Neither this nor the Adepti-con tournament are official GW events AFAIK, so I don't know if anyone cares about strict model requirements. I've seen some pretty amazing IG Vulture conversions, for example.
Here is the official astro site, but it doesn't address conversions as far as I can tell.

Here is a link to the photos of last years Astro tournament, taken by the guy organizing this mini-tourney. If you look closely, you might spot a Tyranid army with a Harpy and a pair of Spore Sacks - that's mine

@Strangeloper The store is really nice, super clean and last time I was there they had about 6 tables going. He has weird hours (Tuesday and Thursday night and Sunday days) but the store is very organized and well put together.

Heya folks, I might be going out to one of these stores to get some paints and more glue one of these coming weekends if/when I have time . Once I can get some work done on my Knights I can bring them along,
I need to finish all the 1500 or so points I have in my possession. I've only built about 1100 and I went and ran out of glue... I want to get at least a some of them painted so they aren't TOO Grey. So it may be a couple of weeks depending on life and what have you. I'd still like to watch and learn though.
I'll probably come with my bud because I can't drive on my own yet, I couldn't say what if anything he'd bring, SM or DW probably. Him and I have only ever gone to HSG and the SQ1 GW but where we can go is all up to him. Plus we've only played against each other and one other friend, so we'll both be starting from the ground up, we do have the hang of most things though.

Yeah I popped in there last night to check it out. Big space for sure and lots of merchandise! Not well signed on the outside of the building though, I'm glad I had the address down. 290 is one of several entrances in one huge building.
The gaming tables are in the middle of the store with all the merch against the walls around them; but there is sufficient space between the tables and the merch racks so it's not an issue (vs somewhere like 401 games where you have to climb over the MtG players to look at the RPG books). I guess I'm just used to DG where there are separate rooms for gaming and shopping Almost all the tables at Meeplemart were in use last night (bloodbowl mostly).
Prices for GW stuff are well discounted (ie Heavy Support levels of discount) which is nice - now I don't need to ride the TTC for an hour to buy stuff at a reasonable price. This may be dangerous for me... . All in all I look forward to gaming at Meeplemart I could be up for a game there this weekend if anyone is interested...?
Sadly Legends is a bit too far for me for regular gaming, though it seems like you guys get a good turnout there on Sundays.

Soooo... today I was royally obliterated by Rythem's stupid Tyranids. Yes.. it is very annoying when 12 Dark Lance shots, 4 missiles, 4 blaster shots and at least 36 poison shots fail to destroy one single unit of gaunts sitting on a hill. The last one to live was simply lying on his side, gone to ground, basking in the sun. So irritating! 1 Tie and 1 Loss for me today. Oh.. and thanks for dragging the 5th and 6 th turns out as long as possible despite the fact that I could not remotely even come close to taking back the game! he he... @Dark Eldar Elite: You too will your very own pet space cockroaches! Your Termagants are complete, and ready to devour for the Hive Mind! Big man, Hive Tyrant, is almost done as well....and half of your Battleforce, including Mr. Carnifex, is taking a bath in simple green. They looked dirty, so I'm giving them a good bath for about a week or two. (What I mean really is that horrendous green paint job was awful, so I plan on stripping it off, and painting them Hive Fleet Behemoth to match the rest of the army.)

I appreciate the offer DEE: what time do you plan to pick up? The last message I saw in this thread about Downsview pickup was 10:30am on Sunday. At 10:30am on Sundays I am usually merely musing about waking up (but I usually think better of it and go back to sleep until Vinyl Cafe comes on the radio). It would take me about an hour on the TTC to get to Downsview, so rising in time to get there for 10:30 is unlikely.
If someone was willing to pop out and get me closer to, say, 12:30 or 1:30pm, that would be brilliant! But I fear that all you early risers would be deep into your second games by then and that would be too much of an imposition.

Actually I'll have to rescind that offer: my Sunday just booked up!
BTW guys, the Trygon is a fantastic model, I really enjoyed assembling mine. Lots of individual bits to trim the flash from but that's true for any large kit. HOWEVER: careful when posing the upper talons, depending on how you plan to transport the model. I posed mine with the top talons quite raised/back, and now the model is several millimeters too tall for the "Trygon" spot in a battlefoam tray :( I can transport it lying down in a Landraider space, but it's not ideal. I would have modeled it differently had I known.
Lots of Nid players in this group! Hope to get some Nid-on-Nid matches in at some point, those are always interesting.

At this point i'm the only nid player at legends though Dark is getting closer to fielding his. As for the trygon i found it pretty easy to put together compared to the new terv/tyrano model, and i don't need to worry about fitting mine into a box cause i tend to magnitize the arms( to vary degrees of sucess) on my MC's. At this point trygon is built and primed, should be able to start painting tomorrow and be around 50% by sunday.
Plus nid on nid action just sounds like a lot of nom nom nom.....

Had an awesome game against kungfujew's IG. Waiting on artwork rule checks to see if I won, tied or lost. Please help... If an ind character is in a squad from the start, and the squad is now at 25% of its original number of models, including the ind character, can that squad hold my objective? Second - of I tank shock his gaurdsmen, putting my vehicle within 3 inches of his objective ( some last turn heroics), do I contest it? Thanks...

First anything within 3 inches of an objective unless immoblized/destroyed or falling back counts as contesting. But your skimmers can't tank shock unless you buy them the shock prow upgrade . As for his unit at 25% if it is falling back it can't hold or contest an objective, if it's not falling back than it's fine to do either.
What does an artwork rule check mean?? lol
54380
Post by: Dark eldar elite
Sweet!!!! So, if that is the case, I won the game. Yes, I had the shock prows on my Raiders because I knew I would be facing a tonne of infantry. So... just to clarify, I had 25% of my squad remaining, and it was NOT falling back... but 2 of the members were independent characters (does that change my percentage... i.e. do they still count as part of my 25% original?... and then, can that squad hold? If my squad can still hold, then I win. If the independent characters don't count towards the number in the squad, then I would be less than 25% of my original and I was told that less than 25%, even if not falling back, cannot hold an objective. If this squad cannot hold, then it is a Tie. Wow... so much happened on the last turn of the game. Thanks for you help Rythem.
30785
Post by: Styrofoam04
As far as I know unless they are falling back it doesn't matter if its 25% or less. I had one marine capture an objective.
40466
Post by: kungfujew
Ya, I checked, it's a rule from previous editions for squad size and holding objectives. I'm not sure where the 25 percent came from though as two different people told me that (one who is solid on rules and one who's less so), from two different gaming groups and in previous editions it was either >50 and then =>50. Although I did learn that independent characters joining a squad do not count towards squad size for moral tests. IE in a squad of 8 if you have 2ICs and take 2 casualties you still have to take a moral test. Also, with the tank shock, if the tank is immobalized during a death or glory, the tank is moved 1 inch away from enemy models. If the DoG fails then the tank stops where it lands and the enemy foot troops are moved. I'll start on the battle report tonight so you'll have to wait and see why all that is important.
30785
Post by: Styrofoam04
I can't wait to read it, it sounds like a very close battle
52056
Post by: optimusprime14
Sounds like a close game!
I've done the same, I won a game because I have to objectives being held by a total of 3 marines. 2 on one and 1 on the other and had my Stormraven contesting a 3rd. Gotta love that last turn 24" move
54380
Post by: Dark eldar elite
Okay Kungfujew, it is sounding like I may have done well... but then you threw in the statement of waiting to see, because it is all important... makes me think that perhaps it didn't go my way. I didn't understand the death or glory thing you did and you just rolled and took your model away... did you succeed at the DoG? Is that what you are hinting at? We now know for sure that regardless of my independent characters, my squad, though at 25%, was holding my objective. Soooooooo....did I successfully contest yours or not??? I want to know NOW... I don't want to wait... gosh... it takes you almost 1 hour to set up your army and then about 35 minutes to move and run them all... if I wait for the battle report, I'll probably be old and gray! LOL I really wish the game had have ended at turn 5... turn 6 was where you killed my wych and homonculus, who were contesting your objective... Ahhh!!!
Definitely need a rematch, no matter which way it went. At least tell me I tied. I don't want a loss.

Hey Dark, if you're around sunday, which I think you are, do you want to hit up a 2 on 2? I'm going to try to do an ongoing tale of the 501rst Muskokans and our game ended in such a way that we need another one as a follow up. . But a doubles would be a better arc then a straight rematch. If anyone else wants to jump onboard then we can see what the better match-up would be, witch either IG/ DE vs */* or IG/* vs DE/*. Also, are incubi particularly valueable in DE society? And what was you special character's name.

Incubi are VERY VALUABLE. They run 22 points each (If I recall correctly) and are Elite Close Combat Specialists. All carry power weapons and a 3+ armour save. They were led into battle by a Homonculus. My Incubi never saw battle on our gameday... they were a bit timid about walking across the field in the face of hundreds of guardsmen with feather-light trigger fingers. Yes... I had hoped that with such a huge swarm of men, you would have had the b*lls to actually bring some of them towards me and my objective earlier than turn 6! My one whych squad was glorious. First time I racked up 3 pain tokens with them. he he ..
Yes, I would love a 2 x 2. I find those games to be very fun. We will see if anyone else wants to join in. I don't think I can be on your team though... I want to shoot you... I fear that the recent battle woudl be too fresh in the minds of my piratical raiders... we could experience a breach of the truce. LOL
Oh, let me begin your 'tale of the 501st'... It was a dry, clear morning when the guardsmen began setting up on the hills... and it was almost midnight when they finalized their deployment! he he...

If you live on a subway line... you can always have transportation to Legends... I don't mind picking people up at Downsview station for some gaming bliss! If ever interested, let me know.

It was a question of how the vehicle placement worked. Without having the rulebook with us, I didn't know if you moved or I did. If the DoG worked, then your imobalized vehicle is moved back off my squad, if it didn't work, then my squad is moved back off your vehicle. That's what I needed to check. Automatically Appended Next Post: And the first two turns of moving 100+ men around an empty landscape don't have to happen if your cowardly dark eldar would just take to the field. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, you're right, if should have moved the men up earlier, but I didn't think you'd spend the whole game hiding like grots behind a building. At least the battlecannon had something to say about that tactic. Mwahahahahahahahahaha

RE the IA models, do you know if we'd need the actual FW model or can we convert etc so long as we pay the points for them?
Neither this nor the Adepti-con tournament are official GW events AFAIK, so I don't know if anyone cares about strict model requirements. I've seen some pretty amazing IG Vulture conversions, for example.
Here is the official astro site, but it doesn't address conversions as far as I can tell.
http://www.astronomi-con.com/
Here is a link to the photos of last years Astro tournament, taken by the guy organizing this mini-tourney. If you look closely, you might spot a Tyranid army with a Harpy and a pair of Spore Sacks - that's mine

Hey guys!
I'm the dude running this mini-Astro tournament at Meeplemart. At the time that I'm writing this we have 10 people signed up. Right now we only have plans for 6 tables, but I'm going to talk to the owner of Meeplemart this weekend to see if we can get a couple more.
As for every day 40k games, Meeplemart is a great place to place. I was a diehard GW player (eaton centre and then younge/lawrence) for years and the first time I went to Meeplemart I converted. I play all my games at MM now. The store, the owner, the guys that hang out there, the terrain and the prices are all just awesome. There's nothing better in Toronto!
I've been working hard to get the 40k community at the store to grow and I highly recommend coming down to check it out. Our 'unofficial' 40k day is on Sunday from 12-5. Feel free to send me a PM or email if you want to schedule a game ahead of time, but there is almost always is a few guys with 40k hanging out Sunday afternoons.
If you do drop in, ask for me (Mike) to say hi! I can introduce you to the group of guys.
I hope to see you all around!
(I also saw a few of you referring to Astronomi-con as Adepti-con. They are two very different things )
edit:
Oh! As for the original question about IA models;
As long as the model is modeled appropriately you can use it.
No bringing a stock Black Reach Dreadnought and claiming it's a Seige Dread or anything like that. But if you convert it up to look like the FW model then that's fair game.
If in doubt, shoot me an email.
And since neither my Tournament nor Astronomi-con are official GW events, non- GW models are fair game!

Sure!
Meeplemart is currently open 4 days a week:
Tuesday & Thursday 5:00pm - 10:00pm
Saturday 11:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm
Right now there isn't really offical set days on what games are played on what days, but Steve (the owner) is looking at setting that up soon.
Unofficially Thursday nights are board game meet ups and Sunday afternoon's is the 40k games. Saturday looks to be for more sci fi skirmish games like Infinity and Mercs. But really you can come down and play any game any time.
Meeplemart has the largest selection of terrain I've seen in a store, there is literally something for any game you can think of. He doesn't have that many pictures of his terrain online, but his gallery does have a few. I also did a blog post about my favourite table he has which is very Space Hulk inspired.
If there is a specific game you want to play you should email or ask Steve directly and he'll be able to set something up for you. If you're looking for someone to play a specific game with, he just launched his own community forum where you can post and ask for other players.
If you've never been in the store, they carry almost every miniature line and board game in publication. Everything you see on his online store is actually in-stock on the shelves in the shop.
The only type of game I don't see played there too often is the CCGs, but he does have a selection of various games in stock. I'm not a CCG player though so I can't tell you much about that.
You can read his FAQ for more info on the store or ask me any questions you want.

I wasn't going to say this and just give you the win in the battle report, but according to the official erratta, you measure distance to friendly, enemy models, terrain, etc.. Just from the base... so the photographic evidence shows that you are not contesting. I want to say that you won, but legally I can't. You'll have to take it up with the lasguns on sunday.

Well, we had another gread day at Legends. More tables available than people needed. We had 3 tables going with all out goodness. Today, I fielded Lelith Hekatrix as my HQ, and she was stellar! First game, I played Styrofoam... I can't remember the end result, but I think we tied?? (or did I lose?). However, more importantly, Lelith aided her wych squad in comfortably annhilating 3 space wolf squads to keep them off my objective. It was a great game. My second game ended in a win, turned tie in turn 6, against the Imperial Guards of MoreDakka. My dark lances sucked, but my wych squad actually put the haywire grenades to 3 tanks, which was very fun!

Great day guys!
Does Legends have a web site? I'm curious to find out more as I'm always interested in new spots to game. How big is it?
Since all the tables at Meeplemart are multi-function and so many people showed up today it was almost reaching capacity. We had 3 games of 40k, 1 game of Mercs, 1 game of Freebooter's Fate, and some large boardgame going all at once. We had room for another 4x6 table but we didn't think we needed it at the time. If JonST spoke up we could have used it
And since you're a fellow DE player, I'll tell you about my 2 games:
I brought my Coven list and played against Marines and Orks.
The marine list was an all reserver/ DS army with lots of terminators and marines. I don't have a very fast DE list to reacting to all his Deepstriking was hard. He was also good at focusing on a unit until it was dead. With my small units this was really effective. He ended up destroying me in kill points by the end of turn 5.
The second game against Guis'(?) Orks went better, although it was still a close game. I managed to stop all his deffrollas after he moved them once and just barely weathered the ork's follow up charge. With lots of KP early in the game, I then had to walk over to the other side of the board to finish him off. But his lootas and kannon took out my units as they made their way over and only ended up winning by a couple KP.

Post by: Dark eldar elite
Yes... I beat Guis in a Killpoints game last week. It was close though. His bikes were the most frustrating, but he couldn't handle my speed or my blasters/lances. I don't run a particular type of list, and usually try many different combinations. Today I ran Lelith and my Talos Pain Engine. The Talos died miserably in one game and managed to Haywire hit a tank and bash a tank in the other game. Today I had no Homonculae in my army, and I also left Vect out. I have been running Vect lately, but not with any reliably positive outcomes as a direct result. I have won and tied more games than lost with Vect, but when I lose with him, it is usually a significant loss.
Legends is a great place to play. The gaming area is dedicated to Warhammer 40K, and you have no traffic through the table areas. The gaming area is in the back of the retail region, so you are separated from retail traffic. There are 5 tables and the heights are perfect for tabletop gaming. They are 4' x 6' tables (actually, one is a bit larger and we use that one at full size for 2 x 2 games). You get great 80's tunes on the radio speakers, and there are nearby food places, and snacks available at the store. We get a good turnout every Sunday, and typically there are a few of us playing throughout the week, during the day. It is located at Langstaff and Hwy 400 (just east of Weston Road @ Langstaff). We will also be starting a league at the location in the near future. Legends also has a large area for cardgame players (Magic) that doesn't interfere with the Warhammer area. There are also a few private conference like rooms with closed door where people tend to play boardgames and/or Dungeons and Dragons. Great place and the people are great too. Also, prices on boardgames and Warhammer stuff can't be beat (at least to the best of my knowledge). You should come by and check it out. I would love to take a crack at an experienced Dark Eldar player..... I have only been playing since February of this year. Lost my first 6 games, and then had a few ties, and then have won more than I have lost in the past 8 games, with some ties thrown in as well. I run only 2 Raiders and 1 Venom.

It was a great game, we ended in the 5th turn, Lelith wiped out a squad of Grey Hunters by herself in 2 assaults, and then she moved on to wipe out a Wolf Guard Squad (taking down 5 Wolf Guard all Power Weapons is not an easy feat), Unfortunatly My wolf Lord survived along with a Rhino to contest, for the Win. It was pretty intense, the entire battle was around his objective. I was running out of Troops on that side. My Wolf Lord(1 wound left) and 5 Grey hunters was all I had there for troops. Mind you on my objective I had 2 full (well rested) units of Grey Hunters that I couldn't get accross the table in time if we went extra turns.
Great game, If things work out I will probably be there for next Sunday.

OK this is driving me nuts, where is Meeplemart?
I don't see it on the website and google doesn't turn back any hits other than the website.
Also, good times on Sunday. I played a very good IG player and we slugged it out in an armored battle royal that ended in a tie.
I also tied capture and control against DEE, definitely got to take 2x Vendettas, 1 just doesn't last long enough.

Kungfu: Are you serious? You want to be there for 12 noon and you have to be somewhere else by 5 p.m.??? Does that give you enough time to set up your army? So, if you are there for 12, should I just aim to show up at 12:30? This time, if you arrive early, START SETTING UP YOUR MASSES!!!! he he... Okay, so please confirm that we are playing today at 12 noon.

Yeah i'm good for 11am tomorrow, as for a tournie they are pretty easy to run/setup we just need to actually get people to show up and be able to stay for the entire time. We would also need legends permission, and someone willing to play as coordinator/judge.

Fastest set-up ever for me. I'm still fiddling with the army like I spoke with you about, more dakka, and now I need to start gluing more stuff together. It was a great game, JonST is a great guy to play against and his space wolves don't resemble any of the cheese I've been told space wolves "always" do. It came down to the wire and the loss on my end was due to not knowing what the most dangerous part of his army was, and excellent positioning and movement on his part. Sadly I've never before lost 3 in a row, but I'm learning a new style of guard so I'd rather lose now and learn. I had no luck with my biggest guns, but that was offset by taking down 4 thunder hammer/storm shield termies fresh out of their drop pod with 3 rapid firing lasguns on turn 2!!! I love dice games. . I'm now torn between finishing tweeking and painting my guard army and starting on chaos marines. Automatically Appended Next Post: There's also a tourney at GW yonge and lawrence at the end of this month 2000 points, painted models only and the like
54492
Post by: JonST
Yeah, good games kungfu, I thought you had me with all those tanks and when you wiped out my first RP and his squad. Thankfully those new thunderwolf models really pulled through and their extra toughness made all the difference.
On a side note the guy I played with right after you focussed so much on my Cav, after watching out game, that he ended up getting just about wiped by turn 3.

I forgot to post the message, but Dark and my bat rep is up under 501 Muskokans. I only figured out how to properly do the pics at the end, so they're all at the bottom. . Also, forgive the spelling errors and the like, I hit submit when I meant to hit preview. . I'll see about starting the nids one next. To bad I didn't think there was time to stop for notes in pics in our game JonST. That one would have made for an epic. If any imperial allies want to send me a very brief summary of any games I'd be happy to work it into my narrative for background pre-2v2/2v1 epicsness at legends.

Post by: kungfujew
I just think it's a shame that you're marines turned to chaos. Or was it just that you thought we were with the alpha legion warband that we got you all warmed up for. It was a tragic mistake. We had gotten word that the Legion was opperating in the area and we came upon your forces. It's a shame the grey hunters and terminators died so fast. By the time we realized you were space wolves, your honour demanded blood. But, as you saw, your "Lone Wolf" was unable to put down, Lt Maxwell Power and he survived to write the report that was sent on up the chain of command. It remains to be see whether or not your "pack" will be declared "renegade" and a proper force will be sent to put you down. Kill all of us you want, we have plenty more where we come from!!!

Go ahead and enjoy it... feel free to bask in the glory for as long as you can... I think perhaps your 30 tanks may enjoy the sunlight, but darkness is all that your 65 infantry will ever see... I brought some assault squads to the game and was happy with distributing pain and suffering across the board... I admit, my army and tactics just couldn't bear the destructive force of your HUGE MASS of HEAVY TANKS... but we hold ourselves to blame for the loss.. We certainly do not grant you any respect related to having gloriously or outwittingly managed your army for the victory... quite simply, we chose to fight hand to hand, like gladiators of days gone by... meanwhile, we were simply outgunned... we believe in personal victory and there is nothing more personal than ripping out a spine, or opening an enemy's jugular with razorflails in hand.... We believe in accuracy by excellence... not the Imperial Gaurd mentality of accuracy by volume... anyone can fire 45 shots at once from miles across the battle field... I guess we just expected that perhaps due to the last battle that saw the Gaurds defeated, they would come with a bit more vigor and honor. A line was drawn in the sand, personally, by my wyches and foot soldiers, but your army simply failed to show up to the line... choosing to volley from afar instead... I am beginning to know the mind of the Imperial Guard... beginning to see where they are strong and cowardly, though both seemingly depend strongly on each other... The only admirable scene I recall was when your 5 dudes with flamethrowers let curiosity get the better of them... they slowly crept up to the impassable piece of odd terrain that their tank had come across.. not knowing what it was, they peered every so close... only to be welcomed by a huge squad of beasts that came crashing out of the warp... shredding them to pieces and then suffering an entire round of tank fire, until only the last clawed fiend, dazed and confused by the shots and blinded by the smoke on the field, wandered away...
I guess it is safe to say that I should always prepare for you with lots of Lances... though the assault battles are just so much fun!!!
Good game. And, because you won, I will allow you to gloat... LOL (why does everyone love trashing me???... I just don't understand... I'm such a nice, calm, friendly player.... he he) LOL Automatically Appended Next Post: ANYONE HEADING TO LEGENDS SUNDAY??????? ...or is everyone going to play Settlers of Cataan at Meeplemart? Hi!
My name's Clarence and I'm one of the organizers at Conquest Toronto (a GTA based table top tournament.)
www.conquesttoronto.com
Would you guys be interested in playing in a 40k tournament at Legends Warehouse?
I've talked to the owner and he's cool with me setting up a 1 day 3 round tournament Sunday April 29th - 1850pts.
We're looking for 8 players and it would probably be a $15 entry fee. All the money collected would go towards in-store gift certificates, $60 for 1st, $40 for 2nd, and $20 for third.
If we get the full 8 man turn out, I am also willing to contribute a free ticket to our June 9th event at Conquest Toronto.
The gauntlet has been thrown.

Not going to make a big deal about this, but please refrain from using racial slurs on this forum. I know you probably meant nothing by it, but it's not the place for ignorance to be displayed. I would be very upset if someone on this forum were offended. I don't know you, and you don't know everyone on this forum. Therefore, please refrain from using terms that are derogatory and that could be taken as offensive. Not cool. Thank you in advance for understanding.

573
Post by: Clarence
It will be based on pure generalship.
You guys are going to help me playtest the scenarios for our June Conquest, which will be our "Farewell to 5th ed." tournament.
Missions:
Seize Ground – there will always be 4 objectives.
Control two more objective than the opponent = major win
Control more objectives = minor win
Control same amount of objectives = draw
Control less objectives = minor loss
Your opponent controls two (or more) objectives compared to you = major loss
Capture and Control
Control both objectives = major win.
Control more objectives = minor win
Control same amount of objectives = draw
Control less objectives = minor loss
Your opponent controls both objectives = major loss
Kill Points
Score 3 more Kill Points (or more) than your opponent = major win
Score more Kill Points = minor win
Score equal Kill Points = draw
Score less Kill Points = minor loss
Your opponent scores 3 more Kill Points (or more) than you = major loss
Wipe Outs:
Completely destroying your opponent does not guarantee full battle points for all objectives. If your opponent is completely wiped out with game turns remaining, you are still allowed to play out the turns in order to claim objectives. Random game length still applies.
The games will be 1850pts. We will be playing the basic rulebook missions above, but with the described ways to break up margins of victory. 3 games total, which is why we're only looking for 8 players.
Hope to see you all there!

Hey guys,
I just spoke with the owner and I just wanted to be sure that you guys wanted this tournament to be run.
I don't want to force you guys off the tables if you aren't interested in playing in the tournament.
It was presumptuous of me to assume that you'd all be gung ho about participating.
I've been asked me to change the date to Saturday April 21st - firstly, the 28th-29th is a huge Magic release weekend. Secondly, I shouldn't be strong arming anybody into playing in my tournament.
So which day do you guys prefer - Saturday April 21st or Sunday April 22nd?
If you guys would like to take part in this tournament, please tell the owner (John) the next time you stop by. Also, keep in mind space is limited and it is first come first serve. Please pay Chris (Dragomir) to register.
Thanks for your time, and see you all there!

Optimus, Sharp - great to meet you at Meeplemart today! I appreciate you both being willing to play scenarios from the Battle Missions book - I really like the variety that the book offers.
Optimus: thanks for charging those Hammernators at my one remaining Tyranid Warrior in the 6th turn when you didn't need to, just to make it interesting. I shall name that Warrior "Bruce Lee" for being able eat more Terminators than my Trygon could.
Sharp, nice work with the poison against my poor MCs. I have to say, I never thought of Scourges as "hard targets" until today. I was sad to see my Tyrant and Trygon (and Zoanthropes, etc. etc.) led off in chains to the Dark Eldar slave pits :(
I'm guessing that this coming Easter Sunday is going to be pretty quiet: but if anyone is up for a game at Meeplemart, let me know!

Another epic day at Legends with the imperial guard and space wolves taking on the Tyranids and Dark Eldar. The mindlessly heroic Tyranids and foolishly cowardly Dark Eldar got pounded for 4 solids turns by massed gunfire and bayonette tips yet were still able to be in a winning position by the end of turn 5. Fortunately it went on to turn 6 where the last Tyranid troops threatening the Imperial Held objective were flamed, yet somehow the mindless creature were touched by the hive mind's will and took their own objective and the single heroic Dark Eldar scourge landed to contest the third. Alas, fate would not smile on the xenos and it continued to turn 7 for a resounding 3-nil victory for the forces of the Imperium. I'm always impressed to see how far the game has come since I started in 2nd edition where a "large" 1500 point game could take upwards of 6 hours. Now with 4000 points a side, we were able to pound out a 7 turn 2v2 game in around 5 and a half. Thanks to the participants for the epicness. Honourable mention goes the 1 unit from each army, Wyches and their transport who showed up first for the Dark Eldar, fought and escaped angry terminators, rallied at the last second and just when the Imperium's forces were about to completely envelope the xenos, landed in the think of it and immobalized the lead rhino and chimera with well placed grenades, causing a roadblock and stopping their enemies from overrunning the lasr stronghold of xenos stregth in the battle. Then they ate the full force of the imperial guard firepower on the whole right flank before being wiped. Had the game ended on turn 5, they would have been the reason for the xenos victory (fortunately it went all the way to 7). Their transport alone, single handidly killed more space wolves that anything else when it finally was exploded by plasma gun fire on turn 7. For the Wolves it has to go to the drop pod terminators who saw off a squad of wyches, slaughtered the trueborn and with but the wolf lord alive, single handedly crushed an albeit wounded Trygon Prime and the Hive Tyrant and his two bodyguards holding up and crushing the main push by the tyranid's deadliest monsters. The Tyranid MVP goes to the legally blind Hive Guard who Heroically stood there and didn't see the wolf lord terminator charge in, thunderhammer swinging. Lashing out, before he could even attack, they caused all 4 possible wounds, which was followed by three 1's on the four 2+ armour saves, killing the Superhuman Marine before he could kill anything else. This turned the tide of battle back from having the whole tyranid army on it's heels and enabled them the push forward again. For the Imperial Guard, it would have to be the Commissar Lord and his 31 followers, regular humans all, who in a battle of genetically engineer supermen, monsterous aliens bred for sluaghter and xenos with weapons far beyond what mortal men can imagine, slew 16 furiously charging hormaguants dripping with poison, 12ish poisonous genestealers and their broodlord armed with claws and talons and then led the chard back to the middle to engage the Tervigon monster in close combat, ending it's threat at the point of a simple Sgt's power sword. They alone stopped the close quarters troops of the Tyranid army from overwhelming the guard position at the onset and throught the game, allowing the guards other forces to focus on the rest of the xeno threats.
Sadly, I forgot to keep taking pics at turn 4 so the only battle report on this epicness will be what was witnessed by those who fought it.

Yeah was a great game today, though i think it's high time the tyrannofex took a backseat and i fielded two tervigons instead. The crappy bs/ ws of MC's makes the rupture cannon to hard of a pill to swallow, though it does mean i need to pick up more termagaunts to support the double tervigon special .
As for the tournie coming up at legends, i've already signed up and i believe 3 others have as well so spots are going fast. Plus considering the crowd we usually get at legends on sundays it should be a great day of gaming win or lose .

Thanks for the sincere reply.
Hope you can make it out to Legends soon... we had some great games Sunday. Also, there is a tournament coming in April! Automatically Appended Next Post: Yes... great game on Sunday.... I was surprised at how close the match was, until the 6th and 7th turns, when the nids and dark eldar just didn't have any fuel left in their tanks... actually, part of the problem was that we simply didn't have any TANKS!!!! LOL
Tournament is April 22, 2012 guys... I think 3 or 4 guys have already registered... we know for sure we will have a Dark Eldar combatant, a Necrons combatant, an Imperial Guard combatant and probably a Tyranids player (unless Rythem brings the Blood Angels). Hoping that JonST and Optimus will be signing up as well... and Styrofoam and MoreDakka.... only 6 or 7 spots left guys... so get in and register... Let's separate the grunts from the officers!

I love to make it out there. My 4 armies kind of max out at 1500 pts and I noticed the tourny is for 1850. I may be able to get my orks up to 1850 but the list would not be tourny style it would be filling my units to max out points just to get to 1850. I'll see what I can do and let you know. I also have a friend who plays Chaos SM and he likely has a 1850 pts army that he could max out. I'll see what I can do and let you know. It's only a 45 min drive and i'm dying to get in on my first tourny. I hope you will tolerate us. We know the rules well but by no means are experts and will need some guidance.

Ideally we'll have enough "regulars" to not have people showing up with boring tourney lists, so your "not tournament list" is welcome.

I'll try, but I'm already doing a full day on the 29th for the Meeplenmart Tourny. I have to convice Mrs. Optimus that she has to look after the kid for another full day.
Strangelooper wrote:Optimus, Sharp - great to meet you at Meeplemart today!
I'm guessing that this coming Easter Sunday is going to be pretty quiet: but if anyone is up for a game at Meeplemart, let me know!
No problem, they was a close game the entire way and I couldn't leave it at just contesting, A true Blood Angel is always not guts, not glory so I had to charge them. I still can't believe that the Terminators that wiped a suad of warriors in 1 turn, a Trigon? and a Harpy got taken out by 1 lonely warrior on the final turn I wish I had kept a better track of that game, it would have made a good bat rep.

Good game all around guys, it was a nail biter. Still can't believe the wolf lord lived through all those attacks only to die to a pair of blind non power weapon hive guard....
Sidenote, I forgot as I always forget, the thunderhammer drops whatever it hits to i1 until the next turn, and here I was nicely letting the nids swing first, thankfullly the invul saved everything lol.

Skycap44: Your 'not tourney list' would be welcomed at the Legends tourney on April 22, 2012. The Legends crowd talk some trash...not me... but the other guys... but we are all laid back and easy to get along with.... Some know the rules well, and others are similar to yourself... we choose to play the game and have fun... and win at all costs, of course... so no worries about your level of expertise. Also, for example, I have never been in a tourney and I do not have a 'tourney list'.... I just have the stuff I have and I make do... as best as I can... The Legends tourney will likely be a great place for you to start.
Kungfu: Dark eldar have flying tanks?? Cool... guess they were flying so fast they were obscured all game... I never saw them! LOL So defensive... gosh... I was just stating some facts... that's all...
Optimus: You are freakin OptimusPrime and you have to get permission to go to a tourney? Ha ha... Maybe you left off the end of your tag name on dakka... Optimus Prime? You are aware that 'prime' refers to 1. First in excellence, quality, or value. 2. First in degree or rank; chief. ??? Maybe you should be called 'Optimus "Subordinate" to Prime wife'... .he he...
Everyone: I just picked up a special prize that I will give away to the winner of the First Legends Warhammer 40K tournament.... I can't tell you what it is... but it will be forever cherished by the winner... trust me.

I'm talking about the 16 person, Astronomi-con prep, 40k Tournament that I'm running at Meeplemart.
Meeplemart is at 290 Carlaw Ave, Unit 202. The address is somewhat hidden at the bottom of the FAQ page.

Legends sounds great. Myself and my chaos SM are down. I've got an 1850 ork list put together from every model I own and it's just enough so should work out well. I don't have a chance to go to Legends to register as I live far enough away. I sent them an email, you think that should be enough to register? I'm glad to hear you are all laid back. I am by no means a win at all cost player. Just looking to get some practice before trying my luck at astronomi-con which I missed last year. To be honest I have only played against my chaos buddy so it will be interesting. The meeplemart tourny sounds cool too but looks almost filled already.

Good times at Meeplemart on Sunday, they have a nice place, really nice tables/terrain and great prices. Parking is a pain, but I think next time I will take the TTC.
Good game with Sharp, my Nobz army definitely showed its teef, but your DE have some great potential. I think they will really shine against an MEQ or heavy mech style army, those Haywire shots definitely put the hurt on armor, and the talos+grotesques will make goo out of the sweet fleshy contents within. Plus all that poison is clearly the best method of dealing with those pesky bugs
I am up for both tournaments at Legends and Meeplemart.

Yup! Registration and rules are available on my site. It's pretty much the Astronomi-con rules but only one day and 3 games. The main prizes are Tickets to Astro which will be this summer.

Yup, they've run 2 or 3 events now without it.
I was one that really liked the Comp system Astro developed, but the newer marine books just broke it beyond repair. It's pretty silly that you can take the same marine list and build it in 4 different codexes and get 4 different point totals, effectiveness and results. With no way to fairly compare BA, GK, SW, DA and SM they just decided to drop it.
I guess now the wacky missions will have to be the only thing keeping the WAAC players away

I'm a long(ish)-time Dakka user and Toronto-area wargamer who has taken occasional glances at this thread, and has finally decided to make use of it. I primarily play at GW Yonge and Lawrence, but my usual opponents and I also play at Duelling Grounds and Heavy Support Games. I need to get a Talos put together before the April 22 tourney bc I currently use the 3rd edition model and someone told me the new one is a different size...so I bought two of them..one came in yesterday and the other is coming next week. Automatically Appended Next Post: @more dakkadakka: just want to reiterate... There is no rush for the stuff you are doing for me.. We already agreed on no set deadline and that has not changed...so no worries...

Cool, but FYI you can use old models as-is regardless of model or base size difference. So old talos= ok for current tourney play.
36447
Post by: Rythem
Mostly true, except if there is a new model you need to bring it up to current height/base size. The new talos is on a flight stand, the old one sat on the table. Plus his old talos is just about the laziest MC you have ever seen, pretty much only comes out on turn 5 and then refuses to run more than 2-3 inches a turn. I have seen more than a few TO not allow the use of old ork trucks because of the size difference, you could hide the old ork truck behind a line of termagaunts, while the new ones are sized more like regular vehicles. I usually just allow the player to use what he has but play it as though it were the correct size/height.
54380
Post by: Dark eldar elite
He he... Yes, my Talos needs to be updated... He is so old and lazy that, like Rythem said, he tends to stay out of the fight.
37016
Post by: More Dakka
Pretty sure the old talos was on a flight stand, not that many of those would have survived as such being fully pewter
36447
Post by: Rythem
Yes but dee wasn't, he was running it around on the table, which probably wasn't good for the paint on the bottom either lol. He could of bought another flight stand and put it on it, or just run it like it was 3-4 inches higher than it was.
As for painting it for ya, i doubt very much you want me painting it, i have no idea on layers, high lighting, or shades. Hell most of the time i'm happy when i can stay in the lines . Plus i need to get my gaunts all painted or at least armed with the correct weapons in case my jp's don't make it in the mail in time.
54380
Post by: Dark eldar elite
I must find a flight stand... then I will have 2 Talos to bask in the sun for 4 turns before entering on turn 5, moving 6" and then running 1". Yippee... but maybe I will actually deploy everything on the table except my Talos's, which will enter via webway portal... huh? yeah... so then what?
Spender picked the Talos up today to paint... He also dropped off a bunch of Gaunts, Genestealers and a Tyrranofex!!! Looking good... the army is coming together well... I should have 2500 points for Tyranids in no time... in fact... if I can get 1850 points put together by April 22, 2012, I may field my Tyranids for their first ever game and tourney! Get on those hive and tyrant guards Spender!! LOL

Hi
I'm pretty new to this game. I tried getting into it in the 90's, and basically i've played only about 4 times, using 5th rules. Are you all meeting this Sunday? And where? I live pretty close to Meeplemart, and wanted to meet other gamers and maybe watch, maybe play. My army is not fully painted, and likely not WYSWIG, but I would like to meet more people

Welcome back! Most of the guys in this thread play at either Legands, Heavy Support or Meeplemart, usually on a Sunday. Most ties on Sunday you can find a game at Meeplemart. Keep an eye on this thread and you usually see when and where we are playing.

The gang at Legends are laid back and cool. We have various levels of experience from relatively new (like myself) to experienced. We usually communicate on the forum to set up games through the week and typically there are 4-8 guys available for Sunday gaming. Legends is at Langstaff and Hwy 400 (Woodbridge, Ontario). We welcome new gamers and you are more than welcome to come out, check out the scene, play, observe, whatever. Like you, I first played in 1998... only played 2 games and then moved away from home and only revisited the game again in February of this year.... but with the forum I have met some great guys and have had LOTS of games! You should come out this Sunday to Legends...there should be some of us there.

Ya, the employees there are nice, the people who go there are nice, if not a bit odd... but there's a certain atmosphere. Friendly, but... well my last trip there kind of sums it up. I went it to get some advice on how to get my models from looking really good to display case quality. After looking at my model he asked if it was painted with citadel paints and when I said no, he seemed less interested in helping me and after I finaly coaxed some basic tips out he told me that he'd give me a quick tutorial, but I used another company's paints. Although citadel did just come out with a new book about painting with a dvd. :/
I usually feel bad going in and just using their tables, never buying anything at their rather large mark-ups, but now, not so much. I'd recommend going there if it's the only place to go. So that's where I'll be tomorrow. Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, I might be able to swing up to legends very early today as no one showed up for work today and I'm tired of digging alone. I am always looking for more funds to fuel my armies of death. My refusal of your other models was me trying give your other slow commission a chance, even though I need the money more being unemployed.

I'm available sunday till 5pm, and i did warn CGBSpender about posting that comment. Knew he'd invite the wrath of DEE.
And Kungfu, i was wrong about the death mask, it is only the first assault turn, so you didn't need to take that second leadership check, luckily you passed it and it didn't change the game in anyway. Goods games, that Librarian was a hero. He saved about 3 times his points cost whith shield and ran off more than his poinst cost with fear. Sorry about the second list, it was a little cheesy, but it was the first 1000 point one I came across.
