What’s more, to help commemorate this milestone, we’re releasing not one but TWO exclusive miniatures on celebration day. We’ll have more news on these soon, but for now, we can confirm that one will hail from the Mortal Realms, and the other from the 41st Millennium…
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm assuming this isn't just going to be Hong Kong (the 500th store) but across all GW stores but who knows
We wouldn’t have got this far were it not for some of the best fans in the world (that’s you guys!), and so, to mark this long, wonderful journey we’ve been on, we’re inviting you to join us for a day of celebration. On October the 20th, every one of our stores will play host to an epic, daylong party in honour of Warhammer.

I expect another not terribly exciting Primaris Lieutenant tbh, despite the fact a Gravis armoured captain in a different pose would probably be more interesting at this point.
ListenToMeWarriors wrote: Haven't they been available a while (store birthday dependent obviously)? I have had that Primaris Captain for at least six months, possibly longer.
Are we sure they are the same miniatures referred to for the 500th store?
I would be surprised if they're not, but yeah the Primaris Captain isn't "new". He came out in 2017.
The Nighthaunt though is far newer.
I'm going to make a guess that these will be the two, since the event isn't slated until October 20th. Having the ghost be available for everyone to buy for Halloween would be a smooth move for them...especially since he's actually in the army book, unlike the Primaris Captain.

If it was going to be those two which they’ve already shown, they’d have just shown them in the article. They’ll be new models.
I just hope these models look different enough to actually make them worth getting. Something with different weapons and it's own warscroll would be nice.
There is a poster on the bolter and chainsword facebook group who attended the 500th store opening who reports that sm terminators ala the Japan series Re coming - I assume this is in addition to the exclusive models teased.

The Space Marine Heroes Series 2 are all Blood Angel Terminators and are pictured on the Space Marine Heroes website:
I was hoping they release Grombrindal's 40th Birthday in stores only for this occasion. Instead, we get the two EXACT SAME generic models that you can get on your stores anniversary.
Seriously hoping for any info on the gaming event. If that is something I cant participate in, then HARD PASS.
Underwhelming as usual, unfortunately. I'm all about limited edition figures, but they just do so damned little to make these stand out. The ghost looks pretty good, but I'm not up to speed on Nighthaunts model line.
The marine is woefully mediocre. I'm even more shocked considering the lack of wargear options on Primaris models. Why not a Primaris Captain or Lieutenant, etc. with bespoke wargear like a few of the other limited releases? Who's excited to rush in for a model with a bolter?
I'm all about monopose infantry models, but monopose characters with zero wargear options will be the death of this game for me going forward.

Always look on the bright side. It could be worse.
I've always wondered if the rebreathers some Marines wear are actually part of their helmets. That's confirmation that they are indeed. And, that the helmets can be separated into segments. Neat, if nothing else.
The helmet design on the marine is cool, sure. I also like that he has different chest emblem. But overall it's a a bit meh. Doesn't really even look like a character, could be just a standard intercessor. I hoped that they would have at least introduced a new loadout option via this limited mini, like they did with that power fist captain. It is utterly bizarre that GW keeps producing these different lieutenants without actually giving them any interesting gear. Ultimately it is a Primaris with a rifle an I have plenty of those already.

They actually highlighted it as specific to the Primaris' armor with the Reivers first.
Not gonna lie though, I think I'll be getting him for my Raptors.

I actually really like that model, he's far cooler than the Leiutenant, in my opinion.
Love the Marine’s Bruce-Willis-in-Die-Hard hairline. Pretty cool miniature and taps into some of the helmet modularity Jes Goodwin hinted at in early WHTV interviews.

It'd be nice if they had gone with a carbine/power sword, giving non-space wolves a carbine/melee weapon option for Lts.
If they'd made special rules for this one time only Lt. it would only have led to screams of outrage from those that couldn't get him, and pressure to release yet another unlimited one with the new loadout
so if they don't want to make the primeris jack of all trades like normal marines (yet), better not to give them variety even in LE minis

They did that with the captain, and that was great. It is not like the loadout is hard to kitbash.

The character options are completely stupidly restrictive. Even a Intercessor sergeant (who has utterly crap options) has more options than a primaris lieutenant. They don't need to be jack of all trades, but damn, there need to be some variety. It is utterly bonkers that they cannot even have a sword with their rifle even though both captains and sergeants can.

But if they give Lieutenants a sword, some other company might start making resin swords and profit off the lack of a model!
Or something. I dunno, presumably there's some logical reason for it, but I have no idea what it is.
I think the Primaris dude really highlights how bland and homogenous the whole line is. I feel like GW has done a ton of exciting stuff recently, but, despite even good sculpts, I haven't seriously considered getting any Primaris stuff... The line's inflexibility just means it doesn't really have any legs.

Except GW deliberately made sure Primaris hand is the same size as Squataris one so every single thirdparter (and their grandma too) already produce those...
But yeah, the restriction is idiotic. On one hand, there is no power sword in either Primaris unit so GW just told the players 'convert something yourself', on the other, Lieutenants have specific loadouts, even the SW one. He can have sword/pistol or rifle/axe. Doing say axe/pistol is verboten, even thought you don't even need to convert anything, there is plenty of pistol arms leftover from Primaris sergeants once you build them
They're really not trying very hard with the commemorative minis any more, are they?
I disagree, they're trying very hard indeed...to pretend their history prior to AoS/Primarishammer 40,000 is a figment of our collective imagination. "Scratchbuilding? Posable multipart models? Specialist Games that came as complete products rather than bite-size(but still pricey) segments? Nah gov, no clue, you must be thinking of someone else - here, have a shiny shiny Primaris Marine, this one is lunging very slightly further to the left than the last one was!"
I'm curious to know how much these single-figure sprues cost to produce. Cuz if it's relatively cheap I'd hope GW could release some more variants of other HQs too, like a different farseer or ork boss. It'd be like all those older metal variants of days gone by.
Thing is, I'd love to buy more Primaris Marines. I am eagerly waiting GW to release new Primaris Marines. But I want something actually new, not the same thing I already have in a slightly different pose. I am not hard to please, I would have been happy with a guy with some weapons that were not an option before.

It's sad too because if they ventured a bit into some of the other Founding Chapters like Raven Guard, White Scars, or Salamanders or if they went a bit more the route they went with 'old' Marines where armor was a bit more ornate for the specific Chapters? It'd go a long way...as would some more dynamic posing.
Yeah, they don't even need to get too carried away with it... just some detailing on the armour that makes him look like it's not just a kitbash of the standard models with a new head would make a huge difference.
I suspect that part of the problem is that they're having to play it safe to ensure that these actually sell enough to justify making them... Making something overly Chapter-specific really limits the potential audience, which wasn't as big a problem when the models were metal, but is a much bigger problem when they need to pay for creation of a plastic sprue...
Full points for their Social Media guy trying his hardest to put a positive spin on it on Facebook, though... he has his work cut out for him.

Oh for sure. Kinda like how the two captains have different weapons. The whole mono-pose angle might work to a degree, so long as the options are there. Bonus points if the weapons are interchangeable between characters.

He kind of has to... That's his job. He's not responsible for the stupid decisions, just has to try to make the most of them, and most likely has a fairly narrow script to stick within to boot.

Indeed. “Yes I agree it sucks” <fired>
Not sure what some people expect from a corporate comms channel.
Agreed. The question is, is a really nice head worth buying a whole, expensive model that doesn't really offer anything else?
If you have a mate who wants to build a helmeted version, the head could become available.
I know I normally build these models with the helmet that also comes on the sprue. As the model is carrying the helmet there 'could' (pure speculation) be a variant arm as well.
I think Primaris concept is that they are the new reinforcements in armour X, no fancy chapter weapons and just stock troops. With that said Space marines are GW bread and butter so any new commemorative mini that they release has a high chance of being a space marine.
I'm a hobbyist above all, I love conversions, sculpting and all that, so this may sound odd but I actually like that Primaris are simple. I like that so much that in more than 2 decades of this I actually assembled a loyalist space marine and painted it for the first time, before that space marines always have been a quite amateurish miniature concept, basically walking christmas trees. So yes I do like Primaris simplicity and better proportions, few weapons, no decorations and slight differences. Pretty much like Starwars clones thing.
Sold on the commemorative miniature but not going to a GW just for that, the commuting price alone would buy me another miniature and I rather do just that.
NAVARRO wrote: I think Primaris concept is that they are the new reinforcements in armour X, no fancy chapter weapons and just stock troops.
I think they're limited pose, limited option Marines in a different scale to all other Marines to fight off the wealth of 3rd party options that exist out there.
Now yes, you're probably right about the fluff reasons behind their lack of equipment options, but I just cannot see any other explanation for the sudden lack of posability and the complete lack of options that Marines have enjoyed for decades than this being the post-Chapterhouse world we inhabit.

I see what you say about the characters, easy build kits and the first starters but Im quite happy with options on the later more expensive individual boxes, for example intercessors box is quite a good sprue kit with good options.

I trhink when he says options, he doesn't mean 3 types of bolt rifle but rather the plethora of non-bolt weapons that regular marines have access too.
NAVARRO wrote: ... Im quite happy with options on the later more expensive individual boxes, for example intercessors box is quite a good sprue kit with good options.
5 poses, doubled, and three different types of bolter.

5 poses, doubled, and three different types of bolter.
Humm thats not really fair as far as poses go. Since its individual separate arms (some quite specific) and heads you can assemble them in much more poses than just 5 mate and you know it.
Weapons just the standard 3 bolters, pistol and knife option, cheeky bit is if you want CC weapons you need to buy a couple chapter conversion sprues.
If the main concern is weapons options not much is going to change soon is it? I mean they will slowly replace the legacy models and thats why you don't see these primaris with all the options now… that would probably upset many legacy collectors.
As for poses Intercessor set lets you build plenty of them even if the main leg set is only 5.
I bet we'll see a new primaris intercessor box / tactical squad box in a few years, with a weapon option or two thrown in and updated rules. You know, so people get to buy it again or be running sub-optimal units.
Yay, something to be used as a slightly more interesting primaris sergeant. Given we all already have a monopose lieutenant with a bolt rifle. Still gonna buy it becasue I lack self control to vote with my wallet.
I like the nighthaunt model, and will probably get it. I think the space marine looks pretty boring, but then I think that of space marines in general so this is not surprising for me.

With all due respect, that isn't something to boast about.
At least with two very generic models coming out we are guaranteed it has nothing to do with any impending Ork release. Maybe the next generic milestone min could be a stormcast figure. There is more than marines and undead in GW inventory. They should celebrate the other factions as well.

Definitely would have preferred a Squat Arbites. Maybe for the 1000th store.
The more you spend, the more freebies you receive.
€60,- you get four art prints (two 40k, two Age of Sigmar)
€120,- you get to choose either a 40k bag with deckbox and sleeves or an Age of Sigmar bag with warscroll binder
€180,- you can get one of the two minis, though you can also buy them at €25,- a piece.
Prices may vary depending on local currencies obviously. The art books, painting mat and brush holder are sold separately, no price mentioned yet.
Also, for every €25,- you spend you get one auction credit. Dunno how this works, but three auctions will be held throughout the day.
They cost £30 or £35 at the store birthday, I had a look but passed on it. There was also some metallic dice I didn't fancy paying a bunch of money for.
Kid_Kyoto wrote: Art books? Anyone know anything about the art books?
probably these
There are also two art books available that will provide a feast for the eyes (and the soul – useful with the Soul Wars raging). Like the models, there is one packed with Warhammer 40,000 imagery, focusing on the twisted servants of the Dark Gods, and one for Warhammer Age of Sigmar which gathers lots of images on the theme of Death. Each of them is a hardback tome brimming with gorgeous (if somewhat grisly) art and is a perfect addition to any coffee table.

Aye, mine opened at 9am (Coventry). A fair few people, maybe 20 odd, there for opening. A brisk trade on the Primaris, less so on the Nighthaunt mini. Managed to get my Lieutenant but you can order one for next week if they run out of the 32 physical copies they had of each miniature.

Do you know if the nighthaunt has actual rules?
Yes. Kind of. It is just a Bladegheist Revenant, so it is just a stand in for a model in a unit rather than a character. Maybe a response to the Guardian of Souls with Eternity Glass being a store exclusive too?
Got a nice 500th store pin badge and "last stand" battle plan with my purchase. Just the other things offered as BrookM showed in his post, postcard set free with £50+ purchase etc.
There are no surprises on the Lt sprue (pics spoilered for size)
Something they didn't mention on Facebook was that if you spent €120,- you'd only get the backpack, not the art prints. If you spend €180,- you only get a mini and not the prints or backpack. If you want it all you'd have to cough up €240,- which was not mentioned anywhere in the Facebook post.
Not cool, as I grabbed €120,- worth in books and paints, expecting both the prints and the backpack + deckbox, but then was told that the prints were not included. If I'd known that I would've dropped half and just settled for the prints.
The backpack is also amazingly SMALL. More like a fanny pack than an actual backpack.
Didn't get any extra swag either. No pins, no sweatbands or the like. Or maybe next week, that's when they'll be getting the prints, backpacks and event minis.
This is something I don't understand from GW. I mean I love their products I buy a crap tonne every year.
They release some special miniature every once in awhile to try get people in to stores to get products/promote sales etc (granted marketing). Last while it has been primarius (albeit almost same guy every time, omg he has a helmet in a hand, omg he has a plasma pistol, omg he has a powerfist, omg is almost exactly the same as every primarius ever...). Granted I don't like Primarius, but kinda disappointed.
If they actually came out with a good looking model I would buy it no matter what (or go into the store to get it). However, tbh I haven't seen it, primarius are just big marines with less options (especially when have DW nowdays and have all the options, modeling wise).
The nighthaunt mini looks good but if had other products there that are awesome . However, anyone else sick of primarius? I didn't go cause I new would be hectic and tbh, I would only not get some crappy primarius, BFD.

I went to the store but ended up not buying anything,
If im gonna spend that much money on a single plastic mini it have to be something special. Like Lord-Celestant or Lord -Exorcist. And even then I would prefer to buy it in a bundle to get some discount.
Both looks too damn plain for that price imo.
Maybe if nighthaunt was my main army I could do it, just maybe.
In my store the primaris were sold out and the nighthaunt had like at least 50 boxes left.
Generally curious, how many bought the primaris to sell? And how many actually want to keep the plainness? I don't really care (I keep my armies primaris free is good to be, is my rhyming motto), just curious who really likes the plain Jane primaris? If you do that's good. Just curious.

I do mate. Don’t get me wrong I like old marines too and I have two full battle companies of them, and I do like their ostentation.
That being said there’s something about the clean aesthetic of the Primaris that I really enjoy painting; they are almost like a modern reimagining of the original 1987 Space Marines who didn’t have any ornamentation. Back when marines were just psychos and gangers given power armour and some genetic enhancements.
So really they all scratch slightly different itches but I like them all!

All good mate. Stokes for fokes. I did bite the bullet and bought 2x tooth and claw (because when play power with mates the power of intercepters (whatever are the normal marines, was to low for DW to ignore) But I feel dirty. Still have not seen one primaris SE character I have ever liked.
EDIT:
I havent painted them yet so I am still primaris free is place to be for about 4 more days

My issue at this stage is simply your bizarre insistence on speaking in absurd technicalities. The internet has almost infinitely too much of that nowadays.
I see they had 500 facts for 500's days number 1 and 2 should have been the link for rules for the special characters you could buy tbh rest should be the crap they spewed like Nagash is god of death... Who does there marketing should be like Gork and Mork: Green and Yellow (is a link to a painting tutorial that gives a good perspective on to lay down yellow), or like Nagash has risen (is a link that gives 5% off GW products for one day only etc)...
Not sure why there is surprise at the 40k model being Primaris.. I can’t see what else it would ever be.
The real surprise for this and the birthday models were for AoS. It being Not A Stormcast. And then a few people complaining ‘oh more Nighthaunt, why couldn’t it be SCE’
I think we should welcome any time Marines and SCE aren’t the special model or the starter box models etc, as it’s a rare thing to happen really
Still, not a fan of the Primaris. Really dislike the helmet hand, only beaten by the ETB helmet attached to body sculpt.
Ruins conversions that one, this is slightly better, but I need a whole arm, and then a helmet etc
Has anyone gone to their store and had to order a model? Can the model be shipped to home or does it need to be picked up in store? It isn't a huge deal for me, but my GW store is four hours from me and I won't be out this way for two weeks.
I am actually really liking that LT, but I might be giving him a different hand and head. But I like the Stalker Bolt Rifle. It pairs well with a lot of weapons.
As far as I know it's got to be picked up in store, and I've seen people on facebook saying it will be 3-4 weeks before ordered ones arrive
(not sure if that's universal or just in specific countries but if they actually have to make more its not too surprising considering how overstretched their production is at the moment)

Fair enough. It makes sense that they want you to come back. It gets you back in the store, possibly to buy more stuff. I will check with my store owner. It would be okay that way too, I will be back in December.

I ordered one this evening from my local GW. They'd shifted all 150 during the day, apparently. Staff weren't sure when the re-stocks would arrive - maybe Wednesday, maybe the week after. I'm not bothered about the time, as I got it for a friend for Xmas.

GW have released plenty of limited edition 40k models over the years that weren't Space Marines. It's only since Primaris came along that they seem to have decided that's all that's worth making.

I was told three to five weeks when I went in to buy the models today. The store was already out (I went late so expected this) but was surprised at the length of time to fill orders. Apparently they've scheduled a production run based on total orders today and will not be making any more after that. Ever.

I know, and I’ve got most of them that came that weren’t marines since the early 2000’s Games Days.
But the same was true before Primaris, it was nearly all normal marines.
My point being is people being surprised when it is Primaris or SCE is odd.
The surprise is when the odd model comes that isn’t.
Pretty happy with my haul, backpack, free birthday mini and art book to come.
A bit disappointed the store had no Empire stuff (expected but still) and no Necromunda (says it's mail order only?). Got to share memories of the 100th store party I celebrated many years ago.

Last time I walked into a GW and asked them to take a look at the Necromunda stuff that had come out that weekend, I was told they didn't have it. It appears in store on release day, they sell it, then they don't get it back in stock.
I remember thinking to myself "Should I get him? Should I not get him? I won't!", then thinking I will on the last day, but had no way of getting to the store. x2

Still have my Sgt Centarius somewhere.
Free birthday mini?
At the (cough-cough-cough dollars) level you get a backpack, and free mini but not Sgt Pentacentarius, just the one they sell at shop birthdays.
You can spend 100gbp on ebay for one of those primaris. You know what I think I will do a tutorial instead… how to make one of those for cheap with the intercessor box

What are the things in that picture that aren't the Terminators/Primaris miniatures?

Also, I picked up 34 Terminator Captains and 82 Terminator Chaplains from the rebranding.
Love Looting! Not even the Omnisssiah taking my poor car into his logical arms can stop me
Can you explain a bit more? I'm not entirely sure what your post is referring to!
Mad Doc very kindly frequently picks up a lot of hard to get store anniversary / rebranding / event exclusive models for people unable to attend over in the Looting Facebook group -

Bases, I HATE doing bases but I'd like to call my models done, so I'm giving the premolded bases a try.
Thought those might be bases! What about the other two things though? Hard to tell from the picture, but they look like badges...which i didn't even know GW did, if that's the case!

GW are undergoing a slow re-branding of all stores from Games Workshop to Warhammer stores and yes they are badges 1 a round Inquisition pin badge and the other is a metal 500th store badge which were given out yesterday in every GW store.

Ah, hadn't seen the mention of the badge anywhere before! Searching for it now i can see it mentioned on some specific US store Facebook pages if you spent $50, but there was no mention of it here in the UK or the GW site that i can see.
Kid_Kyoto wrote: Um what he said, yeah. They had several others but pins are not really my thing.
One guy on line had a 100th store pin, but apparently there were 2 100th store celebrations? The Sgt Centurious one and another a few years ago?
If anyone can give some more context on the badges/pins that would be helpful, I've not heard anything about those before at all so I've no idea if they're a US exclusive thing ( although Obviously the 100th store stuff would be) or an event exclusive thing or not, haven't seen them mentioned in relation to the UKGWs other than the Warhammer World exclusive pins.

Centurius was (IIRC) for the hundredth store worldwide. If there was another hundredth store celebration more recently, it must have been a specific country.
Hopefully arranging last minute Looting of three more Lieutenants.

My two chaplains are in there! Squee! Only normal marine I’ll ever buy probably. Planning to do a diorama featuring him and the infernal trifecta (heretic, alien, mutant) facing off.

They’re probably already packed, just waiting for me to haul my fat bum to the post office :p
Guarantee delivery before Christmas, likely before November :p

Rebranding is when a Games Workshop store becomes a Warhammer Store. Or when a brand new Warhammer Store opens.
This time was speshul though. Previously, you could just buy the Terminator Captain on the day. £15 a chuck. But the Chaplain required a collector’s card to be completed, totalling £100. You then got the chance to buy one per completed card. For £15 quid. But here, it was ‘as many as you want’.

The 500th badges and AFAIK all the other badges are released worldwide, some badges are only available at GW events or for taking part in certain AOS/40K campaigns in store and the rest are normally given out free with web purchases when certain new minis/factions/games come out, the 500th badge was given away along with a postcard set and a AOS/40K battle plan with purchases of £50.
The Inquisition badge is from a set of 3 and the badge set also came with 3 postcards and pos given out originally about a year ago IIRC, GW have been given out badges since the 80s, ive got a few badges and always looking for more!
1:Black Library Weekender 2017
2:Black Library Day Eisenhorn & Fulgrim
3:30th Anniversary of Space Marines
4:TBH i can not remember which event at mo :/
5:Fate of Konor Loebos store campaign
6:New store opening and store re-branding
The other 100th store mini was for the 100th US store opening, it was a re-imaging of Captain Centos and only available in the US.
I have to admit that I am rather disappointed the nighthaunt mini is just a standard unit model, despite being named. Wish it had been a proper character with a distinguishing ability...
Wallet drain: The Nighthaunt can only be deployed by draining an excessive amount of money from your bank account.
Disappointment: When deployed, the Nighthaunt will cast disappointment on the owning player when they realise that it doesn't do anything different from the other floaty ghosts.
I don’t think my store was even running with the goodies(except for the badge). The manager is usually pretty good at getting me to spend what it takes to get them all and he never mentioned it. It sounds like the central Manchester store was doing it though.
I've seen a lot of posts on facebook saying the minis manufacturing is delayed as the demand is too high, a few suggesting they're aiming for 1st Dec now according to store manager(s)
not sure if that's to actually get them in or for the manufacturing to start though
I was told that they are waiting for them to be made. There little or none to be sent out after the fact and instead of just needing a few more here and there they need a whole new production run.
Finally got my prints, nice and big ones at that. Not sure if this is just the Amersfoort store or if all Dutch GW stores had this problem, but UPS lost the shipment so GW had to do another run of things to get it sorted out, thus taking more time to get it to people over here.
I was told my local store that they SHOULD be arriving in stores this week, but they hadn't received an official word as yet. Beginning to feel like paying for a kickstarter at this point.
Well, apparently the demand drastically outweighed supply. Hopefully a lesson was learned here. I have been waiting on mine as well. I got it at a store four hours from home.

They'll have it sorted out next 500th store celebration.
