So full information has been released about Y4S1 map and the operators, Mozzie & Gridlock.

I have to say, I'm really liking the look of both the new operators. In fact, it may be the most interested I've been in new operators since Hibana & Echo. The map also looks quite cool as well.

The road map for the year has also been released, with some interesting points. For starters, there will only be one new map this year but also, pick and ban will be added to ranked play.

What are everyone's thoughts about the reveal, or Rainbow Six: Siege in general?

Interesting to see which US faction will be added this time around, we clearly need more of them..! A small majority of YouTube comments is pissed that Turkey isn't added.

Saw the full unveil and names of the new operators and groaned a bit when I saw that they decided to give Mozzie the surname Goose.

Speaking of Hibana..

Also, they're doing shorts now, hopefully this'll be a regular thing:

I guess America has the most recognisable intelligence services/armed forces which is why there are so many in Siege, but I agree, there are already plenty of American operators.Being from the UK, I'd like to see MI6 added. They could play into the James Bond stereotype and have silenced Walthers PPs and an exploding watch or something

I really like the look of Hibana's new elite set. I'm still waiting for a Lesion one as well, but I might be waiting some time

Post by: BrookM

MI6 may be straying a bit too far into the soft sci-fi setting with that stuff. I mean sure, the game is about gadgets and stuff grabbed from the near future, but I think Tom never did like James Bond much.

I've got a feeling that Lesion is still some time off, as they're doing year zero and year one operators first, though chances are Tachanka won't get an elite skin until they finally get around to reworking him. Which may be some time yet, as Ubi sees the rework of Lion as a higher priority.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2019/02/18 17:55:35

Post by: pix3lboy

True, although one can dream.

I dont understand the priorities of some of the operator reworks. Cav has been OP pretty much since release and only just got nerfed. Monty is still OP and Tachanka is still near useless but Lion and Clash are the two that seem to be getting tweaked next...

Lion is still horribly broken. I can't find a most recent pick rate chart, but chances are both Lion and Ash are still the highest picks on Attack. Ash is getting a nerf with the removal of her ACOG from what I've heard, whereas Lion's gadget may need an overhaul or two as it was originally meant for just Operation Chimera and not the main game. Dokaebi is also getting a nerf of sorts, as her calls now only last twenty seconds and will then cut off on their own instead of keeping the phone buzzing.

ASH
Removed ACOG from R4-C

LESION
Reducing Gu Mine damage per tick from 8 to 4

MAVERICK
Increase swap time between SURI Torch and weapons

DOKKAEBI
After 18 seconds, phone calls from Dokkaebi will hang up on their own
Being in range of Mute jammers will prevent Dokkaebi from calling you
Walking into range of Mute jammers will hang up phone calls during the call

CAPITAO
Increasing area of effect size
Reducing damage per tick from 19 to 12

CLASH
Removing Muzzle Brake on Machine Pistol

Interesting changes. I'm glad to see Mav is getting a slight nerf although I'm not sure about Lesion. Gu feels pretty underpowered already

The sad part is that Lion's gadget didn't actually work well in Chimera--and that they ditched the game mode ASAP. It was actually "working as intended" for the main game...but they significantly and continually underestimate how quickly matches will end or be decided.

Some rumours on the next season's operators has surfaced:

First detailed via Ubisoft's Year 4 content roadmap, 2019's second season will bring new playable Danish and U.S. Operators, alongside a rework of existing map Kafe Dostoyevsky. Paired with a tease of future recruits in promotional assets, work is openly underway on what lies ahead. Further alleged details on the game's next Operators has now hit ResetEra (via coreross) from reputable leakster "Kormora," previously exposing Burnt Horizon's offerings ahead of reveal.

According to sources familiar with Rainbow Six development, the new Danish attacker will be invisible to cameras, paired with a stealth ability inspired by Caveira's "Silent Step." The Operator premise aligns with previous teasers, detailing an "expert in covert reconnaissance and stealth tactics" and "ability to blend and adapt into an environment." Such an ability appears to blend the skills of Caveira and Vigil.

Defenders will reportedly receive a new Secret Service Operator, equipped with "special eyesight" bypassing flash and smoke grenades. It's unclear how such an ability would be implemented, though a recent adjustment to Glaz's thermal scope paves the way for an agile anti-smoke role.
Grain of salt as with all rumours, though it can never be as bad as the Operation Chimera operators are.

UPCOMING CHANGES
LION
Replaced the scan outline by a red ping debuff
Reduced the ability warning from 3 to 1.5 seconds
Reduced the scanning from 4 to 2 seconds
Reduced the ability cool-down from 27 to 15 seconds
Increased the number of charges from 2 to 3
The Lion rework is ready. This change is aimed at reducing the oppressive feeling of his ability while maintaining his intel-gathering role. Following the changes introduced, we expect players to put more thought before using this ability and require more skill to be advantageous for the attacking team.

By switching from a scan outline to a ping debuff (like Alibi's), the effectiveness of the enemy detection will be diminished. Now, moving defenders can be detected up to three times, with 1 second between pings. Lion's scan will be more viable and will allow defenders to counter-play successful Lion detections.

The total duration of Lion's ability is shorter for both the warning and the scanning phases. The scan will last a total of 3.5 seconds (from 7 seconds).

To balance things, we have increased the number of uses to 3 and also reduced the ability cool-down.

CAPITÃO
Reducing damage per tick from 19 to 12
Size of the area of effect increased
The area takes 2 seconds to reach its maximum size
The arrows follow a straight trajectory until 10 meters. After that, they will start to fall due to gravity.
We want to shift Capitao back to his original intention, which is that of an area denial Operator. This is possible by making further iterations on an improved propagation system that will make the area of effect no longer go through objects.

Additionally, based on feedback from the initial Test Server phase, we have adjusted the amount of time it takes to expand to the full area of effect. This will allow players time to react to the deployment of his Asphyxiating bolts.

NOMAD
Added an idle sound cue to activated Airjabs.
Stun grenades replace her Claymore.
In response to feedback about Airjabs being too difficult to counter, we added an idle sound following the gadget deployment. Our goal is to reward cautious players to spot nearby Airjabs and to adapt appropriately.

Thanks to her Airjabs, Nomad already had three gadgets designed to counter flanking by the defending team. That is why we decided to give her stun grenades instead.

YING
In order to make Ying’s Candelas more intuitive and simple, we have inverted the cooking mechanic.
Just like frag grenades, the longer you cook them, the earlier they will explode. This change should also drive Ying players to put more effort into planning their attacks and to reduce Candela’s spamming.

KAID
We have reduced the TCSG12 total ammunition to 51 (from 61).
The AUG-A3 damage is increased to 33 (from 27).
By reducing the amount of slugs, we want players to choose between destroying soft walls to prepare their defence and using the weapon to repel attackers.

Increasing the damage of the AUG-A3 should make it a more viable choice for Kaid mains.

MAESTRO
To reduce the effectiveness of his Evil eyes, its bulletproof windows will now be half-way opened when affected EMPs or Shock Drones.
By allowing Thatcher or Twitch to have an effect on Evil Eyes, we want teams to rely a little less on soft destruction operators. Maestro mains will also have to be slightly more cautious when placing their gadgets.

BLITZ
To reduce the frustration generated by this operator, the ballistic shield flash cool-down has been increased (from 2 to 7 seconds.)
We are looking into reducing the amount of frustration generated by Blitz, without hampering his ability to rush the objective. Increasing the cool-down of his shield flash should give more leeway to defenders to adapt and counter the operator.

ECHO
IQ can now detect Echo when he is using his PDA.
For consistency, IQ will now detect Echo when he is using his PDA.

CURRENT STATUS
DOC AND ROOK
Following the MP5 damage decrease (patch Y3S4.2), we have seen a slight reduction in Doc and Rook pick rates as well as in their win ratios. They both remain two very solid anchors who are now closer the overall pool of defenders in terms of statistics.

ASH
The removal of Ash's ACOG removal with Burnt Horizon was an attempt to reduce her pick rate. We removed a popular attachment that was unnecessary to her role as an opener. Following an impressive drop of 20% in her pick rate, she remains a very popular attacker and her win ratio has even improved.

Post by: Melissia

I find it absolutely hilarious that Ash losing the ACOG made her winrate improve.

Then again, I hate ACOGs, even for DMR style weapons.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2019/04/15 14:51:48

Post by: BrookM

Chris has voiced his thoughts on the recent notes, as well as a good reasoning behind why Ash has a better win ratio now.

Next up.. whenever that may be.. Tachanka overhaul then?

Unless the next season is going to be as broken as Operation Chimera.

I'm surprised they haven't done a Jager overhaul yet, honestly. Though I don't play vs multi as much as I play Terrorist Hunt, I see Jager more than anyone else when I do.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2019/04/15 21:37:10

Post by: BrookM

IIRC Jaeger losing his ACOG was the biggest change they made to him, mainly to prevent him from spawn peeking so much. Doesn't stop other 3 armour defenders from doing it as they still have access to ACOG's, but his gun is the best for it.

It'll be interesting to see what else they could change about him, but he's a popular roaming pick, as he quickly deploys his gadgets, drops barbed wire and is good to go on the roam before the timer runs out. Being the only (IIRC) defender with access to an assault rifle with good damage also helps out immensely.

He's pretty much in the same spot as Ash, calling certain players an "Ash - Jaeger main" in ranked isn't that uncommon, as both have a lot in common, aside from the lack of a head hit box for Ash.

Most operators are in a good spot though, especially now that Lion's global ability has been overhauled. Certainly took them long enough.

Some rumours are starting to surface on the upcoming Danish and US operators - https://www.pcgamer.com/rainbow-six-siege-year-4-season-2/

The Attacker will a female operator named "Nökk" from the elite Danish Frogman Corps:

The Operator is pitched as an "expert in covert reconnaissance and stealth tactics" with the "ability to blend and adapt into an environment." She's framed as a "calculative" Operator with ties to Operation White Noise's Vigil, famed by his anti-drone gadget. As showcased above, we may have unknowingly seen teaser art for this Operator earlier in 2019 too, during an interview with Ubisoft narrative director, Emmanuel Bajolle.

The teasers also back recent leaks from ResetEra leakster "Kormora," claiming the Operator will be named "Nökk," while affirming ties to the Frogman Corps. Their accompanying ability will supposedly make them invisible to cameras, paired with a stealth ability similar to Caveira's "Silent Step." We're also hearing Nökk may be "extremely cute" and "a new fan favorite," although it's unclear how this ties to the Frogman theme. With a proven track record after Operation Burnt Horizon, these are all plausible traits of the hero.

The Defender is "Warden" from the US Secret Service:

Details on the new U.S. Secret Service Operator remain considerably scarce, with no apparent official teasers from Ubisoft so far. However, the ResetEra leak provided a potential insight into plans for "Warden," referencing a "special eyesight" bypassing flash and smoke grenades. It's unclear how such an ability would be implemented, potentially sharing similarities to Jackal's tracking visor. Warden supposedly looks "exactly as you'd imagine for Secret Service," with a suit, tie, and kevlar vest.

Also some hints are dropped for the third season..

Kormora’s source also shared a brief teaser for the Season 3 attacker, saying that defenders “will now have a good reason to reinforce hatches on the same floor as them.” This is consistent with how the attacker has been described to me. I’m told they carry a grapple hook that lets them quickly climb up through hatches or rappel up to windows. Sounds terrifying and fun.

Grain of salt as always obv.

Bandit elite skin has gone live either today or earlier this week, I'm sure Ubs will do an official release video later today or tomorrow:

Spoiler:

Not my cuppa, but still a nice design, especially the tattoo starting at the hands and ending up at the chest. Or vise versa, whatever.

Not a fan of the weapon skins, but the MVP animation is pretty boss, with him revving his bike and then casually flicking on some shades.

With this, GSG9 is the second faction to get a full elite skin roster, the first being the Navy SEALS with their Vietnam themed skins.

Place bets which year zero team will fill out its roster next! FBI, SAS or GIGN? Spetznaz isn't going to happen any time soon, they need to redo { -- } first.

New season name has also been dropped: OPERATION PHANTOM SIGHT

Her article: https://rainbow6.ubisoft.com/siege/en-gb/news/detail.aspx?c=tcm:154-349210-16&ct=tcm:150-76770-32

Nøkk has been a mystery for quite some time. There is very little that anyone outside Rainbow knows about her. For an accomplished undercover agent whose work remains mostly unrecorded, it is amazing that she has managed to hold onto who she is at her core.

Focused and driven, she uses her special operations training to infiltrate, gather intel and defeat her opponents. As a member of the Jægerkorpset, she strikes fear into the hearts of anyone who goes up against her.

On top of that, she harnesses a spirit of loyalty and leads by example to elevate the people she works with. Unlike the general population, her fellow Operators know who she is and welcome her into the fold. The potential scandal her family might face is of little importance to them; she’s one of the best in her field, and they wouldn’t betray her even if it came to that.

Her gadget is just the icing on the cake for an already dangerous operative. The HEL, which she worked on to improve with specialist Grace “Dokkaebi” Nam, makes Nøkk nothing short of a ghost, and leaves her opponents looking over their shoulders.

Full reveal on the 19th, excited!

edit.

Pretty neat, Nøkk is the Danish word for a shapeshifting water spirit.

Also, Korean Batman will soon be getting help from Danish Batgirl?

More info has been dropped, including a look at the new operator screen, which will alongside equipment and speed / armour also display operator difficulty. This may still be changed, but from the look of things, no new weapons this season.

Nøkk (2 speed, 2 armour, 3 difficulty): FMG-9 or Six12 SD as primaries, 5.7 USG or D-50 as secondaries, claymore or breaching charge as gadgets. Her "HEL Presence Reduction" is a combination of Vigil's jammer and Cav's silent step, removing her presence from surveillance equipment and reducing her noise.

Warden (1 speed, 3 armour, 2 difficulty): MPX or M590A1 shotgun as primaries, P-10C or SMG-12 as secondaries, barbed wire or deployable shield as gadgets. His "Glance Smart Glasses" can look through smoke when standing still.

I quitted the game a while ago but still follow it since acquaintances of mine play it still, and I not that happy with the operators release, their abilities feel bizarre and over tye top to me.

Though I wish they would add in the Commandos Marine or the 1rst RPIMA, they deserve being in that game. Or maybe the CRAJ. France has so many elite forces that'd be worth adding besides GIGN.

Over the past few days, we have been working to address the issues presented from exploits surrounding Clash, IQ, and Deployable Shields. We are currently working on fixes. These combined issues touch on core systems of the game, and will therefore take longer than we consider acceptable to address. We are currently expecting fixes prepared by next week.

With this in mind, we will first be deploying a server side update tonight to disable Clash, and tomorrow we will have an update to disable Deployable Shields and Claymores.

CLASH
Clash removed from the Operator Selection screen

DEPLOYABLE SHIELDS
Ammunition count set to 0

CLAYMORES
Ammunition count set to 0

This has also highlighted the importance of reactivity on our part, and the need to act more quickly on issues of this magnitude. As such, our team will develop a more thorough outline for how we should respond to these situations moving forward, with the ultimate goal of improved reaction speed.

We will provide an update on Tuesday, May 21st.
Woah..

Nøkk and Warden aren't in the game just yet. One month or so still to go IIRC, but if you've got a season pass you get early access on both the TTS and actual servers.

Though if you don't have a season pass, now's a good time to start grinding that renown in advance so you can unlock her when she drops.

Phew, the new season looks interesting if nothing else. And all these disablings of gadgets and Clash is a thing, too. I am quite alooking forward to that, with the exception of pick and ban. I tried it out in February (I believe it was Feb, might've also been January. Whatever). The new proposed ranked feels just... boring. Pick and ban is in a non-organized setting the most boring and often predictable thing ever and only bomb is also uninspired. I mean, yes, bomb is without a doubt THE most balanced game mode, but I like some secure area or hostage from time to time.
Ah well, looks like I am going to stay a casual hero^^

The disabling of gadgets and Clash is a temporary measure, but I'm glad to see them act sooner rather than later this time around. *cough* Christmas bonus packs *cough* I'm just glad they didn't disable IQ, my personal favourite.

Pick and ban may see some change in picks now that Lion has been reworked (not to mention mom also having her spam dialling nerfed, thus removing a lot of bite from a hated attacker combo), which may lead to hard breachers being banned more often, making the most common strats people use with bomb scenarios harder or impossible to pull off.

But then again, I'm a scrubby goober when it comes to this game.

Mostly looking forward to the muzzle brake on the DE50. I like Valkyrie a lot, but hate the DEagle as it is right now, so something to control that kicking mule would be most welcome.

I think with the fixes right now they'd rather get it right then try and rush it under a self imposed deadline.

As a part of promoting the upcoming season Ubisoft flew in several content creators and had them both play around with the new operators on the revamped Kafe, and play three games of super-sweaty Siege. Here's the stuff from Varsity's POV and it's an entertaining watch, a nice departure from his usual games of Copper to Diamond or him playing with his friends. It's awesome to see ten good players go head to head and show off their skills.

Also, a lot of gadgets have been switched around amongst operators.

From what I've seen so far, the shield is quirky, but the hook may actually allow for some awesome quick plant strats, though it is quite noisy. The animation for zipping up and into a window or open hatch is ace.

Having a lot of fun with this. Even though my reflexes have aged out of playing at the high end, the strategy and tactics you can use to mitigate poorer aim have me staying.

Toxicity is a big problem though, but they just started testing new reporting systems in the test servers yesterday, so it means they're putting more effort into cracking down on that.

Not mentioned is that deployable shields now also have little windows in them, allowing you to see through to the other side, not sure if it's one way glass.

If anyone wants a mature teammate, DM me to setup some games.

Heh, US servers are nowhere near as toxic as the EU servers, which are 50% BLYAAAAAAAT (and a very noisy room full of people shouting every time the mic is switched on), 50% other languages I cannot understand but are always very irate, 110% toxic.

Shields have one-way mirrors, just like Mira's gadget.

Going to try and see if I got enough space to get Toxic Triehard Servers installed again, curious to see how both gadgets work out for me.

I like the changes to Terrorist Hunt, but I don't like the reason WHY they made the changes. TH shouldn't be about being "close to multiplayer", cause it never will be anyway. It should be its own experience.

Frankly, T. Hunt was always just tedious.

Anything that improves the experience is fantastic. Shame that it never actually is as rewarding as playing MP.

Honestly? I find it less "tedious" than multiplayer, because getting four friends together to team up with is a hassle, and randoms are often dumb, useless, or worse.

That's the tedious I'm referring to.

There was a time where it wasn't patently difficult to run anything above "Casual" solo, but they nixed that fairly early on.

Really?

We're able to do above casual pretty regularly with just two or three people on the team (no randoms), and we're hardly very good at the game.

Numbers make a huge difference in T. Hunt when you're playing the Defend stuff.

The kamikazes going away is gonna make a big difference.

Removal of the bombers should make bomb defusing on T Hunt somewhat easier, as I hate the terrorist rush that spawns the moment you plant.

But defender scenarios are decent enough, removal of the bomber there will make the final wave, depending on how well you did during the first three waves, all the easier, as the enemy loses out on both an annoying armoured asset and one extra exo-thermic to blow walls with.

Gave both operators a few quick rounds on good old toxic test and I quite like Goyo's gadget, the reworked shields as well are simply amazing, with the option to clip them into doorways. The new vision slits have not come in handy yet, but we'll see. Amaru takes some getting used to, as the moment you crash through a window and whip out your weapon is quite long right now. Also not that fond of either of her secondaries, ITA12S is more a tool for breaking things and the SMG-11 is just plain horrible.

Y'know, the ONE change I am looking forward to the most for me is without a doubt the additional 10 shots in Twitchs and Lions DMR rifle. Finally, I say!
But, beside my absurd love for single-shot weapons, I am quite looking forward to this season. New Ops look amazing and super fun, Op changes look also real fun (Dokk with nades I am looking forward the most!). T-Hunt changes are fine, I mostly play that before some mulitplayer action with friends to get the challenges out of the way, so yeah, I really don't care that much.

Reactions on the upcoming season so far have been nothing but favourable and good. Unlike previous season, the new ops are looking to actually make a good impact on gameplay by actually keeping things fresh and the rework of Kanal is much lauded as how a rework should be done, looking at you Hereford.

Having played some more with both new ops on TS, I love Goyo. This may be due to him having an acog despite not being a three armour, which may be a sign of things to come, or he may get it taken away at a later point, but still good fun. I need more time with Amaru. Her gadget is good fun, it's her loadout I can't get used to. I am missing a good secondary, as I'm not fond of SMG's and the shorty isn't to my liking either.

Now we wait for the first Easter eggs of the final season to drop.

Next season name has been unveiled: Operation Shifting Tides.

Reputable leaks already outline a promising duo on the horizon, fulfilling two highly-requested roles across the roster. An alleged Indian attacker will provide a new Thatcher alternative, equipped with anti-gadget launcher comparable to the handheld EMPs. The Operator will also reportedly debut the game's first bolt-action rifle, forging the second sniper role on offense.

Defenders will reportedly secure competition for Jager via an alternate anti-projectile deployable for the Kenyan Operator. Leaks detail a device that can capture and detonate projectiles, differentiating from the hard-counter offered by Jager.

Rainbow Six Siege Operation Shifting Tides is set for a November 10 unveiling alongside the Rainbow Six Pro League Finals in Tokoname, Japan.
Should be good, Chris from Varsity Gaming is invited to check it out in Japan this week.

edit.

Season 4 may experiment with wider-reaching Operator changes, shaking up existing loadouts. A secondary alarm gadget is supposedly in the works (likely the previously-teased proximity alarm) alongside a "small thermite charge for attackers." The device appears to grant secondary hard-breaching utility to existing loadouts, providing an alternative beyond the classic Thermite, Hibana, and Maverick trio. Tachanka's long-awaited rework may lie on the horizon, while Finka transitions into a refined medic role too.

The source finally throws around upcoming Year 5 concepts, promising "interesting" Operator gadgets throughout 2020. Referring to the infamous "commercials with the Kool-Aid man," a forthcoming Operator may pack capability to burst open destructible walls. Talk of a "medic drone operator" and "akimbo dude" are also pitched, as Ubisoft attempts to lock in plans for the coming year. However, ongoing engine struggles appear to bottleneck Operator ideas.

"Lots of stuff got shelved over the years over engine issues and impracticability, for example we had a shield with a stun in mind that would throw back people but with the way shields are we felt it was wise to not pursue it atm. Flamethrowers, light beams, and other wilder ideas are held back by the engine for now..."

Kali (attacker, 2 speed, 2 armour) has the CSRX 300 (bolt action rifle with variable levels of zoom), P226 and C75 as secondaries, claymore and ?? as deployables.

Wamai (defender 2 speed, 2 armour) has the AUG A2 (IQ's AR) and MP5K as primaries, P12 and Keratos .357 as secondaries, shield and barbed wire as deployables.

Some of the TTS patch note highlights:

707

#BOSGACOGNATION

ACOG added to BOSG

Caveira

The M-12 is currently one of the lowest damage and slowest firing SMGs in the game. With most players favoring the Luison, there is currently very little reason to select the M-12 and we’re looking to give players more of a reason to pick up her M-12.

M-12 SMG damage increased to 40 (from 36)

Ela

We’ve seen that Ela’s FO-12 is very strong (especially on console), resulting in excessively high ban rates compared to other defenders. We’re making her FO-12 recoil system more in line with other semi-automatic shotguns to bump down her power a bit.

Decreased falloff damage curve. Damage remains the same up until 6M but decays more rapidly to make it less effect from more than 10M.

Increased spread and lower accuracy. The FO-12 now has additional spread when shooting quickly, making it more consistent with other Semi-Automatic shotguns.

Slightly increased recoil and kick to make it less easy to control and less spray and pray.

SASG-12

Similar to the above FO-12 changes, the SASG-12 now also has additional spread when shooting quickly, as well as an additional extra recoil and kick to make them a bit less easy to control.

Glaz

Giving our Russian sniper a bit more love to help him spot enemies even when the scope is not charged.

Tweaked yellow highlight curve of the scope to increase the intensity when the scope is not charged.

Kaid

We’re amping up Kaid a bit and getting his juices flowing by giving him a bit more flexibility and creativity with his setups.

Increased Electroclaw’s radius to 1.3 M (up from 0.75 M)

Replaced Impact Grenades with Barbed Wire

Warden

We want to increase his potential as a denial Defender for defuser plays, and the C4 should give him more agency to make plays without exposing himself too much when an attacker is defusing.

Replaced Barbed Wire with C4

And from the main patch notes:

Limb penetration!

Hold onto your hats, limb penetration is a thing! Have you ever flashed someone with a stun grenade and been denied a headshot because of the hand covering their eyes? Then this section is for you.

This season is the perfect moment to rework penetration, with Kali’s sniper rifle being one of the most intimidating weapons in-game. Weapon category has a part to play, but first let’s go into the three different types of penetration.

The first, we’ll call “none”. Simply put, any shot with these weapons does not go through limbs, or torsos, or anything else. The weapons concerned here are most shotguns, and secondary SMGs.

The second, or “simple”, is reserved for one target only. Bullets from these weapons will go through arms and legs to hit more valuable body parts. Face to face with an opponent and shoot through their arms? If you’re lined up with the head, it should be a headshot. The weapons include main SMGs, assault rifles, pistols and LMGs.

The third, dubbed “full”, is the most you could hope for. Shots from these bad boys will go through an Operator and hit other Operators behind them for 30% reduced damage for each additional penetration. Pull out your BOSG.12.2, TSCG12 and sniper rifles, and see if you can take down more than one opponent at once!

One detail to keep in mind with all this: now that most bullets go through arms and hands, the damage received if a shot hits only those areas (without penetration) is reduced to 75%, the same as leg shots. For Operators with 3 Armor, however, damage is reduced to 65%.

And Rappel exit:

From the very beginning, rappelling has been quite consistent. There was a prompt to enter rappel, but exiting it was automatic. From now on, however, that will no longer be the case. A similar prompt will come up when you’re able to exit rappel, and all you have to do is press that key if that’s what you want. With this small modification, players will be able to avoid exiting rappel when they’re just trying to stay as close to its edge as possible, giving you more power over your tactical decisions.

Year 5 season 1 weapons have been "leaked" or rather, found in TTS, I'll spare you all the clickbait video and outright state that there will be no new guns, they are again re-using guns already in the game. Primaries are:

- G36C (Ash)
- ARX200 (Nomad)
- MP5 (Doc and Rook)
- SPAS-12 (Valkyrie)

And the sidearms:

- USP40 (Jackal and Mira)
- MK1 9mm (Buck and Frost)
- Bailiff 410 (Alibi and Maestro)

It'll be interesting to see what countries will be added next year, some have speculated that Greece and Israel will be joining the roster.

Kinda glad they're reusing guns, makes it easier to balance and they can go a little wilder on abilities. Another reason is that it's clear they have a big tech debt in the game, so the less time spent making new guns the more time can be spent fixing stuff.

That said, I hope one of the new ops shares some utility that IQ has to help counter Echo drones. Much like how Kali has some of the gadget blasting ability of Thatcher.

Tachanka rework is most likely also happening this year, with rumours hinting towards ditching the machine gun in favour of a new gadget, due to how much the meta has moved on since the original release aeons ago.

Oryx is from Jordan, can smash walls at a small cost in HP and can CLIMB UP THROUGH MOST OPEN HATCHES (not counting roof hatches), making him an awesome roamer.

Iana is from the Netherlands(!) and can create a holographic copy of herself with which she can move about on the map, she can't damage the enemy, but she can scout things out and find traps, without triggering them. Destroying her hologram will not permanently disable it, it's on a cooldown like a lot of other gadgets.

Also a quick look at the reworked Oregon map.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2020/02/15 17:18:17

Post by: Lum

Oryx looks bloody amazing. Really looking forward to him. I wonder what secondary gadgets he's gonna have.
Iana is interesting as well, yet I guess she will be more like a gloryfied drone, at least on PC. Still, having the ability to drone theoretically as much as you want is quite cool!
Oh, and finally better barricade destruction. This is one of the most infuriating bits in Siege for me. Just yesterday that got me killed: punched a barricade, could not see in as the parts were stuck. Punched again, now all 4 parts were stuck and I still couldn't see. Just as I wanted to punch it again, headshot by a defender. So yeah, really looking forward to that!

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2020/02/15 17:38:23

Post by: BrookM

The barricade destruction may (finally) be the first proper step towards the much requested server-side debris people have been clamouring for since the start of the game really. If that's worked out they can move on to flashbangs, smoke grenades, Smoke's grenades and candela effects as well.

Oryx has barbed wire and bulletproof camera as his gadgets, Iana has frags and what looks like smokes. Oryx has access to the MP5 though, one of the best SMG's currently in the game. Iana's weapons are a bit odd, I'd expect her to have Jackal's assault rifle, which is modelled after the actual service rifle used by the Dutch military, but the ARX200 isn't a bad gun either.

TACHANKA REWORK - His LMG is no longer mounted, comes with a handy reflex sight and can make holes big enough to create quick rotate holes. He also gets a bolt action rifle that shoots incendiary grenades a-la Capitao, but these can bounce before detonating.

Also a massive overhaul on House, with less chance of getting spawn peeked.

Reworked ping system where you can ping individual gadgets.

New defender gadget: proximity alarm.

Replay mode, where you can view played matches from multiple angles and whatnot, this is very welcome as it will hopefully hatefeth cheaters and toxic players into being banned a lot faster now.

Patch notes: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/game/rainbow-six/siege/game-info/seasons/voidedge

Some of the highlights are..

Lesion and Twitch changes:

Lesion was in need of some balancing, and with Operation Void Edge he gets just that. He will no longer be able to see his GU Mines through obstructions of any kind, or from a certain distance. Most importantly, though, when an opposing Operator steps on a GU, there will no longer be any initial damage, giving them time to take it out before it becomes a problem. However, we have increased each tick’s damage from 4 to 6. Finally, downed operators will not take any damage anymore from Gu Mines, triggering them to no effect.

Twitch is also getting some changes. Her Shock Drone will now start with three shots, but it will have a cooldown system similar to Echo’s Yokai drone. Its firing power has also been reduced to 1 point of damage. All this serves to turn Twitch’s focus to Defenders’ utility, while keeping her drone relevant over the duration of the round.

And operator changes:

RECRUIT REWORK
To improve the Rainbow Six Siege onboarding experience, we’re re-assigning Recruit on a mission to lead and guide our new players. In Y5S1, recruit will have pre-set loadouts for ATT and DEF instead of CTU based loadouts. This will help ease the learning process and make recruit an ideal pick for new players familiarizing themselves with Siege.

CASTLE
Removed M45 secondary weapon and replaced with Super Shorty

FROST
Holographic scope added to Frost’s C1

GOYO
Falling onto Goyo’s Volcan only causes it collapse, instead of explode and propagate fire.

IQ
When objectives such as Bombs or Biohazard containers are still hidden during the action phase, if IQ detects them with her gadget she will reveal their location to her entire team.

LESION
Gu mines visible to Lesion only when in direct LOS and within an 8 meter distance.
Removal of initial Gu mine damage tick.
Gu mine damage increased to 6 damage per tick (instead of 4).
DBNO players now immune to GU Mines. Being DBNO will still trigger them but the GU mines effect will not apply.

TWITCH
Twitch Drone: Twitch’s drone will now use a charge system similar to Yokai drones instead of a set ammo count. Drones will start with the maximum ammo count of 3 shots and it will take 30 seconds to recharge a new shot.
Drone will start a round with 3 shots (instead of 5)
It takes 30s to fully recharge a shot, with a maximum carrying capacity of 3 shots per drone.
Drone shot cooldown reduced to 1s (from 2s)
Drone taser damage reduced to 1 hp (down from 10). Evil Eyes and Jager’s ADS gadget health also reduced to 1 hp.
Increased recoil for Twitch’s F2

WARDEN
Warden’s Smart Glasses will now run on a charge system and can be activated long as there is more than 20% left of his charge left. Activation lasts 10 seconds and needs 10 seconds for a full recharge.

Cooldown removed on Warden’s use of his gadget.
Warden can now control usage time and deactivate it manually, with a maximum activation time of 10 seconds.
His ability recharges at the same speed than it depletes. When fully depleted, it takes 10 seconds for it to be completely recharged

DMRS
Increased destruction for DMRs for faster destruction of barricades, hatches, and soft surfaces.

VECTOR .45
Vector damage increased to 23 (from 21)

LOADOUT CHANGES
Dokkaebi: Stun Grenades replacing Frag. Grenades
Maverick: Frag Grenades replacing Stun Grenades
Nokk: Frag Grenades replacing Claymore
Ying: Frag Grenades replacing Claymore
Compensator removed from DMRs

New season name has been dropped: Operation Steel Wave.

The upcoming South African defender allegedly sports the internal codename "Slowpoke," with a gadget to slow players, like barbed wire, while also capable of marking enemy gadgets through cameras. ResetEra user Kormora, famed for past leaks, also discusses a "pyramid device for the defender that slows you down when it sees you." Ubisoft-hosted files on the Rainbow Six website also suggest this slowing gadget will be named the "Banshee."

Her rumored offensive partner has fewer surrounding details, potentially fulfilling a new breaching role. Rainbow Six Siege website files indicate he introduces the "S.E.L.M.A. launcher," favoring breaching utility over pure fragging power. The aforementioned Kormora suggests this will be a new hard breacher, although it's unclear how Ubisoft will differentiate him from the trusty trio of Thermite, Hibana, and Maverick.

We also receive new details on loadouts for both Operators, once again recycling existing firearms from the roster. The defender allegedly wields the T-5 SMG formerly used by Lesion, accompanied by the Super 90 shotgun used by Frost. The breacher may repurpose the AK-12 or Commando 552, although still undecided by Ubisoft, with the M1014 as a close-quarters backup.

Which is the point.

But the season is still young and it wouldn't surprise me if they receive a tweak or two during the Toxic Try-hard Server period before seeing a general release. Plus, once players have messed around with it we'll find out soon enough whether or not it's worth taking as area denial. Her gadget looks great, her primaries are decent-ish, but her sidearm makes up for it.

Biggest complaint right now is that people are saying both SAT operators have been made obsolete by these new operators as hard breacher / area denial respectively. Though Echo does have the second-highest ban rate on defence, so.. why an Echo elite Ubi? All we need now is a Jackal elite to really rub it in.

Where my Zofia elite though? Breakdancing Dokki is next.

Eh, if Echo gets nerfed enough that people stop banning him, you might be able to use that skin.

As for Ace, I fully expect him to get a lot of specific nerfs that make his gadget more situational. Because the AK-12 with an easy to use ranged hard breach gadget is just too much.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2020/05/20 13:35:48

Post by: BrookM

I feel Ace needs a nerf just because he looks like a douchebag.

But worst case scenario they may remove one of his three special breaching charges. AK12 does come with NATO optics, which depending on who you ask, can be a downgrade as the Russian ACOG is easier to use, but YMMV.

I think both Echo and Jackal are at a point where any further nerfing would turn them into the next Blackbeard.

Designer notes are also out: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/rainbow-six/siege/news-updates/5uO2YSAhA1TzWclMco3A13/y5s2-preseason-designers-notes

Includes a list of who will be getting the new proximity sensor.

Also, ACS12 a.k.a. the AA12 used by our Alphabetti Spaghetti operators is getting a massive boost:

Switch ACS12 ammo from shells to slugs.
Increased damage to 41 (from 27).
Damage drop off distance set to 18 m.

Other noteworthy stuff:

Added PRB92 to Nomad's loadout (Capitão's pistol).
Added LFP586 to Kaid (GIGN revolver).

This I like, because I am horrible with scopes and whilst the Automag is a beast, I had a hard time with it. Yeah, I suck big time.

edit.

Just now noticed that Ubi has been removing Maestro's cigar from all their art, pity, as he's not the same troll without one.

Yeah, gotten a few tower kills with the grappling hook on Oregon. Goomba stomped a many a Vigil trying to hide up there. I think the change is great just to increase breaching and surprise options for some maps.

Defender's motion sensors are a much stronger gadget choice.

However, defenders definitely are in a tougher spot with these latest operators and changes.

Having just watched Varsity's video on the buffed Amaru, it's amazing how much of an impact a pair of small changes can make to the meta.

I don't think they will roll back the barricade break with Amaru. - Chalet rework
- Sam Fisher joins Attackers
- Reworked ping system

- Defenders now have a shared pool of reinforcements (10 regardless of how many players are on the team)
- New hard breaching gadget for attackers
- Reworked EMP grenade (will disable instead of destroy gadgets of defenders)
- Match replay alpha phase
- Map ban for ranked and unranked

Sadly no mention of Tachanka and Castle reworks, or the next elite skins, though it probably still is Doki who was leaked all the way back in May.

Good old Sam.

It's been a while since the last Splinter Cell game, but now he's turning up again. I just started the second season of Ghost Recon: Breakingpoint, which has the player working with Sam. Makes me wonder if Ubisoft is laying the groundwork for a new Splinter Cell game.

Does this mean that one player can go around putting down all the reinforced walls?

That'd save a lot of time and make things more efficient.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2020/08/17 04:00:21

Exactly what can happen now. And if someone leaves, you're not down reinforcements.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2020/08/17 06:03:44

Post by: BrookM

A single person doing all reinforcements..?

Spawn tries it on Kafe and it's not efficient.

But not having to chase up spankers who rush off for that suicidal spawn peek or operators like Maestro who need time to deploy their gadgets in particular places can now leave it to anchors like Doc and Rook to do it for them. Also, faster ops who go for hatches can do more than two on their run if need be. Added bonus, when running custom games where you teach newbies the ropes, this also helps a lot.

And again, being down one player doesn't immediately force you to play with potential holes in your defences.

Current joke is, Ubi's putting Sam in everything but a new game. Expect him to cameo in Assassin's Creed Valhalla later this year.

Sam's missions in Breakpoint are awesome though (except for the first one, which is a stupid rail shooter), especially that final mission, well worth playing if you've maxed out the Echelon skill set and gotten the full Echelon uniform and goggles kit along with a silenced pistol you're comfy with.

People who love running with DMR's will be extra pleased, as they gain access to the 3x scope that was originally on Capitão and Big Rhonda's lmg's only. So higher magnification and a clearer aiming point, ace!

Below are the lists of who gets what scope, something that pops out straight away: Doc and Rook both no longer have ACOG's. My IQ.T loses ACOG on both 553 and G8A1 Bit of a bummer as I was one of the few people who couldn't get used to an ACOG until a couple of seasons ago.

New season has been delayed for an unknown time due to some game-breaking bugs still plaguing TTS.

Meanwhile, stumbled across this one, where people go about creating a game mode of their own:

- five attackers
- one defender who plays as Oryx
- Attackers hide and Oryx has to track them down, he can only kill them after knocking them down first. Attackers may only melee back if they survive the knockdown, or are the last attacker standing.
- No guns may be used and most gadgets, or at least the lethal ones, are not allowed

More changes and the pick-win deltas: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/game/rainbow-six/siege/news-updates/6VV3TGmosIJOUzjegN7eDh/y5s33-designers-notes

In short:

- Ace's S.E.L.M.A.'s are down to two charges instead of three per package
- Frost gets the ITA12S as a secondary weapon
- Glaz got some tweaks done on his scope to make him more attractive
- Melusi gets the MP5 and loses the T-5
- Oryx loses the MP5 and gets the T-5
- Some stuff about dealing with shields and how they will now also block explosive damage for others standing behind a shield user

Melusi getting the MP5 feels like a buff on top of an already powerful operator, when she isn't voted out. YMMV but the T-5 never felt like a good weapon, so giving it to Oryx, who already has a rather mediocre shotgun, feels like a downgrade, but what do I know? Ubisoft says that the T-5 is one of the best defender weapons out there right now.

Hopefully we should be seeing some TTS footage and feedback of the reworked Tachanka sooner or later, I know Chris from Varsity Gaming is already doing this. I know Bikini Bohdi is already whining a lot online about the rework, but feth that guy.

Purist will complain that it takes the game even further from the initial vision of year zero.

But yes, an interesting area denial gadget that is not all-powerful paired with a good selection of weapons (DMR on defence is sick, move over Jäger, there is a new spawn peeker in town) and the ability to give hatches and walls love taps for quick breaching without needing to nag to another player to bring a shotgun, shorty or revolver. She does make overly large peekholes, which is probably her biggest drawback right now.

Also..

Reworked + elite skin, they went all-out on the lord. So far feedback has been very favourable and supportive, making him a solid anchor / roamer with good utility in both roles. Haven't had a chance to give him a try yet, but looking forward to it whenever I get the chance to do so.

With that the Russians join the GSG9 and SAS in having their entire team in elite skins. Chances are Monty will be next, as Castle may see a rework / overhaul, if they continue support for Siege for another year.

In short:

- Florence is a new attacker, from Argentina
- Comes with Russian pistol (the bad one) and either the AR-33 (Thatcher's gun) or the SR-25 (BBeards DMR)
- Comes with two drones packed with C4
- Once drone is deployed is will move, cannot stop or reverse and has a timer
- Once the explosive is activated it will locked down and armour up, counting down
- Some attackers gain a new single shot sidearm that shoots a small explosive charge
- Border has gotten a small overhaul

Also, PC will finally start the beta of match replay, making the tracking down of hackers even easier now.

Pick-ban deltas are still pretty much the same, with Ash/Jäger still being the most picked ops. Ditto on the bans, pretty much still the same.

Biggest thing I've seen is that Nerfbeard has been hit again! Shield HP from 50 down to 20, MK17 damage down from 49 to 40 and Nokk will be immune to certain gadgets whilst cloaked (Ela's Grzmots, Banshees, EDD's, proximity alarms and metal detectors), but this is TEST SERVER ONLY at the moment.

Also noticed, no more season passes! To unlock new operators you either put down the R6 credits, renown or as an early unlock via the premium battle pass.

Nokk being immune to EDDs when cloaked is pretty cool.

Surprised to see Mira so high on the banned list.

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2021/02/23 07:14:51

Post by: BrookM

EDD immunity is great for casual and lower ranks, Kapkan is good, but not a popular pick in the higher ranks, as once Kap's been spotted by a drone, players with decent map knowledge (or just plain paranoia) will know where most traps will be put nine times out of ten. Nokk being able to ignore Grzmots however? Ace, as a good Ela always puts those mines overhead and out of reach, so you either need to detour or just eat that concussion and hope she's not around. Ditto with wub-wubs, though given Melusi's ban rate, chances of seeing this in action will be slim to nil.

Mira's mirrors are still one of the biggest game changers around, especially after the player base found out how to best use them, i.e. not as Ubi had intended, which was part observation, part slow-deploy firing port. The ability to put a bulletproof observation window into a reinforced wall, taking out a blindspot, wins games. Ubi caught on to this and had Mira deploy her mirror as most players do in last year's CGI event movie: one wall reinforced, put mirror on edge, other wall unreinforced, shoot hole next to mirror with pocket shotty and use that as firing port.

edit.

Breakdown of the dev stream and what lies ahead in terms of tweaks, buffs and nerfs, along with feedback from Chris.

This is video-game adjacent, I suppose, but Siege is about to be a board game. The KS is starting in the near future.

It will be interesting to see how it'll transition into a boardgame and if the same bone-headed strats will also work there. If affordable, will get it just for the IQ mini and from the look of things, year zero only, so DLC expansion packs ahoy, which may or may not introduce more maps as well. ... who is an attacker???

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2021/08/23 16:51:14

Post by: BrookM

First reaction was, oh great, another shield operator / someone replacing Blackbeard. But having seen footage of her in play; an interesting take on shield operators, without being OP. It was fun watching MacieJay doing quick counters with impacts, especially when players tried the crouched advance with someone behind OSA, resulting in nice double kills. I can see her having uses on certain maps, but as with many ops, situational and certainly not a must-include like say, Ace.

I'm also pleased with the updates they've implemented to the maps. Not massive overhauls, but some much needed fixes or changes, like the removal of the bars on bank and moving the bomb site on Coastline so the hilariously effective backwards Monty plant can no longer be done.

Other operator tweaks are nice as well.
- IQT's gadget getting more utility with better pinging of gadgets and yay, being able to ping defenders who are called by mom's Logic Bomb
- Twitch's drones can finally jump as well, along with an almost unlimited range laser instead of tasers
- Fuze being able to puck reinforced surfaces at the cost of one puck

Usual fething around with weapon recoil and attachments to try and nerf the top picks again, which surprisingly bumped Iana up in the attacker win delta, pretty much on her way to replace Ash. It's amazing how quickly Zofia dropped down after they nerfed the recoil on her M762.

Is it good that Twitch doesn't get her special drones during the prep phase?

Rainbow Six Siege - new defender: Thunderbird @ 2021/09/05 11:11:27

Post by: BrookM

Had to think on this for a bit, as a jumping Twitch drone hunting defender utility during prep would be a nightmare. It's not an elegant solution, but it works best for the defenders, who can now do actual prep without having to worry about Twitch disabling mirrors, ADS’ and whatnot that were placed early in the prep phase, normally being forced to wait until end of prep / early attack phase to place them and run afoul of rushes or being in a spot they don’t want to be.

I think it'll be okay, but watch Ubi prove me wrong and change things again as this all messes with the pick-delta of Twitch.

Also.. new map incoming, team deathmatch incoming, Goyo got nerfed (shields removed, only canisters from now on), everybody gets access to every X1 sight in the game and Nomad is getting the next elite, with Monty and Kaid after.

Sometime ago Kali decided to not-so covertly recruit talent away from from Rainbow, taking with her some of Rainbow's talent to her own PMC, Nighthaven, creating the team Ash versus team Kali schism. Not all that bad, as she's mainly siphoning away some of the more annoying characters, like Ace. Sadly, my Q.T. IQ has also turned traitor now.

Regarding Ela; another animated film implies however that Ela has gone undercover for Harry and isn't really part of team Queen Bitch, which may be a nice twist, but seeing as this is a multiplayer game first and foremost, lore takes a backseat to what really matters.

That said, this may all be an attempt by Ubisoft to fix things (but knowing Ubi, one step forward, ten steps back at this point..), as the introduction of Nighthaven was a very unpopular one, many fans declaring that Team Rainbow would never resort to taking in mercenaries.
