Hello there, I am Paul. I have been into Wargaming (more specifically the Worlds of Games Workshop) for more than 25 years. I am more of a painter than a gamer, that said I am more of a tabletop level army painter than the works of art in the miniature world that we can see today.

With the recent release of the new 40k Conquest part works in the UK I am using it to create a brand new Marine army and to add to my current Death Guard army. I am currently subscribed and am eagerly awaiting my first delivery. Whether I last the entire 80 issue run of the magazine remains to be seen, but I intend to have fun finding out.

Anyway, here is issue 1, I managed to track down 5 copies from a mixture of Forbidden Planet and my local Asda. I just could not resist it at £1.99 for the three minis, three paints and substandard brush.

That nets me 15 Primaris Intercessors, more than probably needed as far as troops selection go. The main issue here is the monopose nature of them, the answer? A visit to the bits box for a bit of conversion. Luckily I already have some spare Primaris heads as my Deathwatch already led me to buy some multi part Hellblasters.

Here are my first six Intercessors with mainly a mix of head and hand swaps. The heads are from the Hellblaster kit, the open palm from the Devastator Sprue and the ammo clip hand is from the Deathwatch Veteran sprue:

The last guy is probably my favourite.

So what is next? Choosing which chapter to paint them as. I am leaning towards Minotaurs but also saw a cool golden scheme with blue shoulder pads. But I am damned if I can remember what chapter that is. Can anybody help?

Anyway, thanks for looking. I aim to get painting these forthwith.

I like where this is going. If they sold the conquest magazines here I would also do my best to get 4 or 5 of them.

I did a search to try to find gold with blue shoulder pads and I can't really find them. Old 90s version of the Raptors had blue torso but then yellow legs, hands and shoulders. But that's the closest I could find.

Though if you're looking for a painting guide for gold armour with blue shoulders, the warhammer TV videos on painting stormcast eternals would probably be pretty applicable.

Gold with blue shoulder pads sounds like the Celestial Lions, who are a really cool chapter who were almost annihiliated in the 3rd War for Armageddon, and are one of the ones now being built back up with primaris reinforcements, so it fits really well. That's what I'm doing with my Conquest stuff.

That's them, thank you so much Sir. Good to use up the Retributor armour and Macragge blue. And not an Ultramarine successor chapter either.

@Chamberlain: cheers for the heads up. Hopefully Conquest finds itself abroad for non UK based markets.

Ahh excellent - been hoping someone would do this blog on the Conquest mag

I have several copies of issue 1, but not subscribed as of yet as not sure I want the other army (although I guess I could sell / swap it at a later stage?

Looking forward to following this too. Conquest is why I'm on this forum (never painted more than about 1500pts of an army, so I need things to motivate me to get the whole thing painted), and it'll be good to see other peoples progress!

I like these - simple conversions so you don't end up with a squad of identical marines all peering at auspexes. Nice.

Thanks for the interest everyone, have constructed 10 of the Intercessors now, the odd little bit swap really helps relieve the monotony of the same three poses again and again.

As for my Celestial Lion's scheme I have got my first Intercessor done, nothing special but it is quite a quick scheme for the armour overall. Retributor Gold, Agrax wash, another layer of retributor to clean up the armour then a silver edge highlight.

I am really loving the background of this chapter, completely betrayed by member(s) of the Inquisition and left for dead on Armageddon, excellent stuff and well worth searching out. Anyway, enough waffle, here is my first Celestial Lion:

I aim to start the rest of the squad today, thanks for looking.

That's really nice, can't wait to see the rest of the squad.

What will you be doing for the heraldry on the shoulder pads?

Me too.

Great start, mate. And fantastic choice of chapter too. Fits in nicely with their background too.
The subtle conversions work great for differentiating the monopose models.

Lovely metallic work, though the backpack could use a touch more silver highlights. The blue really pops out!

Lovely stuff on the first Lion, they are an awesome Chapter and you've nailed the scheme. How did you do that gold? I've struggled to get good results using Retributor Armour.

Looking forward to more, Conquest paint-along is a great format to follow.

Cheers everyone, lovely to have some feedback.

@GMSchofield: Those transfers look good but I always hate the look of them on the curved shoulder pads. I may have to freehand a design for the chapter symbol, I never bother with tactical, fast attack etc marking. The Codex be damned!

@Snrub: By the fourth sprue the same figures were getting very dull to work with.

@John Prins: I think you are right, have revisited them accordingly.

@Paradigm: Hello Sir, how goes Uni? Retributor is a godsend to me, my go to gold. Recipe is simple, base layer(s) retributor, Aggrax wash, touch up retributor then a silver/ retributor mix to highlight (about 70/30). Done.

@Boss Salvage: Thank you, much appreciated. Do you want some more?

So I have completed my first squad of Intercessors, am happy with how they came along:

The sgt is my favourite, the helmet with crest fro the Mark IV Marine kit works great as a Primaris head:

I will be moving onto my second squad next:

Monday also saw my first subscription delivery with the three ETB PLague Marines:

However, I have painted this set before so plan to use some leftover Plague Marine sprue bits to convert these up. So my next post will probably be the progress on those. Here is my first lot from a few months ago:

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the gold method, I'll have to give that a go as it's yielding some great results for you. Definitely agree on the sarge, there's a lot of purpose and character in that model with the pose and unique helmet.

Great stuff on the Death Guard as well, I might well take some inspiration as I picked up a set myself and I'm not yet sure how I want to tackle them.

Uni goes well, finished my course with a First over the summer and am going back next week to begin my Masters.

Excellent news on the First, great to hear that you are going for a Masters as well. I dread to think of the fees though!

Had a bit of fun chopping and matching bits on the Plague Marines, the Blight Launcher marine was a bit of a pain to convert but I am happy with the results. The Champion became a Heavy Plague Spewer marine whilst the bolter dude just had to cope with a head swap as he was a little too complicated to mess around with .
Apologies for the poor lighting on the pictures, I took them early morning:

That's a really nice paint scheme, and great use of the colours that come with the first issue.

Nice conversions. I agree with you about the bolter dude being too complicated to be worth chopping up too much - with just a head swap you can sprinkle a few in as background extras in your squads and it looks fine. If you get any more, you can swap the backpacks over on the regular marines with just a slight bit of cutting (and I think more are coming with a future issue). I've now got four of him dotted around my squads. On the plus side, the Blight Launcher arm and Plasma Gun backback are very useful pieces to have for future conversions!

Really like the three "here's what I did earlier" plague marines. Are they part of a larger army, and if so do you have a picture?

Coming along very nicely, mate.

The head crest is a nice way of marking out your sergeants without putting too much effort into them. Second squad is shaping up nicely too.

The Plague marine conversions work really well, too! With a coat of paint on, I imagine it'll be hard to tell they were ever ETB in the first place.

Indeed I have, about 3500pts painted although Mortarion is about a seventh (how fitting) of that. I will get them together for my next update.

@Azazel: Glad to hear it, one bonus is given how few of them are about is that a rudimentary Google image search for them shows yours high in the mix.

@Brother Castor: Thank you Sir, I just hope the painting guide fuels the next wave of wargamers.

@Snrub: It is lucky how similar the Mark IV armour heads are to the Mark X, though maybe a bit too Ultramariney?

My Plague Marines are currently being painted up and I am considering adding this Captain to my Celestial Lions (with a head swap).

Do you think that would be against the spirit of the blog?

As long as you keep churning out really well painted minis I don't think anyone is going to complain what you buy! I think there is a captain being released with the Conquest magazines in an upcoming issue though if you felt like waiting for it

Really love the paint scheme for the marines, I would never have thought that much gold on a model would work but you have pulled it off brilliantly.

Keep up the good work!

Exactly - you're merely supplementing the Part Work stuff.

I consider that model as a fine Part Work Enhancer!

I'm thinking of doing something similar myself, minus the Part Work (can't get that here. ), and the Plague Marines (don't want) and the Celestial Lions (a cool choice, but not my chapter).

Basically, I'll be doing Primaris Marines Malevolent.

But I am loving your Celestial Lion stuff here, and I'm looking forward to more!

That would be a brilliant idea, can never have too many captains. As long as you paint each months models, the spirit of the blog is intact. That's my excuse for buying 2300pts of Plague Marines on top of the three that come with issue 2 and I'm sticking to it.

I honestly hadn't noticed you used a MkIV head. I thought you'd just bunged a crest on a primaris head.
The crest certainly is a bit more "roman" then what I think the CL's have been portrayed as. But that shouldn't stop you from using them. It looks fine though and doesn't make them seem overly Ultramarinish.

The captain you're considering wouldn't seem out of place. Fairly neutral space marine appearance.

If you are content to wait though, Conquest will eventually give you two captains. The DI captain in the bulky not-terminator armour (Can't remember the name) and then this guy. As well as 3 lieutenants. The two DI ones and the special one that comes out soon.

I think that Captain would make a great addition. Can he have a lightening claw? If so he might suit the Lion's Claw from the FW Huron mini.

Don't forget the two plastic Horus Heresy captain models, just in case you wanted a Captain who was a good foot shorter than the army he's leading!

To be fair, the Chapter Master is meant to be one of the few survivors from Armageddon - Ekene Dubaku, and he wears Heresy era armour given to him by High Marshal Helbrecht, so he should be a foot shorter than everyone else!

And for GMSchofield here is my Death Guard army thus far (bonus picture of the fireplace and Dansette (look it up kids) in the rear:

So that is Conquest issues 1 and 2 done, I aim to paint more Primaris Intercessors before my next delivery. Thanks for looking.

Top stuff, that's a decent force already and if you're keeping pace with the deliveries that's a massive plus. It does seem one of the better features of Conquest actually, you won't run short of things to paint but hopefully won't be swamped with minis like you would buying an army outright.

And congratulations for sitting at the top of the Most Exalted Threads for a couple of days, people are clearly enjoying this!

I've been really enjoying this thread, and it is really tempting me to sign up for the subscription of models although I don't play marines or death guard.

The conversions are very cool, it's a great way of keeping things fresh with the ETB models. Liking the full army of Nurgle too!

I used them to get some Marines Malevolent transfers.

Now, it has been a while - it there a good tutorial out there for how to best apply them?

Micro Sol and Micro Set?

Gloss varnish the area first?

Something like that?

Not having used Micro Sol and Micro Set myself, I'm not sure how important they are, but definitely gloss varnish the area first.

Very nice find there - thank you!

Are Primaris should pads the same size as regular marine shoulder pads?

EDIT:

Yes, yes they are!

Warhammer Community wrote:

Are the kits compatible with existing Space Marine kits?

Good Question. There are certainly elements of the existing Space Marines kits that will be cross-compatible, while the new armour mark means that some parts won’t mix as easily. Shoulder pads and helmets are the same scale, and will still work, whereas the legs, torso and arms are different, and not quite as interchangeable. In terms of the Primaris sets themselves, you’ll have loads of fun kit-bashing them.

One thing - all the primaris with the magazine are easy build ones with shoulder pads molded on the model itself rather than seperate.

I've been just cutting off the pads and attaching a new one, but it's a right pain.

Blimey, that is a lot more replies than I was expecting!

@Paradigm: I don't actually know what that means or how you find it out. But thanks for the info.

@Dark Apostle: Thank you, the Dark Imperium set is a cracking one and a basis for many an army. Best of luck in completing it, personally I have done the Death Guard side but not the Imperial side. The P and M blogs are great for motivation and inspiration.

@ Tyranid Horde: The subscription is an interesting prospect, just depends if it suits your needs and wallet as it is a long term investment. Let me know if you sign up.

@GMSchofield: Any fully painted army is impressive IMO, I am sure you will do the models justice.

@Ulfhednar_42: I still think I will go the freehand route, I only really like transfers for flat areas on vehicles.

@Mysterio: Micro sol and sel are both completely foreign to me, I have yet to see a simple explanation of what they actually do, and they seem to be a bit of an unusual thing in the UK.

@Ancestral Hamster: Thanks for the links. I like the concept of the shapeways stuff, but the insignia in particular look a bit too thick and chunky for my liking and the edges on the shoulder pads look too bulky for me.

@Azazelx: Thanks Sir, as you know I love your work so am appreciative of any compliments.

So progress wise one great thing about the subscription is that it has reignited my love for the Death Guard, to that end I looked at my "to paint list" and singled out The Tainted Cohort, three Blight Lord Terminators:

The issue is there are more coming with Conquest (who knows when?) so the choppers will be coming out again for conversions. But overall I am happy with these.

Here is also the very early, and messy, stages of more Celestial Lions. These have simply had a layer of Retributor Gold and an Aggrax wash.

As ever, thanks for looking.

And it meant your thread had got the most likes/upvotes ect over a given period, which in turn means a lot of people are enjoying following along with this project. And damn, you make gold look good! The CL's look good before you're even finished with them.

So more progress, got my second squad of Intercessors done. Feels good to already have two units of troops for the army:

And here they are with the other squad doing a bit of investigating:

So with issues 1 and 2 done (bar a few spare Intercessors, but I will keep them for future conversions) what is next? Well luckily the postman came knocking today:

So that gives me :

3 Reavers
6 Poxwalkers
3 Plague Marines and
1 Ultramarine Lieutenant to paint.

Thanks for looking.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got mine - two heads (can only have one at a time though), separate shoulder pads and some additional dangly bits to glue on. The pose works really well, even though it is subtle. I'm selling mine to a friend who collects Ultras - after seeing it in the plastic I was very tempted to buy another one for conversion into a Blood Angel, but I think the ultramarines icons on the sword would be pretty difficult to remove nicely. I'd definitely recommend picking one up if you do collect Ultra's though, and looking forward to seeing how OP turns it into a Celestial Lion.

@Tyranid Horde: do not expect too much of my freehand, I may yet move on to one of the other options.

@Paradigm: the UM Sgt is a great figure, I love him. He is joining my Deathwatch. I just swapped the left UM pad with a Deathwatch one and put the Ultramarine on his right pauldron.

@GMSchofield: Just the three Reivers for now, Conquest provides another three though.

Got my second delivery constructed and based:

No pictures of the Reivers and Poxwalkers as they are just the stock miniatures, here are some more pictures of the Ultramarine LT:

Also very happy with my alterations to the Plague Marines, the champion is the same loadout as the stock miniature but reversed and with a head from the Deathshroud kit:

Now to get painting, thanks for looking.

The plague marines look great, even just with a few head and arm swaps. I have to say, I don't play marines but I'd pick up the UM lieutenant just to have the model, it's way nicer than the others you'd get in Dark Imperium or the new Eldar box.

Found an article about Micro Sol and Micro Set: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/184452.aspx

It seems the first product is what is wanted for decals on a pauldron.

Now, it has been a while - it there a good tutorial out there for how to best apply them?

Micro Sol and Micro Set?

Gloss varnish the area first?

Something like that?

@Tyranid Horde, it is a pretty nice model, and a bit of a departure from most of the Primaris range. I may look into getting another to lionise.

@Snrub: The Celestial Lions are traditionally stated to be of African type heritage, whether that involves other skin colours I shall have to see.

@iGtR: Thank you.

@Ancestral Hamster: Cheers, that seems to make more sense that what I have previously seen. Now to try an experiment with the stuff.

So I have completed my Primaris Captain, Kamau Bakari I really love this miniature so I am wanted to do a good job. The pose is so reminiscent of 3rd edition captains of old. Anyway here he is:

Have gotten issue 3 and the Reivers done and dusted...I thought forward operatives...I thought special ops, the only sensible conclusion was a colour scheme of the traditional bright gold with royal blue accents for these dudes. Before painting these I was never that keen on the look of the Reivers but I am quite fond of them now, especially the helmets which I think would really look good on Night Lords. Here they are:

After digging into more of the lore of the Celestial Lions there are only a few named characters, principle of these is current chapter master Ekene Dubaku. He was granted the position by High Marshal Helbrecht after the betrayal on Armageddon, because of his valour and also being the only Celestial Lion officer left. Helbrecht also granted him an ancient suit of Imperial Fist armour. So how would I represent Dubaku on the tabletop? Easy, steal an idea I saw on Reddit. So here is:

Chapter Master Of The Celestial Lions Ekene Dubaku

Cheers gents,

@pgmason: The body, lion and all, is Trajann Valoris. The head, power sword, plasma pistol and purity seals are from other kits.

@Tyranid Horde: I am holding off painting him for a while, want to get issues 3-6 done first.

@youwasshock: Thank you, though my Reivers are not a patch on the one (assume it is yours?) in your avatar.

A touch of progress this weekend as I have gotten issues 4 and 5 done. First up are the poxwalkers. This is a really basic and quick scheme as I do not see any point in spending much time on a horde unit like this. I already had 38 of them painted up so these 6 take me to 44. They are rough and ready but fit in fine with the ones I already have so they do the job.

Now onto Lieutenant Calsius. I already have a sizeable Deathwatch army and their armour is painted in an unusual way, black with a fenrisian grey highlight. Not traditional but I like the way it works. Oddly whilst most Primaris units are available to the Deathwatch the Lieutenant is not, so if I am to fit him in it will have to be as an Intercessor squad sergeant so an instant demotion.

As it is he can be sequestered into my Celestial Lions to teach the recruits the ropes. Here he is:

Dubaku came out really well. Great use of the custodian as artificer armour. I haven't read the story he features in, but it's certainly a good look for a chapter master. He should look wicked when painted up.

The deathwatch ultramarine looks splendid with the edge highlights like that, almost like true Ultramarine colors shining through the armor paintjob .

The Celestial Lions are looking positively awesome. Some of the best chapters are ones with so little cannon written about them.

The poxwalkers scheme is simple and effective, I like 'em.

@Theophony: I am quite fond of the Lt as well, am really pleased with the miniature. Agreed on the lore of the Celestial Lions, I can make it up as I go along.

@Tyranid Horde: Yes, all of my DW have a blue wash on their silver arm and pad as I like the cold steel look.

@Commander Cain: Thank you Sir, not as good or interesting as your armies but I try.

Have gotten my second delivery complete with the issue 6 Plague Marines now painted, here they are:

Champion with plague knife, powerfist and plasma gun on his backpack. Power fist and knife are from the multi part PM kit and the head is from the Deathshroud kit:

I converted the Blight Launcher marine to a standard bolter guy, arm and head from the multi part PM kit:

The simplest was a mere head swap, courtesy of the Blightlord Terminator kit:

And a group shot:

And here is my Conquest unit of 6 from issues 2 and 6:

I am now probably two weeks away from my delivery of issues 7-10 (Primaris Librarian, 2 shade pots, 6 more poxwalkers and a myphitic blight hauler) so I am at a bit of a loss as to what to paint from my pile whilst I wait. I am probably going to try and paint the 2 Myphitic Blight Haulers I already have and maybe a Helbrute. Maybe even Ekene Dubaku. Any preferences from the blog readers out there? Thanks for looking.

As it was I decided on painting the two Myphitic Blight Haulers that I have to paint, I aim to get them done by some point over the weekend so hopefully there will be a progress update soon.

@Commander Cain: One of my fears by subscribing was that I would just be adding to the pile, but the every 4 week delivery is proving a great motivational factor to get things done. As for the bases I always go pretty basic, I marvel at the work and time that others spend on basing. I just cannot see myself picking my game up that much.

@Tyranid Horde: Nurgle it is!

@LordMcAllister: Fair criticism on the verdigris, I was looking at the pictures and thought that it was a bit much so will revisit it and minimise it over the weekend. I was lazy and just slopped some Nikilakakakak Oxide on it.

And remember, the flesh is weak:

I plan to sell the GSC half and probably the Space Wolf pack leader, that leaves me with a Redemptor Dreadnought, unit of Aggressors and another 5 Intercessors. Looking at the sprue for the Intercessors the extra bits will be extremely useful in converting my as yet unbuilt Conquest issue 1 Intercessors, so there is plenty of scope there.

Thanks for looking!

Post by: Commander Cain

Before you go selling off the gs cult part you may want to look and see if any of the bits would make good conversion fodder to add to your Nurgle army. The models are quite easy to chop up and change, combined with some poxwalkers and renegade militia (which I believe come in the conquest magazines) you could net yourself some great looking mutated infantry

Painting Warhammer : A new project: Chaos Knights and now Warcry Iron Golem. @ 2018/10/13 08:20:26

Post by: ListenToMeWarriors

@Commander Cain: Good call on the conversion parts, but I have already made a GSC army so have a good few conversion parts in my bits box (with the exception of the new Aberrant bits). But you have definitely got me thinking on converting the cultists that will arrive at some point.

When the Myphitic Blight Haulers first came out I think a lot of DG players slept on how useful they could be. They are armed with a Missile launcher, Multi melta and Bile Spurt (12" range, assault d3 strength 6 , -1 ap Plague weapon). Add to that 3 close combat attacks at ws 4, -2 ap, also a plague weapon so re-rolling 1's. Have a unit of 3 of them and you add 1 to all hit rolls because of the Tri-Lobe rule, effectively making them bs 3+. They have a Daemonic +5 Invulnerable save, are toughness 7 with 8 wounds and also a base 3+ save with the bonus of Disgustingly Resilient. They do not suffer the penalty for moving and firing with heavy weapons and have a move of 10" giving an effective range of "58 with the missile launcher or "34 with the multi melta. They are also a moving cover platform for infantry with all infantry that are entirely within "7 of a hauler gaining the benefit of cover when making armour saves. Phew.

A unit of 3 is in excess of 400pts, so they are not cheap, but I think they offer some great anti armour (or horde) for the DG and a unit of 3 takes up just one fast attack slot. Anyway I got my other two done, here they are:

Here they are with my first painted one to create the Tri-lobe (note that the red portion in the Nurgle symbol indicates their position in the tri lobe)

Until next time.

I think you're missing one of the other key selling point of the Blight Hauler - they're one of the few GW kits that are reasonably priced! You can pick a trio of them up for about the same cost as one crawler and that adds 400+pts to your army.

Three Crawlers is probably a more optimal choice and costs a similar number of points, but it is three times as expensive.

Too true, I do love the Plagueburst Crawlers though, such a great kit. And whenever they are delivered with Conquest I will have my third. There was a DG list that ran 10 of them at tournaments to great success.

Am halfway through constructing my Tooth and Claw Primaris, must say that I am very impressed with the intercessor kit, so many bits!

You're really knocking it out with the nurgle stuff at the moment.

Those blight haulers sound nasty to go up against. The fleshy pink mouth parts make a nice counter point to the greens and brasses of the rest of the model.
The plague marines have quite a range of colours on them, yet don't suffer from it. The grossly lurid yellow boils make really nice spot colours.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. In terms of progress my next delivery of Conquest is not due until at least late next week so I have been playing around with a few things.

Firstly I bought some Micro Sol and Micro Sel for transfers, here is a test on my Intercessor Sgt. Basically I used Micro Sol and Sel as advised (I forget which is which) and then used some Lahmian Medium to take the shine off the transfer. Ultimately I am very happy with the result, the product really helps the transfer to conform the curved surface and the medium removed the shine. So a vast tranfer-a-thon may be in order as well as an order to chapter customiser (s not z damn you!).

Your thoughts?

I have also gotten my Tooth and Claw Primaris made up, and started with the Redemptor Dreadnought. Here is a very early WIP, obviously the gold needs a lot of work, but I love this miniature:

Finally I visited my local GW this morning to purchase the 500th Store Anniversary Lieutenant :

So onwards and upwards with the Redemptor today.

That transfer went on really well. I've been pondering an order from chapter customiser myself, but the shipping is insane for a single transfer sheet. Would you be interested in doing a combined order to split the cost?

Painting Warhammer : A new project: Chaos Knights and now Warcry Iron Golem. @ 2018/10/21 12:07:27

Post by: ListenToMeWarriors

Gah, would have loved to split an order but I already placed it yesterday prior to you post. Agreed that $13 shipping for a single transfer sheet is extortionate, but it seems that is the way that global shipping has gone.

As it is I powered on and got my Redemptor Dreadnought done, just waiting on my Celestial Lion transfers to truly finish him off now. But it is nice to add a heavy hitter to my Celestial Lions:

Apologies for some of the lighting in the photos, it is a weirdly mixed sunny and overcast sky here today. I plan to either paint the special edition Lieutenant or Aggressors today.

Just catching up, the blight haulers are looking sweet, I've yet to play against them but they sound nasty!

I have however, gone up against a few of those dreadnoughts in small points games and that not assault cannon is a real menace if you can't bracket it early. Great job on the model, and the transfers do add a lot to the models.

Painting Warhammer : A new project: Chaos Knights and now Warcry Iron Golem. @ 2018/10/24 17:03:35

Post by: ListenToMeWarriors

@PGMason: the potential output of the gatling cannons and frag launchers is a bit daft.

@Commander Cain: I think I will revisit the aquilla, originally it was blue because only the shoulder pauldrons had the blue. I then added the blue to the knee pads as it was all a bit too gold.

@Youwasshock: And a mighty fine mini it is.

@TyranidHorde: yup, the combined 18 shots of just the two galing cannons (heavy onslaught and onslaught) is a lot, throw in 2 d6 frag launchers and the d3 Icarus launcher and it all gets a bit potential overkill.

As it is I have completed the 500th store lieutenant, am generally happy with him but the eyes were a distinct pain. I am in that "do I, don't I?" mode as I think revisiting it may make them worse. We shall see. Anyway, here he is:

Not really sure how useful he is being armed with the heavy 1 master crafted stalker bolt rifle but who knows? Rule of cool prevails. And I guess Lieutenants are there to buff other units rather than expecting much of them in their own right. I also have to think up of a name for him, I will be researching African heritage names later tonight.

Conquest wise my latest delivery has been processed so I hope to see it by the end of the week. Really looking forward to working on the Librarian (or Spiritwalker as they are called in the Celestial Lions).

While the primaris marine style has grown on me, the look of the redemptor still is off putting to me, but your paint job is exceptional. Can’t wait to see them with the transfers added.

The blight haulers are neat little models, not sure if I like the style (again the sculpt, not your work) or not, but they are definitely different.

The Redemptor is definitely a divisive model, personally I love it and this is my third as my Deathwatch already have two.

I got more Tooth and Claw Progress having completed the Aggressors. Originally I was not sure if I like the miniatures but after having built and painted them my opinion has really turned. They are suitably chunky but with lots of nice details. Even better news is that issue 11 of Conquest will come with the 3 Easy To Build flamer Aggressors. Here they are:

It is nice to have added another unit to the army, it is beginning to feel more like an army now moreso than just a couple of units. I reckon I have about 700 odd points painted up, so what is next? These boys:

@Theo: I tend to use it as a go to power cable colour as I tend to not use green elswhere other than laurels and lenses.

@Youwasshock:

Why not? The only unit not game legal here is the three man Reiver unit:

Not even 20 models strong yet, but the addition of the Librarian with the new delivery will change that. You may also notice that the Intercessors now have their tactical/ battleline markings, just waiting for my lion transfers to arrive next. As suggested by Commander Cain I changed the Aquila on the Redemptor to silver to match the rest of the army:

@Youwasshock: I have no idea how I am going to paint the Librarian, I am thinking of going non codex and repeating the gold armour, blue pauldrons and helmet and red robes. We shall see.

@Tyranid Horde: I think the small shade pots are discontinued now, not totally sure though. Issue 7 is great on two fronts, the shades are always useful and it means nothing to paint. I think I will be starting with the Librarian.

Here are issues 8-10 constructed, no converting just a bit of base work on the Blight Hauler to differentiate it from my other three:

I also had a go at differentiating my remaining issue 1 Intercessors with some of the multi part bits, here are the results:

@Snrub: The latest issues do have both New Zealand and Australian dollar prices on the back, so maybe an indication that it will be making its way over to you? I was not that fond of the Primaris either, but the more I paint the more I like.

That brings me onto my Celestial Lion Spiritwalker. I decided to ignore the usual Librarian colours and am quite happy that I stuck with my main chapter colours. I was initially unsure of the red robes but I like them now. Apologies for the poor photos, it is quite overcast today and they do not do the paint job justice imo:

There you see one of the Chapter Customizer chapter symbols, am very happy with them and they arrived a lot quicker than expected. As it is I have added them to everything except the Intercessors so they are up next. Paint wise next it is more Nurgle from issues 9 and 10.

Thanks everyone, managed to get my issue 9 Poxwalkers done marking the completion of issues 1-10. As with the original set of Poxies I did nothing special here, mainly washes and technical paints to get the desired diseased effect. This takes me to 50 painted Poxwalkers, with another 20 to come via Conquest, phew:

So here is my issues 1-10 fully painted haul, with a few added bits from my bits box. I am very happy with this lot:

Obviously the Death Guard side has the weight in numbers but maybe the Marines have the edge with two characters. Retail from GW this lot would have cost me £112 (assuming the Limited edition Lt cost £15 like the others) or £95.62 from my go to online retailer. All told this cost me £56, as I showed interest when this was first announced I got my first three issues for free so I am very happy with the savings as it is currently at 50% savings vs buying direct from GW. Bear in mind this percentage will get worse but that I have not factored paints and washes into these calculations. As it is I am currently very happy with my subscription.

So with two weeks before my next delivery I thought my Celestial Lions needed some old guard, some of the original survivors of the betrayal on Armageddon. Enter these guys:

Thanks for looking.

Nice work! Well done on keeping pace with the releases.

Are all those Marines on sprue unique, or did you get any duplicates?

Made a start on a couple of the Space Marine Heroes, first up I got Brothers Garus and Titus done. I have really enjoyed these, great and characterful sculpts.

(NB: One of the bonuses of photographing your minis is noticing the little issues you have, have tidied up some bits on these now).

Brother Titus:

Brother Garus:

I plan to get three more of these done so that I have at least a basic 5 man Tactical squad to field, I will report on my progress as it happens.

@Tyranid Horde: I owe it to them for some veterans, and I am happy with how the collection is coming along.

@Theophony: Pah! Who needs helmets when you have the protection of the Emperor!

@Youwasshock: My thoughts on them exactly, I need to get into gear and get the full unit painted up.

Today was delivery day of issues 11-14:

All told miniature wise it is:

3 Easy To Build Flamestorm Aggressors.
1 Foul Blightspawn
1 Munitorum Container sprue

Also got a:

Large Drybrush
Pot of Mechanicus standard grey
Painting Handle

All told an rrp of £57 odd for just under £32.

Enough waffle, here are the goodies:

The magazines themselves are on the up as well, with better background information, more detailed rules and proper 40k datasheets as of issue 13.

Hobbywise I am off work for the next 10 days so plan on knocking out my latest additions quickly.

Thanks for looking.

I think this is quite possibly the best thing GW has ever done. If I was still playing 40K I’d be all over this...if I was in the UK as well . I’m sure eventually this will get rolled out across the globe, but I am envious of the supplies that are available in the magazine with the paints and brushes and handle .

Have fun with your 10 days off, can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Managed to get a nice bit of hobby time in during my time off, some nice productivity and getting things done.

Non Conquest wise I got another three of the Space Marine heroes done, so I now have a 5 man Tactical unit:

I am happy with these guys, I added quite a bit of my usual sand and gravel mix to help the sculpted bases mix in with my other bases. I have another 5 to paint up to create a full 10 man unit. Those are *probably* next on my to do list.

So now onto Conquest, first up is my Foul Blightspawn. I already have one painted up so used a head from the Deathshroud kit to differentiate him a bit. So here he is:

And here he is with his partner in crime:

I think these boys are potentially a lot of fun in game, their gun is a 9" range, D6 shots with a strength of 2D6. So a lot of potential to be very damaging or nothing at all, 6 strength 12 shots or potentially 1 strength 2 shot. I am happy with the minor kitbash.

I also got my 3 Flamer ETB Aggressors painted up, I actually have another of this issue and plan to make the unit up to a 5 man. the Aggressors have really grown on me and again I am happy with these guys. The bare head is from the multi part Aggressor kit, I am using them to differentiate the other sculpts as I have another set of these as I want to make a 5 man unit.

Finally is the Munitorum Container and associated gubbins, nothing dramatic here just a base coat, drybrush and a bit of detailing followed by some Imperial Guard tank transfers for numbers. The main colour is Incubi Darkness with a drybrush of Thunderhawk blue:

As ever, thanks for looking.

Cheers Para, I like the Deathshroud head on him with the fleshy tube as a mouth. It is not as good as the Plague doctor esque head of the original but I wanted to differentiate the two.

Thanks for the interest gents, apologies for the lack of updates but the retail trade and Christmas are not productive for free time for hobbying.
Anyway today was delivery day, here is the latest haul:

That is 4 issues, including a Biologus Putrifier, 2 Intercessors, 1 Inceptor, 2 Helblasters, a Munitorum Container, six dice, Rakarth flesh, Mephiston Red, another paper play mat and a space marine chapters poster. Mine appears to be defective as the Celestial Lions are not on the poster.

I have not been totally inactive as I have managed to get most of the ruins from my Kill Team boxed set painted up, just the big piece and a little wall section to go. I did not go too detailed on these but am pleased with how they came out.

And a few of the collection amongst the ruins:

Thanks for looking, a more regular service will resume once Christmas is out of the way. Thanks for looking.

So that leaves the Biologus Putrifier and 5 various Primaris Marines to do of the latest delivery, I aim to start them tonight.

That said I also have my Christmas haul, behold:

Cheers dude, I had a bit of a 4 day break from painting due to going to a music festival but I am nearing completion of the last round of Conquest.

First up is the Biologus Putrifier, this is basically done I just need to pick up some more Nurgle's Rot as I have used the last of my old bottle. Apologies for the light on these pictures, it is a bit dark at the moment and Imgur's advanced editing feature is currently out of commission for desktop users. But here he is:

I was unsure of this mini when it first came out, but have grown to love it since getting it in hand. I especially love the tri lobed symbol of Nurgle created by the eye lenses.

Have also made progress on the Primaris contingent of my last delivery:

Not a lot left to do here, just a bit of detailing on the blue parts of the armour, the faces and the weapons to do. Hopefully I will get them done in the next couple of days.

Anyway, thanks for looking have a good time hobbying!

Woot, more sweet blue n' gold! They look good. I don't own to Chaos minis as much as I did in my youth, but that Nurgle guy is cool. Between the tri-lenses and the hypodermic snout, the mask has a ton of character.

Thanks YWS, he is a characteristic little fellow. Whilst waiting for my next Conquest delivery I have been sidelined a bit by some Astra Militarum GSC minis and the Noise Marine that was released over Christmas. Will hopefully have some progress to show off tomorrow.

I am also finishing off some Ad Mech minis with the aim of selling off my Ad Mech army. Only so much shelf space in the house and currently my sizeable Deathwatch, Death Guard, Imperial Knights and growing Celestial Lions look like they will soon be joined by GSC, that Ridgerunner is amazing.

You want more poorly taken, poorly lit and poorly painted pictures of miniatures? You don't? Well here they are anyway.

Have made my start on the Noise Marine, have started with some washes over metallics. I am going to add some more Slaanesh purples and pinks with a candy red guitar. Am just having fun experimenting with this one really. Early days though:

Have also made a little foray into some GSC based Imperial Guard, have got half a squad done thus far. Just a quick scheme really, it is amazing how the GSC upgrade sprue makes such a difference to the Cadian kit:

So that is the unceremonious start to a new GSC army, the remaining 5 member are 4 lasguns and another grenade launcher.

Thanks for looking, comments, criticism, cooking tips and large (hell, even small) cash donations are welcome.

Cheers YWS, maybe we should just take this to PM's?

I got my delivery of Conquest 19-22, I need to get my arse in gear and finish off my Primaris from the last delivery before even starting on the new stuff. In the meantime I have been adding to my GSC army, yes I am addicted to the new hotness.

I got my Brood Brothers squad finished as well as a Cult Leman Russ, what I learnt from painting the Russ is that I LOVE painting Guard (well GSC) tanks. Definitely more to come of them. Anyway here is my hobby purchase from yesterday:

And here is the Leman Russ, standard loadout of Battle Cannon, Heavy Bolter sponsons and Lascannon at the front:

And here it is with the completed Brood Brothers Squad, probably not even 250pts total but this is the start of my GSC army:

Thanks for looking.

Cheers gents, the Conquest stuff is certainly taking a back seat at the moment. I am also considering ending my subscription after my next delivery with the ETB Redemptor Dreadnought, the thing is with the new Primaris boxed set due out I probably have enough of the other things due to come in the remainder of the subscription. My Death Guard army is also very sizeable so I may have enough there, we shall see.

Anyway I had a second supply drop:

Full disclosure here, I adore the Achilles Ridgerunners. They are *probably* my favourite ever 40k vehicle, case in point I have already bought a third. As it stands I have about 1500pts of GSC, mainly unpainted. I have set about rectifying that. First up is my Primus, a nice enough mini and I am happy with the result:

So that means I have a HQ, troop and Heavy unit painted up, so up next a fast attack choice.

Come in Number 7 your time is up!

Very happy with my first RR, this one is Heavy mining laser and flare launcher armed, I plan on another with the same loadout and another with a spotter and Missile Launcher.

As ever, thanks for looking.

Have made a bit more progress with my GSC, first up is a Ridgerunner armed with Missile Launcher and Spotter. No real conversion work other than the addition of a GSC symbol on the top hatch and a head swap for the spotter using a head from the Atalan Jackal kit:

And here is number 7 along with number 8:

I have also painted up a couple of Elite choices, first up is the Gunslinger of the Cult The Kelermorph. I absolutely love this sculpt, what a great miniature. I hope I did him justice:

I also painted up a Locus, this mini actually comes with 3 alternate heads, this was a bit of a shock to me as only 2 are pictured on the website. I decided to go with the third option as I thought it was the coolest:

And here they are together:

Thanks for looking.

Well it would be a shame to see the end of Conquest, as it is spurring me in to even start mine (20 odd issues just sat there..)
But on cancelling, I was planning the same, the free gifts end after the Redemptor issue anyway, and then I’ll just grab the Rhino one the month after..

I have also got a GSC Kill Team in the works, so it will also be good to see that anyway

Anyway, keep up the good work, it’s all looking awesome.
Thinking of doing a Primaris scheme, almost the opposite way round to the Celestial Lions,so that’s good to see. I like the gold look

Thanks for the replies guys, good motivational material.

@Paradigm: Yes, I have got the Nexos and plan on getting him painted up pretty soon. It is a cracking sculpt so aim to get on to him ASAP.

@Danny76: I actually cancelled this week, Issue 26 will be my last (apart from individual issues I plan to pick up such as the Primaris Apothecary and Chaplain). The paint brush set was a good final freebie, I also got two of issue 23 with the battlefield accessory sprues and missed out on the useless paint in issue 26, so I was happy. Good luck in getting yours started.

@YouWasShock: Do you mean the female Magus or the Jackal Alphus on bike? I have the biker but not the female Magus.

@Theophony: Just odd that they do not even picture it on the website. And thank you.

So GSC wise here is my army thus far:

And here is what I have left to paint:

Ideally I want to get some more troops painted up next, probably in the form of another Brood Brothers squad as they are pretty easy to knock out.

Conquest wise I have been on a construction kick the past few days.

First up are some Reivers modified with bits from the multi part sprue. I mainly swapped heads and mixed up the arms a little, but it should make them different enough from my other three that I got way back in issue 4 or 5:

I also got my Redemptor made up, my other Redemptor has the assault cannon so I used the plasma gun from the multi part kit with a few other additional bits:

Finally I made some modifications to Lord Felthius and the Tainted Cohort. I already have this set and 5 other Blightlords so decided to combine them all to make one squad armed with bileswords and another with Bligh axes (I think those names are right?). That is not possible with the multi part kit.

But first order of business? Replace THAT head on Felthius, I also changed his Manreaper head with one from the Deathshroud kit, it just looks more brutal:

I used various arms and pads from the multi part Blightlord kit to make the following:

Blightlord with sword and Reaper Autocannon, head from the CSM Rhino upgrade sprue:

Blightlord with axe and twin bolter:

Finally Blightlord with axe and combi melta, I think he is my favourite:

All told I have no idea what I will be painting next, but thank you for looking.

The slow train of progress chuffs it way ever onwards. I am still working on my Genestealer Cult but really want to get finishing my Conquest stuff off and adding to my Celestial Lions as I am quite fond of my golden Primaris.

But first up is my Magus, I really love this sculpt. I am not quite sure if I did it justice but it is done for now:

I also got my unit of 5 Man Aberrants done. In game these are apparently close combat monsters. I went for a muted purple scheme for their skin and a kind of turqoise blue as a spot colour on the chitinous armour ro link it to the colour scheme of the rest of the army. I was initially reticent to paint these up but am generally happy with how they turned out:

Am currently halfway through painting another unit of Brood Brothers (basically GSC Traitor Guard) and the Clamavus.

As ever, thanks for looking.

Looks great , really like the coloring of the cloak.

The one thing that draws my attention right away is the face, which is great as that should be a focal point. It doesn’t look too sinister which I’m torn on. On one hand he should be just malevolent, but on the other it does a great job of remind in us that they were once human. Well done.

Thank you Gobert, hopefully you will be happy with my latest hodge podge update.

First up is some GSC Progress in the form of a Clamavus and another 10 Brood Brothers so at least I have two troop units fully painted.

Here is MC Jazzy Clamavus, mixing his way to a battlefield near you:

And the Brood Brothers, here in glorious Blur-O-Vision:

And a close up of two of them, the cult symbol is not an actual option for Brood Brothers in game but I wanted to Cultify the unit a bit:

I have also finally got round to my final 5 Space Marine heroes for my Celestial Lions, I must admit to loving these sculpts and all told I think they make a great Tactical Squad:

And with my previous 5:

Phew, finally proving that I refuse to join the hype here are the new Havocs:

I am happy with my own Reaper Chaincannon kitbash, simply a gatling cannon from the Repulsor kit fitted onto a heavy bolter:

So that is all from a bumper update, thanks for looking.

Forgot to mention that I also added a Raptor head on the chaincannon guy, the Havoc heads are a bit odd in that the helmeted ones have wires coming out of the back that attatch to the backpacks.

Have actually gotten back to the initial point of this blog and painted a couple of Conquest minis, just a couple of Intercessors but I like how they came up. Just a headswap from the full Intercessor kit for one of them, he looks like he has been in the wars.

This led me to thinking of doing a couple of army progress shots, the first one being a painted shot and the second is what I have left to do. So first up my Celestial Lions:

You may notice Marneus Calgar and his honour guard in that shot, yes they are Ultramarines but I plan to paint them up in the Lions colours...the codex be damned!

I also decided to do similar shots for my GSC, am quite happy with my progress on these as the army has only been out a couple of months:

And what is left to do:

If anyone is interested I can also do similar shots for my Death Guard, Deathwatch and Imperial Knight armies. I do not think that I have shown any of the latter two armies on this blog. Anyway, thanks for looking.

Great progress on all the armies! Bring on more army shots if you've got the time!

I'm also really liking your SM Heroes tactical squad, really nice paintjobs! I'd like to get the models myself, but I'm not too keen on buying blind. I guess one wouldn't hurt..!

Some great progress since I last had a look, Abby looks great! Poor Lion though!

Your GSCs look awesome too, they've got a great cohesive look to them.

Wow, nice collection of great looking armies and put together at quite a pace (don't think I'd have kept up with the magazine releases let alone all the other stuff you've added). My favourites are the marines, really effective colour scheme and your gold looks really good. You've even managed to make the aggressor models look good, intrigued to see if you can work the same magic on the inceptors.

Thanks for the kind words and support everyone, really helps with the motivation.

I have made a little more Celestial Lion progress, here is a WIP of a nearly finished Redemptor Dreadnought armed with Plasma Incinerator. This is the ETB model from Conquest with the main weapon arm nabbed from the proper Redemptor kit. I also added a searchlight to add a bit of interest to the rather bare top of the model and an aquila from the Imperial Knight kit, just had to remove the connecting lug and slightly bend it to fit the shoulder pauldron. Here he is resplendent in poor British light:

So now onto army shots, completely forgot to photograph my unpainted Deathguard minis but all told it is about 30 models:

By far my biggest army, at least 3000pts painted, probably more.

Much smaller are my Deathwatch, and yes, I do like Dreadnoughts very much!

Here is the big issue, all the unpainted stuff. A lot of it:

The Razorback will probably be moved over to the Celestial Lions.

Finally here are my few Imperial Knight models, no particular house:

To complete them I have a Castellan, 2 Knight kits and the Canis Rex kit to construct and paint.

As ever thanks for looking, have a great weekend.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. All around great stuff.

I did surpress a chuckle at what you consider to be a lot of unpainted stuff, though. Your purchasing restraint is to be commended.

@Theophany: Cheers dude, it is a big slice of Deathguard though. No Plaguebearers though, I tend to stay away from the daemons.

@Paradigm: I wish they were Epic, they would have certainly been cheaper to buy!

@Youwasshock: Cheers, all told I think my painted stuff to unpainted stuff is about 50/50 about 200 odd minis on each side. The real issue is storing and displaying the painted stuff, a trip to Ikea may be in order.

@Gobert: I really do need to revisit my Knights, agreed on the scheme. The purple with bronze and black and white accents is my favourite.

@Maharg: Show me a wargamer with an unpainted miniature and I will show you a liar! If I can provide anyone with a smidgeon of inspiration then I will be happy.

Have happily added a bit more heavy artillery for my Celestial Lions with my second Redemptor Dreadnought for them. Did anybody mention that I really like Dreadnoughts? Enough waffle, on with the photos:

And here he is with his brother in arms:

And a little look at what is to come:

Sigh...I failed with my no purchase pledge. It was pay day today so I made a couple more Celestial Lion purchases, this time going the old school route with some possible survivors from Armageddon.

Namely some assault Terminators and a Devastator squad. The former are definitely old school from maybe 2004 odd but I am a sucker for Terminators no matter how far they are from their lore effectiveness. Not sure if I will go lightning claws or thunder hammers but we shall see.

Devastator wise I will go with 2x Lascannon and 2x plasma cannon for some anti tank, something that the Primaris marines certainly lack.

Progress wise I have painted more Conquest marines, I only have my 3 final Reivers and Death Guard tainted cohort left to do then I am done with my Conquest subscription bar my Forbidden Planet purchases.

Apologies for the dull update, more pictures will come tomorrow. Thank you for looking.

@Ghostmaker: Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

@Youwasshock: It is a quandry, I am leaning towards the claws even though they are probably the less competitive option.

Onto progress, I have been clearing up a few odds and ends I had for various units. When it was out I picked up another copy of the Aggressor issue of Conquest. One of the minis has been sequestered into the Deathwatch leaving me with two spares, this meant I could put together a unit of 5 Aggressors for my Lions, the only change I made to one of the stock models was a bare head from the full Aggressor kit. I also changed the helmet on the sergeant, or in the Lions case pack Leader, to the lore appropriate black. I have repeated this throughout the army.

Primaris Aggressor Celestial Lions:

And the full unit:

I also painted the two Helblasters from a Conquest issue and added them to another three from Dark Imperium to create a full unit of five:

Am happy with how these turned out, I especially like the one headswap.

Finally I sequestered an unpainted Razorback from my Deathwatch "to be painted" pile. He will probably be used to ferry around half of the Space Marine Heroes Tactical squad I recently painted. I am really happy with it but he looks a bit crappy in the photos, apologies for that:

Finally I kitbashed a few more Intercessor marines and another Primaris Lieutenant, everybody knows that you can never have too many Primaris Lieutenants:

Thanks for looking.

Well it has been a while since I posted in this blog, mainly due to working away at my other blog for CMON's A Song Of Ice and Fire miniatures game taking my attention away from 40k. But the release of the new Chaos Knights has changed that, to that end I have this little lot to work on:

From looking at the kits the main canopy and shoulder pads are easily interchangeable between the Chaos and Imperial kits, so the Canis Rex will be suitably Chaosified by a bit of kit bashing. The Castellan and Armiger Helverins will be converted using left over bits and chaos Rhino sprue parts.

But my loyalist tendencies remain as well, I am currently working on a single Celestial Lion Intercessor:

I have never really bothered with Funko Pops but could not resist buying the DIY one to act as a cheerleader on my painting bureau.

Finally I have started work on my Loyalist Castellan, nothing major here but hopefully I will get him painted up before I start on my Chaos Knights:

Thanks for looking.

Not only a great motivational piece, but if it’s a bobble head then getting approval for increasing the ranks becomes easier too.

“Should I buy more Primaris marines?” (Table bump) model nods yes (even better than a magic 8ball).

Thanks everyone, yesterday was a construction rather than painting day, I managed to get three of my six Chaos Knights made up.

First up is the Knight Despoiler, this is basically a Warden/Paladin but Chaosified. I used a number of bits from the new Chaos kit to make him more despoiled. I ended up using a faceplate, tilt shield, shoulder pad and various chains and spikes to make him fit into the army:

I also got the close combat Knight Rampager made up, I really like this kit it just adds a lot more visual interest to the Knight line:

With Knights I only magnetise the section between the legs and body, this makes them easier to transport and pack away. To that end you can swap the Despoiler and Ravager legs and body like this:

Finally up is my first Wardog with autocannons, nothing special here but I think it looks the part:

I think I am erring towards painting these up as the Iconoclast House Herpetrax (that is the study of snakes, not that other thing, get your mind out of the gutter) whose dull green fits in well with my Death Guard.

Anyway, thanks for looking. If anyone wants a closer look at the new kits just ask.

You can say it’s the study of snakes all you want, but if it’s tied to Nurgle then it’s definitely the other thing .

They are looking great so far.

Progress!

First up is my Autocannon Wardog the amazingly named "Suitably Impressive Name To Follow":

I am loving the main House Herpetrax colours of green, black and biege on these miniatures and the new Chaos Knights transfer sheets really help to set them off.

I also got my Knight Rampager done, had great fun working on him and I hope that shows with the finished miniature:

The only thing I magnestise on my Knights is the body and legs, this just makes them easier to store and transport. I just use a 10mm x2mm rare earth magnet and they do the job really well:

So expect more Chaos Knights soon, thanks for looking.

Cheers everyone, have gotten my other Wardog and three chaos knights built up so hope to get some paint on them soon. I have used some Taro modelmaker bits to make the Dominus class Knight a bit more imposing so pictures of them soon.

That said...I have been sidelined by the release of Warcry. So with that do you recommend rolling the models into this blog? I already have my separate ASOIAF blog so three seems a bit excessive? Thoughts and opinions welcome

Cheers everyone, seems like Warcry is going to go in here then...and I have some work to do.

I am not even going to construct the three warbands until I have painted the two from the starter set. I may paint the Shattered Stormvault before the starter box scenery though as it seems a little easier to power through. That said I have my first Warcry model done, and who else but the Ogor Breacher from the Iron Golem faction. I basically copied the GW scheme, the armour is Blood For the Blood God over leadbelcher and a mediumed down black wash to calm it down a bit.

Thanks for looking.

I am sure that the warband will be released separately at a later date, hopefully they can shoehorn the Warbands into Shadespire and vice versa.

@Youwasshock: thank you, I felt a bit odd basically copying the GW scheme but I really like the way it looks.

I finally got all the terrain from the starter made up yesterday, there is so much of it. I think if you can get 20-25% off the starter set that the terrain represents a pretty good wargaming investment. Have also begun more work on the Iron Golems warband, just need to decide on a terrain colour scheme next.

A bit more progress on my Warcry stuff. Started with a few easy terrain bits, I chose a simple scheme that hopefully pops on the tabletop. It is just dry brushing with a black undercoat then brushed with Incubi Darkness, Thunderhawk blue and then a final dusting of Ushabti bone so it is nice and easy:

I also got a couple more Iron Golem warriors painted up. First was probably my favourite of all the sculpts is the Signifer as nothing seems less practical than going into skirmish combat than carrying a great big metal icon to show your allegiance:

I also got the Chaos Dwarf Armator done as well, I may well make myself a metal beard after seeing this guy:

And the boys together:

5 more to go and the warband is done. I may also start on my least favourite of all the sculpts, the chaos chicken Raptoryx's.

Thanks for looking.
