* Three Mierce Walrus Dudes. Assembled and primed. These will be Snow Trolls.

Plus, ALL NOO FOR 22:

Five chaos space marine bikers
One chaos lord biker

One space dorf land train (bought as a 3D print)
One space dorf drill vehicle (converted toy)
At least two squads of space dorfs

Areonautica Thunderhawk x1- build/paint (as SW)

Other than that there's around 25 assorted models for various Warcry bands - assembled, but not even base coated yet.
And another 50+ random figures (all manufacturers) in the misc. box.

Things will be deleted as I accomplish them.

As of March 1st? I've taken about 1 step forward (got some stuff built) & about 3 backwards as I'm now building/painting a Grot tank army....
So anything in this list looks like it won't be changing status for some time.

As of May 18th:
A few things got built.... Paintwise? I've got about 90 40k grots finished - 1/2 of wich don't really count as they're just crew for guns & are irrelevant for actual play....

July 9th:
Work continues on the Grot project.
And I now have a big box of Horus Heresy to get table ready asap. I've chosen Iron Warriors to help speed this project along.

The pile is big, so I have to list it by project instead.

Green for projects I would love to finish in 2022, orange for projects I want to work on and red for those that will likely stay untouched

Big projects (hundreds of unfinished minis or similar effort)
Fantasy - Empire Army of Ostermark
Fantasy - Skaven Skryre horde
Fantasy - Dwarf army - bought in 2021
40k - Tyranids
40k - 122nd Cadian
40k - Vogen city board - bought 2021 D-4 Manufactorium
FoW - Mid/Late war germans

Medium projects (20-100 remaining)
Fantasy - Kislev rota 1000pts army shot
Fantasy - The peoples crusade (empire fanatics)
Fantasy - The golden army (Dogs of war Myrmydians)
Fantasy - Karl Franz' 1st Armoured Engineer regiment
Fantasy - Norscan hordes 2000pts army shot
Fantasy - RPG monsters and heroes
Fantasy - Tomb kings Chariots
Fantasy - Mordheim Marienburg warband Current warband
40k - Vogen renegades Example Squad
40k - Vostroyan company - bought 2021
40k - Steel legion company - bought 2021
40k - Krieg company
40k - Ecclessiarchy battlegroup - bought 2021
Post apoc - Fallout heroes and villains
Team yankee - Soviet VDV battalion
FoW - Midwar Americans
FoW - Midwar Italians

Small projects (Less than 20 minis remaining)
40k - Night Lords warband - bought 2021
40k - Armoured company Action shot
40k - Imperial Fists strike force - bought 2021
Walking dead - Survivors and walkers

Would be nice if I was able to actually finish some projects, but knowing myself, my priorities will probably change several times during the year, and looking at all the additional armies I added in 2021, there might be some more additions. I find it very hard to resist good deals on middle/oldhammer armies in particular

Thanks for starting this again. Really helped last year!

Feeling like I might actually be able to get caught up this year. Long ways to go, easy to fail, but lets write it all down and see what we have to do:

High Priority Stuff:

Malifaux
- Misaki Crew
- English Ivan Crew
- Anya Crew
- All the new stuff releasing

Infinity
- Picked up a few new models to finish up O-12 but more or less complete!

A Song of Ice and Fire
- Kind of lost interest in this, but picked up the new Night's Watch heroes so I can have Coldhands and Sam and Gilly so I need to get them painted.

The Pile of So Much Shame:

Warmachine
- 2 Units of Iron Fang Pikemen
- A small set of Menoth stuff for Old Faith Theme
- A unit of Northkin and the Hooch Hauler
- Some various starter plastics I might sell
- A unit of Idrians I might just sell
- Random Circle stuff I should probably either finish or sell

Warhammer
- Sylvaneth Tress
- A couple Sisters/DW units I have no real use for
- My Knights army

Guild Ball
- Brewers Team

Upcoming Kickstarters:

Judgement
Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika
Monsterpocalypse.... soooooo much Monpoc

Things I'm tempted to start:

A Blood Bowl team
An Ork army

It would take me a year just to type out my pile.

My goal is to finish any 5 from a list of 10 or so major projects (most are about 1000 pts of leftovers from previous army painting pledges).
Leaving a flex slot open for when GW blindsides me with a must-have new side game again.

I also have too many models to lists so I'm focusing on ancients and medieval projects this year.

I have the following full projects:

Pontic (Almost done, just basing the last of them)
Scythians
Roman Slave Revolt
Gauls
Huns
Arabs (Which is about 3 times bigger than the others)
28mm Oathmark Humans, using fireforge crusaders

The following minors projects that don't need many models or are morphs of existing armies:

Fixes for existing armies (New editions need new minis)
Seleucid
Western Successors
Carthaginians

I also have "Leftovers", models unpainted as my army lists didn't need all the models in a box. Hopefully this won't become a project.

Post by: Tawnis

Well, my pile of shame is far too big to list everything, so I'm just going to put down what I think is achievable for 2022. (At least it's all built, if not painted. XD)

Remainder of my Tau Army that I didn't quite finish in 2021:
1 (of 2) XV8 Crisis Commanders.
3 (of 6) XV8 Crisis Battlesuits
10 (of 15) Pathfinders.
3 Stealth Suits
3 (of 6) Knarloc Riders
40 (of 60) Kroot Carnivores.
1 (of 2) Ethereals.
12ish (of 20ish) Drones.
1 (of 2) Cadre Fireblades.
4 (of 12) Kroot Hounds
1 (of 4) Kroot Shapers
Dahyak Grekh

I'm always passively whittling away at my massive Space Marine army and since I've basically stopped buying models for them, I am slowly making headway. I'll usually build a casual 1k point list from my shame pile and just focus on getting that painted up (last year I knocked off a Termi Librarian, Termi Chaplain, and 20 Terminators for a 1st company strike force), so for this year:
1 Phobos Lieutenant
10 Infiltrators
1 (of 2) Land Speeder Storms
3 Scout Bikers
1 Attack Bike
3 Eliminators
20 Scouts (That are just in need of a few finishing touches).

I've taken a similar stance to my Necrons (since the Indomitus box at least) and at least want to finish up some stuff from my pile that I started long ago and put on hold, even if I don't get the whole army done.
5 (of 6) Canoptek Wraiths
6 (of 20) Canoptek Scarab Swarms
12 (of 54) Green Rod Warriors (with 20 "done" that need some tweaks since I've updated the scheme slightly)
Technomancer and 2 Cryptothralls
9 (of 10) Lychguard

Beyond that, I think it's really going to depend of what strikes my fancy to play in 2022 and if I like the scheme for them I've come up with. On one hand, I'd like to get back to work on my Astra Militarum army, I've only got about 1/3rd of the my Infantry heavy force done. On the other, I'm still playing around with my schemes for my Death Guard and Tyranids and can't quite get them to look just right, perhaps I'll take them on if I can solve that. I suppose I'll just have to jump off that bridge when I come to it.

It has begun! I have started painting for 2022.

First thing I finished was a Nativity scene for a gift. Better late than never!

Busted out the new Orange30 Resin Printer and gave it a whirl too. I was pretty nervous about using it, as I am not a technical type and have no real idea what I am doing. However, I found some 1/1200 Greek Triremes from Capt Ahab, and gave those a whirl as my first prints. Eventually, I will need about 50 for games of Poseidon's Warriors to compliment my Victrix Greek land forcesin land/naval campaigns. Here is a start!

I also have my Wargame Atlantic Dark Age Irish and my Tumbling Dice aircraft in route. This could be a great year!

Right, what's on my pile:

Thousand Sons
5x Rubrics to finish off
1x Scarab to finish off.
Around 10x Pink/Blue Horrors which need doing.

Tau
10x Fire Warriors
3x Converted XV15s
1x Commander
1x Heavily converted Stormsurge

Also have another Commander, a Broadside and a Hammerhead in the post

Airfix
2x 1/48 EE Lightnings
1/48 BAC TSR-2
1/48 Gloster Meteor
1/72 DeHavilland Vampire
1/72 Jet Provost
1/72 F-15
1/72 Mitsubishi Zero
1/72 Mustang
1/72 Boulton Defiant

I did splurge a little on the 1/72 kits over Christmas. When they're only around £10 each it's nice to pick up a variety.

Also got a special project for my fiance's birthday; since she's getting into D&D I had HeroForge make up a figure of her. Arrived today and looks pretty decent, so got just under 2 weeks to get that painted.

Man I did manage to get a bunch done last year. More then the year before actually but looking back on it the vast majority was terrain. I only made a minor dent in my pile and, overall, added to it.

So going to buckle down and try to get at least one army done or at the very least one project in my backlog done.

So I'm going to either:

1. Complete 1000pts of Stormcast
2. Finish painting my Conan boardgame

Those are the main projects I want done this year. Anything else beyond that will be a bonus.

I've got basically an actual mountain of shame (piles are rookie numbers) and there's no way I'm going to make more than a slight dent in it in a year, so I'll just list some of the highlights of what I've got sitting around:
Warhammer 40k:
Over a dozen Ravenwing bikers, plus Outriders, ATVs, and vehicles. Hoping to get at least a few of these done.
A bunch of Deathwing Terminators. These will probably have priority over the aforementioned Ravenwing due to being more needed for competitive DA lists.
Most of the Indomitus Space Marines. One of my main goals for the year is to finish knocking these out.
Lots of Firstborn Dark Angels. As in Tactical, Assault, and Devastator units, plus their transports. Very low priority, won't happen this year.
Space Wolves. As in, a pretty fair sized army of them, many of which are still on sprues. I'm planning to have a full competitive list of them painted by the end of the year.
Sisters of Battle vehicles. A couple of Rhinos that are basically minimal paint standard for events, plus some Mortifiers and Morvenn Vahl in the same condition, plus a primed Exorcist. Not a huge priority currently but I might at least try to squeeze Vahl in.
Some random Sisters infantry and characters. Low priority since most of it is not very competitive.
The Triumph of Saint Katherine: Still bare plastic and in subassemblies; might get painted this year, might not.
3 Questoris-class Knights, 2 (probably recast) Cerastus Knight-Castigators and 4 Armigers. One of the big guys is actually my Khorne Knight, who is getting a new paint job and removal of all the Chaos-y bits since I no longer play Chaos (don't really want to part with the model). These are not a huge priority, but I might try to sneak one or two of them in, especially if a new Knights codex drops and is fairly strong.
A bunch of Wargames Atlantic Les Grognards infantry. Low priority for now; could get bumped up if Astra Militarum become strong.
2 Leman Russ tanks and a Valkyrie. See above with the Grognards infantry. Might even get some 3D printed reinforcements...
Japanese-themed Drukhari proxy army. 3D printed; planning to print a bunch more for it to make it a full proper army; not sure how quick I can get it painted, my year is already pretty full as it is.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar:
5k points of Stormcast Eternals. I hope to at least get some of these painted this year, but I'm unlikely to do more than that unless I get a bunch of games in and attend an AoS event (as I said, not very likely).
Middle-Earth:
Minas Tirith: Started painting a few infantry last year, didn't finish them. Got plenty of infantry and heroes, plus some cavalry. I'm hoping to get at least some of this painted.
Rohan: I've got the models from the Pelennor Fields starter, but none of them are even primed at this point. I'd like to paint them, but we'll see if I have time.
Lothlorien: I've got Wood Elves, a few Galadhrim, and a handful of heroes (including 3 different Haldir sculpts). I'd love to paint these, but sadly other projects are unlikely to leave me time to do anything with these.
Khazad-dum: I really need to add a few things to this army to get it properly playable, but I do have some stuff that needs paint. Probably won't happen this year.
Mordor: Pelennor Fields stuff, plus a few reinforcements (like Warg riders). Low priority, but might get bumped up if I can get some local interest in the game going.
Easterlings: Some infantry and characters need paint. I'd like to add more infantry and more cavalry to the army, but it's not a priority right now.
Other stuff:
Infinity: I've got the contents of the Red Veil starter set, plus the Beyond Red Veil expansion box. Low priority for painting this year.
Guildball: Kickoff box, plus a starter of the Blacksmiths' Guild team. Low priority for paint despite the fact that I think I'd have fun with the models.
Ankh: Gods of Egypt: Picked up the Kickstarter edition at my FLGS late last year, plus all of the expansions. I hope to at least get started on painting the models this year, but we'll see if I can find time.
Blackstone Fortress: I still have the game kicking around, and most of the models have not yet been painted. I probably won't get around to them this year.
Star Fleet Battles: I have the heavy cruisers from most of the races, and a couple of them are partially painted. I'd like to get those finished and put some paint on more of them this year if possible.
Star Saga: Probably won't get paint this year; might actually get sold if I can find someone who wants it.
Aliens: Another Glorious Day In The Corps: Have the main game plus expansions, started painting some of the heroes last year and haven't touched it since. Might happen this year, might not.
Primal: The Awakening: Kickstarter that will hopefully be fulfilled later this year (already been delayed once). If it arrives at a good time, I hope to at least start painting the models from it this year.

As you can see, there's enough here that even if I didn't buy a single thing for five years, I'd likely still have a pile of shame. Oh well, no use crying about it. I'd best just get painting!

My goal for 2022 is to clear the backlog almost entirely, but there's stuff in there I've let languish for years.

By system, these are my plans:
Malifaux- Paint up Yan Lo (in progress as part of local slow grow), Nightmare Colette and McMourning crews plus the new Master boxes for my crews as they release. Fairly realistic all things considered, they're all only a good couple weeks' effort
Batman- I'm fully painted here (except for 3 Black Friday models still on the way), but I know there will be models that release that I'll buy and so I want to remain fully painted
The Other Side- base my army then it can sit in the knowledge that it's finished
Terrain- I've been gifted most of a Malifaux table now and I've got a friend printing some scatter pieces for use for Batman/Fallout and Bushido/Malifaux so I'm really quite set on this front once I paint up the small bits and pieces of scatter.
Bolt Action- The real shameful one, I haven't touched it other than to add to it in years. It really needs paint and I worked out a speed painting recipe last year, I just have to find the motivation to do it.

4 projects on the table ATM.

Adeptus Arbites
The army is long done, but it's just fun. Still have some Necro Enforcers and the Orlock Doggies and Jumping Idiots set to add to the precinct.

Field Police
Law Enforcement themed Marines, done mostly out of inventory from my bitz box. Built, need lots of painting.

Death Guard
My second 40k army bring redone with new plastics.

Space Port Letham
Civilians and space ships as a fun project for random models.

I bought 35 models last year and painted 84. I'm now down to owning about 19 unbuilt/unpainted models, which I continue to work on.

Realistically, I don't think I'll get as much done this year - it's going to be a busy one in my personal life. So I'm not going to be buying too much.

My resolution last year to only buy stuff new that I was planning to immediately paint held up pretty well and I think was largely responsible for helping shrink the pile of shame and prevent adding too much to it along the way.

We're in the second week of January and I painted this Lamenter plus an inquisitor, and on to a vampire lord on zombie dragon conversion.

Spoiler:

I had a very productive weekend, painting several Tumbling Dice 1/600 aircraft and printed Greek Triremes. That gives me about 40 models done, and half of my Korean Air Forces models complete.

I've completed my Pontic army and have worked out what I need to paint to keep up with the new edition:

Sarmatians and Bactrian Lancers
Macedonian Pikemen
Asavaran Armoured Horse Archers
Dailami Infantry

So far this I've painted 16 Infantry, 9 cavalry, and 2 chariots. As well as 32 Infantry started last year but finished this year.

Got a good start on the year, cleared out pretty much all of my fantasy chaos bits box to get 5 units of javelin throwing marauders. 36 minis total, and a nice bite into the Norscan army project.

And finished my very elite Night Lords warband, just got to sell an extra hellbrute to totally clear that project:

Right here goes.....
Zombie Dragon.(this is pretty daunting).
Mounted Vampire Lord.
Knight of Shrouds on Etheral Steed.
Spirit Torment.
Guardian of Souls.
Master of Possessions.
Daemon Prince
SkullTaker
Skulltaker on Juggernaught.
Terminator Captain.
Commisar Lord.
SM Masters of the Chapter x 3.
1 Crypt Flayer.
5 Custodian Guard.
Stormcast Knight Incantor.
Stormcast Castigators and Gryph Hound
PoxWalkers x5.
5 Stormcast Sequitors.

I need to base what feels like a ton of Nighthaunts.

I have to concur, I dig those Night Lords.

I finished three Venerable Dreadnoughts this morning, and it's probably going to take a while before the next thing gets done because A) the lion's share of my Farrow arrived yesterday and assembling those takes precedent over everything else and B) I think I'm going to do another round or two of proper basing before I put another painting project on the table. I've been slow on that and it wouldn't take that long if I knuckled down on it.

In 2021, I painted about half of my goals that I set out in the Pile of Shame thread, knocking out the rest of the Primaris, the last bits of Tau, about 55 Grey Knights, and then roughly half of the High Elf army I bought less than a week into the year. I also painted some Eldar that had been hanging around for a long time. I then starting trading for metal Sisters, and by the end of the year had bought about 7000 points of sisters, with about 4000 points painted. I then added some 3rd edition Tau and Eldar that my mother literally garbage picked, and another 20 metal GK Strike Marines. So, on the whole, I spent more than I planned, didn't dent my backlog as much as I'd have liked, but did paint about 500 miniatures.

As is now quickly becoming tradition, I went to the January Swap Meet up in Atlanta, and walked out with amazing deals on more IG and a good start to a modern Ork army. YOLO, I guess.

So that makes my Pile of shame as follows:

Bought in 2022:
3 Chimeras
3 LRBT
2x Valkyrie
Baneblade
Sentinel
Hydra

Wartrike
4x New Buggies
Ghaz
3x Mega nobz
20 Grots
3x Squig riders plus Nob
10x Beastsnaggas

Dominion Kruleboys half plus 10 more boys and 3 bolts

Bought in 2021
75 Metal Sisters
6 Immolators
20 PAGKs
3 Razorbacks

3 Predators
3 Dreadnoughts

5 Silver Helms
20 Swordmasters
20 White Lions
5 Ellyrian Reavers
5 Dragon Princes
4 bolt throwers
Dragon
2 Chariots
~10 characters

Long term Pile
Dreadknight
30 GK Terminators
25 PAGK

~40 Eldar Aspects
15 Wraithgurd
6 Warwalkers
Falcon
8 Jetbikes

Obviously this won't all get done this year, as the above doens't include the garbagehammer armies, and a ton of stuff I know I've forgotten. Still, my goal is to finish the Sisters and Grey Knights, then finish the Tau and make a big dent in my eldar. We'll see how it goes!

I'm doing something drastic this year, or at least I'll try.

I'm in the middle of finishing a lizardmen army for Fantasy, after which I will start getting rid of anything that isn't related to it, my other fantasy army or my couple of Blood Bowl teams and Mordheim gangs. This is a large collection stretching back to my childhood that has started to loom over me with all its unfulfilled dreams that I think I would be better off without. It has been taking up serious space both in home and mind.

The little bit scary thing? It's going fast. I started building a new box of saurus warriors this weekend and expected painting them to take a week. Took not even two days, now they're almost done. I'm spending almost every single free moment at the painting table and I think I'll be close to finished with everything in about two weeks if I keep this up.

I want to be done with it. There's something burning within that tells me to just keep working on it but will I be ready for what comes after?

Anyway, here's the list of what still needs doing.

20 Saurus (almost done)
6 Saurus cavalry (almost done)
24 Skinks
6 Skink cold one riders
1 Salamander pack
2 Skink priests
2 Skink chiefs
6 Jungle swarms
6 Chameleon skinks
1 Stegadon which needs some engineer work to magnetize between a normal stegadon and lord Mazdamundi

Now, back to those saurus...

I finished off another dozen Hormagaunts over lunch today, that leaves only the scratch built Toxicrene in the 'nid collection.

I got a little sidetracked painting Lord Carver, Esq., but it doesn't count until I get those last few bandoliers finished.

Edit: and now Lord Carver is done as well.

After that I need to catch up on some new Infinity and Song of Ice and Fire purchases. Then I think I'm going to dive into the deep end and take on some of the Warmachine stuff that's been sitting FAR too long.

I finished my leftovers up to the Asavaran. However new working hours have greatly reduced my painting time, and I've had to put the Oathmark army ahead in the queue. I'm using it as a test army for my newly gained contrast paints. Unfortunately I also decided to buy a bunch of heroes, monsters, and extra infantry to go with it.

Sarmatians and Bactrian Lancers
Macedonian Pikemen
Asavaran Armoured Horse Archers

Oathmark:
6 Mounted Xbow
20 Foot Knights
12 Knights

3 Ogres
20 Xbows
Rest of army

Previous Plan:
Dailami Infantry
More 15mm Ancients

So far this I've painted 48 Infantry, 39 cavalry, and 2 chariots. As well as 32 Infantry started last year but finished this year.
Purchased 48 Infantry, 4 Monsters, 7 Foot characters, 2 Mounted characters.

I've really tried to slim down my pile of shame over the last year but still have quite a lot.. although have got off to a good start and finished one already!
- Space Hulk: Finish painting 1st edition set Marines and Genestealers
- Finish painting D&D characters for our D&D group
- Finish painting Fallout Raider gang + some terrain
- Great big pile of Epic for 30k/Great Crusade Project: Orks (finish off a couple of Clans + other stuff) and World Eaters
- Adeptus Titanicus Titans and Gargants for the above.
- Get cracking with Star Wars Legions Droid army (only done 1 unit, want to get a minimum possible force)
- Finish Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps expansion set miniatures
- Paint entire A Song of Ice and Fire Stark & Lannister starter set! (Oh er!)

Writing this I definitely don't need to buy any more

I did splurge a little on the 1/72 kits over Christmas. When they're only around £10 each it's nice to pick up a variety.

That 1/48 TSR will be a great project and a half!

I have the 1/72 Airfix EE Lightning which is meant to be a really good kit, looking forward to building it.

Caught back up on Marvel. I've got a few models trickling in from Infinity, Bushido, and Malifaux I'll need to paint, but that's not really the pile. Time to reorganize and decide what to tackle next:

Guild Ball
- A few alchemists I picked up to round out the team.
- Brewers. Full team to paint. Tempted to sell, but... I should probably just do this next and have them done.

Age of Sigmar
- Some Sylvaneth forests that were supposed to be commissioned by I'm probably just going to have to get back and do myself.

40k
- 22 assorted Deathwatch Marines that I don't REALLY need but should get off the backlog.
- 2 Questoris and 2 Armiger Knights
- Draigo for my unplayable Grey Knights
- 14 Sisters of Battle

Warmachine/Hordes
- A few Menoth models for the Khador theme
- 2 units of Iron Fang Pikemen
- A unit of Idrians
- Trollblood half of the 2 player starter
- A unit of Northkin Raiders and Hooch Hauler
- Random Circle stuff

... Also one random MonPoc monster to finish

A lot of this sits in a weird gap of stuff I'll probably never play but don't really have a good way to get rid of either. I'm overall down hundreds of models in the backlog and I just need to buckle down and finish. Part of me wants to wipe Guild Ball off the list entirely, but I should probably do the Northkin stuff next. They're one of the few things I have ZERO plan to ever sell.

Finished painting the Alchemists. Wasn't ever going to sell this little part and they were a pretty quick project all and all. Also decided to test out color shift paints on that Monpoc figure. Nearly done, probably going to try adding another coat... maybe not, we'll see.

I've got a ton of new stuff coming for Malifaux that will be the bulk of my March work. While I wait for it to arrive I'm just taking care of a few 40k HQs to keep chipping away.

Well, February was fairly productive - 33 Necron models completed, getting that army off to a decent start.

Spoiler:

Royal Warden, Plasmancer, 2 Cryptothralls, 9 Canoptek Scarab Swarm bases, 20 Necron Warriors

On the other hand, this is offset by getting some cheap Necron reinforcements via Imperium issues from Forbidden Planet (10 Warriors, 3 Scarab Swarms, 1 Cryptek) and an order of stuff from GW...

Used a little of the money to get a tank, dreadnought and captain for my Lamenters.

Started on the ten skeleton warriors that will get me to more painted than bought.

Also bought and assembled some terrain, I'm going to paint that on the side this year.

I finished a Road Hog, Gun Boar, Splatter Boar, and two Razor Boars.

I also assembled and base-coated ten AOS Heart Renders to use as Slanneshi Furies, 12 Termagaunts (since what I had no longer made sense with the new rules), three Tyranid Warriors, a Tyrannofex, five Assault Terminators, a War Hog, two Eferrit Scouts, Lanyssa, a squad of three Valkyries, and a scratch-built Bone Shrine, and re-armed my Tyranid Prime since it's loadout no longer made sense either.

The Other Side arrived faster than expected, but I got it painted up surprisingly fast. Now I'm actively on the backlog again and about halfway through my unpainted Trollbloods. Next up I'm aiming for the other half along with a few Circle models that will put me under a hundred unpainted models for the first time in.... I have no idea really. Congratulations on the half-way mark.

I finished up the first squad of Valkyries, Agata, Queen of Carnage, and the Farrow Sapper this afternoon.

I'm pretty sure I got something else assembled and base coated but it's escaping me at the moment. [Edit] I remember now, I spent a bunch of time rooting around in my bit box to scratch up a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield for one of my Vanguard Vets, he now has a shield made from the head of a Carnifex. I also found enough painted arms to swap out the weapons on some of my standard Marines without repainting anything, so I have another Stormbolter and Chainsword Sergeant and some more Plasmaguns and Meltaguns.

The Other Side arrived faster than expected, but I got it painted up surprisingly fast. Now I'm actively on the backlog again and about halfway through my unpainted Trollbloods. Loving this thread to keep me motivated though.

Finished over half of my unpainted trolls. Didn't have time to prime so a switched to some Khador stuff I had ready to go and I'm about a third of the way through that. More importantly, I FINALLY got the count under 100 unpainted minis. Feels like I'm in the home stretch. Really pushing to get truly caught up for the first time since.... probably ever.

So, negative progress this week.

I finished an Assault Terminator squad yesterday that I'd been procrastinating on basing for several days.

The reason for that procrastination is that the Heresy teasers prompted me to pull the trigger on a few Firstborn projects, as I suspect the new beakies will push the existing 40k Firstborn line out of production.

With that in mind I put together 10 Vanguard Vets, 10 Devastators, 5 Sternguard, 13 assorted Sergeants and special weapon Marines, a jump pack Librarian, a jump pack Chaplain, and a Gravis Captain with twin fists. That project kind of snowballed on me.

And the Parasite of Miorax came out this week.

Finally managed to sell my "sell pile" that has been in a box for a couple of years. That cleaned out all my unfinished war machine minis and a big bunch of other stuff.

Moving to a new house in a few months, so everything is already packed, slowing progress on the pile. Got a hankering to make terrain though, so might have to dig out some stuff to keep progressing on my city table while I wait for the move

My process for painting Farrow skin involves mixing really small batches of several shades of brown, and in an effort to waste less paint I decided to do all seven unpainted Warlocks in a single batch, plus Kalyssa since Arkadius is in there and I have no other human-ish skin to paint.

Four [censored] weeks later...

To be fair the models weren't the only thing I had going on in that time frame, I also got fence put up to plant a garden and built a Firestrike with Sentinal legs (which turns out to be a very popular conversion).

I finished painting 10 Martian Cadaver Troop models or so for Under the Martian Yoke that I had kit-bashed earlier.

Backlog still at 0.

Then, I got a note from Victrix stating that they are planning to increase their prices by 10% June 1st, so I did the only sensible thing a purchased a large Persian army! About 125 new models on their way! Thankfully, that was one of my 4 goals to get painted this year.

Painted up some Warmachine stuff, now to see how it ports over. Back on finishing my Deathwatch and then a Knight army.

Somewhere in there I'll work in the new Gencon releases. Picked up the Kttsune for Bushido and that new Khador Battlegroup.

It feels very good to be in a place where a couple purchases can nearly double my backlog rather than barely budge it.

I used to post pictures, but trying to read the thread when there are pics that aren't hidden inside spoilers is tough on my phone so I fell out of the habit.

That said, finished that Soul Grinder:

Admittedly I might have sped through it more than usual since I got a game in with the 9th ed codex and now I'm leaning toward selling the whole army.

I'm basically treading water at best.
I haven't really made any progress on anything in my initial post.
Meanwhile more minis have come into my forces/hoard & some have been painted. About a 3:1 ratio....

As for painting 1 more mini than last year?
When I get the stuff from the HH box finished I'll be at +3 vs last year.

Check out onepagerules instead for 40k fix if you are getting burned out on 9th. Much smoother and quicker gameplay. Support for all 40k armies, and points calculator to make your own units. It is so nice to just build and paint stuff you like the look of instead of chasing the GW meta.

The problem with OnePageRules is that it looks at GWs clunky, complex rules writing and decides that the complexity is the problem and the answer is to strip it out. I'm a huge fan of Warmachine so I think the problem isn't that the system is complex but rather where that complexity expresses itself.

Warmachine is even more complex, but that complexity is expressed in on-the-table tactical decision making. 40k's complexity comes out in list building and mechanical operations, but the decision tree is never all that complicated. In Warmachine a good player can pick a list by throwing darts and reliably beat a tuned tournament list in the hands of a mediocre player. You don't see that much in 40k, and OnePageRules is even worse from what I've seen.

Besides, I'm just looking at selling the Daemons off because the new codex stripped out everything I liked in the old one. I still own 'nids and Marines, and with Warmachine kinda sorta picking back up locally I can't justify holding on to a tertiary 40k army.

Pile of Shame 2022: Weird Sequel Name Boogaloo @ 2022/09/06 12:24:50

Post by: Ian Sturrock

Try F28: War Always Changes, rather than OPR. F28 gets rid of complexity very precisely, where we don't need it, but gives richer tactics than 40K instead, with a detailed Reactions system. All major factions supported.

I've made huge progress in painting, this year, so far, thanks to a couple of long hobbystreaks... but my priorities have shifted somewhat so I've not necessarily addressed the list I have here very effectively! Ah well...

Everyone has there favorite, but suffice to say if you are burned out of 40k that there are literally 100's of alternate rules out there that work just fine with the models.

Go to the Wargame Vault or Freewargames Wiki to see a whole new world of options.

Edit: Oh yeah, Labor day weekend was productive with finishing a couple stand-alone minis and good progress on 20 more Persians!

Terrain is a nice change of pace if you use techniques like oil-washes, zenithal base coating etc. Then it is very free-flowing and quick compared to painting minis.

Been a while since I've updated, but I've still done a decent amount of painting although at a slower speed than before. Our club lost interest in Oathmark for a bit so I've put my ancients back on the table and have been splitting my time between them and fantasy. Currently over half way through Scythians.

Done:
Spoiler:

Ancients:
Sarmatians and Bactrian Lancers
Macedonian Pikemen
Asavaran Armoured Horse Archers
24 Dailami Infantry
24 Scythian Light Horse
12 Scythian Nobles
16 Persian Foot Archers
24 Scythians Infantry

Oathmark:
6 Mounted Xbow
20 Foot Knights
12 Knights
3 Ogres
40 Xbows
3 Witches
1 Princess
1 Dragon
2 Catapults
30 Spearmen
30 Soldiers
20 Elven Archers
6 Cavalry

To be done:
Spoiler:

Ancients:
Scythian Generals
Scythian Medium Horse
Scythian Wagons/Camp

Fantasy
1.5 Heroes with mounted and foot options
2 Champions
1 Elf Champion
3 Ogres

So far this I've painted 232 Infantry, 81 cavalry, 1 Character, 4 Monsters, 2 Catapults and 2 chariots. As well as 32 Infantry started last year but finished this year.
Purchased 68 Infantry, 5 Cavalry, 7 Monsters, 2 Catapults, 10 Foot characters, 3 Mounted characters.

Just cleared the Indomitus Box. Painted them up as Black Templar. Figure they will be fun to run a Crusade army. Picked up Brayard's Revenge for the Emperor's Champion. Figure I can use the captain as my Sergeant who had the Feast. Figure I will need to get a Crusader Squad but I painted both of the Primaris starter sets as Templar (Necrons and Death Guard boxes). The last thing I have to complete them is decals.

Items left in my queue:
HH - Dark Angels
10 Lascannon Devastators,
Contemptor Dreadnought
10 terminators (both Tartarus and Cataphractii)
Sicaran
Rhino

AoS - Slaves to Darkness
10 Warriors (details and bases)
5 Knights (bases)
Karkadrak (base)
10 Chosen
1 special edition Chaos Lord)

@Boyd and @DuracellRabit that's fantastic progress.

Finished some Bone Grinders this morning. They took several days longer than they should have because I was cleaning the unused bits off the Chaos Knight and wardog sprues and the "...there's two more wardogs here if I add a few things from the bits box" though got the better of me.

I've made some progress but am pretty behind schedule on fantasy, largely due to a lack of interest -- we've been playing primarily F28: War Always Changes, this year, so it's been SF all the way.

Anyway -- apart from all my planned stuff I've made a fair bit of terrain and other bits and pieces, but here's an update:

KoW Northern Alliance army. Very little further progress on the planned 1500 pt army; just a bit of work on the Blood Rage Viking minis.

For F28:
Five chaos space marine bikers
One chaos lord biker
-- these are built, undercoated, and have the main armour panels painted and shaded.

One space dorf airship (converted toy)
-- this is mostly built but I'm still wrapping my head round some of the more complex aspects.

One space dorf land train (bought as a 3D print)
-- built, primed, and painted.

One space dorf drill vehicle (converted toy)
-- conversion finished, primed, and painted

At least two squads of space dorfs
-- a lot more than two squads built and primed, and a fair few more finished other than basing.

At some point I may even upload pics to my painting & modelling blog, ya never know.

Update with just a few days to go...

KoW Northern Alliance army. Very little further progress on the planned 1500 pt army; just a bit of work on the Blood Rage Viking minis, and some repairs.

For F28:
Five chaos space marine bikers
One chaos lord biker
-- very nearly finished

One space dorf airship (converted toy)
-- this is mostly built but I'm still wrapping my head round some of the more complex aspects.

One space dorf land train (bought as a 3D print)
-- built, primed, and painted (and in the pic below).

One space dorf drill vehicle (converted toy)
-- conversion finished, primed, and painted (and in the pic below).

At least two squads of space dorfs
-- a lot more than two squads built and primed, and a fair few more finished other than basing (and in the pic below).

Space dwarf army so far is below -- more detailed pics on my P&M blog.

I made a new thread for this year: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/808270.page

And, I did finally finish my six chaos bikers late last year --

Yay, I didn't have to start it this year!

Also, congrats on sliding one more finished unit in under the wire.
