I’m really hoping Necromunda means more than just the forthcoming weapon upgrade kits.

With the six Clan books out, I’m desperate to know where we go from here.

They said awhile back that there would be a "big reveal" later in the year...so I'm thinking this will be where we get that info.

As a sidenote, am I crazy or does that look like a Chaos Dwarf with a crossbow on the teaser silhouettes?

I don't think it is, the arms would be too long.

Thats a SOB model. And the blue silouette is some kind of dwarf or small humanoid with a lantern.

Is this the first time GW has been to Gencon or just the first time they're doing a reveal at Gencon - or none of the above and they're just pre-announcing they'll do a reveal there and have always had a presence there?

They're usually at GenCon. It's just newsworthy as they're making it clear they will be doing some reveals.

I think is a SoB; it fits the weird crossbow combi-bolter thing. The other two look like an SM with a 2 handed sword (middle, in yellow), and someone holding a lantern (probably a SCE, but I'd love if it was something for CoS)

Anyway, excited to see something about Blood Bowl on the schedule. The Necromunda news is probably something regarding the mystery faction teased before. And Kill Team is probably about the next set (which was rumoured to be SoB neophytes vs. GSC? IIRC; that would make the red silhouette being a SoB more likely).

EDIT: the next Kill Team set is rumoured to be SoB Neophytes vs T'au Pathfinders.

It's in the OP now!

With that?
Leftmost silhouette seems to be a human of some type. Cannot tell if 40k or AoS. Middle's a Black Templar.
Right seems to be an AoS model! Is not dwarf though.

My bet:

-40k black templars
-underworld: new season, full krulle or the full box vs stormcast
-Blood bowl: please chorfs, I accept vampires too.
-Necromunda: I demand that they will be the new ash wastes (and please make them look like the artwork)
-warcry: no idea. A new edition so followed by the kill team I don't think it's a good idea. Maybe a band of witch hunters.
-Kill team: as the rumor said, neophyte sisters

Necromunda is scheduled to have a new gang appear at the end of the year:

-40k: I agree, most likely option. Maybe next Codex after BT teased.
-Underworlds: agree too; but would ove it if the opponent warband was CoS (not very likely though)
-Blood Bowl: since I started converting Chorfs, it's probably that -_-
-Warcry: Could be anything honestly. I'm mostly awaiting a pleasant surprise.

Yellow: Most certainly a Black Templar Space Marine

Red: Reminds me of old (fantasy) Witchhunters or maybe a Sisters Kill Team model with a fancy condemnor Bolter

Blue: Something dwarfish holding a severed head and a knife? Chaos dwarfs or Squats, who knows.

I think the blue figures left hand is holding a huge sword that is still attached at its waist and the sword tip can be seen behind the figure, also some sort of cape or tabard.

I agree the red crossbow seems to have a magazine underneath.

Really good spot!

Since AoS isn't a factor...I'm thinking it is either Underworlds or WarCry. Might very well be a "City Watch" styled thing, given that the Kruleboyz are in the Underworlds season?

I agree the red crossbow seems to have a magazine underneath.

This one does seem to, but given two factions in AoS(Stormcast and Dark Elf remnants) have magazine fed crossbows that's a bit less of a definitive thing for figuring it out.

I might be off a year or two, but I think these where the dates. The last US Games Day was 2013. Forge World had a booth at GenCon in 2014. In 2015 GW had a separate booth from FW to launch Age of Sigmar. That year both booths where manned by US store managers because the UK team was turned back at customs, they had the wrong visas. Both FW and GW have been using the same booth until 2019 when the Combat card game got its own booth.

Blue I’m increasingly convinced is from the AoS setting, and not a SoB.

Right I think might actually be a SoB - perhaps a dedicated Celestians Kit to tie into Kill Team, with similar mix and match options as the Orks and Guard, and what we’re seeing is a Combi Bow Bolter thing. The one Psykers don’t like up ‘em.

The (pretty reliable) leak for SoB Killteam was that they would be Neophytes. Tau were unfortunately just getting the old Path Finder kit with an upgrade sprue.

"So many years after Necromunda's release, we took the time to really reflect on not only where we were going, but also where we'd come from. With that in mind, we thought it was only right to go back to the beginning and give a proper update to the two original gangs - Escher and Goliath. We're very proud to announce second editions of both House of Blades and House of Chains. These great new tomes will update the rules considerably, and will kick off a new wave of second editions for all the classic Necromunda Gangs over the next year and a half."

But yeah, here's hoping for an actual new gang.

And I think the right one is something Stormcast related. Probably underworlds. If it's an Inquisitor, then great.

I think the middle one is a BT Marshall, or a Sword Brother at the absolute least.

No idea on the left-most one. Repurposed Cursed City release?

On closer inspection, the blue model seems to hold a lantern of sorts, not a head.

Disappointed there's nothing for Titanicus but I've given up on that game anyway. Otherwise, its good to see GW taking a break from AoS 3rd edition previews.

A new Tyranid model or two would be nice; expecting to see a new Lictor/Death leaper kit along with the Red Terror. It won't happen but I'd like to see a new Tyranid that is more reminiscent of the classic Screamer Killer. Miss that guy so...damn...much!

Tired of waiting for that Harlequin codex...

New season of Underworlds seems a given, and very likely Stormcasts vs Kruleboyz. Maybe new monsters for Warcry, and a new starter set? Personally, I'd like to see something Soulblight for this game, which would somewhat make up for Cursed City.

Not a Blood Bowl nor Necromunda player, but interested to hear what others are hoping for. Are these games in their happy places or do you regularly shake your fists at them?

You're crazy, its a Sister of Battle.

Yellow dude is a Black Templar.

Not sure what Blue is, saw some people saying it was a Kruleboy or something but I dont see it, looks more like a witchhunter to me ala some of the other recent Cities of Sigmar models.

This one does seem to, but given two factions in AoS(Stormcast and Dark Elf remnants) have magazine fed crossbows that's a bit less of a definitive thing for figuring it out.

Its pretty clearly wearing a sororitas helmet and has the poofy sororitas sleeves. Proportionately it is also fairly lean and has a narrow waist. Its a sororitas.

That post was made when all we had was the teaser from the top of the article. With the full on teaser that we have now? Yeah. It's a lot more obvious that it's something Sororitas.

Tin Foil moment. Kinda.

They describe it as a Grand Host of reveals…..that’s curious wording to my mind. It is however also the end of a long day with a very challenging (in a positive “man I have to think about this proper hard” way) phone call rounding it off!

TBF the Specialist stuff seems to get bursts of content then another game gets a run. I was certain Titanicus got quite a bit recently in between Necromunda, Blood Bowl, and LotR.
Then again I could have sworn that Admech were released recently but apparently, it was released four months ago. Where has the time gone?

Red is definitely a kill team sister, probably the boss but it would make sense for more of them to have silent crossbows.

Blue is a Stormcast leading some witch hunters makes sense for a 'Truth Seeker' warband.

Yellow, Black Templar.

So the next KT box is already on the way? Very interested to see what it'll be like, as it no doubt will point out the shape & form for most future releases for KT21.

Will it just be a big box with everything (rules, minis, terrain) or will we also be able to buy the items separately? I haven't even taken my Octarius sprues out of the box yet, not sure I can handle another full box hehehe!

Rumours say it'll be SoB vs Tau with existing Imperial terrain.. but which terrain set? Sector Mechanicus seems to be rinsed to death already, so is it going to be the gothic buildings or wall of martyrs stuff? My money's on the gothic buildings.. In fact, if that building with that SoB statue is onboard, that'd turn out to be mighty tempting as the retail price of that kit has been a turn off so far

There's going to be terrain and a new campaign book, just like Octarius was. That campaign book will have missions which require all the terrain coming with the box. I think we can be quite sure this will be the case.. However, will the only option for buying in be a single big box? I hope we will get options..

Nothing in my post stated that the Warmaster was insignificant. It was disappointing for those hoping for a smaller titan but otherwise welcomed by most, and is probably more so than an actual Imperator.

Also I was referring to this year's releases, of which we are now looking towards Christmas. I've never heard of them releasing a "Warmonger" titan. If you are referring to the Warbringer that was released way back at the beginning of last year.

They also failed to deliver on the 40k releases roadmap in the first 6 months with some units being much later than expected.

Don't forget that following the 40k release there was a whole sigmar campaign and multiple army expansions whilst 40k got... marine supplements and a kill team box that was 5 months late.

Why? We've had the new edition and finally the first two books. We're still missing a load of kits for those books and we know the first chaos book is October. These previews don't always have to be dominated by the two core games.

It is exactly the lack of Chaos that's starting to make it look that they will delay it to november.

Relax, there's been more than a few chaos teasers over the last months.

But i bet that sister is going to be part of a kill team specific box.

I predict a Warcry boxed set with 2 new warbands, terrain repurposed from the new AoS terrain sets with maybe an exclusive sprue or some such.

Underworlds is a lock for a new boxed set, as they've said as much.

Necromunda will be a new House Goliath book, resetting the cycle and bringing forth a deluge of new rules inconsistencies. I kid, I kid. The Ash Waste Nomads, perhaps?

Kill Team, I don't follow so I have no clue. Same with Blood Bowl.

New Blood Bowl teams would be appreciated, maybe Amazon and Norse? I would love a new WarCry boxed set with different terrain.

Gold dude obviously a Templar - gold colour possibly a hint of it being Helbrecht although it's a different sword/backpack ornament outline.
Red is a sister - celestian helmet and condemnor bow so hopefully a killteam kit full of options like kommandos/krieg.
No idea on blue - looks more fantasy than 40k.

Weird that the backdrop looks like all the dice GW doesn't use anymore.

Well, they were in the previous edition of Kill Team alongside the Banshess, and we already have the Banshees.

Saying that, Rangers are another strong candidate for Kill Team...

Pretty sure the blue outline is the Stormcast character hinted at in this artwork.

This art has the long sword and hood of the model – the lantern wouldn't be as involved in this melee pose, but he easily could have sat it down.

Yeah, definitely the red model is a Sister of Battle with a Condemnor Boltgun. That shape is VERY unique when you see it in person. I've built several and can literally hold the model up to the screen to match the condemnor boltgun perfectly.

The helmet resembles the helmets you get out of the Sacresant kit, with an extra leaf with the fleur up on it, and the shoulder pads match the current shoulder pads perfectly.

If it is indeed the 'novitiate' sisters, then perhaps they are lead to battle by a veteran sister superior, or perhaps its something else entirely. Either way, I'm down for more Sisters of Battle.

Could the proposed sister be not actually a sister and an inquisitor and/or the rumoured priests that were milling about at one point?

I reckon the black templar is from the new sword brethren kit and the pose is somewhat (not identical as the model seems more static) based off this artwork

I have to say, I do love it when they make models off art work. (New Mephiston for example). I’ve seen a lot of images over the last 25 years and wished they’d make a model of it. Usually space marines to be honest. So a helbrecht based on that art work and a marshal or something based off the old BT codex cover is very exciting

The rumours (which are looking good based on stuff we’ve seen so far, and they’re from someone who called Krieg vs Kommandos a while ago) are Sisters Initiates vs Tau Pathfinders.

Yes, I know.

What I'm saying is that we do not know if this is a Warzone related set and will be treated as such(meaning "limited quantities/launch box") or if it is the 'basic' KT box, assuming they're going to do one.

Interesting to see the individual releases as heavily Kill Team branded. As the specialist games are usually in a different part of the store (and website) they may be missed by the more casual buyer. It's less of an issue for the Kommandos as they are 'advertised' in the codex but the Kreig have basically no presence in 40K right now (from a GW vs FW perspective).

It was the one with Nids and Imps in Dec, not GSC and Custodes right? Damn, thats gonna be a busy month for me as a nids and imps player

I was trying to put my finger on what's different about those Sisters, other than no helmets.

No backpacks! I don't even think their armour is power armour. Two of them have auto-pistols.

Looks like just metal greaves and the rest is leather. Cut off some pistols and grenades and you've got Sisters of Sigmar too

Sisters look like they're a dual kit for a Mordheim release. Took me a bit to find the autopistols and other little gubbins that convinced me it actually was a 40k release.

Leather & corsets & wimples backed up by pauldrons and greaves is... interesting.

Wait a second... in the original Sisters of Battle rules for Dark Heresy they didn't give her power armour, but rather plate armour, to start with.

I imagine it was because the Black Industries writers thought that a Level 1 character with Power Armour would dominate everything.

The latter book FFG wrote restored Sisters to their rightful prominence but these minis allow for non-power armour Sisters, which could be very cool. I really do hope there are a few more gun options in that kit, and that, like the Kommandos and Kriegers, each model has two builds.

Yeesh, those T'au are a bit bobbinz. I guess they had to find some justification for making a new kit bespoke to this box but those vizors probably weren't the answer.

The Sisters seem interesting, much as I can't help but look at conversion potential rather than admire the actual models.

Hopefully rules can still be bought separately.

Tau must be an add-on sprue as I just assembled some Pathfinders and I see lots of familiar objects. But tactical rock and lots of heads and arms are new.

The sisters look great.

Throwing in +1 that there's something uncanny valley about the Tau. As said there's definitely copies of the Pathfinder kit (compare for example the sergeant on the regular kit to the new one on the top right). So I think its just new heads and bling. And that might be what's creating this slightly unnatural feeling to the models. Its pushing "third party head kitbash" rather than 40k for me.

Yes, its a semi-new unit for 40k, thats why you're not seeing anything that matches a codex loadout. They're sisters novitiates or something like that, the only place they appeared previously was in Shadow War: Armageddon where they had rules but no minis.

Not digging those sisters for 40k, but they're going to make great Sisters of Sigmar. I even see a few normal, not even power, swords. Granted, you'll need more hammers for a proper Sigmar-fearing warband, but Stormcast have those in spades.

Judging by the extra sword/auto pistol sister in the second image who doesn't feature in the first, it looks like there will be the option to build them was more basic gear (the body looks like the one holding the chalice thing from the first image).

If that's the case, then the kit will be worth it just to use all the extra bits to convert characters out of normal power armoured sisters.

(The unit leader also has the option of bolt/plasma pistol)

Even after GW's description, I still don't get why you'd send novitiates to do kill team stuff, or why they'd be carrying a bunch of holy relics..?

Or why they'd be using auto-weapons for that matter.

Games Workshop @ GenCon!(All Done!) @ 2021/09/16 17:18:48

Post by: Overread

I guess auto weapons because bolt-guns would break their arms/cause undue fatigue as they aren't wearing power-armour to help them. Plus as novices they are likely not allowed to use such hallowed weapons yet.

As for the Holy Relics, don't forget most of the SoB equipment is a Holy Relic of some description or type.

Games Workshop @ GenCon!(All Done!) @ 2021/09/16 17:19:21

Same reason why you'd send a bunch of Gaunts, Guardsmen, Ork Boyz, Fire Warriors, etc?
You have the forces handy and they can maybe accomplish the objectives.

Although from the setup/trailer? It looks like the Sororitas are potentially evacuating relics from a monastery or something.

So far that rumours seams to be spot on. That makes me happy as an Eldar player, since there is suppose to be massive Eldar release next year according to the rumour along with a massive CSM release. They also said we are getting squats and that made suspicious of that rumour, but now looks we are getting squats. I am not sure in what format. whether it's a full army of just a kill team

Its the return of the GW effect: 'the sculptors thought it was cool, the writers just have to suffer it out'

Looking at the WarCom article close ups, I'm sticking with my initial impression: good bits box, rubbish unit with a completely incoherent approach.

'Kill Team' or no, you'd still equip scouts or novices sensibly. The only thing this unit is geared for is a propaganda poster shoot.

Games Workshop @ GenCon!(All Done!) @ 2021/09/16 17:29:49

Post by: Gregor Samsa

We just have to abandon WYSIWYG for kill team. GW marketing is incoherent and trying to rationalise everything into "immersion" in the lore for a tabletop experience is just too much chasing your own tail. Just paint on the base to denote its weapon and model whatever looks cool imo.

Guessing the rules book on its own is $50? Don't have much interest in anything else. Especially more gothic ruins...

The kit is likely to be like the Kommando and Krieg units. They can be put together in a specific kill team format with unique weapons or they can be created as a 40K unit with a more unified approach.

Cos it's the Imperium, there are holy relics all over the place. These ones might only be tier 0 holy relics, still holy but not really. As for sending rookies, experience. No better way to learn than a difficult mission where most of you will die. The survivors will either be shellshocked and useless, which means they weren't deserving of initiation in the first place or they will be hardened and ready for more. You can't think logically when it comes to religious cults like the Sisters.

This is why myself and others increasingly refuse to purchase printed rulebooks and are pissed about the lack of digital rules support for the game. Rules are in too many places and the publications which are supposed to be your "one stop shop" for everything to do with your faction are often filled with heavy edits within just a couple weeks of release, and then missing larger and larger segments of the total faction rules as time goes on and supplementary rules are released through other channels. The product lifecycle is just way too short relative to the cost of the book for it to be a good use of my money - thats money that I could be using to buy more minis instead

I think the AoS Slaanesh book was 1 month out before they dropped the newest demi-god model which makes two new characters. Granted I think the original plan had the Slaanesh book landing a bit earlier than it did, but yeah still onyl a few months out.

From the Sisters vs Tau article:

"As well as being perfect for skirmish games in the far future, you’ll also be able to deploy both of these units in full games of Warhammer 40,000."

That's quite a bit more than a "hint".

Too many cultist things for my liking. I'd rather not have another Edition where the namesake of the Codex is sidelined in favour of mortals.

The rumor was for releases...remember that Chaos Space Marines just had a fairly significant range revamp not long ago, focused basically entirely upon the namesakes of the Codex.

Oh yeah also the rumours says Squats as a thing and I can't stand Squats. I like nostalgia but that's too much nostalgia.

Not sure how I feel about this one.

I know it's just releases but 3 Editions of trash CSM (specifically the unit) doesn't get my hopes up.

Not sure how I feel about this one.

I'm just kind of sick of them. It's like the "Failbaddon the Armless" or "Plastic Aspect Warriors when?" jokes. I have a similar situation with 3.5 Edition, people keep talking about how great it is and I've developed a reflex of eye-rolling and sighing.

Well for those of us who've actually had their army SQUATTED, I find the possibility of them coming back pretty good.
Mentioned in 8th BRB, mentioned and teased in PA, 2 official minis(albeit Necromunda) & damn good looking Kharadrons(for all intents & purposes, Squats).

So I'll forgive those that haven't been squatted, they know not of which they speak.

The real question is, why is one training to be a repentia? Does she know she's gonna feth up badly in a few years?

Eviscerators were a canoness option for like...20 years before they got sent to legends in 8th.

The ocean theme of the new Underworlds season looks really nice but there's nothing aquatic about the two included warbands, and I'm surprised that they didn't hold back the Deepkin warband for this set.

Also, it feels like Underworlds is lacking a narrative mode of play, given that it has an ongoing story thats as interesting as Blackstone Fortress. And while they're at it, it would be nice to have a solo-monster pack for each season, bit like the Fomoroid Crusher featured on Warhammer Community. Bit sad they haven't followed it up with rules for the Mindstealer or Ogroid.

Very disappointed with the Kill Team rollout so far. The new starter set looks underwhelming compared to the previous edition's starters, but if its about...£75, it would go some way to make the game more accessable.

SnotlingPimpWagon wrote:

New Underwolds look sucky, but maybe I’m just salty I haven’t had the chance to buy Direchasm, Beastgrave and a few other warbands yet. Beastmen and Slaanesh warbands will sell separately, right? RIGHT?

Depends where you live in the world but Direchasm is still on sale at Wayland games with 20% discount(free p&p too!). The warbands weren't my bag but the whole set is growing on me and recommend it, if Wayland is an option.

Direchasm and the accompanying warbands should be available until the starter set after Harrowdeep releases, at least according to the season schedule. It's Beastgrave and that block that goes out of print this year.

I kind of assumed they were recovering relics, treasure hunts could be dangerous enough but also out of the way enough that it's a good test for a new recruit (of power skill and worthiness, should the Emperor allow a saint reveal their hidden relics to the team) but a waste of a battle line unit who have more strategically important things to do than a little bit of shooting and a lot of digging and reading.

Predators and Centurions, now essentially Sisters versions of scouts, even so much as being an equivalent rank....

I like the models but the designers need to stop making Sisters just female first born marines in design, they could be something so much more interesting, the Orders Sabine who specialise in infiltration for example.

Tau path finders are fine, they really don't need a brand new kit, that would be a waste considering the original kit is not all that old, it would just be replacing for replacing sake.

Only thing stopping me from getting into Underworlds at this point is that I missed the first season and a half of stuff before it all suddenly went OOP. I'm a completionist, so the hurdles and obstacles GW has erected in the way of me completing the collection of cards and game content has made me completely uninterested in investing funds into any of those products.

Its a general hassle, from experience the various post scheduling apps out there very easily got knocked out of whack/off schedule whenever the devs roll out an app update. its not uncommon for posts to be un-scheduled, re-scheduled, entirely cancelled, etc. (seemingly at random) as a result.

Curious how the pricing is going to work out for these expansions?

Assuming they don't include the full rule book, the measuring gauges, dice etc.

SoB unit = $60
Tau unit = $38 currently, but assume upgrade sprue bumps it to $45 a la Cadians.
Terrain = $130, assuming that's an entire box of Sector Imperalis terrain?

So $235 of models, for $199? Or does this inherit the $165 Command Edition price point?

Thoughts?

Terrain looks like 2 sprues of walls, 2 sprues of floors, 2 sets of ruins, and the gateway sprue. Glad to see that make a return.

Sisters are probably a unit similar to the kommandoes. Leader with options, 9 troops with sword and auto pistol. Then 1 per 10 can take x, 1 per 10 can take y, one per 10 can take z, ect. The options are there to make the various types of specialists, and the box art is going to show off all of the options, giving a disjointed loadout if you take one of everything, even if it is allowed by rules.

Why are so many people suddenly convinced that the 2022 timeline rumours are gospel?

The accurate pathfinder vs sister rumours are from a different source than the eldar/squats/chaos rumours.
So the only things that are very likely to be true are the Black Templar stuff and the Custodes vs GSC box in December.

With the confirmation of new factions for Kill Team coming in big boxes every quarter it leads for a long perceived life for the current edition. Considering with 40Ks much more intense codex schedule they have a hard time fitting it all in before a new edition and the new KT it's even slower. Even shaving off the couple of non KT friendly factions doesn't buy much extra time. Looks like the compendium will be all some factions get possibly.

Also I'm hoping the new rules come in the box with the models standalone as well as in the big boxsets. Having many hefty tomes the size of Octarius just to play too more factions goes against the flexibility of Kill Team modelling. I applaud the fact that they are focusing on teams that can truly be made from one box but if you need that box and a book it starts to mean that impulse 'ohh nice shiny thing' buying and hobbying is lost. Plus unlike Codexs which are named for each faction after a few I can see it being a chore to remember who is in what.

The one thing that I think is very disappointing is that only one kill team in the new box is new. There’s an upgrade sprue and then a lot of sunk cost plastic. I know I wasn’t the only one thinking each new faction in each quarter would be new, but now we seem to only get one new kit every three month instead of two. I can’t wait until they re-release Rogue Trader and have zero new plastic in a big box release.

It’s almost like GW is afraid to actually make the game they want for fear of severely cannibalizing 40K sales. It’s irrational of them. But why pour so much into Warcry then phone in two version of Kill Team plastics.

Meh, in my opinion it's intentional and they're holding back 40K to increase the popularity of AoS and it's spinoffs.

Batch A and B were the same leak, from the same source (same user, which is also a mod there). I had commented on the thread and then commented again on the batch B one once it was split in two.
It got split in two for convenience and to not let a single thread derail on "squats!!!", since "batch A" had plenty of details on the Templars.

This is where things become difficult...
Both batches came from B&C, not 4chan.

The 4chan ones contained the nonsense about the Harlequin transports, etc--a literal "clown car" joke. There was a huuuuuuuuugely expanded list of Craftworld/Aeldari stuff--that's the 4chan trash that Faeit+BoLS also started amplifying.

Problem is that the individual who posted the stuff on B&C had their posts removed. So there are screenshots out there of some of it but also some people who just kinda/sorta kept reposting snippets of it and it crossed wires with the 4chan trash.

They literally said in the early streams about Kill Team that the plan wouldn't just be "new kits". Upgrade sprues were mentioned--as the DKoK literally come with an upgrade sprue that has a good chunk of their specialist options on there.

I'm 100% convinced that the Cadian upgrade sprue we got recently was partly intended for KT as well.

There were not.

It might be a bit higher if they include the Veteran Guardsman KT rules and the Specialist upgrade frame within the box...but if they go that route, we might see another version of the box down the road which is doubled up for models or with a HWT or something of that nature.

I would agree on that make-up. Glad the Gateway sprue is back. Very reliable guy I know on Facebook is always getting tons of sets and breaking them up for parts, so there's a good chance he'll get some of those gateway sprues. Believe it or not, I only have 1 of that sprue, so I'd love another one. Or 3.

The options are there to make the various types of specialists, and the box art is going to show off all of the options, giving a disjointed loadout if you take one of everything, even if it is allowed by rules.
Lord Damocles spotted the generic sister in this pic, so it seems that they have all their fancy options, and then regular pistol/shield options. This is good.

Some of the models in the kit have less mould lines/obvious lines than others I have found when building my own, e.g some have been super quick to clean whilst others have took more time.

In regards to the pathfinders not being fully new, is anyone actually seriously suggesting that kit is outdated and required a full refresh? Considering the backlog of units that actually need a model update across multiple factions? The upgrade sprue is fine, it would just be a new kit for the sake of a new kit otherwise. Most of the Tau kits are relatively modern/new still, they really do not need to have the refresh cycle started on them.

I'm happy with an upgrade sprue for pathfinders, even if I wish they had redone kroot instead.

I dont think the cadian sprue was meant as a kill team tie in though. If they wanted to make a cadia n squad, mixing the command squad and a 5 man set of infantry would cover a lot more specialists than the upgrade sprue does. The upgrade basically exists to fill out the missi g options in the infantry box, letting gw get rid of the old cadian snipers, sergeants, and special weapons blisters.

I am curious what units could make a kill team with an upgrade sprue, vs what armies would be better with a new unit/kit. Skitarii and genestealer cult both could get by with an upgrade sprue. Eldar rangers and chaos chosen would both be good kits to get the integrated specialists like kommandoes.

They usually eventually release the miniatures for Underworld seperately don't they? May have use for the SCE but not the Kruleboyz and I don't play Underworlds.

They didn't for the last season. Scuttlebutt I've heard is that the individual sales don't ever really amount to anything, in the Grand Scheme of Things.

I like the SCE and Kruelboyz in the new Underworlds starter.

Obviously it's personal preference, but I loathe this new KT box. The new Sisters models look awful to me, the heads in particular. The headpieces are really goofy and over-exaggerated and lot of the faces are very derpy. The Tau expansion sprue looks like it has some nice arm and accessory options, but man those new Star Trek visor heads look terrible. The normal helmets and old Tau helmetless heads look miles better in my opinion. The terrain is old, but at least its nice. Really disappointed, especially after how awesome Octarius was.

Oh well, money saved I suppose.

The way they split Tau Empire and Mercenery Cadre into two factions tells me that Kroot may eventually be getting their own Kill Team treatment later on.

Also, good spot by Lord Damocles. That was what I was hoping to see out of the Sisters Novitiates. In 40k I'm sure they'll be great as a cheap objective capping unit with basic swords and pistols that can also harass. WS/BS 4+ with S3 and no AP with maybe 2 attacks apiece, 3 for the leader with a power sword (ap3, still S3), is what I'd bet on. Maybe a 4+ or even 5+ armor save, supplemented by the typical Shield of Faith rules.

I'm pretty excited by the idea that the Novitiates have SO MANY ARMS, and many of them will likely fit perfectly with the rest of the sisters of battle (same elbow armor, robe, and gloves), which is going to be phenomenal for converting all the different characters, superiors, or just regular battle sisters. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

As for other things that might get the Kill Team treatment, I figure we can group things into 3 categories:

Kits that are Modern (no update expected, no upgrade sprue needed)
Kits to Replace (old kits that really need an entire rehash)
Kits to Upgrade (modern kits that could get an upgrade sprue in the box)

So, here's what I'd expect going forward, based in part by some of the rumors we've seen and stuff that's already out.

Kits that are Modern
-Chaos Space Marines - a decent amount of options in the original kit, and arms that are compatible with lots of other kits.
-Plague Marines - pretty characterful kit as it is, with lots of individual weapon options already.
-Thousand Sons - though it doesn't necessarily have a ton of options, what would you really expect out of a group of automatons?
-Kabalite Warriors - A sharp kit with plenty of different weapon options and head options already.
-Drukhari Wyches - With tons of heads, weapons, and other things, I don't see this one getting updated.
-Genestealer Cults - Most of the kits already have lots of options, a mix of weapons, and even things like demo charges. I think most of the Genestealer Cult stuff is in a good place.
-Custodes - I just don't see what else they could do. You've got a very regimented group of golden boys that have so much detail and a number of weapon options, but more than anything you only need 2-4 in a Kill Team.

Kits to Replace
-Eldar Guardians - This fits in with one of the rumors we've seen, involving an Eldar update, and an even older rumor that suggested Eldar Guardians would be getting the Kill Team treatment
-Chaos Cultists - more like... this kit doesn't even exist any more. Getting anything at this point would be an upgrade compared to what we can purchase.
-Chaos Chosen - a great opportunity for the KT treatment. You could make the base squad with typical special weapons for 40k, and have tons of characterful bits for Kill Team, and also matches the rumors
-Tyranid Genestealers - This kit is seriously showing its age, and could be given a lot of character and flavor with lots of different mutations, alongside the typical scything talons and rending claws for 40k
-Admech Servitors - An ancient kit that's kind of lost its purpose, but could be given new life if upgraded and made for Kill Team with a particular kind of leader. They did a great new servitor for a Blackstone Fortress expansion and I'd love to see more of that.

Kits to Upgrade
-Cadian Guardsmen - as was mentioned, this was likely a Kill Team planned release that got out of synch due to world events, and gives us an idea of what else we might see.
-Primaris (Insert Kit here) - Many Primaris kits already have a decent number of bits, but not a lot of flavor that we see compared to the Kommandos, Krieg, Novitiates, or Tau Pathfinders. Any of the Primaris kits could be given a new upgrade sprue. A top contender could be the Rievers, given new life via an upgrade sprue for different specops weapons.
-Harlequins - The standard troupe does have a lot of different options, but what it lacks is flavor and character. An upgrade sprue with some wilder heads, exotic weapons, or even 'stage props' could be a great upgrade.
-Necron Immortals/Deathmark - This box is one of the few that was modern before the big Necron update of 9th, and an upgrade sprue for a few more options could help it stay afloat for years to come. Plus, the base models are pretty bland for Kill Team, especially if you're trying to make a roster and keep them individual.
-Chaos Daemons - I don't really see this happening, but if any of the Chaos Daemons were updated, I'd expect it to be more in the form of an upgrade sprue. Considering these daemons are used both for 40k and Age of Sigmar, I don't see any of the upgrades being 40k-specific. Additional mutations, banners, and heads, would always be welcome to any of those kits, especially since things like Bloodletters can look very same-y.

There's my speculation anyway.

IIRC the rumor mentioned Warp Spiders, Swooping Hawks, and one other of the aspect warriors, along with their Phoenix Lords and Avatar. There was also mention of a split kit of Ranger Bikers and Shining Spears, and maybe a few other things as well. There was yet another rumor that Eldar would get a KT kit for Guardians.

lol this is ridiculous. Between shipping issues (shortage of shipping containers, factory shutdowns, shortage of raw materials globally) as well as Brexit, various countries at different stages of lockdown and recovery, imports/exports a total mess, I'd say that very little of how things are rolling out is 'intentional'. I think GW is going to be in "damage control" for another year.

Case in point, the Ork coin that was released this month was the 11th coin that they released, yet the box that came to game stores is labeled as the 9th coin. In other words, the 40k Ork release was likely initially planned to be two months ago.

I'm not going to say that GW's release plan is in shambles, but things are definitely out of order and they're getting as much hobby material out to us as possible to keep their microeconomy going.

Batch A from 4chan: 2021 BT, Killteam, Orks, Custodes/GSC box
Batch B from B&C: 2022 Tau, Chaos, Eldar, Squats

Batch A is partly verified so we can assume that the remaining items from this batch are likely true as well.
But this doesn't affect the reliability of batch B in any form since it is from another source. As far as I can see the only thing in common is that they were released within the same week - so likely a real leak followed by a copycat fraud.

Everyone would say that the following is nonsensical: "The Onion is a reliable source of news because the New York Times got most of their stuff right in the past." So why are people so insistent to use the same flawed logic here?

Both rumours came from the same source, posted by the same person on B&C. They were just in different threads I believe.

They were, yes. The 4Chan batch was different and if I remember rightly has already been proven wrong.

Things are out of order, but by now it is more looking like GW has the focus on 40k and tries to get those releases running and AoS with the new Edition is hold back and does not see the necessary support, than the other way around (40k hold back to favour AoS release)

and it is still strange that there is no AoS event/release at GenCon as for the main game that is flowing in the new Edition hype and needs the support to get things going with all changes around it and really looks like that it is hold back to favour other products (maybe because of all the issues around Brexit and GW cannot support it and rather keeps quiet)

I mean they're backed up. We still don't actually have our newly released models for Stormcast and Orruks yet. I feel like once again people just seem to be ignoring the fact that the Planet. Is. Shut. Down.

I mean even the local McDonalds closes at 8PM in my town now, because they cannot find workers. Packages seem to take three to four times as long to reach me, even if I pay for two-day service, longer if it takes the seller extra time to get to a post office or transit company. Is it any wonder that they're not rolling new stock off the shelves as if this was 2018 again? I am not the least bit surprised that we haven't seen anymore AoS announcements, none of us were expecting any so soon. The most I am expecting is a couple of battletomes for some of the more established armies, and I'd be surprised to see any more major faction updates until Q2 of 2022. Just give it some time. Patience is something we as gamers all need to learn.

It is not about being patient or that there are still problems around but communication

If some people get the idea that 40k releases are hindered in favour of AoS stuff, despite 40k is better supported than the new Edition of AoS, there is something wrong with Company-Customer communication

GW would benefit by going directly to the customer saying that it is not working as planned because of issues they cannot influence and all releases are months late, instead editing old posts, making a small comment somewhere and saying "it was always planned that way"

short on plastic, short on workers, Warcry being done a while ago and was already in the warehouse and GW needed to make something up for Tau fast to hold the release date

a lot of things can cause this, as well as that GW thought people don't like Tau anyway so an upgrade sprue is enough

Spoiler:

Apparently, there's an option for autoguns too. I'd say the 40k version of the novitiates will have 2 loadouts: 1 CC oriented with autopistols + swords and one with autoguns. Which means a lot of options in the sprue.

As for the rumour list, Bob from War of Sigmar mentioned, in the comments of the article I linked earlier, he's heard Squats are getting "more than a kill team", so there's that.

As with everything, it depends on how they are worked back in the game. What Bob said was "more than a Kill Team", specifying he had heard about the Thudd Gun. That doesn't, however, mean a full army; it could be just a couple of units of Militarum Auxilia in the next IG Codex.

The Tyranid codex being conspicuously absent from the big rumour list could mean they're being saved for new content alongside Squats. It would be very fitting to be reintroduced by fighting their way out of an assault by a hive fleet.

I'll be pretty frigging salty if Nids are one of the last armies to get a codex, which is what this would seem to indicate, given their complete lack of any mention in the credible rumor. Somebody's gotta be last, but it's really a joke if it's one of the earlier 8th books (Nids, Eldar, and Guard are old and very much showing their age.)

Maybe the Octarius book will be a satisfying stopgap, but unless it has new datasheets for many units, I really doubt it's going to move the needle.

Apparently, there's an option for autoguns too. I'd say the 40k version of the novitiates will have 2 loadouts: 1 CC oriented with autopistols + swords and one with autoguns. Which means a lot of options in the sprue.

Ok, that's cool! I just wish that when they previewed models they would do it properly and actually show the options.

Yes, that would be good. Especially because you just know GW can't resist showing all the upgrade bits on their new Kill Team models and that leads to a really disjointed look of the squad. A picture of a more conventionally assembled squad wouldn't go amiss, especially since they've explicitly advertised this option for Guard and Orks and will no doubt follow suit with Sisters. Would be good to see that in pretty, colorful pictures.

I've got a good feeling about the inclusion of unarmored humans with auto weapons in the army. I have every intention of getting a squad or two of Novitiates, of course, but it also provides a place for Frateris Militia conversions where before the best you could do was work with allies. Which is not ideal for a number of reasons.

Not sure how I feel regards squats, I'm not sure there's a niche for them now in their original guise. Do we need an additional imperium faction in decent armour with bolters?

I feel it would be most appropriate for Squats to be a non-Imperium faction.

Well are said to be firing on a Mechanicus ship in the bit of text from PA. They seemed to have been severed from the Imperium. In the old fluff they were largely independent but signed with Imperium but the fluff has changed so much since Rogue Trader and those sorts fo relationships don't exist in modern 40k. Be interesting to see how they bring them back fluff-wise as well as design wise. Non Imperium would be the most interesting..

So as a heads up, with the security certificate thing going on right now with Dakka(it's probably just a background oopsies)...it's gonna be a bit harder to keep the thread updated today.

Bear with me if/when GW does any previews! Thank you all for your patience.
