Welcome all to the 81th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds, ending in February next year.
This month, the theme is "Catch Me If You Can”. Whether through enhanced mobility, technology or just sheer speed, some combatants are just hard to pin down. Your entry should feature models capable of moving in a fast or unpredictable manner that gives them the upper hand in combat.
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of November and will end at midnight Eastern time on the 30th November. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Spoiler:
Myself, I’m going to try to finish both war walkers. If I get crazy, they’ll be running with the jetseer.
After Stargraving myself into submission over October, time to sweep past Necromunda again for an addition to my Van Saar gang.
Jetbike, counts as grav-cutter hoverboard stupid thingy:
I have printed a few of these things as my understanding of printing stuffs has increased, with wildly varying results! I'll paint several of them, and have some covered in tarpaulins, or terribly mauled as casualty models
(i really had no idea what I was doing on the rightmost pair...)
Entertainingly, if you print it as one piece there is no way to fit the riders legs over the saddle *smh*
Thankfully, the set comes with split left/right legs. I guess I'll heath robinson a van Saar torso on ther or something.
For millennia, the Inquisition has attempted to detain the entity known only as "Space Santa." Thus far, he has eluded capture. He is a known trafficker in contraband goods. He is somehow able to travel great distances in no time at all; he has been spotted, minutes apart, in different segmenta altogether. He is suspected of being an alien, described by some as "a right jolly old eldar." He is able to infiltrate buildings by entering through alchomite stacks and magmavents. How he survives this process is unknown.
Might try to get some stormboyz done, going to be a busy month like the last few have so not sure if I'll get them all done or not. Going to go the lazy route and do them in contrast paints, considering trying to mix up my color scheme (yellow and pink) to throw in some reds. Also considering switching from just using straight contrast green for skin, to doing an orruk flesh with contrast green w/ lamian medium.

Sometimes I look through my collection and think to myself "I am King Nerd. No other collector can compare." Then Pariah Press proves me wrong...
I have a few options for this month, but can't seem to decide. If you all could answer the poll in my P&M blog, I'd really appreciate it.

Honestly, if we are counting the collections of people who actually worked in GWs production management for a long time, I doubt any of us can compare.
I had fun doing October so I’ll jump in again with another of my greenstuff creations. Luckily I have one still unpainted that fits the theme.
The classic catch me if you can creature. A running rabbit.
So having been relying on my airbrush for base coating recently, just done a bunch of metallic base coating with a hairy brush. I had forgotten how dispiriting it is! Takes ages, metallics give a funny reflection making it harder to be sure you’ve covered everything, and it always looks like ass. Blerg!
Oh well it’s done now and hopefully the next steps will be more fun.
I’ve actually finished my rabbit so i thought maybe I’d add a couple of his mates.
I only just threw on the goblin green around the bases before I remembered to take a proof pic. Is that ok?
Flinty wrote: @Mr Nobody - that is a lovely dynamic sculpt… but what on earth is that thing on his face?
Artistic License (read minimal legal separation for distinction) XP
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm thinking about doing a Chaos Biker, but I only have the old cavalry base it came with. Not sure if I want to make a three bike squad on the old bases or hold off until I have a 3d printer and just redo the one I have built.

Is that a gingerbread man duel wielding bolt pistols? Sweet!
If you find the time to enter something yourself, you don’t need to give up your space for your daughter. We’ve had people enter family members before and are always glad to see the hobby spread to the next generation. Just let me know how she would like to be listed in the vote thread. If you just want to keep her painting under your name you can, it’s completely optional. But if you both end up entering, I’ll need something.

Some progress.
This model is pretty much done, but I'm trying to finish at least another buggy by the end of the month. I had three in the works in the proof pic after all..
So these are not to be considered the finished pictures just yet
Not a big fan of the model. Should have left it in parts to paint; I hate it when I can’t get a brush places. Should not be noticeable on the tabletop, bit I know. Not going to get to his buddy. He might show up in a later competition, or just slowly work his way across the workbench in the background while I do other things. I was used to Eldar vehicles just zipping across my paintbench in no time. But they are mostly smooth panels and clean lines.
We have about a week left to go until the month is over. So pick up the pace! Also start giving some thought to what you want to do next month. Open round, so anything goes (within the normal scope of the contest). Old projects, new hotness, last guys to finish off a project. Whatever you feel up to doing. Use this as an excuse to get some paint down.
Looks good Nevelon. Clean, simple lines. I like the metallic blue. Partial to that myself
Managed to get a few more layers down and the bikes are looking less like ass.
I think the red and the green one will go under tarps for scenery usage and the blue and purple ones will be used. Bonus points for guessing the colour scheme for the riders, who are currently on the primer turntable
Also these ones are supposed to look like ass and will most Definately end up as terrain

Well, I like it! What craftworld is that color scheme? I haven't played Eldar since 2nd edition.
Squighogs are done. There's no way I'm getting to the riders in time, so maybe they'll be Decembers entry. I'd like to get these based before the end of the month but we'll see how it goes. My first time using decals since I was like ten. I like the result though so I'll be using them from now on, especially for those stupid back plates on ork boys; this will remove a major pain point for me.
Good luck to all getting everything done in the next week or so!
I haven't done much for my entry, except deciding, which one I'll do It'll be the Man with no Fear, but he will be joined by the Green Goblin, so I hopefully can stage a chase scene when both are painted.
It’s never too later for a last minute entry. Nice to see more people tossing their hats into the ring.

Thanks. The starcannons are probably my favorite part of the model.

Nominally I call them Saim-Hann, and use their sigil. But I inverted the palette a bit, using black instead of white for most things, and swapping which is primary on models like guardians. So a lot of red vehicles (they go faster) but the troopers are mostly black armored with red helmets. My gallery I should check if i’ve painted enough of them in the comp to field a viable army. And get a new army shot one of these days.

I've been trying painting three of those for the past ten years, they look great but I loathe painting them. Great job all the same though!
Cranking out the flyers this week. Been getting some game time with these too and AI is surprisingly fun with a good learning curve. Have absolutely loads of flyers to do but will get at least a few done for the deadline. The bases are minis into themselves as well!
Another late entry.... my son chose the shokk jump dragsta as a Christmas present last year.... its November now and he hadn't even been convinced to finish building it... try him again in another year or two... but couldn't just leave it festering....did a bit of work under the bonnet to make it even fasterer....
Calling these done now. I'll probably base them at some point, but the models themselves don't technically need it
While loving the rules for grav-cutters, I feel the models are just ridiculous suicide machines. So I have now completed my slightly more believable suicide machines
An internet cookie for getting the reference, but the Vortices are now airborne! They have a couple of spares, and an earlier prototype that didn't... didn't work so well, shall we say... Lessons were learned...

Nice work Viterbi! Like how you took the theme to heart
Calling these done.
Won't be able to finish a third buggy this month, so two it is!
Here's the final pictures. I posted the "Megadrag Scrapjet" pics earlier, but I combined all of them under one picture.
Spoilered, as they are quite big.

Wooooooow… totally not the reference I was going for, but it also works. Works so well, so internet cookies all round!

Spoiler:
Looking damn good, Flinty - if you're going to base the flying ones, I'd suggest a really low base - just skimming above the ground - to still make sense in Zone Mortalis games.
Not the model I was hoping to get done for this month (I had wanted to get Baron Mordo from my Convocation roster painted for this), but still a solid back-up. Starlord, Legendary Outlaw, painted as part of a commission project that unfortunately burnt me out a bit near the end of the month (thus no painting was done hence Baron Mordo not getting completed in time).
Proof picture of half the commission project taken at the start of the month. Starlord is top right.
Completed model:

Space Santa has proved to be quite elusive, but Ordo Hereticus agents managed to snap three pict-captures of the malefactor has he prowled about the ice planet of Valhalla. He bellowed, shaking gelatinously, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!" Inquisition researchers suspect that this imprecation may be related to some sort of pre-Imperial cult practices of the thunder warriors of ancient Terra.

Always cool to see more MCP minis!
Likewise and sorry to hear the commission wasn't that fun. Always good to see more of them creeping up and your painting style lends itself perfectly for them!

Oh, don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the commission! But I was painting all of last month (the models in the proof pic were only half of the commission) and then the first 2 and a half-ish weeks of this month non-stop to get it done because AMG released Convocation and I also want to get them done by the end of the year for my own collection. I just ended up feeling burnt out so I took the last two weeks of the month to just reset and recharge.
Down to the wire folks! One more day to go. Get that last detail down and grab the camera. If you need a little more time, let me know. Otherwise this one will wrap and the Open Round will start tomorrow.
Enough calls for more time lets run with the extra day for starters. Barring more last minute requests, I’ll close this in the morning on the 2nd, my time.
If you want something more precise, I’m in Eastern time (New York) and usually do the competition updates over my morning coffee, so about 6:30-7:00 I know I hate time zone math.
Oof yeah thanks for the extra day, mostly finished with painting but bases need to be cleaned up and photos need to be taken, and it's late and those vampires are too darn fast to even get them into focus
A half-hearted effort from me, I'm afraid. Haven't painted anything that really fit the theme all month, so this afternoon I cranked out an ARC Trooper sporting a jetpack, which just about fits the bill. Very rough and ready paintjob, more of a proof of concept for any more Clones I may or may not do going forward.
My finished entry, I painted six minis but I'd be breaking the rules if I posted them so here are five Eldar flyers from Aeronautica Imperialis. They look better than how they play. As usual, big photos are spoilered for Nev to add to the voting thread. Great work from everyone so far!
Here are my Doomwheels.
I bought them off ebay and they are missing some pieces from the official kit. I'm working on some gs replacements, but it could be a minute. Also, I want to get some resin in the sewers. But, for all intents and purposes, they're done.
They look fantastic, Tyranid Horde - you've made me want to paint some now....if only I didn't already have a mountain of grey...
This is my entry for this month. The paint is all very quick, going for 'looks eye-catching at a glance as they speed past' kind of thing. I kinda wish I had a tiny bit more time to paint numbers on each model - I think it would have sold the concept better than just a chase scene.
That said, I had a lot of fun painting this. I think I enjoy the story as much as the painting these days.
I painted a Ravenwing biker for this month. Maybe not the best fit as they are usually doing the chasing/hunting rather than the other way round, but at least it is fast
Gonna need that extension, in the er for a kidney stone, too bruahgh to drop pics tonight.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I lied, not good pics, ended up taking new ones further down, opiods work:
Proof, an anteater theif and his owl lookout:
With mere seconds to spare, I did get my Squighogs done and posted before the end of November! 'Course I'll have to do the six riders for December's comp...
(Rare footage of a squighog stepping on a Lego):
This was my first time using decals, but I like them, so will be using more in the future.
Stitch, Teef, and Turbo are ready for the big Waaagh! Lots of good ork entries this month, 'Ere we go, 'Ere we go, 'Ere we go...
There are more pics in my gallery, with three models, it's hard to limit yourself to six pictures.

New comp is up! Open round, paint whatever makes your hearts sing.
I’m going to leave this one open for about 24 more hours. I’ll close it up with tomorrow’s coffee.
I preemptively added an extra day onto next month’s time, just so people don’t need to worry about being locked to the paint bench on New Year’s Eve. You can get the pictures and post them while hungover that Saturday.
I didn't think I'd manage to get anything entered this month, but the extension gave me just enough time to finish a very last-minute entry. Not my best work, but certainly some of my fastest. The colour scheme is based on the original box art, but it's really only an approximation.
