and undercoated in black)
5. Paint rim of Bastiladon base (otherwise complete)
Yeah, a big part of how I stay motivated is that I alternate between Gundam and Warhammer.
I had some spare sponsons from a B&S kit, so I built them into magnetized alternate turrets for the Rapiers (ignore the weapons, they're merely for show). Will save me a few bucks in the future when I want to build some plasma/laser destroyer variants.
The fourth (and likely final) Rhino-Russ chass is complete.

Wow.. those look like WALL-E's angry cousins, MURDR-E and SHOOT-E. Killer weathering too btw
I have yet to use them in a game of course...but it's really hard to argue with Hellforged Rapiers on paper. They look like a genuinely fun addition to the army. They're going to be supported by a Typhon Siege Tank soon as well...
PS: When their crew die they go crazy and charge enemies, shooting and eating them....I will be shouting "JOHNNY 5 IS ALIVE!" every time this occurs.
@Elbows Will you be chanting "Los Locos kick your butt!" When they wound models as well?
@Shadowsanddust I am quite interested in seeing your Gundam pics too if you care to post them. Not really sure what the Ankylosaurus rider is, but from the square base I'm guessing Sigmar? Looks cool though and your chaos warriors are pretty sweet

The Ankylosaurus rider is the Lizardmen/Seraphon Bastiladon from Warhammer Fantasty/AoS.
Here are some Gundam pics:
HGUC Nu Gundam WIP
HGUC Blue Destiny Unit 1 EXAM
HG Origin Zaku I with HG Origin Zaku Half-Cannon
HG Origin Zaku Half-Cannon Desert Diorama
I thought I'd also mention that the ruins in the diorama are the AoS Azyrite Ruins. Being ancient ruins, I find that they actually scale pretty well with 1/144 scale Gundam kits.
SCM that belfry carapace and the base look ace, I take it they are for the same model?
JamesY, really dig your Griffons. Are you going to be doing some vehicles as well?
My progress has once again slowed to a crawl (to the pub), got the majority of my stuff done and undercoated but the Earth Alliance fighters are a pain in the ass and having done three (this time, done another 15 earlier in the year) they are sapping my will to live. Fiddly little buggers and badly cast.
Current goal as of 18th July:
1. Paint 10 grots for my Bad Moonz
2. Paint my weird boy for my Bad Moonz
3. Clean and assemble the shadespire starter warbands
Elbows wrote: Digging the blue knight, but he really does look off when you add the black/red cannons/bits. Time to find some spares!
So my friend and I agreed on red black and grey for the avenger Cannon so we could share it and the carapace weapons since only one batch of each in the renegades box. But after finishing... I'm ready to strip and repaint. I need to figure out the multiple guns for that arm anyway.
Currently trying to rebuild, fix, clean of mould lines and paint all of these. Still need to buy sand for basing. Thinking paving sand and balast should work, and I get a 20% discount on huge bags
All, I need recommendations, I need to raise the area just in front of the Dreadnought as the angle for the legs is way to big to fit. Anything would help. I mean in front of this dreadnought. Sorry I should have said that.
SCM - I prefer the exposed piping to the deck plating.
Primaris Dude- Looks good, what chapter are you going for? I agree that the double suppressor looks a little off.
Lazzurus - Nice.
I have abandoned all attempts to get my fighters put together and have moved back onto painting. Most of the way through my Whitestar gunships and have started on some Hyach stuff, these I am trying out a new inking technique. Will upload some photos when ready.
So had a break from assembly to get my Hyach painted. The idea was to try and get a really aged bronze by inking over metal. The pic makes it look a little warmer than in person;
Think I am going to paint the spinal lasers (the ridges down the centre line of the bigger ships) in a pure silver to contrast. Thoughts?
Overread wrote: So after having been involved in a few threads here people talk about motivation to get hobby stuff done I figured this was something that we could tackle in a different way as a community, not just as individuals battling alone against the mountain of plastic, resin metal and more.
So anyone interested in joining in?
I would like to join this, what do I do to get myself added?
Yep now you've just got to post updates!
I was toying with the idea of a pestery message very so often but most are going on strong on their own and cause its all a mish mash its kinda hard to work out who has and hasn't missed a week and all
I didn't join the The Hobby Motivation Club but I have been reading the posts here and I think it's a really great idea.
I started my P&M Blog 10 weeks ago when I decided that having come back to WH40K after 25 years I'd actually paint my miniatures this time. My backlog was all the First Strike miniatures and 500 points worth of SM...
Well today I finally caught up
I do now have a Whirlwind to paint too (bought as a reward this week), but it's a good feeling

Great! So I don't have photographs at the moment, but my main goal is to get my 5-Man DW kT unit painted! I'll post more soon.
So I used what someone told me in a thread I started the other day and tried making a crusher cap for my warboss, who's skin I might repaint as its a little rougher than the meks. VERY pleased with how it came out, just gotta hope it paints up ok!
And sorry if the photo is sideways, cant do anything about it on my phone, dakka just likes to change the rotation for some reason.

Was looking forward to abusive messages, sigh... Anyway how is your progress mate? Haven't noticed a post from you for a couple of weeks
@SCM that base is looking fantastic, are you going to keep a clean paintjob, or heavy weathering?
It will be heavy weathering since it’s going to be a nurgle influenced renegade knight. I gotta say I applaud you for the quarter colors on your marines. It looks really great
Automatically Appended Next Post: Anyone have recommendations for what chapter the dreadnought should come from on the base?
@scm cheers bud, I'm pleased with how they are coming out.
Regarding the dreadnought, how about grey knights? A little payback for Mortarion, and the clean silver will contrast well with the grime of the base and corruption of the knight.
@ingtaer no sleep at all mate, just done a feed and waiting for him to go back to sleep so I can try. Ships look good, and the silver does add a bit of difference to break up the scheme. I like it. Heavy bolter idea was stolen from another poster, so can't take credit

I agree grey knights would look good however the primary base color was going to be lead belcher because it’s mostly metal. Maybe ultramarines?
I thing I have the majority of the carapace done. Missile system mounted now. Need some type of person to be “ringing”the bell and then add the nurglings on the back plank as well
Nice updates all. The HB hellblasters are inspired and really nicely done.
I am.currently hanging my head in shame on no updates for a week or so, but world.of.tanks has a grind op on that is sucking my time. However that will finish this weekend and I can get back to.other things.
Looking forward to picking the brushes up again to be honest. It's fun, but sometimes the grind ops.are a bit too much like a job to be totally fun...
I have plans though, oh yes, plans... and more hobby material incoming in the form of
1 a bunch of cheap.Antares stuff I picked up.in the Warlord clearance sale. Amazing value there, even if I'm not sure exactly what I'll use any of it for.
2 a bunch of Primaris stuff that I can add to my Terranwing force and use for.Kill Team (that i may never play)
3 a couple of toddler toys I just won on eBay as more scatter terrain.
Damnit... and the list is supposed to get shorter as time goes on...
ShadowCaptainMathius wrote: I thing I have the majority of the carapace done. Missile system mounted now. Need some type of person to be “ringing”the bell and then add the nurglings on the back plank as well
Are you going for scale for your Quasimodo or just looking for something cool to stand there and look nurgly?
My first thought was Typhus would look pretty awesome riding atop but he really is half the height of the knight himself so might look off. I am interested in seeing what you come up with.
I have been slacking a bit but hope to get back to things this week. I am waiting on magnets for my knights so they are on hold. My goals this week are to finish assembling and get colours on my AT warlord, finish up my vanguard veterans and assemble the e Jetbikes I got this week. I need to stop getting new models while I still have so much to work through
Obispal wrote: I need to stop getting new models while I still have so much to work through
The dream of nearly every hobbyist, I swear most of us could give magpies a serious competition. Oooh look, new shiny!
So got my Hyach based and done (in spoilers below as I dont think they really need to be posted for a thousandth time...)
Spoiler:
Next weeks goal is to get 2 Whitestar gunships painted and then either finish assembling my starfury swarm or get three Hyperion cruisers done. if time permits I will also try and get a Narn fast attack cruiser done. Just need to wok out which parts of it need to be painted in dazzle and which don't.
Edit; cause closing brackets and spelling are hard.
Here’s an update. Got the weapons in finally really just waiting on my plastic rod to redo pistons for the legs and banners. Also got the shoulders converted and nurgled up.
Ah-ha. I've now gots me a Hidden and I can get back to not playing WoT endlessly!
So here is the final draft of the plasma generator heating system element thingy. The coloured tube isn't glued in yet because I'll do that after painting the bits, hence it's a bit wonky.
And here it is with one that had rather too many friendly fire incidents
And then the busted one with some busted support pillars now that I've decided on the final details.
Pretty quick, colourful and finally a use for the awesomely (and awkwardly) shaped caps that come with the Matey bubble bath that my kids seem to drink given how fast we go through it.
Loving the work on that knight! Makes me wish I could use greenstuff with any kinda accuracy.
Couple of wip shots showing my shoddy desert camo on the battlewagon. Its fine, theyre orks, its supposed to be bad. Ive also decided to name my battlewagon the "sweat bokz". I just need to decide in a colour and where to write it.
The camo looks good to me. Hit it all.with a nice wash and it'll look spanky as all get out.
On the glowy thing front, something of a setback. Turns out that even plastic primer doesn't stick that well to the bottle material :(
I put a bit of.masking tape on there to do hazard stripes around.the base and it pretty much wrecked it. I've just used tape to pull all of the hazard striping away and re primed around the bottom.
For the undamaged one I've wrapped masking tape around the base first to give a better key for the paint. It'll make it.much more textured, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing here. I can easily paint up.the tape creases as damage or something growing on the surface of the concrete.
Ouch. May be an odd suggestion, but maybe rough the surface a little with an emory board or sandpaper, then prime? The paint should adhere better.
So far Ive got the kannon and gretching big shoota turrets painted. I really wish I didnt want to weather my battlewagon like this, but itll be worth it in the end!
Good idea. I'll try that next time. I'm not sure it would have helped that much as it's not a problem of the integrity of the primer, it's just that the bond between primer an the substrate is non existent in places.
For.me.ive managed to bring back my plasma core thingies back to where they were before the masking debacle, and finished off my mobile.lighting rig. A bit of hard edging, shading on the black and some muddy dusting up around the wheels.andnlower surfaces
Hmm... I'll.need better pictures than those though. Sorry For their general crapness, but hopefully they get the idea across...
Looking funky mate, got any pics of how your plasmas ended up?
Could do with some advice, been working on these little buggers for a while and every time I come back to them my opinion changes.
The lighting has made them a lot more yellow than they are (and thus making the yellow bits stand out more) but what do you think? More purple squiggling? Less? more shading? strip the little buggers and start again?
Someone shout at me. My longish hobby project Typhon is sitting on my desk, and I finally have 95% of the parts to assemble it and get to the painting stage, but I'm stalling because I hate resin and cutting/cleaning the tracks (after market) is putting me off.
I was so anxious to get this thing built and painted, but now the spectre of resin tracks is beating me into submission.
The sponsons I ordered are missing a few pieces they're supposed to come with - so they're en route now. They're a separate piece so nothing is stopping me from sitting down and grinding out a bunch of annoying track pieces...ugh.....(whines)
EDIT: This is a self-made conversion using a Land Raider donor body and a bunch of 3rd party bits. I couldn't even conceive of trying to work with resin on that scale (me hates it).
Elbows wrote: Someone shout at me. My longish hobby project Typhon is sitting on my desk, and I finally have 95% of the parts to assemble it and get to the painting stage, but I'm stalling because I hate resin and cutting/cleaning the tracks (after market) is putting me off.

Right then, Mr Elbows Sir. YOU WILL SIT DOWN AND CLEAN THE RESIN FOR YOUR NEW SHINY TANK. NOW. I DONT CARE IF ITS 0200, YOUR TANK MUST BE CLEANED.
Better?
Just take your time with it mate, do say 10 min or 2-3 inches at once, take a coffee break, go for a walk etc. Do a little more, slow and steady wins the race... Just think of how excellent it will look when its done.
Edit; got so carried away shouting at Elbows forgot the rest of the post;
@SCM That is looking more and more badass everytime you post, loving it.
@JAmesY, also very good stuff! Yeah I should have got some better pics, tried to;
So, I clipped/cleaned my Typhon tracks...might actually assemble some of it tonight. In the time they were soaking in soapy water I did assemble three sheets of the Killzone terrain box I got earlier today. Always need more barrels, boxes, and containers. A lot of good scatter terrain stuck in that little box.
@captain magpie - Those things make me want to cry manly tears... they are gorgeous down to the flame torch cut along the front of the like nose armour plate.
Tut tut! It's in the actual painting phase now, which means it won't be shown till completed...and since magnets are being mailed my way, it'll be a week at least....sadly!
EDIT: I actually snapped these pics to send to a buddy, which I forgot about...so this is the Typhon (missing the front plate)
Kit bashed from a plastic Land Raider, some 3D printed parts, and some resin extras.
I think it looks a right mess! But it cleaned up nice with the primer, and if painting goes well, I think I'll be happy with it. It'll be a long paint job...hell just the tracks scare me.
ShadowCaptainMathius that titan is utterly fantastic I love it! Loads of hours of work have gone into it and it is more than worth it!! Fantastic model and conversion
Elbows love it - and the bigger chassy of the landraider really suits that big forward cannon!
and there is lots of really great stuff in this thread that I've missed - lots of great models and work.
And now for my own sinful terribly slow progress
There stands my force at present - the headless Daughters of Khaine (featuring the undead legion of the bodiless warlocks). So my current plan is to keep focusing on building up a strong core. I've got 7 Warlocks awaiting assembly and 10 melusai to add as well. I figure if I can get the whole force to a point where a majority is build an ready to paint up (cleaned up, heads on cocktail sticks and all primed) then I'll be in a good position to hit the whole army with paint in on go (ok not really but at least once I get started I won't have to pause or stop painting for a while - if nothing else it might teach me how to paint a bit more than one splotch of primer)
All. I present to you the MORS BELL or the Death Bell. Renegade Knight of house Krast now known as a Rusthound. Officially declared lost during the Battle for Chambakh in M42. (Check the story). Now declared loyal to Mortarion.
For myself I have managed to escape the call of the tanks tonight and actually finished my plasma thingies off. The tape wrap around the plinth didn't quite work as well as i'd hoped, but I think it's good.enough to.stop.fiddling with. On the other hand, the glow effect that you get when looking down on it I find quite pleasing
Holy feth SCM that knight is cool as hell, awesome work!
Flinty, looks good mate, is the base paint all sticking together?
Overread, you are a brave man trying to bash through that together.
So my progress has diminished to nothing, got my two WS gunships varnished and dulled and have done nothing since (well actually been playing Heroquest and watching the walking dead). Have been going between a couple of different things to do next and like a horse between two mangers have died in the middle! Still haven't finished putting together my EA fighters from ages ago...
Just dip-brushed the Typhon...it's glued together, painted, all complete except the sponsons...which I've modified, prepped for primer...just waiting on magnets.
EDIT: Magnets arrived, installed, sponsons painted/dipped...just need to wait till this evening or tomorrow to matte-coat them and it'll be ready for showin' off! (a laughable 761 point monstrosity)
Thanks, it's very "close" to what I had envisioned. Really wish there was a reliable non-resin way to do the tracks all around, but meh. At the absurd 700+ points cost it's probably the most work I've ever done on something that'll rarely see a tabletop.
Do you have those bases weighted? They look...very fall-overy, lol.
Tonights quick jam session before we lose power (hopefully doesn't happen):
Two Kromlech turrets for my Scorpius tanks --- replacing the boxy launcher I have at the moment. I was a little upset with the casting quality of the barrel sections - a first for a Kromlech piece. Lots of scraping and smoothing and you can still see some ridges, but they're okay now that they've been painted and dipped.
Looking good Elbows, I have no idea what they are but big boom tanks are always a good thing! Hope the storm doesn't affect you too much.
JamesY those look really nice, are they the ones from the boxed game?
I totally lost patience with my EA fighters, yet again. I don't know why I am struggling so much with the little buggers. Instead I shifted over to some new and exciting stuff and got base coats done on three brigade frigates (using as EA Olympus corvettes), four Drazi ships (2 sunhawks and 2 warbirds) as well as an Ipsha warglobe. Got to delay with finishing them up though as X-Wing 2.0 is going to take up a lot of hobby time.
Yeah, I'm in the Carolinas - we're not going to get much, but this place loses power in a heavy thunderstorm...so anything more (general wind and rain is expected) and I assume we'll lose it a couple of times shortly.
ingtaer - they're my take on the Scorpius launcher tank from the Horus Heresy and the Imperial Armour Indices (including Chaos!).
@Elbows they will be, they fall over enough on the painting table, never mind the gaming one. Those Scorpius look great, and very menacing.
@ingtaer yes they are, the whole army is just the DI box, plus the heavy bolter squad (etb interssors and two monopose mixed around with those from DI) and the etb dreadnought. Nice cheap little project
They are supposed to be chunks of pillars that he is dragging around. The attempt was to give it an animal like quality in its pose. So the pillars would be as restraints almost
ingtaer wrote: Love the Weirdboy Rob, your ability at painting checks once more astounds. Really like your skin tones as well, mind sharing the recipe?
Thank you ingtaer! I was a bit so so about the conversion before painting but now he has a bit of free hand and glow on I am really taking to him!
Good brushes, slow breathing and many thin layers are definitely the key to checks. Brushes > everything tbh.
Skin is:
Deathworld forest base
Athonian camo wash
50/50 deathworld and Elysian green layer
Elysian green layer
50/50 Elysian green and ogryn camo highlight
Ogryn camo highlight
50/50 ogryn camo and yriel yellow extreme highlight
Athonian camo glaze to bring it all together
It's the GW orruk recipe with more smooth transitions.
Been busy with work and trying to find more of it, but I have done something at least. Played a game of 30k with a friend the other day, got trashed, but really got me wanting to get my death guard done. What do you all think? Took me ages to get the sponging right, my fingers were too big, so had to use a Bobby pin to hold it
Cheers guys. Needs a little touching up, and I need to redo the gold. Unfortunately the gold I use is ruined, so I'm gonna have to wait till after payday. Planning on rebasing my death guard to look more like istvaan, anyone got any ideas what that would look like?
Very nice Lazz, you thinking 3 or 5? Five was a barren volcanic world whilst three was either pretty Terran or a toxic sludge depending upon pre/post virus bombing.
Volcanic could really off set the DG scheme,
Edit for spolier cause massive images. Edit Edit cause spelling is really hard.
Spoiler:
Edit for the third; Actually managed to get some ships painted up, a trio of Olympus class corvettes (proxies) and an Ipsha Warglobe. True to form the photo is a pretty poor but will get some better ones in day light for my various plogs.
First thought that came into my head was Iron filings, then the rest of my brain caught up and considered how terrible that would be in a magnet heavy environment!
Some more WIP shots of my death guard. First three are after sponging, the second three are after going over it again with rakarth flesh to thin out the weathering and remove any big splotches of brown.
Nice lookin' termies. I'm putting off doing some detail work on some last minute terrain (scatter terrain) for a large game this weekend. I'm running out of time butttttt (screams) I DON'T WAANNA!
