So probably previews for the two remaining 40k December codices and the Chaos AoS book?

Eh to the lieutenant, but the vampire is probably one of the more intriguing sculpts i've seen. She's awesome.

Maybe?

Last year didn't have much in the way of previews on Warhammer Day itself, but it sounds like they might have learned from that and will instead be doing a preview week.

I'd guess there will be Specialist Games(that Horus Heresy box is still unaccounted for!), 40k(there's a battlebox for GSC+Custodes in the Big Rumours), AoS, and Middle Earth.

I like both minis but if I had to make a choice then my vote would go for the vampire.

Wait, what am I missing with this Lieutenant? It's just a bladeguard vet with lieutenant badge moulded onto the shoulder.

Couldn't they have at least done a Lieutenant with a power axe or lightning claws or just something other than a power sword? It's so far past ridiculous at this point.

Vampire looks very cool, it's sword is a part of an unsolved rumour engine, no?

The veteran is too boring, and could have really done with something to liven him up a bit. The vampire is great though, will look to pick that up.

I normally like new Lieutenants because they offer new stuff, but this one feels like no effort model. Hey, GW, where's gravis LT? Bike LT? Inceptor LT? Power maul, claws or fist option? Combi-weapon like BT ones so you have excuse to give other SM options they should have received long before BT did? Anything actually new?

Vampire looks nice, but really calls for head swap. GW, why every vampire looks like diseased zombie? You forgot main and oldest AoS vampire faction is supposed to be full of beautiful women? What happened to these?

Was browsing the GW site this morning looking for something to use my Warhammer plus voucher on...Anasta has answered that question. That Lt is very vanilla though.

Not entirely sold on the face and fangs, but the vampire is otherwise excellent.

Holsterguard lieutenant seems a waste of time.

I think GW outdone themselves with the vampire miniatures and this is no exception. Truly awesome miniature!!

Post by: Wha-Mu-077

It really is a shame they apparently picked the worst Vampire Lord sculpt out of all 6 or 7 they made for their official mini that's a permanent part of the range. Because this one is killer and i'd rather have this one and the bat-hair one to swap places.

Well last year we locked down in November and had only just come reeling out of the last lockdowns and a crazy summer. So yeah it was all bent out of shape last year. GW has more of a handle on things this year and even if things do lock down most companies can remain operational during a lockdown to some extent. So GW has far more scope to potentially weather things even if they'd cause disruption

I get the impression it might have been sculpted/worked on at the same time as the other releases but not given the green light due to it being inferior/boring in just about every way to its counterparts.

Good solution for an event mini then?

Even the vampire looks a bit 'off' compared to it's mainstream counterparts. Still solid compared to the marine though

It's definitely been kicking round the GW Studio for a while - there's a photo of it in the Ork Codex.

Nope. He looks like a trial version or alt sculpt for the Indomitus lieutenant and/or bladeguard.

Which is fine, in the theory of event special sculpts that don't really mean much. Its less fine given the lack of support non-marines are stuck with. Why not an alt-sculpt autarch or nob? Or whatever?

Almost all specials are something that didn't make it into the regular cycle.

When I saw the models in the newsletter I knew of course both were new, but without that context the lieutenant could have fooled me.

The vampire lord lady on the other hand is gorgeous. I haven't blown my Warhammer+ voucher on anything yet. This is as good an opportunity as it gets.

But sometimes, a model that was clearly intended to be a limited one makes it into the regular cycle - like the Firstborn BT Castellan.

Not going to watch it as what I want to be shown, surely won't be (New guard, specifically more DKoK kits). So I'll just catch the summary later in the day on WarCom.

Knowing my luck, We won't get Krieg but proper Primaris Terminators, which will be sods law after wanting them for so long, I won't be all that fussed as Krieg is the main priority....

Funny you should mention that. I haven't had as much fun with GW models in years as I do with the new Sisters.

But maybe I should stop being so helpful now.

The article quoted in the first post makes it sound like a single livestream on the actual day, so you're likely in luck. And the rest of us, too.

The marine is whatever, like 90% of marine releases it's technically correct and as inspired as tesco potatoes.

The vampire is intriguing, but I have no clue what's going on there. Armored hip armor and v-neck plate, but no leg armor, no armor on the abdomen and neck...I am not saying it's bad, I'm just confused as to what she's supposed to be. She's not sleek enough to be assasin-type, and not heavily armored enough to be a tank.

As others have said, the lieutenant is a bit meh, if only due to the exact same pose as the Indomitus captain.

Being undead is one thing, looking like FEC is another. Neferata and her servants are supposed to both pass as normal humans, not corpses, and be the most numerous, yet they got a big fat zero models in whole of AoS. I wish they got some love after mountain of literally whos from CC.

Honestly, it's either bone tube-top/tank top with straps hidden under the metal frill collar or she snagged her skin on something and just kept going and now she's half-peeled there.

GW hasn't really done much with the bloodlines since the Buffy von Carsteins in what, 7th ed Fantasy? And it took them five years to do any vampires for AoS. At least they're now back to doing different looks, even if for the time being it's just von Carsteins, Strigoi and the new wolf ones. It's not great, but it's a step in the right direction.

Frankly I think AoS is the wrong place to look for the traditional bloodlines now that The Old World is a thing. Let AoS be AoS and wait for the good stuff to come back with the old setting.

Yes, we know, but GW has not announced it so as far as they are concerned, the box does not exist "yet". In any case, my point was, that once the box gets an official announcement, it will be released within months of that said announcement. This is why the official announcements are a big deal, they almost guarantee a release within the business quartal the announcement is made in (or if made during the end of a Q, guarantee release during the next one).

I think they covered this in an old white dwarf. Vampires can pass for human, but once they are at war such pretences are dropped (there is no point pretending to be human when you are leading an army of undead monsters). As they become consumed by bloodlust/rage they revert to their 'true' self.
(Similar to Buffy, where vampires pass for human until their pop their fangs and go all bumpy head).

So Lahmian vampires might look different in a non-battle setting.... but then again so would virtually everyone else.

The vampire is simply great. I don't play... whatever the AOS army with vampires is called, but I'm still tempted to get that model.

Come to think of it, a lot of the vampire models have been pretty damn nice. Are there rules in Warcry or somesuch for them, so that I can just paint a couple of amazing vampire models and play with them, without having to paint seven thousand skeletons, zombies or other boring chaff?

The marine is nothing special. still a nice model though. I also feel that this 'holding the shield' pose works much better with this model than with the captain. I think it is the shield being smaller so the pose seems more natural.

Looks a bit strange though. The bat looks fine but is she holding it with a big claw? Probably just the picture/angle (or my eyes!). I do like that many of the new vampires have options like this, even if it's just an alternative hand.

Yeah, what's up with the left hand? From that angle it doesn't look like it has the same proportions as the right hand. That would be dodgy design if true.

I think it's meant to look like a mix between a bat and whatever that vampire-dragon hybrid character is. I'm all for having options, even though the fingers do look a bit weird.

Also kind of odd to have a dragon being cradled outside an order army. I thought Sigmar had the monopoly on living dragons

Warhammer Day 2021!(OP updated with previews! Event finished!) @ 2021/10/21 17:54:37

Post by: Overread

The Shadow Aelves were the original "dragon themed" or at least "draconic" themed army in the 2.0 rule book, but they've been slow in coming. I think Sigmar has a current handle on dragons, but I think that's lore that can easily be evolved as GW releases new models.

Heck Zombie dragons and shadow dragons have for a long while been the only full dragons in the setting outside of the wyverns that Orruks have. And only one of those is in Order and that's under the shattered remains of the dark elf forces.

AoS should be the Chaos tome with maybe a roadmap for the future thought I think if they do a roadmap it will be in a WarCom article.

Warcry will hopefully be the full showcase of the Red Harvest box.

Underworlds will be the first Warband. Could see the left or middle one as part of the pirate Warband

HH will probably be the leaked boxset.

40k should be the leaked Custodes vs Genestealer box. Maybe the right on is the Custodes Lieutnant?

Left I'm going to guess Updated White Lion Axeman....Because they need to be brought into AOS and he has an axe that is bigger than his elfish physique. Middle is Ogor, possibly mawtribe, but maybe they will catch us with Ogor city of Sigmar guy in MC Hammerpants. Charging marine with a sword on the right, Has a pet bird, so obvious Iron Man 2 reference to clue us into it being Ferrus Manus weilding Firebrand (Or whatever the name of the sword was that he gave to the Phoecian).

Ehh...maybe, maybe not.
The OG WarCry warbands were Chaos Adventuring Through the Realms, for all intents and purposes. We had the Flayed Face Gents(Shyish), Crazy Bird Folks(Ulgu), Savage Hunters(Ghur), Poisons From All the Plants For Everyone!(Ghyran), Totally Not Elves(Hysh), EVERYTHING'S ON FIRE!(Aqshy), Metal Feels Great(Chamon), and the Eightpoints Gang.

Slaves have been in an odd position for a while now - GW updated the chaos warriors and knights but only in the getting started set. They never followed through replacing warriors, chosen and knights outside of the starter set monopose options.

Marauders similarly were kept in the army despite the old models looking super dated compared to the warcry warbands - which are honestly visually far superior.

We also saw the separate god armies starting to get more mortals - even Slaanesh now has alternative "slaanesh chaos warriors and exalted warrior" options in the army.

The previous warbands were all very explicitly not adventuring through the realms but fighting it out in the wastes in the eightpoints outside the varantower or whatever its called. Frankly, they *are* Marauders any way you slice it, even moreso if they were chaos MARAUDING through the realms.

I said Chaos was adventuring through the realms, not the warbands.
Each of those warbands hailed from those realms. They made it to the Eightpoints, to try to get elevated into the Everchosen's horde.
Each of the warbands(barring Spire Tyrants) were designed to reflect the specific realm they came from.

Yes, sorry, that's what I meant. I wasn't clear.

Banana Boy, new GSC, whatever units they dare to give us (probably 2 per side, but the Ghaz/Ragnar box showed us that isn't always the case), and a small campaign book.

And that's your 40k preview! Maybe a teaser for an eventual teaser at the end though, just to frustrate us further.

Could see a little audio teaser that Tau are next but nothing more

As we would have finished the current roadmap after Custodes/GSC I could see them showing a new one together with the Darkstrider reveal for some kind of new years event wouldn't expect anything until then.
Would be funny at least as Shadowsun was also shown off at the new year event 2020

That animation project is for Tau, not Eldar. It's call The Exodite.

It's called The Exodite because it involves the Exodites. GW said they're keeping their design under wraps and only showing Tau that are also in the animation precisely because they haven't been depicted for a very long time.

You have to know that grainy picture is all that's available for that to work, I clicked in case there was a better one in the video or something. It's fine, just a throwaway remark.

Making a video - a 9 minute video no less - for one grainy photo is to me the definition of clickbait. You're incentivized to watch it because "look how long it is, there must be more than that one grainy picture, maybe he even has some leaked rules", but theres no reason for any of it. He could have just posted the photo on reddit or dakka or bolter and chainsword or his own website/blog, etc. but that wouldn't get him youtube revenue, would it?

Valrak is absolute clickbait. He waffles on to get into the time frame that he can ad revenue. Most of the time, every 5 rumour/reveal video's could be combined and still only need 5 minutes of video in terms of what is actually practical/relevant in terms of information.

Youtube video's are absolutely not time efficient ways to get your rumour fixes.

His lore related video's are even more of a shitshow as well... Mainly because his lore knowledge on a whole is poor.

They're "limited" for how long they'll remain in rotation for that season. The Crimson Court still have some (un)life left in them.

Additionally, they're in the army books now. That's why GW does the cardless releases as well.

Weird thing about the Nine card- that upper right symbol, the stylized '4'? That's not actually a 4. Its the astrological symbol for Jupiter (or at least a stylized version). The added dot isn't typical,
but I'm wondering if the artist was simply being careless and accidentally added a real symbol, or if there's some Tzeentchian literalism or symbolism going on there.

I mean, we've already had a third team with the Bright Crusaders, though they look to be out of stock of FW at present. And the Norse are a fourth human-based team when they rock up. Amazons give you a fifth.

Not sure where you go with a third Empire/human team, but there is the potential for teams from other areas - a Bretonnian team, with a mix of Knights and Peasants could be interesting (though might now step on the toes of the Empire Nobility team), or something Tilean.

It makes sense when you know why that's the astrological symbol for Jupiter. It's a stylised Greek letter 'zeta', representing the sound 'Z', from the name of the god Zeus (because Jupiter = Zeus Pater). And Tzeentch is also a god whose name starts with that sound.

Also, Jupiter in astrology is associated with fortune, exploration, business, knowledge and freedom. It is the ruler of the Ninth House. So, yeah. Tzeentch.

Did we ever get an official Bret team? I don't recall one, but I'm not claiming a perfect knowledge of the back catalogue here

Bret teams were never (GW) official; just for the Cyanide video game version in BB2. The roster was written by a guy in the BB Community and then adopted by the NAF for their tournaments etc. Khorne was also made for BB1 video game but GW are now making their own version with a different roster (albeit a similar concept; less deamons but still lots of Frenzy). The GW Imperial Noble Team is basically a direct (GW official) replacement for that Bretonnian Team as far as it stands; their rules are pretty similar with a few tweaks.

One of the SG designers has gone on record as saying he doesn't like something about Brets playing Blood Bowl as a concept and that they could just be covered by the original Human roster but we've since had blatant mention of them (along with Tilea and Estalia) in the newer version of the Deathzone book and there may be different guys in charge of BB in this edition so maybe they're exploring the idea now.

It wasn’t included in the rumour dump that’s been proven correct so far, as that was posted on Bolter and Chainsword and there’s no fantasy talk there. Any AoS rumours are a different thing.

No, two sets of rumors came out at the same time, one was 40k only, the other was a bit more far-reaching. Some people took both and cobined them into one big dump and circulated them together, but the only parts of it that have been demonstrated to be correct were the set of rumors that came from the 40k only source.

Here’s a copy of the AoS rumours they are from 4chan so they are questionable but they haven’t been proven or disproven yet mainly as there have been so many delays. A lot could be guess work based on things mentioned so far.

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2021/06/rumors-battletome-release-order-3-new.html?m=1

There were rumours going around last week that Warcry Red Harvest would have 3 Varanguard on foot as the opposition but GWs post on Monday debunked that fairly quickly. That rumour also mentioned Blades of Khorne as the next book and Nighthaunt in early 2022. But given part of it is already been disproven then it’s not looking like a solid rumour.

Warhammer Day 2021!(OP updated with previews! Event finished!) @ 2021/10/28 15:22:19

Post by: Kanluwen

Someone else can probably explain it better, but "Malice" is another Chaos deity that isn't part of the main pantheon. Supposed to be anarchy unbound or the like.

"11" is their sacred number apparently and their symbol is a black+white skull.

Here's what Lexicanum has:
Malice is an outcast Chaos God, representing anarchy incarnate. Other known names include The Renegade God, The Outcast, Hierarch of Anarchy and Terror, and The Lost. His symbol is a black and white skull.

Malice represents the Warp's Chaotic tendencies, and is notable for his hatred of the major Gods of Chaos: Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Slaanesh. Followers of Malice are prone to acts of anarchy, waging war upon not only the servants of the Imperium but also those of the other Gods of Chaos.

Unlike the primary Chaos Gods, Malice can be summoned directly to the Materium provided enough mortal sacrifices are given and he is given a body to Daemonically possess.

Followers of Malice unleash their wrath upon any they encounter, be they of the Imperium, Xenos, or fellow followers of Chaos. Captives are routinely ritually sacrificed.

Malice is the current incarnation of "Malal", an anti-Chaos Chaos God that GW was in a dispute about with its creators who worked for them at the time.

Actually that's quite common. One of the core parts of the stories behind the new Warcry Warbands is that many of them don't worship any of the Four core Chaos gods. They each have their own god(s). It symbolises that whilst Chaos is rife, its also not united. Now in reality each of those different gods is most typically a Greater Demon of one of the Four mascaraing as a different god or demi god. Which also means that your tribe could be praying to a Lord of Change only to get into a war and come out the other end worshipping a Greater Unclean one but not actually change their "god". It's stuff in the background - behind the scenes.

So there very much could be lords and champions claiming that they aren't blessed by any of the four great powers. They might well be telling the truth as whilst there are Five major Chaos Gods*, they are simple demons who are the most powerful within the warp; there are many others who are just weaker and not as powerful. Who might only have one mortal champion or who can only influence things on a smaller scale.

*Great Horned Rat is one now

Maybe? I mean I'd probably get them to have some actual Bretonnian models of any variety. I doubt GW would see that as a worthwhile release though. More likely that they'd get their own team rules, especially as that fluff piece suggests that only Knights, not Peasants are allowed to play the game so the Imperial Nobles roster wouldn't really reflect that well. I'd be happy to see them done with their own unique ruleset.

I think it was more that they didn't believe peasants would be allowed on the pitch in the fluff (which they were in the BB2 roster) and/or they felt that it undermined the 'generic' Human team's existence and function in the game. Don't take that verbatim though, just the impression I got; there may have been other (possibly even pertinent) reasons.

Squats were from the same source that has proven correct so far (they also leaked the full contents of the Krieg vs Ork Killteam box months before the official announcement). The misunderstanding is that the original poster split the new rumours across two separate threads on B&C to try and keep the conversation more focused. Someone on 4Chan then reposted one of the sets of rumours (the one with the squats) with a load of additional rumours which were proven to be false, this has led people to believe the entire set of rumours are false when they are partially part of the same set of rumours that have almost a 100% track record so far.

Once you get into branding there's a market for anything brand-aware. The key is that making "Tyranid Scent Candles" means taking your regular product; changing the image that is printed on the sticky label and then selling it. That Tyranid scent might also be "ZERG" for the Blizzard brand etc.... Basically super cheap branding.

GW is all about branding right now and they are clearly branching out and making contracts with firms. And sure I bet there is a fun market for stuff like that. People who like scent candles can now scent candle with their tiny bit of GW logo stuff on things. Same as coins, or clothes or mugs.

Dredflytte. It's AoS. You have to spell it right!

I don't see those coins as ogor-y, but I'm still in the ogor pirate camp.

I'm telling you, that treasure chest rumor engine has to be for a pirate maneater

The same thing that happened to the genestealer-grafting Vorgani dark eldar from the 8th edition codex: ignored for the next edition and not mentioned in the codex!

It looks stylized much the same as the Necromunda skullquila, in this case mashing together a skull and flames.

I don't think we have any faction from Aqshy that fits the pirate bill, but undead occasionally have spectral flames. Vampirates, ghost pirates or zombie pirates seems more likely to me than ogres if we base our guesses on the coins.

But yeah, that chest if I remember correctly looked so much like a paymaster chest that it would be odd not to be related to a mercenary unit or faction.

Maybe it's urgold and the flamey dwarfs take to the high seas at last!

We're in Ulgu, not Aqshy.

Ulgu has Misthavn, a literal pirate home.

The coins are generic coins (glory tokens) for the Underworlds game I wouldn't read anything into the design it just points to an Underworlds reveal with a nautical theme by the wording and map.

Warhammer day promotions - "special price" bundles

But that’s not all – look out for yet more Warhammer Day promotions this weekend on Games-Workshop.com, where we’ll have special prices on a range of sets to help get you started with new games

So based on the countdown, Warcry Red Harvest, blood bowl human team, Nurgle for AoS, and Ogre Warband for Underworlds seems what’s on the menu for tomorrow.

And there's going to be some Warhammer Day store offers - there's some terrain bundles up already on the UK site.

Specials look like a 30% reduction across the board, at least from a glance at the AU site. The Charadon terrain set would be tempting if I wanted the cardboard bits.

I'm not that familiar with the Charadon box or the thing that's bundled with it for this "deal."

Is the gist of it that you effectively get a couple of cardboard play surfaces for -X%?

If that's the case I'm gonna go ahead and assume that this sale only exists because nobody is interested in buying the expensive cardboard and GW has more stock sitting around than they want.

It's almost like a real, actual, genuine sale. Never thought I'd see that from GW. Even if it has an air of clearance about it.

Totally this. Looking at what’s on offer, it’s a stock clear-out for end of line stuff. The Underworlds sets, the Sigmar “launch box”, even the original AI box, all stuff that’s been sitting around for a while not shifting, and has to go. I’m not complaining - the Sigmar box is now cheaper than my usual online FLGS, and if I didn’t have a pre-pre-order in with them for the Killteam Sisters/Tau box this weekend, I’d be sorely tempted. But, hey, only so much in the hobby budget…

Not really, this is GW's new approach to big events to save their servers after last year.

The new Killteam box went up on the NZ and AUS sites about 20 minutes ago so the queue is in place for that more than the bundles.

The Mechanicus terrain has always confused me so I'm not that familiar myself, but looking at the individual boxes makes me think the inherent discount of the bundle box isn't just free cardboard boards but some of it is in the plastic terrain as well.

I don't think people are just put off by the included cardboard artificially increasing the price or decreasing the discount on the things people actually want from the box. While GW's terrain is certainly neat and plastic is always a selling point, GW has overinflated terrain price pretty considerable in recent years. Creating a board from GW terrain is not a cheap proposition and bundles these days tend to decrease the price of terrain from ridiculously expensive to just overly expensive. I think the last time we saw good terrain bundles was in the first year of the previous Kill Team edition. With such prices still in people's memories, the new prices are a hard sale even after a bundle discount.

Speaking of discounts, I just checked with my online retailer of choice and MSRP for the box should be 120€ and GW discounts it to 112€. Unless the former is an old price and there's been an MSRP increase in the meantime, it's not that great a deal especially when you put it next to the Warcy box or Dominion.

Me, too, but only for 15 seconds or so. I assume they timed the launch of the discount boxes so they could just leave the queue system on for pre-orders tomorrow. With the release of a new Kill Team box and time limited models, that would be one of those instances when on it's on.

GW has the weirdest discount system. Every other comapany is able to state the regular price, cross it out and give you the percentage you are saving. That is the 101 of discounting. I'm not angry, I'm just amazed that they are repeatedly unaware of anything anyone else does on the planet.

But then, it doesn't matter for me anyway. Only 9 items, and only one is remotely interesting for me. But I already have enough terrain (and pile of shame). I hope anyone else finds something intersting there.
