The lady is looking mighty fine so far, might need some Daz to get those whites clean mind you.
Great to spend the time with the kids, needs to be done, I know you probably did not have much choice, but it is still always worth it. They soon grow up a bit and disappear, even when they are in the same room!
Good to see you getting in some games still too, busy busy boy.
Thanks very much indeed, and you're quite right, hadn't finished John's tie:

And the whole JLD:
Got the Sirens started, and my remaining Street Wars built too:
JDL looks great, the whites look nice and bright now especially when she is in the group photo. Your painting style is so very different Graven and I mean that as the highest compliment it is truly your own. Wonder Woman

Constantine
Etrigan

well there's time I guess. I am tempted to do something with Wonderland, actually, because Mad Hatter can upgrade goons with various Alice themed motifs. Might happen at some point.
And thanks!
Not much done today. A bit of hand priming:
Can't believe I used the last of my km tile bases on these... And this guy:
I've also primed Atrocitus, pic at some point.
And proof that I'm working on sirens:
Ivy will be in her Cycle of Life and Death outfit, black bodysuit with green ivy, green bodice, white shirt. Catwoman is going to get a verdigris statue.
Kids are going pretty crazy, me and number 2 really grating on each other. Went a giant walk with the offspring to the massive hill in one of the local parks. Might as well enjoy being Snowbound.
On to Harleys next...
Just blocking in colours. Left to right: GothamSirens Harley, Arkham Knight Harley (the one that disappeared down my sink overflow, if you remember, which I reference on her base) and Nurse Harley (Malifaux fig) just cos there aren't enough Harleys Later

Cheers; I'm just glad the Malifaux Nurse fits so well aesthetically, wasn't sure about it at first. And yeah, it's important to be able to take the piss out of yourself, after all.
Lots of digging of paths etc, and a trip to The Greatest Showman (decent).
But, in news that matters:
Laid down the base blue and ochres for my remaining street wars.
These guys should really be my priority. Getting a Demo from the designer Tuesday, really looking forward to it, and picking up the unreleased figs (modelled on The Warriors) at the same time.
Also working on Zurr-en-Arrh, red and yellow nearly there, blocking on purples/ lighting on the cape:
There's so much purple that it needs to be done in layers: I had to do a rough version to figure out where everything was going. Thin layers over this will build up to an even finish.
Nightshade wash worked well for her, I think. Highlights next, and statue a Gauss green wash.
Playing with nightshade led to this, too:
Suit needs some thin asurmen blue but he's coming along nicely I think.
Zurr-en-Arrh is driving me crazy, but still:
Next layer of highlights - pale, pale violet - will make all the difference though, I think.
And happy enough with the street wars stuff for now:
By no means finished, but won't look disgraceful on a tabletop, which is good as I'm playing it tomorrow Vs the designer.
Other flesh has been batch washed, and various little bits not worth pics (Harleys' reds, Ivy's hair, etc).
Hopefully this week will continue to be productive!

Catwoman (front pic isn't great, can't really see the verdigris) Blue washes on the black really worked.
And Owlman. Joy to paint. PITA to photograph.
And as for Street Wars NYC The remaining Devil's Outcasts and the whole gang (standard gang size is 8, but there's an unreleased promo in there, the guy on the left-hand end)
And Black Cobras and chums
PLUS Siren WIPs AK Harley's colours now pretty much all blocked in. Bat needs a tidy up, but on to hair and then starting to build up colours next.
Slightly further on with Ivy and the other Harley, but nothing worth a pic yet.
And even further on with Nurse Harley: Nearly time to break out the Joker juice for that syringe!
So continuing with Sirens next. Other stuff is ongoing also - more on skin tones, for example, across TWD models. I've decided to fall on my sword and not play Street Wars NYC tonight (despite being all set for it) because had a massive fight with Mrs G that was largely my fault. Game rescheduled for next week. Need to do her plants, one of them has very demogorgon (stranger things) maw and the other is pure Audrey 2, debating where to go with the paint jobs/colour schemes.
And also got my John Stewart conversion painted up:
I think, crucially, you can't tell it's a collection of parts. Tournament legal, too clear representation of Green Lantern, all KM parts. So much for not batch painting colours
Yes, but "done" implies that there will be an end at some point... Looks to me like you're going to be painting the entire DC multiverse... which will NEVER end!

Thanks. Given that they both got finished by accident, on a whim, I'm particularly pleased.
I should point out that I'm not painting as fast as it might seem. Lots of stuff has bits and pieces done, as I dilettante about from one to another.
Which is why this got done today:
Given the hellish fragility of the model, she's now rock solid. Plus having the only Villain magic user in the game done is good for serious muscle.
Not feeling (or feeding) the plants just now.
Which leaves (that are primed and ready):
Blackgate prisoners (part painted)
Walking dead prisoners, Abraham, Negan, Tyreese and a couple of walkers (part painted)
Batman and Arkham Guards
Knightfall Batman
Flashpoint Batman
Red Son Superman
Batgirl (rebirth)
Red Hood (Arkham)
Gorilla Grodd Crew
Parliament of Owls
Johnny Quick
Joker and clowns (Arkham Asylum)
Joker (Killing Joke)
Ivy's plants
Y'know, for someone who has commented about "cheesecake", you sure paint a lot of very leggy minis.
Just sayin'. Not disapprovin'.
The hair could use a bit more sheen/highlights to bring it more to life. I'm a sucker for long flowing hair on minis, so I can't resist commenting on this.
Agree with Red, firstly, you are definitely a leg man, and secondly, I am a dilettante, you are a professional, think you probably meant dither, or digress.

To putz around/about. I don't know how much Yiddish slang has pervaded UK-English, but it has made inroads into US-English. Much to US-English's enrichment, I might add. To dither wourks too. Or to fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way.

Joker (Killing Joke) next.
Well, the wisdom of Red Harvest is not to be denied. There's a delightful Scots term haver which means much the same (as heard on '500 miles'). I've not heard putz used as a verb, actually, only as a noun to describe a moron (or, again in Scots, Numpty). Yiddish words don't have huge mainstream use in outside of London really. My dad's family is Jewish (and my major, long ago, was linguistics) so I'm a bit more au fait. My wife's favourite word is tuckus As for verbing dilettante, I'm an English teacher, I can talk good me. Getting a lot of votes for KJ here. I'll do him, but not till he's had a bit of GS work. The model isn't that different from the Arkham Joker, apart from having a cane, so I've decided to GS him a hat and a camera (shudder). I did my Burton joker a top hat so I reckon I can do a wide brim hat for this Mr J without too much difficulty. Added bonus of doing KJ is that he's the version for the DCUMG (as opposed to BMG, though he's compatible). (edit - now he has a hat and camera)

Close enough to use BMG for extra prisoners.
Initial shading done on the Parliament of Owls

Debating purples. The two joker sculpts are very similar and want a bit of colour differentiation. I'm think of going really pinky for one (KJ) and indigo for the other (AA), maybe?
Automatically Appended Next Post: And the fruits of my labours.
Been playing with purples, pinks, indigos etc. Did the two jokers over different bases (one pale grey, one black) and with different highlights and washes (pinks and blues) and will get different washes (violet and indigo respectively).
And because I was playing with a pair of Jokers, I thought I should do a pair of Bats:
Same blend colour (VJ model air blue) but Batman's cape base colour was vj purple, whilst AzBat was done from vj royal blue)
And Batgirl came along for the ride.
Her purples are just about done. It's her cape that needs work. Blend colours for that, and rusty lump of metal, need my attention.
But good progress. Slowly but surely, shelf is less shameful

Yay, AzBat who has returned, sorta, to the main canon. Which is nice Flashpoint is a timeline created by the Flash dicking about as usual. In it, Bruce is shot by Joe Chill, and his father becomes the Batman to avenge him whilst his mother becomes the Joker as she goes crazy. It's pretty good.

I appreciate they're not great pics but it's more to illustrate the colour now matches the other Joker.

Now that's scary Johnny Quick *should* be fairly straightforward, and Red Hood is more about the conversion. That just leaves gorillas! (and walking dead). The aim is to be clear of the current phase of the shelf of shame by end of March, which was an ambitious goal - 59 models (61 if you include repainting the new Joker and Harley!) - but nearly there, and that'll take me to 80 models painted this year so far. I doubt I'll exceed last year's total of 185, but I'm going to try. April brings some scenery, maybe, possibly Puppets War, more Walking Dead and other BMG/DCU. Speaking of which, eagerly waiting on collection of crud from Black Cat Bases. Fast food litter will really add to the Big MacAttackers.
I must thank you all once again for your support of that crazy idea. I posted them on the Fb group and I've never seen such a dementedly enthusiastic reaction. Proper humbled.

Theophony wrote:The Robber McDonalds look great , how about a Titan joker for Grimace, and Harley’s Hyenas done up as the fry guys.
Thanks. I already did this with my titan Joker:
I may well do Bud and Lou in reference to the fry guys though. Red and yellow collars, at least.
Speaking of Grimace... A big lump of green, that's going to be purple:
The top of the stick will be a milkshake though I'm not sure whether to mount it vertically or horizontally. He counts-as Borgon, big fat hammer wielding thug. With that joker, Harley, the goons and Mr Fries, I mean Freeze, that's exactly 350 points! Must be a sign
Also, a bit more progress on the Grodd crew, not much as looking after poorly baby.
I used a layer of vj burnt sienna and I feel that really adds depth to the fur.
Royally hacked off with work, having to take a day's unpaid to look after little one - I don't mind that per se, but resent the guilt being piled on me.
Hey ho

cheers buddy.
And so...
I *loved* painting these. I was dreading it, but so glad I saved them till the end.
You may think you can outrun me. But you can't outthink me.
Grodd deserved a special base, so cheeky resin 40k base, just cos. Hey, multiverse, right?
Basing these was an interesting challenge, as I wanted them to be in-keeping with the rest of my BMG.
Just noticed a seam needs sealed on the young warrior's left shoulder (one without a weapon)
That's 59 models painted this month. Shelf of shame cleared! Woo!
Next up? Well, finished the Grimace and bases for the McCrew (waiting on bits). Bought a line scraper (actually went in a GW - the horror!), had a good blether with the manager who's an old mate (they now know not to ask me what I'm working on ), going to crack on with my Walking Dead. School holidays fast approaching, so I'm keen to get them to a workable place for playing with the kids. Planning on letting the boys paint up the Walkers as a wee holiday project. Because slave labour gets stuff done! Later,

AT-43, now that's a game I miss. So much potential.
Speaking, tangentially, of which, I see that Confrontation is returning. That was a dense game of goodies if ever there was.
So last bits and bobs.
Joker and Harley got some base scatter:
And... Grimace!
Better view of milkshake hammer:
All I need is some (victor) fries with that and it's a full crew
So that's 60 models in March, so far (not counting 2 repaints).

Never mind various terrain and the 40 or so critters from puppets war ... And any review stuff I get my grubby little mitts on >[
If I can get the 42 BMG and TWD done by the end of April I'll be thrilled. Should keep me busy
Other news, little one much better, boys flying through school (both ahead of their peers, especially in maths, precocious little sods, can't possibly be my children...)
Totally hacked off with work, but only a few days left till the end of term - phew!
Mental health seems more positive. Feeling generally brighter. Got a game of BMG planned for Tuesday. Using OWLS! Be some bird on bird action, versus Penguin. As ever, hobby is a stabilizing factor.
For comparison, I've finished one project this year so far... and I'd started that part-way through last year...
Cheers. I don't think that's really a fair comparison though, given the scale of modelling you do.
On the subject of projects, a mate has asked me to make him an Arkham Asylum courtyard, which seems like a fun challenge. I got a bunch of amazing crud from Skalk Bloodaxe so that's going to come in very handy. The biggest hurdle will be the entrance gate, but I'm sure I can come up with something.
Had a great game of BMG last night, ran the Court of Owls for the first time in 2nd ed, and first time with the new High Court Lady as Boss. They are scary fast as it is, and with extra sewers as their faction objective means have crazy mobility. Mr Freeze is a very difficult match-up for Court, however, as they're all Vulnerable to Cold (take extra damage if Frozen (movement reduction effect)) so I was very excited to try see how they worked. Didn't take many pics as phone was dying.
Court don't play like other factions as they are cheap boss, expensive goons, whilst Freeze is pretty standard apart from having Beam weapons (can't reload, but scary spray templates of icy doom); he also had Reverse Flash and Captain Cold in the mix.
I hung back for a couple of turns. Despite being very killy, it's about holding off until you can put in a burst of speed to get any stragglers, and setting up folk to jump out of sewers on anyone daft enough to walk past one. After two very uneventful turns, Mr Freeze made the mistake of stopping by sewer, and three Talons came for his head. They did then get a freezy blast from a Snowy goon, but the damage was done. There were some good toe-to-toe fights too:
Reverse Flash is very annoying and hard to kill Captain Cold did end up with a centre parting, however Good fun all round, anyway. My opponent also asked if I'd paint his Freeze crew up for him, so that's another nice wee side project.
Last week of term, thank feck. Had a violent incident with a pupil on Monday so that's cast a shadow over my week generally Such, unfortunately, is increasingly the nature of the job.
And, shelf of shame update for April:
I may have been working on a piece of scenery And...
Batgirl's back! Well, front, but still
Woot indeed. I did consider doing her Blonde (so, Stephanie, not Barbara, but not sure now). I think the red hair will be a nice contrast.
Yeah work sucks. But, about to be done for a fortnight.
I got an amazing pile of stuff from Skalk Bloodaxe, as mentioned.
And the loer have a War Effort contest on just now.
And a mate wants some sort of Arkham prison yard.
And it's his birthday the day the loer contest ends.
What could possibly go wrong?
The plastic yelled prison fence at me. Tidying one of the many overstuffed cupboards, found some crafting stuff, cardboard letters big and small. I saw a use for the D...
And with small crafting letters attached.
What better place to start a war?
Some pre-existing trees, walls and, y'know, asylum front.
Of course, prisons need a guardpost.
.
So I'm going to resurrect and fix this. It's made from cod bits, a beer drip tray, blister packaging and a smoothie lid. Never finished.
And maybe a watchtower, but I've not figured that out yet.
I love it when a plan comes together A productive start to the Easter holidays I feel!
19 days of holiday here I come...

On we go.
Cake boards, boxes from mdf letters, sprue, scrap plastic, leftover bit of chimera ram, interesting bit of plastic on the roof, assorted card and me off-cuts, a 25mm base as hatch, mysterious brass 5.
Roof removable for access/playability.
Amazing what a spot of primer does.
Had a very good nerd moment the other day. Kids were having an Easter egg hunt at a friend's, and we were invited for the drinking. There was another couple there, in their 50s, whom we didn't know. During the egg hunt, the dad stopped, bent down and picking up a bit of hazel twig and declared, "That's an interesting bit of wood. Can I steal this?" Sign of a gamer if ever I saw one sure enough, he's a ww2 modeller and gamer. Led to some good chat and discussion of materials.
Another day, another coat, and with models for scale:
It's been a good Easter, all in all.
Chocolate, lasagne, justice league (not rubbish), a *lot* of alcohol, lamb, guardians of the galaxy 2 (again ), some nerdery...
Off this week with the boys. A couple of geeky days planned, should be fun X-Wing, DCU, all that jazz.
More on the asylum to follow, later y'all,

I've already got a Big Joe's Donut store and Mr J's Titan hotdogs, plus a texmex, a Chinese, and a pop-up cafe in a shipping crate. I think my citizens fast food needs are more than catered for however, I do have plans for Mayor McCheese
More work on the Asylum. Gates have been basic shaded.
Still lots to do before I start picking out details.
And the tower one step further, along with some details.
Figured out how to base the fences, some air dry clay from that other legend of the league, Cam:
Those will get primed tomorrow hopefully.
And another project.
My new Nightwing is missing a leg, but I never particularly like him standing on a tactical gargoyle anyway.
So...
I figure this is a good way to dip my toe (sorry) into body sculpting - I'm essentially just making a mirror image of the existing leg, after all. So the paperclip has been bent into shape as an armature, and next a simple layer of green stuff. I've been following a lot of what Kev White (Hasslefree) does, so going to try to put it into practice.
Tomorrow, a day of errands. But hopefully a game of xwing or DCU with the boys. At least we can just leave it set up and locked in the dining room, a rare treat. But, excitingly, in the evening I finally get to try out Street Wars NYC (as well as get some promo figs) so that should be good. Expect a batrep!

glad you approve. Angle... yeah... angle...
Well, not got any Geeking done today beyond priming the fences. Funnily enough, that is often the way when the kids are off. It's like parenting requires effort or something.
But, yesterday was a very gamey day.
Xwing with kids, scum chasing down Mara Jade and Agent Kallus (damn Imperial politics)
Lots of fun. The Empire's finest escaped... just. Eldest really getting into his Scum, which is great. Corrupt the youth. Mould them... in my image. Graven image
Also, last night, got to play Street Wars NYC (from the excellently named Funky Skull Games), as well as getting my hands on test casts of some of the new models:
Based on The Warriors, these will be online store exclusives, rather than on the KS because laws. Still, very lovely sculpts, and perfectly usable in game as rivals to be mugged, dealers to buy drugs from, or as extra/create your own gangers.
Straight away, it's visually impressive, with great sculpts that capture that 70s vibe. More generally, card layout is very intuitive, although the tiny text on special rules means that it can be easy it overlook special abilities, especially ones that trigger before characters activate. Less obvious is the weapon sizes, which is a bit muddy at times: it's fairly accurate as a representation of what a character is holding, but sometimes it's a little blurry (not convinced that length of chain is a small weapon...)
One thing I love about this game is that it's not just about the fighting. In every scenario, there's random event cards you can use to change the outcome of situations, side quests to tag, bag and blag your way through the streets, dealers to score Flash from, janes to roll, bricks and bottles to be found, buildings to smash and grab - and always cops to be avoided.
There are a lot of really interesting mechanics in the game. Abilities are dice size, d6-d10. Funk is Activation, Skill is Do Stuff, Fight is Melee hit, Tough is damage prevention, Ranged is Throw. To do anything - and I mean anything, even activation - you need to roll 4+. This is intially a little confusing but you soon get over it, and actually becomes part of the game's charm and character, because essentially it's the only rule you have to remember. It's very much in the spirit of fluff over crunch, which is key to this game. Sitting down with the designer, it's obvious that simple, fun, streamlined gameplay is key, and its got that in spades.
Each turn, players dice off (d6) to determine initiative. Each character has to roll Funk to activate, as mentioned; on a 2 or 3, they can activate but only to move up to 6" - swagger about, basically. On a 1, however, they're just too busy, or too cool, bro. They lost their activation, and you lose the Initiative. It's this constant to and fro that really gives the game its flow, but there's a couple of neat tactical twists. Firstly, you can't pass the Initiative, which at times you may find you want to - but if you the big man, you gotta own it, that's just the way it is. Also, your Leader has 3 Command Points (and Lieutenants have 1) - the ability to make one ganger have an extra, automatic activation, themselves included. In a typical 6 turn game, it gives you a wealth of tactical choices. Not only that, it's possible to activate relatively, if a rival comes within 4" of you. But then you risk losing your activation, if you lose your skill check. Decisions, decisions.
Yeah, the designer's terrain (mix of Sarissa and Multiverse)is stunning. It's a fast, furious game. It's messy, in a really good way. Combat is brutal, and if it goes wrong, you are down and the cops are all over your crew. But a lucky, plucky ganger can make a name in any rumble if the throwdown goes down, and with a campaign system that pushes and promotes your crew, it's well worth taking risks and playing the odds. Great fun, and more than just beer and pretzels. Maybe a mustard coated pretzel.
I got totally owned and I loved every minute of it. Now I need to make some Loot. Some weapons. Some hos...
Playing games with the kids is the ultimate goal for us Dads, awesome.

American eBay, alas :/ Would love one myself. Yeah, Iain's board is cracking. A man after your own heart, making boards out of flooring
Bits and bobs over the last couple of days.
Tidied up the asylum, only to add the resin gargoyle left over from Nightwing's base. Typical. Started a couple of Gotham Billboards; these are the backs:
Tags and weathering to follow.
But more importantly, had a great game of DCU with the boys.
#1 went very teen titans - Cyborg, Starfire, Kid Flash, Ravager and Hawkman - #2 ran Deadshot, Deathstroke, Lobo and Johnny Quick.
Rather than just a plain brawl, they were trying to take out each other's HQ marker, so more tactics required.
As a result, it went to a draw, with them both taking out the enemy hq in the same turn.
And then, back to the Asylum, which is pretty much done. Warning: pic dump.

The vehicles you see are most likely 1:48th (O Scale) model railroad/collectible cars. There's a ton of O Scale stuff that fits perfectly into these games, such as buildings, trains, vehicles, etc. AND, they're quite affordable to boot!
Who’s running this asylum? Security seems to be really lax if people can just come in and hang posters on the inside walls. They probably let people out on Wednesdays for $1 movie night at the Bijou.

Sure thing:
Primed Black (car primer)
Zenithal Grey (ditto)
Sponge Gauss Green
Ryza rust mixed with VJ Smoke, Dipped in dirty paint water in recesses.
Alternate streaks of thinned Camoshade, Earthshade, Fleshtone and Sepia, allowed to bleed into each other.
Then, streaks down from all the rivets using the now very dirty paint water.
Pretty much it.

Not much done today; it has been a sculpty, buildy kinda day, when not rewiring and putting up new lights for the boss.
A custom base for SHAZAM! I'm sure it will be horrible to paint, but still. Why not eh?
Started on Nightwing's leg:
Rolled out a sausage of GS, flattened and wrapped around, then smoothed into rough shape with clay shaper and a bit of vaseline. Used the mirror leg and the cover of DC #600 (Hush) as guides.
And for no particular reason, a cybernetically enhanced penguin.
Just needs a rocket now. Straps for that are in place already, as you can see
I've also gap filled Arkham Origins Batman (still no idea what I'm doing for hia base), and built Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Dee, and started White Rabbit - only to discover one of her ears is missing. But given that they're disastrously designed anyway (separate bunny girl bunny ears? Really?????) I'll just make new ones from paperclips and GS. I also drilled and pinned Carrie Kelly (Robin from DKR) through the hip because KM can't make easy to assemble female metals. Also threw together a street walker for Street Wars and based the 3 warriors. Nothing worth sharing, just keeping y'all in the loop need another civilian, another dealer and a couple of cops, though the warriors plug gaps. Probably just reuse BMG cops, same basic aesthetic.
Annoyingly, my Raven is out of stock, delaying my Firestorm order. So much for ETA 1-5 days. Becuase I don't have enough toys... Later team

Lol. Cheers buddy. I'm not a huge fan of the character but he's a beast in game, a punchy magic damage character which is a real rarity. Diana has her magic sword of course, and Hawkman has a once per game magic strike, but he sits between them at the ideal cost in game.

FedEx brought me a big box of Mantic:
I'll be reviewing these anon for the May issue of Initiative Magazine. First impressions are that DB2 is very slick, and KoW is a huge bunch of stuff.
What with the wife being off and it being her birthday very little actual geek done.
But not a total slacker; I did get a bit more work on the cyberpenguin
So, as far as I can tell, he's sent me at least the Nurgle half of the new 40k box.
Because apparently 40k is a way of life, and one that you'll never escape.
Stay tuned, gang, looks like we're getting back into Warhammer...
Must admit I'm looking forward to you stepping back into the Grimdark, even if it's just for a bit! Will you be taking your established style into it, or trying something different? Either way, I'm excited to see what you come up with.
What's in the KoW box? I don't recall seeing anything about a new starter set, but I haven't been following Mantic that closely lately.

Well, I was admiring Yorkright's and commented how it was weird that there were no rust coloured DG factions. The nearest is Putrid Choir, who are decaying green with rust accents. I like the idea of doing DG from an orange prime, washed with smoke and sponged different crusty greens and browns. Essentially, Mabrothrax is charging me with this as my task
The Battle of the Glades starter for KoW is huuuuuge'
80 plastics (2 full units for each faction that can each be built in two different ways) and a metal leader with multiple load outs also. Good value at £50.

It was as inevitable as the tides, some of the beautiful stuff GW are knocking out was bound to draw you in. Looking forward to it though. The good news is that these days you really don't need a massive army, with the smaller games kicking about.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Looking forward to the rusty orange . Oh, and nice haul too! Looks like you have your work cut out for you...
Well, judge below yeah I'm impressed by both boxes for different reasons but I'll go into more depth once I've played each.
@Cam I know nothing about the state of the game tbh. I'll build and paint as I see fit. Speaking of which ...
Base sprayed with Army painter necrotic flesh (equivalent to Nurglings green) with a wash of Camoshade. Forgeworld rust powder and hair spray for the rust, which I've never tried before. It's good to push myself. I know I said I'd do an orange base, and I had planned to do that over the necrotic base, but I ended up quite liking this. Thinking pus yellow eyes.
So I have the half of Dark Imperium and a squad of pox walkers to do.
No idea what to add or need to be playable in any way, not that I'm that fussed but just want some interesting toys.. Might try to scrounge some skaven bells or flagellant bits for the full putrid choir look.
I got some other bits done too. I built Mayor McCheese, with a ridiculous condiment gun:
It is perhaps a bit big, so I'm thinking of cutting the barrel away completely back to the nozzle and the rectangular section.
Talking of new things, I'm going to try working with acrylic:
Wife got a fitbit. I see futuristic sign from the packaging.
Made White Rabbit new ears
And McD dude into a Fry Guy

Oh, is that a 40k model? Hmmm... Deathguard? Check, set the hook another one caught up in the grim dark. Kidding aside test model looks great, as for playing the units in the boxed set makes a good starter army.
Like that Plague Marine a lot, proper good'n'grimy Nurlge stuff. It could do with a very sparing accent colour on stuff like the eye lenses, but I'm not sure what to suggest. A bright pale blue might contrast nicely, as might a strong yellow. Not sure though.

Great work all round, Graven'. Good start to the Nurgle-i-ness. Always interesting to see how other's approach models I've already painted (doesn't happen often with all the converting and scratch-building I do).

Makes me think your death guard allied nurgle gas should be D&D rust monsters
Also loving the Mc D fry guy with burger flipper
I do love a rust monster, it's true.
Fry guy was a happy accident, actually - I knocked off the top of his tiny brittle resin cleaver.

*bows* no idea what to do for my second civilian, though I can stop-gap with a Warrior for now. My one painted Warrior is ideal as a dealer, and I've repainted his jacket warrior red also.

Thanks mate. You touch on an interesting point actually: I can lay my hands on a lot more of these (3 more sets potentially) but the lack of conversion potential bothers me. Thoughts?

Thanks matey. I like the idea of a bright pus yellow but I worry that it won't be enough of a contrast. Red just seems a bit conventional so maybe blue, aye.
Work continues apace on Nightwing:
Just building up the muscles individually; only the foot left to do now. I actually did the upper muscles yesterday, then layered over again. I spend a lot of time looking at the work of the mighty Kev White (Hasslefree minis) on Facebook, where you can really see the progression from wireframe, through to dolly, and layered up to full model. Still raging that I missed a workshop with him last year
Newly chopped gun for Mayor McCheese, looking much better, but no decent pic. Just have to wait post prime now.
And on that subject, Fry Guy has his spatula:
Imagine how that's going to draw blood...
Got Black Adam (woo!)
Lovely model, lovely rules, and gave him a nice broken Ankh base to fit the fluff.
Finally figured out how I am basing Carrie Kelly (from DKR)
I'll likely use the same method for my AO bats, also.
Oh, and I thought, well, you can't very well have a choir of one, now can you? He'll get lonely.
Wife off to various birthday beauty treats this afternoon, so got to try Dreadball with the boys, too.
Cue lots of strops. Just like real sport! It's a lot of fun and the intro game is excellent, if slightly frustrating to the older lad as he immediately wanted to do other things. Very fast, really self contained. A game we'll be able to play of an evening easily, and portable (and accessible) enough that I can just chuck it in a bag and get a game in an hour with a mate. Heartily approve.

It won't last. I'm in denial about school on Monday.
Part of the reason they're going to take longer is I'm determined not to block paint them. I want them to look individually crusty.
Speaking of which, my first Putrid Chorister seems to be done, I think.
So much powder. So much acrylic medium. I'm quite enjoying experimenting with stuff though.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The eyes are more yellow than they seem in the pic, but I'm still worried they just blend in. I'd like to make them a bit more pus filled. Maybe some yellow glaze? Not sure. Not sold on blue tbh. Red? Bright Green?
Lots of little things done today, not modelling but loads of tidying. Sleeving cards, reorganizing folders, and so on. One of my mates managed to pick me up the 2018 event promo for Walking Dead from Salute, so that's a bonus

Awesome so far, the powders are really working well.
If you are not sold on the puss eyes, green would work.
To me the lenses look a bit like they are clouded with cataracts, so that's fitting I guess lol they do kind of blend in tho. Black would work too, it'd stand out for sure.

backatcha. Cheers for advice, as I know bugger all about 8th. I may have a line on a pile of Plaguebearers, which seem to be nasty if I can get hold of enough of them.
I redid the eyes, with yellow glaze and then a dot of pure white.
Slightly blurry hurried 7am pic, annoyingly. Much happier though, and happy enough to go with this. I also drilled out the barrel and smoked around the edges.
As I mentioned, I don't really know anything about Force Organisation in 8th, but here's my initial impressions, with a little (read: a lot) of help from Yorkright
HQ Considering kitbashing/scratchbuilding a Daemon Prince of Nurgle: I hate the stupid faced model, and want one with wings. The Forgeworld one is nice enough I suppose but I'm on a budget here, and he doesn't have wings either. I'm not planning on spending much, ultimately.
The easy-build DG lord seems like a well priced fellow, and comes with 3 more DG to builk up the numbers.
I like the Tallyman mini, and I get an excuse to sing "Come Mr Tallyman, Tally me Banana" a lot, which fits the Choral theme Doesn't look like I need another Sorceror, and Yorkright assures me that one Blightbringer is enough. The fluff for Choir is lots of them but I can't really see any game advantage either. Not entirely sold on the other HQ options from a game perspective but a couple of the sculpts look interesting.
Troops
It seems like getting a 15 strong unit of Death Guard going makes sense, so that means 8 more of them, which is fine: achievable and fun. Again, 5 easy build ones are peanuts, really, and there's always green stuff. A friend's offered me the Ltd Ed ones for a fairly sensible price but, really, I'm not that bothered. I might see what marine junk I have lying about also still that I can corrupt horribly.
The 20 Pox walkers I have should do me for now. I'd like, as I say, horde of plaguebearers but it seems like there's no point in fewer than 20, and realistically the full 30 are needed. That's pricey, so I may go for another unit of Pox Walkers and/or easy builds and convert like crazy. I'll need more infantry ultimately, regardless, I suppose. I might see if I can scrabble up some flagellant and skaven bits, bells, flails, chains, gongs etc, so we have a discordant clanky shambling horde.
Elite
Terminators look rubbish on paper to me, especially the Blight ones. Shame really, like the scythes. May just get some for giggles, or do a HQ lord in terminator armour.
FA Bloat Drones are great, really like the model, seem to be good against infantry, not against tanks. Maybe one, or possibly two more, insofar as something's got be in that Fast Attack slot, eh?
Hvy
Seems like Nurgle generally are going to struggle again a mech/tank army. Boo. However, those Myphtic Blight tank things look ok, and are again pretty cheap in £ so I'll get one and see how I feel. They're unit size 1-3 anyway.
Thoughts? Am I babbling (more than usual) here?
Best

Going to jump in with a few more tips, if you are going for 15 DG make sure you can break them up into 5 man squads if needed. Having to lose models to a leadership test sucks.
Malignant plaguecasters are very good if you aren’t going with a daemon prince. Mortal wounds are huge in 8th and smite is your friend unless they nerf it.
The myphetic drones work best in squads of 3 as they give nearby units -1 to be hit. Spawn are also good, the conversion potential is great too.
Plaguebearers big drawback is the army won’t be able to use stratagems unless they are in a separate detachment.

So, final final final pics:
Dialed up the red on the knee, redid the eyes (again), redid the shoulder pad with red, and added the smurf hat.
Now, finally, he is done... I think!
Depending on how deep you want to go with painting these... I feel the armoured tabbard could do with a contrasting colour, it's a bit too similar to the rest of his armour. Or it's a good site for a spot colour at least.
Also, the various dings in the armour may be good places for new-rust orange as a spot colour. You don't need to go as far as I did and drill them out and roughen the edges...
And maybe pick out the nurgle symbol of the shoulder pad like you have the fly on the knee.
Just thoughts... y'know, as I do...
edit: I see you have now done some of that anyway... carry on.

Cheers! It's a lot of fun. The 2nd Company is all about the rust (bout that rust, bout that rust, for nurgle... Ahem).
Yes so reading the codex, a lovely thing it is. The 2nd company is where all the rust is at, though the Putrid Choir are 3rd. So, it seems that my little group are taking on a life of their own, tentatively the Dark Choristers. It really works for me that originally being from Albia, DG are basically space Scots - cue the bagpipes! Given it's my adoptive home, it couldn't be more fitting Found 3 sets of terminator legs - no idea I still had any SM bits at all - which are the same size as DG because SCALE CREEP. Mmm, GS is my friend. I've got the bits left-over from the DG which include good torsos, arms etc so I reckon that I can build something suitable, anyway. It's always the legs you need, isn't it?
Still got lots of Batman stuff and Walking Dead to build and paint. Going to not get into a shelf of shame stressball, though. Just going to enjoy it. Besides, it does me good not to focus on just the one thing.
Played Star Wars Legion the other night. Interesting game, FFG so death-by-tokens is a given (and needless renaming action from X-Wing), inexplicable iconography and some completely gratuitous dice rolling/dice mechanics (I'm looking at you, Surge), but that notwithstanding it's undoubtedly fun and atmospheric and starwarsy.
The AT-ST was an objective for the purposes of this game, btw (it's 200 pts in game, same as Vader!). I'm pleased to say that the rebel scum were victorious (I play Imperial mostly for X-Wing, but it's nice to have a change), though Vader cut down Luke whilst the rest of his force was massacred - all in all it felt very fluffy.
I worry that it's going to go full FFG and mad paralysis of upgrade choice. Everything's on cards, and the layout/design is far from intuitive. The command token mechanic is interesting, it's semi random which unit you activate in turn (though it's IGOUGO). I'll not be picking it up, though that's not a reflection on the game per se; my opponent (long-time gaming buddy metropolis and I have decided that we're going to invest individually in new games we like but sufficient for two or three extra players - so he's going full into Legion, just as I'm going to pick up a few teams for Dreadball (which can be up to 6 player for maximum carnage). Seems like a good plan, on paper at least
Other random stuff. My dad, despite working many years in the computing industry, is notorious for odd moments of Luddism (anyone remember the XBox saga?!) The latest one:
"Is that Spotify still going?"
"Um... Yes."
"Oh. Because I was one of the original subscribers and get premium free for life. Is that good?"
Still, free Spotify now B).

Worked my way through the rest of the Codex, and I can't help it, I just really like the Putrid Choir's fluff, and actually my colour sceme still works really well for them. all good I think a Tallyman and notapothecary are next. They're cool models, which is what matters and because I'm a glutton for punishment, I suspect a 3rd Dreadball team also (not-Gorn or not-Borg? Hmm...)

Well now. I remember why I like 40k: it's the modelling. I have really, really missed kitbashing. Sitting down with an assortment of bits and seeing what emerges. Hopefully, it's obvious that this is a chaos sorcerer in terminator armour with force axe. Obviously, more greebling and GS work to do. Not entirely sure what to do along the top of the armour. Too much?
I'm doing an icon bearer too. A random assortment of bits. Yes, those are grey knight legs Obviously the back needs more work, especially turning the modern pack retro/heretical (heretrical?)
I also did work on the spot colours on the rest of the Choir. Funny how green is actually a spot colour for these guys.
These guys are special they get 2 pics
And the other choristers Next for this lot is sepia wash and then onto more powders. C&c sought as ever!

Better that she get it out of the way now. Did manage another game of Dreadball with the boys, adding in more rules. Excellent stuff, smashing game - loads of fun and really quick, but highly tactical too.
So, on the DG, only sepia wash done:
Now, to tackle them individually. Block painting won't work from here, they'll look too similar and I want varied, organic entropy.
And finished the builds on the other two.
Sorcerer has some pipes atop his carapace, gun changed to combi melta, and some tendrils. I've not added a Force-bit to the weapon, I'll aim to make that clear in the paintjob. Purple maybe, or the return of the obsidian effect I used to use on GKs, perhaps.
Icon bearer has had some filling and weathering at the front.
Lots more at the back, though.
Honestly I love this build, I'm so chuffed with him. He's really characterful and made of total junk. Bliss. Might have to do another one
So ordering supplies. Tallyman, Nauseous Rotbone (because I like the models), more necrotic flesh and more green stuff. Priorities Later

You need a screaming bell. Then mount it to a Hellbrute as their CC weapon, as counterpoint to that one Chaos Dreadnought that has a plague censor as it's CC weapon.
Actually, Skaven bits in general would probably be of great use to you.

I've used any little bells I could find from the vestiges of my bits box, actually, for just that reason - but very few to be found, alas. I was considering, actually, mounting a Screaming Bell on the back of a Plaguecaster, because that's not at all silly. Heck, it could be firing the Censer...

not till the other stuff's done Well, at least till primer turns up, anyway. I'm going to prime some walking dead stuff with it too, seems reasonable, eh? Along with Pox Walkers a-plenty.
On a side note, but still sticky and green:
Beginnings of a Lazarus Pit (from DC comics) for a mate. He wants one that looks recessed into the ground for a Nanda Parbat table he's building, so it's going to go on a little hillock.
And the slow process of filthing up the rest of the squad, starting with the Choirmaster:
Looks slightly overexposed, but you get the idea. I'm debating a druchi wash on the head cloths/cloak, for a bit of pop, and some verdigris on a couple his doodahs. I'm surprised to find I'm liking fairly plain, if mucky, bases, though the rear of his base still needs some attention. I think because they're such charcterful models that you don't want the distraction.
Gearing up for supply order from Firestormgames, as I'm going through washes at a rate of knots here.

There’s too much to catch up on Graven, so I just read the last couple of pages. Great stuff as always! The DG Sorceror is fantastic! Is that the SoB/Abbadon figure I sent you for the GMS? If so, a far better use and great to see an old model given a new lease of life!
On a more serious note: never used the technical paints, but it's an effect easily replicated/improved, plenty of tuts for that on youtube. I lovr your cloaks, it really suits the models.

It is! I felt initially very guilty about recycling your hard work but then I thought, hey, you'd want it to see some use! And it seems to have helped summon back from (to?) the depths. If you get the chance, take a look back at some of the recent Batman stuff (although there... quite a bit ). Automatically Appended Next Post: Addendum: glue test didn't work, looks rubbish. Hmmmmmmm.
My son wanted to try the crackle paint as he is incredibly lazy and wanted a quick finish to basing.
We initially had the same problems as you, it wouldn't "crackle". However I'm guessing you aren't applying it think enough, it needs to be practically shovelled on to an average depth of say 1 to 2mm. It will then crackle nicely, but will show black in the cracks from the base unless you paint the bases first (we use a dark chestnut brown)
Once dry the crackled paint will occasionally shell off so an airbrush coat of varnish is useful to glue it down.

For those crackle paints, I think (have not used them) they have to be applied quite thickly to get the effect.
For the PVA/superglue, you need to wait until the PVA has formed quite a thick skin before applying the sg. This I have done.
Yeah I'm used to PVA/Superglue, but it just didn't look right to me.
So, the moral of the story is... listen to dakkanauts:

I wonder if the spinny axe blades need to get a contrasting wash.
Famous last words eh?
And some base detail
I think I'm going to keep the rest of the bases fairly simple too. So this might be it.
Speaking of the rest...
Aye. No bad.
The drone has much more empty space so might go a bit more stuff and nonsense on the base.
Maildrop came. Raven for BMG (finally!), No Tallyman (on back order), but Rotbone for DG did. I like the idea of acoustics and ultrasound being important to these guys. For you know, rupturing things. Lots of bits and pieces to get on with in the meantime. I'm going to finish off the squad and then jump to a bit of something else. Good to mix it up. It's definitely not hobby ADHD. Honest.
It's also commission stuff time again. One of my BMG buddies has asked me to do his Freeze goons for him in the style of Batman & Robin (yes, that travesty); he's picked up a Frank Miller joker on the cheap so good trade for services rendered and some scenery, just for fun.
Whilst Knight Models seem to have faded into the background a bit, at least in terms of review stuff (honestly, having to buy my own toys, tsk), I've struck up the beginnings of a working relationship with Ronnie Renton, boss of Mantic: he likes my stuff, it seems, so going to be getting some exclusive news (seriously, watch my twitter @graven_sam) and letting Mark Latham give me a couple more exclusives for my interview with him in Initiative Magazine. Oh, and a free copy of the Hellboy game to review when it comes out.
Good job on the death guard guys. Poor burgling looks like he’s about to become a skidmark and not the type on the street .
Sad to hear about knight models slowing down, but picking up Mantic stuff could be really neat. I’ve not been a huge fan of their ultra crisp clean paint schemes.
Jealous of the free Hellboy game. Will you get resins to paint up before general release? (General Release sounds like a great name for a Death Guard commander, even if it’s for attached chaos renegade guardsmen.)
Simple bases, but very effective, work really well with the overall feel of these guys. Personal opinion is the spinny blades on the axe could do with a touch more contrast, but that's just my own aesthetic.
For the spinny axe gears, maybe make them a nice bright rust-orange, like they're corroded, but constantly getting 'sanded' by spinning? But all that's there to sand is, like, hyper-compressed rust.

Nurglings are supposed to go squish. It's the rules
Knight will pick up again at some point. They're just a bit dippy.
Won't get prerelease but not having to pledge is sweet. Game looks awesome. Building a good relationship with the main man is key

Good news on the Mantic front
Yeah, I think you're right. Needs a wee bit more pop. And thanks, I'm very happy with my gooey bases.
Anvildude wrote:For the spinny axe gears, maybe make them a nice bright rust-orange, like they're corroded, but constantly getting 'sanded' by spinning? But all that's there to sand is, like, hyper-compressed rust.
I like that. I like that a lot.
Yeah, that works for me
Built Rotbone. Nice model, although don't like the arm tabs forcing them into one position (not hard to change, but still). Only bit I'm not a fan of is the vials, just too SM, so added a bell and a GS tentacle.
Oh, and a nurgling.
And decided I couldn't leave the drone unconverted:
Ridiculous plague censer ftw!
Speaking of building stuff, and stock models, did the first set of Poxwalkers. Was nearly finished when I realised I could add pva first to get some extra bubbling Now on the one hand, they're lovely models, really characterful. On the other, they are some of the least readily converted plastics I've ever encountered. This will require a *lot* of chopping. I'll see what bits I can dig up; I particularly need some IG parts I think. Perhaps a bitz store grab bag, they're usually good for random crud. I suppose that also means I'll be able to build some extras though, which given their ability to recruit fallen opponents isn't bad.
Also, I did some milliput work to make a stone circle to go round the Lazarus pit:
I hate milliput. Still, it's done now.
Today may be a day of moar priming! And onwards, Penguin of the Future!
Hey ho,
Graven
Bash the Bosh wrote:No love for milliput Graven? Looks great despite the hardship!
Lol cheers.
monkeytroll wrote:Oh, that extra rusty orange does the trick nicely. Just what the plague-doctor ordered.
Giant censers always a good look.
Robins looks pretty cool. Is he one of these kits that comes with weird part separations that make it that little bit harder to kitbash with?
He is indeed in awkard parts. They all are. Not cool, gw, not cool.
Gitsplitta wrote:Great work all-round graven! Really digging your painting on the plague marine character.
Thanks mate. Speaking of characters, Papa Nurgle has decided to mock me : Now I remember why I hate Army Painter Primer. The Sorceror Lord, Icon Bearer and Pox Walkers were in the batch also. Now, it's not a complete disaster, because I'm going to try and use the crackletastic outcome for the his unholy goodness. We'll see.
You know what, I think that could look really cool and unique (though it is a very bizarre thing to have happened... dodgy can of primer?) Slap a bunch of washes, grime, weathering on and you could have a really nice model there.
I'd try it on one first, and it wouldn't look so good on the Poxwalkers as it probably suits armour better than flesh, but at least give it a go!
On an unrelated note, that Lord of Contagion is epic!
Crusty the clown as a space marine . That’s why I’ve sworn off primers. Even on metal. My paintings not that great though, so it doesn’t matter if it chips off.
I've always used spray primers from halfords and never had a problem that wasnt down to either cold or humidity (eg my fault for spraying in the wrong weather).
Great work on the axe guy, the base looks fantastic! I like what you've done wit the horns the ivory look actually stands out.
Contagion Lord turned out fantastic Graven, that base is putrid in a good way. Sorry to see that plaguesurgeon get the bad primer though it looks like you might pull him out of the fire with some more paint and washes on him. Grats on the commision work well deserved you are a great painter.

Thanks mate. I don't think I'm necessarily a great painter, I just have my own style that suits certain things (grime, mostly). Speaking of which, gotta keep the faith: As long as I don't experience flaking also we should be ok. I have to embrace Papa Nurgle's "gifts", it really is his divine retribution for moaning about the earth paint. Anyway, it's not like it happened to Mortarion or something (who'll be getting trusty grey primer anyway). Though it would be good on the giant fly wings. And on a Plagueburster or Myphtic it would look genuinely snazzy. Random idea: at some point, a Predator (or something) with genuine caterpillar tracks, as in, little mutated bumps or tentacles, running along the ground. Just cos. Speaking of other acquistions, Mabrothrax has revealed that this is not the full extent of his bounty. He's staggering my 40th, there are some more goodies (/baddies) inbound. I'm a little scared Apparently there's an FW Blight Drone in there (the big bugger) which is really exciting as that (as, to be fair, he well knows) has been my favourite Nurgle mini for years.
Other stuff, the Lazarus Pit continues: Aiming for some kind of Nanda Parbat rocky spring.
And thanks to Mr E. Bay, 4 more Dreadball Teams incoming for less than the price of 1 new one Marauders - orks & gobs; Forge Fathers - squats; Ver-myn - space skaven (spaven?) and Zees - space monkeys (sponkeys... now that does sound wrong). Which also means I'm able to play full Ultimate Dreadball, as that's up to 6 teams on the one pitch Great for pick up and play madness.
Hang in there graven. Stick to your vision and you'll be fine. It's all experimentation and a crap-shoot anyway... so you might as well be dictating what crap is being shot.
I am sure you will make lemonade out of the crackle primer. It actually looks pretty cool. Reminds me of Salazar from the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
CommissarKhaine wrote:+1 for unexpected crackle effects I guess... Nice recovery!
Well, there is detail lost. But we have to take the best from it we can.

Definitely shooting crap eh?

Funnily Spankey is Mabrothrax's nickname. Hmmmmmmm
youwashock wrote:I am sure you will make lemonade out of the crackle primer. It actually looks pretty cool. Reminds me of Salazar from the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Nice thought, I might go down that route on the flesh, especially of the Poxwalkers.
monkeytroll wrote:Crackle lemonade? Not sure I'd want to drink anything that's had Papa Nurgle's touch..
Not exactly what Beyonce was getting at, I suspect look at his syringes though
So, it's pretty much done: his plaguey resurrection (slightly dodgy pics but still): Salazar the Skeuopoios, melter of masks, forger of flesh. TBH the graininess is not that obvious in real life. As Briancj says, I paint for 20 ft away Only on the back is it really obvious, on the head hanging from the bottom of the back pack. I might daub some more Rot on it. I think that, under the circumstances, he's really turned out ok. I'm enjoying using Putrid Choir to merge the DG fluff with references to Greek theatre. It feels... right, somehow. GW loves its pseudo-classicism after all.
Putrid Choir: Coryphaeus, Lord of Plague, Master of the Choir Koudounia, the Blightbringer, Protector of the bell Miasma, Malignant plaguecaster, the contagious power The Elders, Tragic Chorus (6) Gerontos, Eldest of the Elders
Not bad, considering most of the Asylum was scratch built.
And onwards...

BMG Freeze Crew (for a pal) Batgirl Pyg & Dollotrons (3) Captain Marvel Mayor McCheese Nightwing Black Adam Bats AO Ra's Al Ghul Frank Miller Joker & Robotic Dolls (unbuilt) Raven (unbuilt)

So, that should keep me busy In an ok place in my head. Need to not feel overwhelmed by work and by geek. We'll see, playing DCU tonight, should be fun. Later Graven
Thanks chaps I'm going to use the rest of that can of primer on the plaguecaster because I think that that will look excellent on a tank.
Yes, the plaguecaster, mortarion, typhus, blight drone, plague marines and Blightlords came.
I'm so screwed DC game didn't happen, opponents failed me. Tis life. Hey ho.
After the crackle-medium experiments I can only say; be careful what you wish for...
However, good to see you've done a top save-job.
You say this is also all over the pox-walkiers?
Can sections of the cracked paint be chipped off without damaging the underlying model? You could make it look like they are covered in thick mud/sludge that's flaking off as they "walk", spreading their "pox" as they go...

Just a thought.
I know, I certainly summoned his crackly wrath, eh? I don't know, is the answer, on it. It seems to have formed a proper primer layer, weirdly, full mordant and all. Very peculiar.
Not much done. Life getting busy - we're into exam season, which for me translates as 6 weeks of quality assurance and marking. Plus I've been making an ancient egyptian robe and collar thing for #2 this week. I have, however, made progress on the Lazarus pit: The final stage - assuming it works - is to add some steam with wisps of cotton wool around the edge where you can see the gap. Hopefully, it'll look really cool. I'm looking forward to building some plague marines, it's great to have a long-term project. I mean I'm unlikely to play till 9th anyway and let's face it, 40k is a thing I can still be playing over the next 40 years, amarite?! Later graven
On the bright side: you don't have to study for the exams . I'm curious to see how the wool will pan out - I always find smoke effects very difficult to pull off well.
CommissarKhaine wrote:On the bright side: you don't have to study for the exams . I'm curious to see how the wool will pan out - I always find smoke effects very difficult to pull off well.
Previously, I've used expanding insulation foam to create colums of smoke, that's quite fun. It's just steam, on this occassion - we'll see, it doesn't work, I'll just make more rocks for the gap.
Gitsplitta wrote:Graven, I'm sure I missed the explanation somewhere... what's the raised area in the center for?
Body floating just below the surface (or just about to emerge from the pit). I'll call him... Bob
Yeah, me too! I remember a friend bringing epic knights into school. Smitten. I even remember buying WD: 126 & 127 for Confrontation, as Necromunda was then. Good times.
Our Confrontation campaign stalled at the very start when one of my mates rolled twice on the armour table, receiving:
1) Terminator armour
2) "your choice" - He chose another set of Terminator armour
Plague surgeon turned out really well, looks like he has a hard day in the emergency room. Gore and grime looks spot on, I await the emergence of "Bob". ;-)

Got round to doing some more work on Space Penguin
He flies casual.
Stay Shway!
Layered some initial rust on the poxwalkers, but nothing to show yet. However, finished the first Blight Drone, Icaron.
I think the penguin is a direct rip off of Falcon in the Avengers! Seriously he turned out great, really made me smile. That drone is repulsive in the best of ways.
Batman's in trouble with a bunch of penguins like that . Nice work on the drone as well, I like how dirty your model are while still retaining their shape. IF I may give some advice on the lense (assulming it's finished): make the top highlight crescent-moon shaped, and leave the top left quarter black. For the bottom right highlight, go with sharper highlights for the lighter colours.
ph34r wrote:The white and rust on that blight drone look great together.

Good tips. I shall apply.
Anyway, about that penguin:
Much fun
And next, the beast of Santa Prisca himself... BANE !
Still some highlights to do. He's a bit less grimdark than most of the Bats stuff as he's for the DCU game (or rather, that's how I'll be using him).
Scale shot:
He's a big bugger. That's Arkham Origins Batman next to him.
Started another trash barricade:
Not a bad day. Got my Dreadball teams through the post, so going to sit and sort through them at some point. Need to decide whether to leave the hex bases clear or not. Although they look snazzy, One team is part painted already, and the new starter teams come glued to theirs, so painting will be tricky regardless. I'm tempted to go black and add some neon trim to the front three hex edges, to mark the threat zone.
As for building, well, IKEA furniture for the kids has been the main event today, and other boring real life stuff like replacing a fridge. Rock and bloody roll, I tell you. Eldest is away at scout camp, learning the noble art of whittling.
I did, however, get my Tallyman in the post along with some interesting modern 32mm vehicles to review from KORE Thinking.
SUV, tuktuk and MPV. Looks like they could be fine.

It is indeed Inque. I see someone really knows their Batman Beyond!
Again, not hugely productive. Heat wave yesterday, 23, that's like, 72? Not bad for May in Glasgow. So obviously went to cinema then fixed a hole in the roof where jackdaws are invading
DeathZap is a design space that's been set up by Graham Dixon and myself as part his hobby blog, part my commission space, part general idea community. That's not as wanky as it sounds, I promise.
You'll see what we're working on, Graham's antics with his new laser cutter, my commission models/terrain and our other hobby projects. Plus, you'll get sneak previews of some of the exclusives you can find in the pages of Initiative Magazine and bigcomicpage.com . And, you know, win free stuff.
And currently, we need help! Specifically, can anyone do us a better version of the DeathZap Studio logo? We did it in a bit of a rush and it pretty much does what was intended, but not quite. We can't pay cash (we don't have any), but we can possibly cut something lasery based rewards. It needs to work for Facebook, Twitter and to be able to go onto a t-shirt that can be worn without too many people wondering what the hell it is. Basically, quite retro but nice and simple as well
Automatically Appended Next Post: Spoiler-free thoughts on Avengers: IW.
It's very good. Thanos is definitely drawn from the best versions of him, and is a convincing, well-rounded villain, although the Black Order are a bit meh, which was inevitable.
Concerns that some heroes don't get enough screen time were (largely) unfounded.
Minimal swearing and gore - family friendly (Joe loved it, and he's not quite 8), as did Dan & herself.
It's got the right amount of funny, plenty of feels (although I'm not quite as heartbroken as I'd expected) and has some great action sequences too. 3D is nothing special, but the visuals are generally stunning.
Some great cameos, some real surprises (one real hand-over-mouth in shock), and a great post credits Coda.
Not bad

Having an absolute blast rescuing the poorly painted, mono-posed Teraton team I picked up for £4. They were blobs of ochre to start with... Here's the first finished guy. He's a Guard: they block the Strike Zone and Slam opponents. I've mixed and matched bodies and left arms, but right arms are position dependent - only Strikers and Jacks get Dreadball gloves. Teratons are slow, so don't get Strikers, but they do get Jacks, who can do everything (just not as well), and they're also one of the only teams to get a Keeper, which is essentially heavier Guard with the ability to Punt the ball. I've converted him.x
Better shot of the threat edges (maybe) at the front I am totally smitten with these guys. Loads of fun to paint, even if I'm filling and tidying the previous heinous mess.
Some progress on Nanda Parbat piece for the London BMG co-ordinator. Making zen garden. Not fun.
Got hold of some of KORE Thinking's new modern vehicles. They're all good but my goodness I love that tuktuk. Scale shot with KM, TT, studio miniatures and mantic. Resin is crisp and well cast, some bubbling on the underside but nothing major and certainly not really noticeable. No warping on the wheels and very consistent sizing.
Started the next batch of nurgle - the rest of the thermal shock troops Nothing to show yet though. Interestingly, I'm spraying the next batch of on sprue. Never tried this before, although I know some folk swear by it. I guess because I tend to convert so heavily it hadn't ever seemed sensible. But I'll try it and see, eh?
Great work for a rescue job. Have you sculpted a face mask for the cap?
Let me know if there's any dreadball bits in particular you're after - it was one of those KS things I got caught up in and I mainly just use them for chopping bits off
