Love the plaguey armigers .

Bat mobile you should put up on cinderblocks and have it as a streetstripped casualty of Gotham gangs.

Yup. Truly dire. I shall be investing in another Eaglemoss one and repainting it for Bane accordingly. Size wise they're totally indistinguishable. There's barely 2mm difference and even at that scale you'd struggle to notice. Even the other admins admit that my other Eaglemoss repaint is far better so what could go wrong?

Theophony wrote:Love the plaguey armigers .

thanks! Plague Armigers have been hanging around for ages, like a bad cold... I'll likely try to sell the crapmobile, tbh. I'm genuinely appalled by it.

Got a few more things done today whilst watching Umbrella Academy finale (tis vg) and first episode of The boys (tis ok). Finally finished my Armigers/War Dogs/whatever they're called today:

Mr Bitey

Mr Tickle

And Mr Whippy

And did a bunch of MVPs for Dreadball, as we're going to need some next match, but no idea which the kids will actually pick. I now have most of them painted, so they should be able to pick any one they might need.

Agent 88

Nice fig. More fun to paint than I expected.

Lyra the Fixer

Fun fig to paint. Lots more detailing than I realised.

Eclipse

Come at me bro! I love this. She just looks spot on for a random alien. She's also bloody brilliant in game, as she's a manager as well as a player.

Snörkel the avenger

Maybe should've painted him up as Captain America. That's America's Pseudopod.

Asylum

Kali ma!!!

Plus, started two more, 2nd ed Blaine and Rico:

As for wips, well, started some DC of all things

Do love king shark. Do do doodoodoodoodoooooooo

And with the belly greyed up.

And with DCU 2 round the corner, finally getting on with my parademon invasion force.

If you're very observant you might spot Luna Lovegood in her lion hat hiding in the back too.

I also fixed an inevitable broken wand with a paperclip:

Reparo, etc.

Made Ron a Scabbers

And here's a better look at Luna

Away to my folks' this weekend, so no dice. With a bit of luck I *might* get some more paint on the para-drones.
Till another time

That Tumbler is made of shame...

The Nurgle-bots are fantastic. The new Gaslands cars are an inspiration. The MVPs make me want to push my group into playing Dreadball. King Shark is second only to Luna rolling with the armies of Apokalips.

I've seen two other, painted tumblers today. I continue to be convinced they look like trash. It's some of the sloppiest resin I've ever worked with, and I remember what forgeworld used to be like.
Glad the bots are getting love.
Gaslands rocks.
Dreadball is just obscene fun, and dirt cheap.
King Shark is a lovely fig and is nice to remember why I like KM sometimes.
Luna... well, that's black primer for you

Anyway, slightly further with the Parademons:

Coming along nicely and, more importantly, quickly. I've dotted the eyes in red also. So I think vj deck tan for the skin, a couple of yellow spots on the armour, and we'll be there in a jiffy. Get them done Monday,
Till then

Tak it the rules don't allow you to play Harry Potter vs DC?

Lol nope. But given the new Marvel game is running off SW legion maybe it's not so crazy
Looking at the parademons again, I'm sorely tempted to do even less than I'd planned to, just washing the skin sections earthshade rather than first painting them in tan. Speed is key: if I end up getting the new invasion force box set in order to get Big Barda, I'll have another 3 of the buggers to do as quickly and similarly as possible. These ones have some slight reposes, but any more would need much more work there - so the painting has to be as readily replicable as possible to tie them together.
Looks, incidentally, like most of the first wave of DCU2 is Death/Reign of supermen. So, there goes my bank balance.

All looking good, those plague walkers are amazing (especially the Cthulhu chap, that's inspired!) and the Parademons are suitably alien-looking with that radioactive green hue.

Shame about the Tumbler, though it's handy to know the Eaglemoss ones are close enough in scale, I need to pick one up to go with my Gotham City Chronicles stuff, I'm thinking the Arkham Asylum one but if the Tumbler looks to be a suitable scale I imagine that will be as well.

Looking forward to seeing King Shark done, for some reason he's one of my favourite DC villains despite being a bit of a C-lister... I think I just enjoy the quirk that he should clearly be an Aquaman villain but keeps ending up fighting Flash instead, and the sheer absurdity of his whole look...

It was tough getting the plague armigers over the finishing line, they've been languishing in a box for months poor things.

Dr H wrote: I thought I felt a tingle the other day.

Don't worry. You can get a cream for that.

tinfoil wrote:Great conversions. Entirely atmospheric -- authentically en-Nurgled. Nicely done.

Many thanks!

So, really happy with the Parademons:

More fun than anticipated, and ready for a serious assault on our realm. Genuinely looking forward to throwing hordes of the bastards at the kids.

I know what you mean, Paradigm, about King Shark lol. He was great in the most recent Dan Abnett Aquaman run, which is just as well as The Flash is pretty meh these days. He's coming along nicely:

Think he's done. Didn't go super bloody, relatively discreet.

Enjoyed the base too. Liking the big fellas, my DC to-do pile now consists of Darkseid, Steppenwolf, Lobo and Killer Croc (rebirth).

Bird (Bane's sidekick) for scale. He's fully 35mm, bear in mind.

Yesterday was mostly given over to an epic, 3 hr long game of ultimate dreadball that went right down to the final ball. The narrative of the game is just hysterical, we play into the random stuff that occurs - the first turn was really dull with kids hiding the balls in a pack in their own scoring zones (known as Castling up) which is generally frowned on - purely by chance, the Bored Fans event happened, then a massive and protracted fight happened between the kids' MVPs, so I of course just HAD to play the Bloodthirsty fans card in my hand... delightful, ludicrous madness.

I nearly won, but the kids teamed up to take me down. Bah! next match is a no-holds barred xtreme murder fest, with no ref and booby-trapped board. Good times ahead! Couple more MVPs:

I am also a bit further along with the big smurf:

Don't worry about the speckling. That'll all disappear down the line.
The clock is running down on the holidays. It's funny, I'd've sworn we'd've played lots of 40k/KT - and it's DB that's won the day hands-down.

*shrug*

I wonder whether I should've taken the opportunity to shorten her legs and make her tiny.

Theophony wrote:Darksied looks great, perfect dreadball ref

Which reminds me, I still need to get a RefDredd...

Kid_Kyoto wrote:Properly imposing Darkseid!

Yeah it's a cracking model.
Darkseid is... Done?

Pretty much. He looks way more grainy in the pic than reality. Odd. Still playing with new camera settings. Still, I like his gem.

Feeling very in the DC zone. And so, did Steppenwolf also:

I'm trying to go more New 52 (darker) comic than the studio paint job (bit shiny for my taste) but anything has to be better than that abomination of a movie.

Nice Planet, We'll Take it.

Now just need Big Barda.

And Desaad. And the rest of the Furies. And Mister Miracle. And the New Gods...

A few other bits done too, spots of colour here and there on odd models (Lobo and Killer Croc's bases, mostly). Nothing to share yet.

Played a great game of DBU-X (Ultimate Dreadball Xtreme) yesterday with the kids and erithromycin (who also got me loads of weird and wonderful gaslands goodies as a belated birthday present)

We had a LOT of fun. Traps and obstacles, and no ref, made for total carnage.

Last day of holidays today older one's off camping in the pouring rain, so younger and I have been playing DC Super Villains and are off to buy Pokemon cards and donuts. Seems legit.

Later

Someone should make custard filled donuts with the icing on the outside to look like a pokeball. Random cream filling to be random Pokemon. Cinnamon filling for Charizard, some lemon filled for Pekachu, watermelon for squirttle and so on.

Well I'm not entirely sure how understated Darkseid Is... But thanks
Fancy doing Deadman actually, he's very much on my to-do pile. Need to think about Justice League lineups to take on the hordes of Apokolips.

Llamahead wrote:I still want to see him used as a Daemon Prince.

So just to finish my holiday exploits, how about a Killer Croc?

I'm not sure how finished he is.

I wonder if the darker green in particular, and to some extent the rusty base, needs more highlights.

I almost got 'im with a rock THIS BIG!

Bit more work on Lobo, who gets a pic now

And painted up the Alpha Simian, another DB Giant:

Ook.

That means I've painted 20 figs so far this month (21 if I decide Croc is finished), 90 over the 6 weeks of the summer holidays, and 173 so far this year. That's not bad at all. Whilst I don't imagine I'll get close to last year's total of 400+, that's still rather satisfying. I'm not going to list what's unbuilt and unpainted - that way madness lies I'm just going to keep painting what I feel like painting, when I feel like painting it.
Thanks for the support as always

Brief update on the Hawg, and indeed the standing version of the fig:

Nah, he rocks the Double Denim!
Slightly rushed pic, sorry

He's coming along. His face is a nightmare to do, however.

Back at school, no time to do much, really. Managed to get in some Transformers TCG with the kids, finally put together an Aerialbots deck (nasty nasty) and rejigged my janky tanks into something workable in Wave 3. Actually want to get them to tackle the pile of Raven Guard in the house, too, though

Have managed to score a review copy of the Dune boardgame from GF9, which I'm pretty stoked for. Need to get some Gaslands done, and throw a lot of thin black paint at Harry Potter Models.

Onwards

That's a fun deck, I love janky tanks. Omega is really good with W1 Swoop, you can get up to all sorts of nonsense with damage relocation.

The standing version of Lobo is coming along too

There is something very screwy going on with my phone camera settings. I shall try to fix, because that graininess ain't there in RL.

Got an image exclusive from upcoming Supers Unlimited:

KS drops in a couple of days and dayum, the stuff looks good.

Started another Dreadball team, Tsudochan (telekinetic alien monks), pics anon, along with getting the boy to sort out raven guard. Incoming codex excitement...

I hope it gets some traction with the Marvel game coming out, if it’s cheaper and uses 28-32mm it should hit the spot. Especially if there’s enough generic guys and gals in spandex who might look a bit familiar .

This is yet to come...

I've got promo copies of a couple of the stretch goals that haven't been released yet, plus Punchline (not Joker with the infinity gauntlet...) so started my Blue Scarab:

I love this model. I love that she's not total cheesecake: she's relatively in proportion. She's hero side. Villains?
Here's Magnetron, who's kinda evil iron man, with Punchline.

The game runs off typically teams of 4vs4. Might need some more

Finished Lobo, insofar as I'm fed up with him.

And Rebirth

Started my crazy telekinetic team

Accidentally painting them in stock team colours. How very unlikely.

He's THE MAIN MAN! Basically, unkillable alien bounty hunter, the last Czarian, a sort of anti Superman, though not necessarily a villain per se. At one point Waller tries to force him into the suicide squad so he blows up his own head. Think Deadpool without the charm or 4th wall breaking. A big, ornery, stubborn, selfish, bastich. On a bike That, I did enjoy painting, witb the sorta nmm, osl, flamejob and weathering.

aku-chan wrote:Both Lobos are looking pretty snazzy.

Much obliged chum. They drove me slightly crazy.

Finished up a match of Dreadball from the weekend (there was a mid-game rage-quit), the wee fella did well for the win in the end. Back in the dim and distant past, I remembered a magazine had rules for an ice pitch in bloodbowl that cracked and had lava leak onto the pitch - hence the red tokens! Essentially, knock someone down and you risk cracking the surface and serious burns.

It was a lot of fun. Didn't unbalance the game, but did add extra threat. Much more shoving than usual! The older spawn decided to start painting his Kalyshi:

Plus I threw some paint on my Tsudochan.

Terrible pic. I am not getting to grips with my new phone at all.

Good times! Scarab has a bit more highlighting, but not much else done today. Supers Unlimited drops Thursday, I should have a preview article up tomorrow.

Clown SMASH!!! He looks perfect.

Yeah, I have the fear. Punchline was a lot of fun; want to get Magnetron done this weekend, although I'm working Saturday so we'll see.

The KS is funded and smashing through stretch goals:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kitbashgames/supers-unlimited-miniatures?ref=project_build

Here's a thread about it:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/779375.page

Meanwhile, I tidied up Luna and tried to fix my phone camera settings.

Detective Lovegood: there's been a murder...

Please with how she's turned out, even more pleased that I seem to have got my camera settings sorted tempting fate there

Decided I didn't like the spell effect around Umbridge. I suspect I'll have piles of Hogwarts school rules her feet instead.

Hey ho,
Graven.

Looks great.

I can't think off the top of my head what Luna canonically ends up doing, I don't think it's detective... but I kind of wish it was now, because that'd be a very strange-but-hilarious book...

I reckon she's just taken the term deer stalker too literally

Anyway ...
Magnetron rising!

I love this fig. Psychotic android sent from the future to save the earth. His interpretation? Destroy the infestation.

I left a bit of base tab on for blast/ glow.

You humans are the past. We... We are the future.

Punchline probably has a joke about Recaptcha / I am not a robot here.

I'm using these to test, and try to up, my painting game. The style seems to really suit these classic Spandex supers. Pale grey primer and very thin (VJ air mostly) paints. I'm hoping this will work well for the brightness of potter stuff. But I'm now debating priming some DC stuff this way too. Just for a change.

The KS is going really well, closing in on 250%, two more full teams, 2 bonus figs for everyone AND... giants! So much shiny.

Get on it

It's definitely working, these supers are all looking really vibrant, perfect for their Golden Age stylings. I've become a big fan of painting over white with thinned painted (essentially tints/glazes) recently, seems like you're getting on well with the style too.

Have you considered grabbing any GW Contrast paints? I've not used any yet, but they seem perfect for this style of painting.

The contrasts are excellent, especially the bright colors, the are making skin tones easy as well. At least for me, which is all that matters .

Loving these 80s pulp heroes, best art time before big boobs and no ankles of the Rob Liefeld era (or error if you prefer )

Had a play in store. I'm not a fan of the flow. They're a bit too quick for my taste, pigment depth is nice but I find i need a bit more control. Glad you like my supers!

The secret to all skin is Druchi Violet. Nerdfest09 taught me that

Not a Liefield fan at all really. Deadpool is a bit overrated but 90s pneumatic DC was pretty dire also in places, and that's what I grew up with.

The other female figs in the ks are not as... ample as Scarab, but they aren't cheesecake either. Not buying Striga will be really hard. We're now at the point where a team pledge (£24) gets you 6 figs - 4 in the team, free Roughneck (Hero - not Casey Jones) and alt promo evil version of Soldier Hex, shadow soldier (mirror universe counterpart). Crazy good.

Getting there. Face needs a tidy, highlights on the cloth (all looking a bit flat just now).

I'm glad the posters worked, bit of a gamble. I'm still not sold on Contrast. I've not quite found a thin green that I like. I'm also generally struggling to find a good pink too. But the contrast paints are just not doing it for me.
LavuranGuard wrote:Very nice, so many uses for such a figure in rpgs.

Thanks man. That's very kind. Hopefully you'll like the finished article:

*Hemm-hemm*

I still don't know which I prefer, black or white primer. I'm playing with some Slytherin ideas, so we'll see.

On the subject of green...
pace cop space cop space cop!
So, I do have greens I like, clearly - that's VJ Sick Green and a quick Livery Green highlight (the lime green colour on Punchline etc), both from the VJ Orc&Goblin Paint set. I suspect for the Slytherin (robe trim) I'll wash it with Nightshade to give it a dark, bluey green iridescence, whilst for Hal here it's green ink all the way.

And on the subject of space, played some Outer Rim tonight:

Damn fine game. Very like Firefly but less down time, less chance of one player running away with everything. A much less cluttered game - visually very appealling, especially the dashboard sliders - and my enjoyment was greatly helped by the fact that I won by flying casual. actually, it was more that the individual play style of the different pilots is distinctive and intuitive, but a whole lot of fun at the same time: Jyn blew stuff up, Dr Afra does lots of questionable space archeology, Han flies round dodging fleets - I spent most of the game hiding from hutts, blowing up imperials and then betraying one of my own crew to the hutts for the win. Brilliant, bonkers, narrative fun.

Wife and older spawn out tonight; suspect a bit of AoS with the youngling. I see AoS is getting a Conquest partwork, too, so a good chance to pick some stuff up if he's so minded.

Great sculpt, and my new detail brushes are helping. However, my hand is bothering me again. Not awful, but definitely stiff and sore. Need to be careful.

Genuinely got the groove back for a bit of DC though. Funny how I've got out of the Gaslands habit. Might change when Refuelled comes late September. But that's ok.

Hey gang,
A busy family weekend and a fair amount of hand pain have meant no p&m. So instead, a bit of a stock take!

Taking stock is always a slightly distressing business. Still, just looking at what is built and primed, and as I'm feeling very DC at the moment, I'm going to try to get cracking on them:

Hippolyta, Artemis, Menalippe and Antiope - the last of whom has a broken bow, so will need that rebuilt, but given that the other 2 generic Amazons are converted up anyway into Artemis and Menalippe, not that big a deal to further convert.

Dark Knights Metal: Red Death, Merciless, Drowned and Batman Who Laughs. I may also paint Nightmare Batman (from BvS) to go with them as Grim Knight (Dark Bat with Guns). I realise now that I was going to paint that Hal as Dawnbreaker (evil lantern bat) never mind eh?

Justice League Dark: Deadman, Black Orchid, Swamp Thing (Rebirth). Given that I've started the JLD already (Constantine, Jason Blood, Etrigan) might be an idea to finish them!

Joker's Daughter / Harley, Bud and Lou (Rebirth): Not a big fan of Duella but she is another one for Suicide Squad. I'm enjoying the Harley comic way more than I expected. So maybe. The hyenas are remarkably good in DCU as a tar pit unit.

Movie Mera and Ezra Flash: I have plans for these. On the other hand, those plans have not yet actually coming to anything... Ever.

Blue Beetle & Booster Gold: Scarab showed what I can do, and I've enjoyed retro supers, though they're all primed black. To redo or not?

BvS Nightmare Batman, Zurr-en'Arrh - more Batmans!

Poison Ivy Rebirth - big, green and beautiful. Maybe.

What do you think my dakklings? What should I tackle?

Meanwhile, picked up a HW Tumbler:

So thinking about these guys a bit too. The next challenge is new sponsor so really I should make a frankencar or something. I'm considering making a Burtonesque gigahorse of some kind. However, one of the new sponsors, Bootleggers, is all about hicks distilling their own booze/biofuel/explosives. And this car rocks the hobo mojo:

Needs chunky new wheels and mesh. Might need a trailer. They get trailers. For the booze. The big fuel tank in the front could also be booze, and the empty rack in the back needs booze too, dagnabit. For the trailer, I'm thinking a little switching block(like the kind inside light fixtures) with wheels on it.
Oh my mate's KS was 450% funded, every single SG unlocked. Awesome stuff.
Anyway, zooming on, and don't forget to let me know your thoughts on what DC I should do,

Graven

Yeah. Pesky kids
Cheers for the kind words chaps

So started my contest entry. My Bootleggers have got a... Fuel tank.

Yeah. Fuel It's got a bit of a dragster vibe - I imagine I'll run it as performance car with a sourmash jet booster - but I reckon a flamethrower is required, and maybe dropped napalm. Roof mounted flamethrowers mess with my head, though I like the look. I'd stick a fuel tank in the back. Mind you, that's going to happen regardless.

But not sure about the front mount, even though it makes more "sense".
Thoughts?

Moonshiners=Molotovs Just saying. Either swigging it, slinging it or selling it, moonshine comes in either glass mason jars or clay pots. Both are effective at breaking open when you need them to.

Lovely to hear from you again! Maybe it's just the angle of the pic?

Continuing with my Trailer trash:

So obviously both trailers need wheels. I'm not sure what the buggy's trailer is from but looks like GW metal. I've added a bit off a corvus flyer, some metal sock clips, a new brass etch steering wheel, a broken set of piston tops for molotovs, and a Mad Cars driver (yeehaw). I think the other car is going to get a set of big shocks (should've done that before doing the new wheels, never mind) BUT they're nearly built! Good times

Both trailers are now functionally articulated, greebling added all over, so off they both go to priming:

I am inordinately chuffed that I managed to make functioning clips.

Started Mera:

VJ falcon turquoise to begin. Next will be green wash for her, blue for the water.

And started slithering.

Or rather slytherins.

Work is, if not good, then at least not bad. What more could one all for, really?

Had a great night out with friends and their kids, and as we were walking home I noticed a copy of Dreadball Ltd edition in the window of a charity shop for £15. So of course, had to go back the next day helped them price up some other games too, for eBay.

So it was missing the promo fig, but as I have him anyway, hardly a big deal.
Acceptably painted Marauders (orc and gob team) - not massively useful, as I have a full team of them. But give them a wash and tidy up and they'll be a decent present for a mate to get them playing.
Poorly painted humans and referee - I don't own the classic refbot, so nice to own, and likewise my human team is bare minimum, so good to have the same again to give me a full team. But, paint is horrible. So... strip? Will Dettol dissolve the pvc
Cards, rules, dice and acrylic tokens - more dice always good, and the acrylic tokens are really nice, much more so than the hard plastic ones from 2nd ed even. Granted the rules and cards are of no real use but still. There's a couple of useful bits: environmental conditions rules card for open-air games is really cool, and "fan area" cards handy for cheerleaders etc.

But the real treat is the Azure board:

"Dad, can we play an exhibition match?"
Yup, kids so excited they immediately wanted to have a game with their league teams.

So. Not a bad haul. It's a nice board to play on, and a nice thing to have. Given that you can't get the azure board for less than £20 second hand, to have it near mint makes me very happy indeed.

On we go

Excellent bitslore! Level up!
Nah, I'm fine, Ravenclaw all the way. But the Slytherins are fantastic for co-op play with the potter crew. And I really like the Malfoy family sculpts (Narcissa is one of my random favourite characters from the books). Painted in odd bits here and there, boots, shoes... mostly it's an excuse to play with model air black. For those of you contrast addicts, it behaves much the same. So progress has been made on the Slytherins, Snape, Malfoy family, Weasley Twins and Ron. Lots of bits and bobs too, bit of work on Harry, Hagrid, Fang, Ginny... sighhhhhhhhh...

Dr H wrote:Good work all round.

I wondered if we'd lost you to the Fallout or something again?

Anyway, here's the awful paintjob on the human team:

I have a jar with Dettol and a metal Catman that I'd forgotten about for 2 months. Let's see what happens to a Striker.

The orcs were... acceptable. Not caked in paint, just basic colours blocked in. So clearly, having nothing better to do, I've decided to repaint the whole team. Think they'll actually turn out ok. As I have a large and fairly comprehensive Marauder team, if they work I'll be gifting these to erithromycin as part of his birthday present. I'm converted one into Slippery Joe, the Captain, and I'll print him out the captain specific cards too.

And for myself, well, I repainted the first edition refbot, as I now finally have one!

In retrospect, should've stripped it too. But it's fine at tabletop level. Curse you dakka super zoom!

Eyes in the back of her head!
Love this fig, much better than the 2nd ed one. I wish I'd picked up a dozen when they were on 99p clearance on the mantic site to make the Malfunctioning Refbot team So a grand total of... 1 finished model so far this month!

My elder boy has, meantime, finished his Kalyshi Team, the Power-Tough Girls:

Not shabby. Bless him, he's not satisfied. I particularly love his converted jumping striker.

Loads of stuff in various stages on the desk. The Constructicon Brokkr team theme is settled on, but it's suprisingly faffy to do (getting the right purple is irksome). Nevertheless, aiming to get them done for the end of the month. Meera is getting there, and even a little on Artemis. The list is endless . The Bootlegger cars are primed - two weeks to get them painted, I was thinking a general lee homage originally but now I'm thinking of Scotland's finest beverage... Irn-Bru (so blue with some orange).

I need to be careful I don't hit paint-paralysis, that gnawing despair of "too much to do". Still, at the weekend, we were at friends', and he showed my wife his bike room - with 3 bicycles totalling £7000. She's reappraised her feelings about my hobby getting a bit more "me" time to work on stuff and stay sane.
I do have a long weekend at the end of the month, a Friday with my boys (so painting and more Dreadball Ultimate planned), Comic-Con on the Saturday with #2 and a Monday with him too, which we've set aside for testing DCU 2 (in the post from Spain, along with the Chamber of Secrets) so that should be fun.

Still - chin up, eh?

So, a team of Marauders:

Complete with converted Slippery Joe (fabulous 'tache). That's more like it. 10 minis done - 200 this year so far.

BUT that's not all! Admittedly these have been ongoing for a while but not pictured - and it's still early days.

That's a *lot* of black. Different washes will be used to try to add variety. Narcissa's red skirt colour will also be the base for gryffindor cloaks/ties. VJ mahogany is a wonderful thing. Except on Hagrid, to whom it will not adhere, for some reason.
And just off to the side, that's the Constructicon crew. They are ongoing

Lovely to see you squire! Browse away at your leisure!

Quite a mellow weekend. Went to a local little Lego fan con, which was great, ate and drank, etc.

However, figured out how to finish off my Slime dragster. So, here's Rude Paul:

Sashay, queen.

And I've started laying colour down for the trailer trash:

The potter stuff is really frustrating me. I think it's because I'm trying to batch paint character models that are uniform, literally. So from here, I'm going to do them individually, and break between them. First up, Snape:

Definitely progress. Not done, but progress.

Of course, talking about uniform:

It's different, entirely, from painting school uniforms

That's about it. Primed up some more Raven Guard for the boys, got an awesome box of Robotech madness from Victor Von Domm which I've not quite got my head round... not much

Love the Slime dragster , good choice on colors.

Given enough legos we could build an addition onto Graven’s house.

Lol I wish my wife were as convinced (she's by far my harshest critic... no jokes please ) but thanks.

Bits and bobs. The Brokkr have now had wash of 5:1 green-black:green ink on the armour and druchi violet on the cloth/flesh. Test model for the Darkmount Devastators is just about done. Thoughts?

Although the really vibrant lime green has been knocked back, it's come back up a bit in the highlights. Should the green be even more limey at the top of the highlights? DB glove has no glow yet, will either be red or yellow. Anywhere I could (maybe) add hazard striping (gulp)?

The Bru-cru have had a wash of nuln, likewise, but not really pic worthy. I've got a week to get them done. Easy!

I find, to my surprise and delight, that I'm properly excited about the new DCU stuff. As in, actually want to buy things. Mongul and Cyborg-Superman are well-priced (£27 for the pair, and Mongul is VAT), Eradicator is a good sculpt (£15) - and I can always find them at a discount from a UK supplier. Might even treat myself to General Zod and co. I'm all a bout the bad guys Display piece Superman is vast (like the 80th Batman) but I'm not playing £40 for a model that is, well, a display piece (yes, he's playable, no, I don't care). I may buy myself a promo Momoa Aquaman - £16, but that means I have to get it from KM direct -, and I'm not crazy about the fact that Big Barda, Cheetah, DCU Joker and Mettalo only come with other stuff repackaged though I suspect they'll also be available direct to order individually down the line, so I'll hold off on ProMomoaman.

To fund this, with heavy heart (and light kidneys), I'm going to offload some BMG. I know, shock horror. But the simple reality is that I've really lost my love for the game; I either want a gang warfare game OR a supers game, not one that badly mashes the two things together. Plus, I've still got all my metals. I'm keeping all my Joker stuff, because Joker, and I've got the new Bane stuff as I just like plain like 'em - and who doesn't love generic 32mm Mercenaries? I've parted ways with Court of Owls and Penguin, which leaves Sirens - but all their stuff is DCU compatible, so that's staying - and... Batman. Well, ish. I'm going to get rid of my GCPD and DKR stuff. Whilst generic cops are undoubtedly useful, I've still got all the Bats, cops and SWAT from first ed. If I'm not inclined to paint it, when there's stuff I *do* want to work on, I think it seems reasonable - and I've still got the full gamut of Joker and Bane stuff if I do get sucked back in to BMG.

Anyone want to buy some DC ?

Excellent reference, I see what you did there. Now, of course, they all need to be similarly named.

A quick WIP snap, ramped the highlights, starting to block in hazard stripes

Some sponge chipping is also called for, methinks. What about the rivets? Oily steel, or leave as they are?

The stripes set them off nicely.

If you are doing sponging, I would leave the rivets alone personally, doing both might start to look a bit "busy"?

Thanks! I have that worry...
youwashock wrote:Love the hazards. Rivets and just a little chipping, I think.

I'm so conflicted! I've not rvieted them, but could be persuaded.

Right, well, here's where up to:

Yes to more stripes and sharper highlights. No to rivets. What about the base stripes? I know that it should be green and white, not green and black, what do we think? And is the red and white too candy stripe? Likewise, I'm not sure about the solid purple - thinking red and luminous yellow?
Other than than I think they're done, but still up for further c&c.

Much more importantly, they all now have relevant Decepticon names:
2 Strikers Scrapper and Hook (green/black base)
2 Jacks Short Haul and Wide Load (yellow/black base)
3 Guards - Bonecrusher and Gravedigger (red/white base)
1 Keeper - Mixmaster (purple base)
1 Captain - Scavenger (red/white base - the drill)
+2 prone

And still to come...1 MVP Hightower (and, when I get round to buying him 1 Giant Devastator).

What's up next? Getting those damn booze jockeys done :flame:

In other nerd-life, got an exclusive for wave 4 Transformers TCG, which'll drop at the weekend, along with Blaster vs Soundwave to giveaway. In the next week or so should also be getting the Dune board game, Wild Hunt for Hellboy, and new DCU stuff from KM (allegedly) - plus got my press pass for Glasgow Comicon next weekend, huzzah!

Yeah, I definitely have hobby ADHD lol. Thanks for swinging by again old chum, good to know you're not dead

Busy with an array of things.

The Bru Cru, my entry for this month's Gaslands UK contest, is done!

Wull and Boab, my irn-bru guzzling brothers-in-law, in tiny trailer trash form.

Boab gets the flamethrower and a napalm dropper.

Wull gets Molotovs... All the Molotovs. I used a broken resin engine block for this.

50 bru-can team!

And Snape is done too.

And, so are the Darkmount Devastators!

I cannot believe I freehanded the bloody logo.

I'm happy enough with them. Not going to put them in for Brush with Death (Mantic's painting contest) but they'll do.

Scrapper and Hook

Yes, they're all named after Constructicons.

Hightower (MVP Ragnarök)

He may have stepped in someone. His colour scheme is closely modelled on G1 Devastator

Nice shot of the shoulders and gore

Pva + superglue + blood god.

Short Haul, Buckethead and Wide Load

Scavenger, Bonecrusher, Hightower, Gravedigger and Mixmaster

So yeah, not a bad weekender. +14!

Very good. Now, of course, I have to think about repainting my other Forge Father team.

Gitsplitta wrote:Snape is really good graven...

Thanks chum. I'm trying to work on various ways of shading blacks to create varied tones. Hence, also working on Bellatrix and Death Eater Draco:

It's funny, I like the Bellatrix model a lot but it's a book, rather than movie sculpt - which is weird as EVERYTHING else is an attempt to render the cast accurately (and generally rather well). I've left some flash on her arm as ragged cloth. So they need a bit of tidying, but they'll be done before the week is out.

What else is on the desk this week? Well, I'm in a DC place. Took a punt at the Rebirth Swamp Thing

Green ink-thinned VJ Sick green washed with green-black ink. Again, I've left some flash attached to his right hand because I like the way it could be him channelling the green. I'm very fond of this sculpt, even though I have the metal one and wouldn't normally be bothered about doubling up - however, it's smaller and leaner than the metal version, which I think works nicely to reflect his different (and current) power levels.

But mostly, I'm on an evil kick.

Daddy's grrrls. Just blocking in flesh for now. I am not a fan of Joker's Daughter as a character, even though she should on paper be very cool (she's Harvey Dent's daughter, but literally wears Joker's face - yup...) and she's pretty rubbish in game, but the model's cool. Rebirth Harley is ace, and despite myself I love the comic.

And a whole other kind of Mr J:

The Batman Who Laughs is slightly further along than the Crow Robins, who are really just blocked in for now. This is a creepy as feck sculpt, really evocative, and starting the Dark Knights has been a priority for a while. - I may even try to crank out the whole crew (Red Death, Merciless, and the Drowned) as self-contained fluffy crews are always fun.

Got a nice supply drop from Autokill!

On a separate note, your wisdom is sought. My boys are absolutely determined to have a game of 40k on Friday, as the 3 of us are off, so I've been trying to work out what's (1) easy (2) self-explanitory (3) viable. Bear in mind they've got to grips with Kill Team, so they're fairly savvy. A simple, terrain heavy battlefield for a grinding murder machine.

I'm thinking 1000 points split into 2 roughly equal detachments is easy for them to manage. We have plenty of stuff so that's not an issue. Broadly, for troops, I'm planning on giving them Intercessors and Scouts (because Raven Guard), probably 2x 5-man squads with an Aux GL and a 5-man sniper squad with camo cloaks. That leaves ~400 for a couple of captains and lieutenants. Or should I mix it up a bit? Give one of them a "different" squad each, to give them a tactical role - a fast attack (3 Aggressors) for one them, a heavy support (5 Hellblasters) for another? Or more complex HQs?

As for command points/stratagems, I was going to keep it simple for now - with the Patrol Detachments in the above arrangement, that gives them 6 CPs, which again, for now, I'll just let them use for the basic 1CP reroll.

And then I have to decide on what DG to play against them. The sheer slowness of DG means they should be able to bed in a gradually grind away at the Disgustingly Resilient blighters. I'm going to avoid PBCs etc for now, but maybe throw in a swarm of Poxwalkers to pester them. They know to stay out of melee with Flails/ axes etc, and out of range of Blight launchers, but haven't run up against a fleshy horde. I'm thinking of broadly mirroring what they have, essentially, with regular squads of DG analogous to the Primaris, and looking at 1 each of poxies and cultists as scout equivalent.

Thoughts, ideas, input gratefully received!
Graven

I think for the marines your on the right track. 2 intercessors, 2 scout squads. Captain and Lt. throw in a squad of hell blasters so they have a heavy hitter.
For the DG a lord of contagion and Chaos lord with the plaguesword and archcontaminator warlord trait. 2 squads of plague marines with blight launchers and a big squad pox walkers for troops. Elites I would take tally man and noxious blightbringer. A blight drone, maybe as they are tough to kill but can fall quickly to the hellblasters. My 2 cents.

Swampy's coming along

I know TV Swampy is very dark and grimy but often he's very bright in the comics, especially covers like Swamp Thing #40 (Season's End, good stuff), which this is loosely based on.

Season's end

Really useful feedback about the WH40k stuff, btw. Got some good thoughts from Briancj also, particularly on thinking in terms of PLs not pts. Plus we have the Objective and Open War decks, which will be good for both reference and generating a "story" to the game.

He was a lot of fun to do. Funnily enough, I used to hate painting green

So, yesterday was weird. The school had to shut because of a burst water pipe. Got a lovely day with wife and little one, plus got some more paint on some potter stuff, which I then tidied up today. I'm all about the Slytherins.

Malfoy Family: Narcissa, Lucius and Death Eater Draco

Getting some glow on. I'm a bit fed up with all the black so decided to mix it up a bit with some glowy magic.

Particularly happy with Narcissa.

Bellatrix

Much more glowy magic, but with black hair too decided it was necessary. Plus, went for lots of the same shading as cloaks, but hopefully more varied in the grey tones.

Crabbe, Goyle and Draco.

Goyle's pudgy face was a real nightmare, as were the school badges.

Fred and George (or is it Geroge and Fred?)

Which is which?
9 more done, and that's the back of the potter stuff broken, finally.

And onwards... Ron and Harry wips

Added a plague rat to Ron for Scabbers. God, what a nightmare the Harry sculpt is to paint!

Also, started some spectral bikers for Beverly, the not-Christine faction for Gaslands:

I am enjoying VJ Livery Green a bit too much, I suspect. Yellow wash and then white highlights to follow, plus maybe some GS ghost flames on the bases.

Spooooooky I've left them quite flashy also, to be drippy goop. Two more to do as well, but they need base repair/shenanigans.

Planning my first proper game of 40k with the kids tomorrow. Wish them luck!
More geeky freebies on the way, too: Blaster vs Soundwave for TFTCG, Tripods & Triplanes from Ares, Hellboy stuff from Mantic, and a mystery box from KM. Who knows what's to come?
Anon,
Graven

Funnily enough, because we've played kill team, we had the realisation that we lack enough basic loadout primaris or plague marines, just a couple short, but still. So a little bit of proxying required. For me, it was even more noticeable with a total lack of a non-terminator chaos lord still, something to do, eh? Kitbash Necrosius was a perfect stand-in however.

Following Briancj's advice (I know, dangerous, right?), sorta, we used the open war deck for random deployment zones, objectives (2 for them, 1 for me) and a twist. The Comet and... the Big Game Hunter (?) for them, burn and pillage for me (how fitting). Really forced them to think and plan. Inceptor strike in the back field led to slaughter by cc DG, whilst the snipers happily took pot shots all game.

By the end of T3 they'd taken out everything bar Tallyman, Chaos Lord and plaguecaster, plus were holding the high ground with the crashed xenos pod atop it, so I graciously admitted defeat. The wee fella had started to flag and so wanted to cut our losses - need him to stay feeling excited.

It was a great learning experience for us all, especially given that I've not played 40k in about 5 or 6 years. Printing everything in advance made things much, much easier. The kids quickly twigged about using captains and the lieutenant to optimise rerolls, using cover and going for the objectives over slaughter. They got a real fright picking a fight with the cc squad and the sheer quantity of dice they were dropping, and though they wasted a lot energy trying to snipe the Tallyman the fact that they figured out how important it was to take him out and prevent me from getting back my CPs was impressive.

Couple of other bits today. Managed to grab a couple of regular Brokkr for my Dreadball team.

They get to keep the hammers and guns to represent the Illegal advancement. These are bad Constructicons, these guys.

Also, I got a maildrop from KM

Now. This is cool. I really like Eradicator, especially in the Rebirth era. His rules are excellent, and terrifying. They also sent the repackaged LexCorp box. But here comes an entitled rant

If you are telling me you are sending me your new edition and releases to review, send me the new edition not JUST one new blister and a rerelease. At least send me the sodding RULES!
/rant

Off to Comicon today. Aiming to meet John Wagner (Dredd) amongst others, try to get a couple of good prints etc.

Yeah, very much so.

Speaking of dangerous, how about red heads?

Artemis of Bana-Mighdall. Yeah, now there's an obscure dc character. Not to be confused with Young Justice Artemis or the golden era goddess.

The Bana-Mighdall are exiled Amazons. She's THEIR wonder woman. She's part of the Dark Trinity, the anti-heroic big 3 with Red Hood and Bizarro. Scott Lobdell's run has been outstanding, I've never been a huge fan of Red Hood or Bizarro but I've loved every issue.

You were expecting a Princess? Let me show you The Goddess...

The Goddess is the axe. A bit like Thor's hammer in marvel. In the absence of a model for her made my own with spear Amazon and etched brass. Likewise brass sprue for the Lasso of Submission (formerly Superwoman's [Earth 3, evil Lois Lane wonder woman]). Stat wise I'll probably just run her as regular Diana. Now I need to convert the other Amazons...

Comiccon was ... Ok. Very cosplay, very manga, not hugely comicy. Did pick up some odds and ends, and had a long chat with John Wagner which was pretty epic.

Finished off Harry and Ron.

Don't love them, but they're ok.

6ft rule and all that.

[
Painting bad guys is much more in my comfort zone:

Adding a bit of purple makes sense to my addled brain.

Whilst I'm doing purple, I might I as well start on some serious purple...

The purple is actually highlighted with green - subtle and, I think, effective. Doing the skirt damn near killed me.

On the subject of the green:

Another redhead. Shocking...
Lots of other stuff lurking on the desk.
Till then,

Do you know how many canaries can fit under a Scotsman’s kilt?

Why would a Scotsman have little fish under his kilt? Does it lure the canaries?

The MWL and JD look super cool. Poison Ivy is growing into something lovely. Artemis turned out great, quite effective conversion. I wish the main characters from HP were more inspiring sculpts. They went all-out on Hermione and the boys just seem...meh.

Very true. And I'm not going to get all gatekeeper geek about that. But I still think it could do with more comic.

Cheers. Yeah the Hermione is odd though too: super dynamic but almost too balletic? It's a similar problem, weirdly, to Bellatrix - not movie accurate, though very cool.

I started painting a hunk o' junk

Needs dakka though. My prison crew is just about done, so I'll need to outfit it for a different crew.

And finished converting up my Antiope

I do feel a bit sorry for the Amazon I sacrificed (well, 2). Never mind eh?

Today was a bit experimental: trying model air over different primers.
Blue experiments:
Alo-Khan, MVP

Black prime, drybrysh dark grey/neutral grey, deck tan.

Not quite as far along, The Merciless:

Corpse will be in bright superman colours. Debating with to have a decapitated head in his fist.

Blue beetle and booster gold, with a layer of white highlights underneath

And asterian weapon drones over off-white primer, with initial highlights

Red experiments

Red death (left) has grey over black, Ezra flash has white after grey also.

Taking this to the next level, gives us... Deadman!

Boston Brand. He's a ghost, btw.

And then, more highlights, plus some purple,

Feel very productive.

And yes, before you say it, I am essentially using model air as contrast. What's you point caller ? fraction of the cost, already own lots. But totally inspired by Theophony and Briancj powering along. It's nice to feel positive about painting.

Speaking of which, Sept has been remarkably productive. Here's to October: may it bring me cheap tint pumpkins for Harry Potter and Scarecrow!

I thought the car was firing a mortar and was about to ask how you did the plume , then I clicked the pic and saw it was the backdrop .

Well played .

Contrast really has some nice qualities, the price is NOT one of them.

I do have a scale mortar actually, in my new stuff from Dice Mechanic Games. Hmmmm...

Gitsplitta wrote:Nice work graven! Really looking forward to your treatment of the green chicky-babe!

Well, as you're so nice, here you go then.

Just about blocked in. However, I now realise that I should have gs'd the roots to the base all work and no play...

Several other wips on the go. After the green, how about the pink?

Black Orchid, using VJ squid pink and carburg crimson. Also part of the Green (DC mystical nature force), like Swamp Thing, tied to the Parliament of Flowers though, rather than of Trees. She's one of those characters that have been around since the classic era that you've never heard of - this is like her 4th named incarnation. They've not really done much with her in the Rebirth era, and given what's going on in Justice League Dark (the Fluronic Man is now the spirit of the Green, having corrupted the Parliament of Flowers) she's a bit of a missed opportunity.

And the last of the Dark Knights, Bryce Wayne: The Drowned.

She had snapped through at the ankle, so had tried to go with a sorta swirling water effect to mask this. Damn you vile brittle restic! Needs more squid, I think. Cool character, and a hard counter in game to Aquaman (my older boy's favourite super in game and comics) and Mera. Kids are in for a shock

Ezra Miller Flash:

Most of the way there. Needs white edge highlights and mask tidied up.

The Merciless is also nearly done, not worth a pic, just got some more edge highlighting in. The base was a total disaster, however, so I've got a new plan: I've ordered some piles of skulls and a sheet of resin bones. I'm particularly excited about the latter, it's amazing what can you find on t'internet.

And some finished, or near-as finished, stuff:
Nightmare Batman

Looking at it again, could do with a tidy on the rubble, and maybe the army green.

Pleased with the trenchcoat. Much wet blending.

The Red Death, Dark Knight Flash:

Hard to photograph. Cue jokes about flash...

And the brave and the blue, the good and the gold:

Again, retro-ish characters. Neither are particular favourites, but they're stonkingly good in both BMG and DCU - they play like a proper team-up.
Blue Beetle

Even though it's a new 52 style sculpt, flipped the shades of blue on his suit to be closer to current version.

Booster Gold

Getting his super yellow right, over black primer, was a PITA. 2 layers of Averland, then wet blended into VJ Gold Yellow, layered with VJ Sun yellow, highlighted with whatever the gw edge yellow is, and a little VJ Deck Tan (new favourite paint) at the extremes. However, really pleased with the result. It's a very bright, shiny yellow, without recourse to yellow inks, which was important as I wanted a whiter gleam than I'd've got with that.

I've bitten the bullet and offloaded some more BMG stuff, Bats&Cops from DKR set. Granted, it'll get recycled into DCU stuff, but I'd rather have things for a game I actually play, y'know? It's the ciiiiiiiiiiiiircle of life... Still got all the Joker stuff and an unpainted Bane crew, anyway, and more than enough other if I choose to go back to it for 3rd edition (coming oh-so, far-too soon).

Got this through the post to review from North Star figures:

Damn, it's a nice set. £10 gets you a ton o' stuff
Spoiler:

4 machine Guns
3 Heavy machine Guns
2 Mini Guns
1 Harpoon
1 Racing vent
2 Droppers
1 Death ray
1 Tool box
2 Dozer Blades
1 motorbike
4 Wheels (double-sided alloys)
4 Sheets of armour
1 Bull Bars
1 Engine Block
1 Exhaust
1 Flamethrower
2 Drivers
1 Turret Gunner
1 Turret Ring
2 Side Exhausts
1 Rocket Launcher
1 Radar Dish
2 Rockets.

It's the fact that it's so much, and so many different things, all in one place. Absolute belter. Hot Wheels Scale bikes are particularly tricky to track down at a good price.

On we go...

Quantity over quantity, I assure you

Well, I think I am done with the freehand on Black Orchid.

Why am I doing this?

Why?! WHY?!?!?!?!

Need to rejig my lighting setup again. But I'm really happy with her, in the end.

And yet more wips. GS roots for ivy, and all now colours blocked in. Now to work on the greens.

Further work on Ezra Miller.

Am I too soon? I'm too soon! Eye and final highlights to fix.

More on The Drowned.

She's coming along nicely. Shiny because still, ironically, wet

A little bit, finally, on Hagrid.

I have cleaned this model so many times. In the end I switched to VJ Game Color as it's much higher density.

And a bit of fun. What you see here is an experiment with the rust powder that I use for Gaslands.

First, I grabbed a primaris marine one of my kids had dipped in contrast brown.

Then, thinned pva/water, a layer of iron powder, half and half vinegar for 1.5 hrs, and then rinsed and left to dry for another hour. Real rust!

Tripods and Triplanes coming today. Exciting weekend ahead!

You're most kind.

Bits and pieces. It's strange, I always expect to get more done on the weekend

Anyway. Made the base for The Merciless

Toad king skull pile and bone sheet. Some rubble will go in the gaps.

Finished the Flash

That'll do.

I also got a set of 6 lovely laser cut Dreadball goals from a mate.

And an EPIC mail drop from Ares:

These are easily the best prepaints I've ever seen. I thought the regular WoG planes were good:

We had a test game of the basic box. I made the boy read the rules and explain them to me. He, naturally, wanted to play the invaders. We played a straight-up dogfight and aimed to see what happened.

The various scatter objectives are there on the table (well, his bedroom carpet) just to add a bit of atmosphere, at least for this. The lovely Nieuport 16 in the starter comes with rockets and a new gun, which looks very jolly. He got a bit of shock with the straight line death rays

You have to shoot down the gullet as they shields on other facings.

There was some chasing, circling and smoke screens, though I managed to take the Locust to the wire.

But in the end he chased me down, the on-the-spot turning of the Locust did for me:

Planes need to be flown really well to compete with the tripods. It makes for a very good game as a parent vs child though and tactically, if you're experienced players it becomes a proper challenge. It could, possibly, be a frustrating experience for 2 relative novice players but once you've got the hang of the Nieuport's manoeuvers you'll be laughing.

Caved to the KM tenth anniversary sale, picked up Cyborg Superman, Mongol, Zod and the Sword of Rao, and PromoMomoaman. Traded my Zurr-en'Arrh promo for a Riddler and Starfire to one of the other DC admins, just to round out things I'm missing.

So a good weekend was had all in all.
How bout y'all?

Thanks buddy. That was the plan so glad it's apparent!

I've realised that's 240 minis this year. Whilst it's nowhere near last year, I'm ahead of 2017's 180 by some way, and looking back the quality is definitely better. Whilst 2019 has had some highs, 2018 probably had a better standard overall. Nevertheless, not shabby.

The fact that you get that they're supposed to be tights/pantyhose makes me really delighted, wasn't at all sure if it would be obvious.

I'm really pleased with how Antiope is coming along. I kinda wish I'd picked up another set of Amazons during the KM sale, as my bow one was gubbed (hence why I didn't care about cutting her up) and my spear one is now Artemis. As a result I don't have a counts-as Menalippe (spear amazon from the movie). They don't have the Horde rule (essentially = non-unique) but still. For now Antiope can do double duty as "bow" amazon and "sword" amazon.

Got a big box of goodies from KM today, hurrah: Chamber of Secrets and the DCU rulebook, along with promo Black Suit Superman and another copy of the Potter core box to giveaway. Not shabby. Still want a Big Barda though

Lol many thanks. Some of these are pretty obscure though.

Anyway, pottering:

Boards

Component pics:

I really like that you get the various other characters as tokens. If you have the models, great, but if not, no problem. Makes for a much more self contained product.

Crappy pic but shows you how much stuff you get.
That's a LOT of spiders.

Meanwhile,Green Arrow (TV) is underway, as is Hippolyta (despite her missing crotch guard).

And a troll

Plus Harley and her boys

Pretty happy.

Damn hyena spots.

Which leaves almost no DCU unpainted. Built but unprimed is 80th anniversary Batman. Unbuilt there's a bit more: black suit supes, Eradicator, metallo, Scarecrow and Solomon Grundy. Still, considerable progress.

I get a wee pang when I look at the pile of Gaslands stuff - particularly as I have bits to review - but I'm really happy with how things are going just now with all the other stuff.

October holiday week. Few days away at my folks', hopefully be chill. No painting but hopefully games with the kids.

Good stuff, Harley looks top notch, the Amazon as well. Time for a DCU group shot once these last few bits are done?

Have you had a chance to use Metallo in game yet? Got my eye on the Lexcorp set down the line, but would like to know what sort of role/power level he sits in so I can engage in some speculative list-building (or in DCU terms, justifying teamups! )

Lol maybe. Pretty close to being done.

DCU / Metallo thoughts (spoilered for the uninterested)
Spoiler:

Metallo is very very situational. He's really good anti Kryptonian (Potent for 15) and obviously there's now more of the K, but for that price I would take Black Adam hands down (16), if only for magic.
The thing with LexCorp is it's VERY difficult to run, highly synergistic. Certainly good, but still. Lex is pretty overcosted, even for 11. Power Ring is only 10. If you're looking for a set the Crime Syndicate are great. If you want classic characters there's the Legion of Doom. Sinestro is an absolute beast and Yellow lanterns are getting teased as the next sub faction.

Slinky wrote:Hey - Nice troll you got there!

I see what you did there

I don't think it will take that long, genuinely. I know that I need to get stuff built, but a lot of the stuff is mono cast so that's not a biggy, just prep, trim, base.

So fuelled by beer and grilled cheese last night, did a bunch of stuff.

Finished Green Arrow.

This is the later TV version. Given the crappy casting/breaking of the bow, I think the folded bow has worked well.

Bit more work my crotchless Hippolyta...

Finished the Troll.

Very happy with this. Skin tone has worked a treat.

Playing with colours, started some stuff.

McGonagall - love the green - and Lockhart. I shaded some of the pink with blue also.

This got me thinking...

Dreadball trophy. For SUDS (Summer Ultimate Dreadball Season), our family league. Might need to make a Most Violent award too. Only way I'll get a trophy lol.

For our holidays we've decided we going to take Tripods for a serious, full on invasion: kids versus dads (well, dad - me - and Grandad). Should be fun
Onwards!

Alright gang?

A weekend of Potter, it turns out.

And a very shiny Lockhart

And here's my thoughts on the Chamber of Secrets miniatures.

The Basilisk is a huge, beautiful beast, and Tom Riddell is spot on. I would never normally risk not pinning a lump of resin like the Basilisk so was really impressed that it holds together so well, and with minimal gapping. Big plus for casual players.

If you're lucky enough to get a pre-order copy, you'll find the Aragog token upgraded to a physical model, but irrespective there's enough spiders here to give the hardiest arachnophile the creeps.

I didn't expect these to be fully playable in game, but as well as great models that are very easily assembled they are more than just objectives - they're playable beyond the scope of the campaign. Hoping to have Moaning Myrtle up to her tricks for Goblet of Fire...

As well as Colin Crevey, we now have retail versions of fan-favourites Dobby and the Sorting Hat - oh, and Filch. I'm quite impressed, all in all. It's very expensive but it's a great expansion.

Started thumbing through the new DC rulebook.

The game system itself is largely the same, just with a much cleaner, clearer rulebook (or indeed, A rulebook). It's a lovely thing, very high spec with lots of classic art and new pics, with fully half given over to a decent run down of the DCU.

My eldest loved this about it, as it's a good potted history of where things are with most of the major characters. That's not to say it's lacking in game content, far from it: fully 17 scenarios, a mix of a classic and new, with several designed for specific key events (Death of Superman, for instance). There's a great hero Vs hero training day scenario, also, but chasing boom tubes and motherboxes, artefacts and ne'er-do-wells are all there too.

Off for our hols to my folks, and more tripod action.

Do so. It isn't cheap. But it's a great product all round. It carries the Potter premium. Potter heads will snap it up.

Aw, you guys feeling the love for the big fella.
Slinky wrote:How does the Chamber work as a game? Is it a wargame, or a dungeon crawler type affair, or scenario based?

Scenarios. You earn scenario points depending on how well you do. You can spend scenario points to make a scenario easier but you need to finish a scenario with enough left to unlock the next one. It's a neat, logical mechanic. There are separate scenarios also at the end that you can play as standalone games or indeed competitively. It is what the base set should've been.

CommissarKhaine wrote:Some lovely models in here, Graven, you had my wife actually coming over at the pc to look at them - quite the achievement!

Well, that's high praise indeed.

Gitsplitta wrote:Very nice blending on the buttocks. Is that supposed to be Hermione post-graduation?

presuming you're referring to Harley? Many thanks.

Although I'm away on my hols (translation: eating and drinking too much with my parents at their house), I finished up a couple of things beforehand.

Dreadball trophy

And a new Sponsor to be the "Most Violent" award.

She's the Xtreme Promo, so fits the bill.

Kingsley Shacklebolt, of the Order of the Phoenix:

And a using real iron powder, a proper rust marine for Papa.

Fun times

Got a proper, full game of Tripods, playing the Invasion scenario from the main box (as opposed to the Invasion expansion, which is free to download). Despite Ares sending me one of each Invader, the core box scenarios mostly want you to have 2 of the basic "Locust" Tripod. Never mind. The scenario suggests 2 Entente or Central Powers planes, or a mix - that we can do in spades, so my son took a Spad. XIII and Sopwith Camel against my Locust Tripod.

The aim is for the Invader to crush the French town.

The brat got a lucky shot off first time and injured my pilot, meaning I couldn't shoot him, only crush the town. Made for an interesting game.

Although I managed to crush all the objectives, eventually the boy managed to take down the alien menace just before I left the board to win the scenario.

Fancy fly boy.
Been a good couple of days generally. Got some Carcassonne in, Lego, usual nonsense.

Scale Model show this weekend. Hopefully get some good gubbins.

Yeah, hobby ADHD is great

Tripods are excellent, suspect we need another locust though. Need to read the full Invasion supplement rules first, however.

Today has been a very diverse day, as ever. Went to the hobby show and was... Underwhelmed. It was predominantly military models, and kits/sellers geared towards that. There was some good stuff on display, couple of good dioramas but folk very antsy even about pictures being taken. Pretty unimpressed. It's exactly what gives the hobby a bad name, and that's before I even get onto the standards of bodily hygiene in middle aged men. It actually put me off spending any real time looking at weathering materials, and there was a lot of that on display.
Did however pick myself up a wet palette. Yes, I know I could have made one, but there we go. It's decent, I'm impressed thus far, pottering around whilst painting intermittently. Got a few decent triangle handled sables. I can't use round barreled any more with my hand and, whilst I may not be painting as well as I used to, I decided to treat myself regardless.

So, indeed, what did I get up to?

Ruh-Roh...

Jinkies! Are we chasing them or are they chasing us? First 2 ghost riders for Beverley, the spectral sponsor. Mystery Machine as the non-ghost/ Christine car.

And another Gaslands vehicle, Stinger, the first car for my Idris Avispas:

More Amazons. First up, Hippolyta.

Way more stressful than she should've been. Now onto Kitbash archer, and then to find suitable bits to Kitbash Menalippe.

This is my broken archer with replacement bow arm, new right arm from spear gal, and alternate head. And I need to make her a new foot. Leftover I have a left spear hand, left sword hand and a suitable head. It's a start lol.

As you can see, this means i got replacement parts from km. Unfortunately they STILL sent me the wrong axe wielding thug for Bane. But hey, now I have two spare mercenary bodies to convert. I've also been working on the Tumbler. God, what a mess of a lump of resin that is

Plenty of other stuff priming before the weather turns: Dobbie and other chamber stuff, some Dreadball, etc. Need to grab some black to do all the bloody spiders mind you.

Hey ho

Not done much. But started some more Dreadball, another giant (Deadzone Night Terror) and promo coach Orcy.

And post-apoc'd my Mystery Machine

I've heavily masked the logo. I'm not as fussed about the rest I think, but I don't know if that section looks a little bare?

I'm also unsure what to do with the rear doors, is anything.

Other than that, not much happening. Work is pretty horrid, but equally has truly great moments. Teaching is a job of strange extremes.

Thanks! That's the base for the crusty yellow that I use as their scheme.

Meanwhile, thanks to the mighty insaniak, I got a couple of MEdge sprues to review (and a couple to give away).

Hot DAMN these are useful... I mean I've seen what insaniak churns out but I'd not really appreciated just how much stuff there is here.

And I've built the last of my DC stuff:

Decided to go with a ruined urban style for the death of superman character bases.

And decided I wanted Metallo to be doing his technopathic shenanigans.

The new resin is noticeably stronger - I dropped Metallo on his head, with no damage.

On a separate note, if you fancy heading over to bigcomicpage.com, I'm in geeky gifting mode, and there's a whole lot of stuff in the giveaway, including DC rules, Transformers tcg, Harry Potter core set and of course MEdge sprues.

Well, here she is:

Now the really impressive thing is that the white used to finish her off was sitting in the new wet palette for over a week.

So a busy weekend chasing children, various decorating, making Hallowe'en costumes (Mickey mouse, skullduggery pleasant) etc. Primed up white Colin Creavy, Filch (need to find a good moggy for Mrs Norris, rather than the token), Tom Riddle, Eradicator and a couple of Bane's Mercs, because I'm pretending I still play BMG (I really don't, but 3rd is coming). Also done all the black priming - anniversary Batman, Superman Returns, potter bases and alllllll the spiders. I might do Cyborg Superman and Mongul black prime, when they turn up; definitely doing Zod and co off black, and might be lazy and do them helms on. Other than that waiting on PromoMomoaman and promo Dobby & Kreacher, need to figure out the Basilisk's base and, for Hallowe'en, aiming to build Grundy, Man-Bat and (of course) Scarecrow. Getting there Also have Voldemort, more death eaters, aurors and the Weasley Parents to build. Sighhhhhh...

However, I did start on a many layered thing:

So many layers of grey.

I have a friend who's a pro painter, and is also obsessed with unicorns, so she gave me some good advice with this. Still a nightmare (ha) though, lumpy sculpt with a lot of filing required.

So this is the hell month. November is the busiest month in the teaching calendar.

On we go,
Graven

Spider.

Lots of spider.

Lots and lots and lots of SPIDERS.

But let's not forget, the DC goodness:

Man, working with metallics and black is not fun. Still a WIP.

But you got to have a bad guy on Hallowe'en, right?

Great model.

So Metallo's done. That's another 19 for October!
Not shabby
Bring on the hell month!

"Spiders! Why did it have to be spiders? Why couldn't it have been 'follow the butterflies'?" Creepy and uncannily realistic to the point where I'd probably have a small heart attack if I saw one left lying around!

Metallo looks superb, and SuperMullet is coming along nicely.

That's a lot of arachnid-ing going on there. Metallo looks REALLY good. Love that green. Also a fan of how He-Is-Risen Supes is turning out. I have always liked his brief Punisher look.

Thanks man. I quite like spiders. We had a wasp's nest once in the attic, they encased it in silk and turned it into a larder. Things I think help with the spiders was repositioning Aragog's legs and, funnily enough, that one of the big Acromantula's came with two sets of the right legs, so I just flipped them 180: adds movement. That and, of course, my new favourite paint, Vallejo Deck Tan.

Cheers. Vallejo greens are just amazing (Heavy Green > Sick Green > Livery Green) - it's their orc and goblin skin selection. I'm not a huge fan of the black suit but I really enjoyed Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Death of Superman (came out yesterday): Lois as Eradicator is ace, and it reminded me I needed to get on with the dude himself.

Aw shucks thanks. Did you manage to get yourself a Black Suit-erman?

I need to reorganize my DC collection, as my DCU stuff is now more substantial than my BMG. In starting to do so, however, I found my Gorilla Grodd crew, so very happy.

Yeah, good video, and useful to see what's changed between versions. Not a bad thing to watch whilst coughing up Nurgle's bounty. Honestly, it's nasty.

So what have I been up to? Really not much. Finished my wasp themed Idris for Gaslands today, that's about it:

Don't know whether they're a bit too clean.

The whole gang

I always think, hey, I'm off sick, I'll get loads done... maybe it's all a sign from Papa that I should paint more Nurgle to ward off his blessings. It's been a long time since I did anything putrelicious. So started Lord Felthious and co. Maybe that will appease the plaguefather.

I did, however, get my review of DUNE done.
Spoiler:

Today we're looking at the re-release of DUNE, the 1979 Avalon Hill classic, one of the "holy-grail" boardgames for collectors and fans alike. With Gale Force 9 (Firefly, Star Trek Ascendancy) now holding the license, you can be pretty confident it's good hands.

It's had some minor tweaks (the gf9 team reckon between 3-5% of the rules) such as it's now ten turns, not 15, with cleaner, clearer rules and more cards to track things (e.g. Bene Gessirit Predictions) and can be played with 2-6 players, though is optimal at 4+ (3 can quickly lead to a 2 vs 1 situation). The art is mostly that of the 1979 version (no dodgy 1984 Sting box art here) with a few extras in the same style.

Now there are, as is often the way these days, playthru videos on YouTube, and I strongly recommend you watch these. Also, the game comes with a quick setup guide, which is very good indeed (available for download here also https://www.gf9games.com/dune/wp-content/uploads/DUNE-Quick-start-Guide.pdf)

Regardless, here's a brief overview. For a game that is entirely about scheming, faction screens are a given. The fact that they contain detailed strategy guides is brilliant and complemented by the accompanying faction cheat sheets.

It can seem a bit overwhelming but, fortunately, the quick reference cards are very well organised. Although some things seem a little cumbersome - the battle wheels speak of a time when 20-sided dice were not freely available - and the terminology is so deep in the Dune mythos that it can seem inaccessible to newcomers, it's actually more straightforward than it initially seems, with each faction feeling entirely unique and true to Herbert's universe.
For example, the CHOAM phase is the Charity phase - free Spice! - which is an excellent mechanic as it ensures no-one is ever unable to buy their way back into the game. On the other hand, the distinction of between Treachery cards and Traitor cards threw me initially, especially given that when you use a Traitor you declare "Treachery!" which makes no sense to me.

One thing that can't be understated is the sheer quality of the product. Tokens are sturdy and plentiful (without being excessive), the cards and stock feel high quality (very reminiscent of the Firefly decks) and board itself is a thing of utter beauty.

Gameplay itself is designed to emphasise ongoing negotiation and discussion. The fact that it's geared towards cooperation (well, before you stab them in the back) means that for inexperienced players an alliance can help your understanding as much as your chances of victory. You win the game by holding 3 strongholds (or 4 if in an alliance). The game is essentially a reskin of Cosmic Encounter, but with only 6 factions each one is much in-depth and flavourful. I've listed them below, broadly, by complexity.

HARKONNEN
In many ways the most straightforward, very power in the early game, Harkonnen start with 4 traitor cards and double the number of Treachery (battle? cards. Great for new players to learn with.

ATREIDES
Also relatively straightforward, their Limited Precognition allows them to peak at unrevealed Treachery cards, meaning you're less at risk of wasting precious Spice.

EMPEROR
What the Emperor has is money. When you buy cards, if there's an Emperor player, they get the Spice you pay. It's fair to say they're never short of a bob. As a result they're relatively easy for the novice, and always a good partner to ally with.

GUILD
The Guild have a similar mechanic to the Emperor, but instead it's whenever a player transfers Reserve forces to the planet's surface (which they do a lot, as this is a brutal game) that they gain the Spice spent. Guild also have an interesting variant Victory condition which is that, if no-one wins by the end of the game, THEY automatically win as it's in the guild's interest for no one faction to have control of the planet.

FREMEN
Unsurprisingly, the Fremen don't play like the other factions. They never have to pay to transfer troops from offworld, can travel twice as far, and if they reveal a Sandworm they can ride it to any other territory on the board (rather than being eaten). They also have a variant victory condition that allows them to win at the end if they control the Sietches. Personally, I love that they feel very different yet still fit the gameplay.

BENE GESSIRIT
By far the most complex are the Sisterhood. Their ability, the Voice, allows you to compel people to play specific card types in battle, which requires a lot of educated deduction. Their variant victory condition is to predict which player will win the game, and on which turn - and if you're right, all other players lose, and you alone are victorious (even if in an alliance). Hard to pull off, and can make other players wary of allying with you at all.

DUNE really is a stunningly good game, a fitting tribute to both Herbert and the Avalon Hill original. This is a boardgame gamer's game, through and through, though will undoubtedly appeal to fans of the universe primarily. I would stress not to be put off if you're not familiar with the setting, however, as you'd be missing out on an absolute treat. After all, the spice must flow...

Still, back to normality tomorrow. May even return to some sort of p&m pace

Talking of things that go fast, decided to repaint a dragster bright pink at the daughter's request

I think I'll call it the Yass Queen

Fun with chroming effects on the engine.

Didn't do much anything else p&m wise, but I acquired Devil's Run: hell's highway for more vehicles (and crucially, ones that don't require power tools to chop up) and reorganised the BMG and DCU boxes around so the DCU is now the bigger of the two. Oddly momentous. Even with BMG 3 around the corner, DCU is still my jam. I know there's some BMG stuff getting moved to DCU that's not been announced yet officially, so they've been bumped also. Be prepared

Because I am a nerd-whore.

What's next? Well in attempt to get ahead, I decided to tackle a very boring task all at once and start painting all the bases and base inserts on minis primed white to black. 30 figs done in a very productive, if dull, hour. This means that I can pretty much get on with anything and everything now as I see fit. The problem, incidentally, is that because KM resin is so brittle you really have to leave it on the base tab or risk severed ankles. It's an annoying trade-off.

Still, a big box came today. A big box... Of Evil!

Also The Wild Hunt. So a good day of nerd loot.

The Wild Hunt is interesting as it's the first non-KS expansion. I was initially a little wary as I like choice, and this set comes with only 2 new agents, Hellboy with mahoosive sword and a new back-up agent, Alice Monaghan. However, I'm also acutely aware of the paralysis of choice that can plague games - it's one of my niggles with The Walking Dead, in fact, as there's now almost too many characters to pick from. What The Wild Hunt adds is playability and longevity in spades, with a raft of new monsters and, more importantly, 3 brand-new Case Files (scenarios).

Eligos is the new boss, and there's a dozen new minions (5 different types) for him to bother agents with - I especially like the giants.

The Box full of evil is well... Full!

That's vampires, giant bats, undead mounted Knights and a friendly wolf.

And that's Luchador Hellboy and the gang from Hellboy in Mexico, Oni, floating heads, loads of undead Knights and conquistadors, and 3 more bosses, from Darkness Calls.

Very impressed with the cast. Hard plastic, but almost no flash/mould lines. Great sculpts, really high production values.

Bit of a mad weekend. Boys are performing all weekend (gang show, it's a Scouts thing) so my life is just shuttling kids even more than usual. Ah well. Doubt I'll get some painting done in between but will try. Still, managed to open our box of wave 4 transformers, pulled a Super rare Megatron (very exciting, I mostly play cons), and only missing 3 rares - a very good box indeed.

Till then
Graven.

Boring busy work continues: the bases all got another couple of layers of tan and grey. It's *very* tedious but worth it in the long term. Also, I'm not in a focused painting mood anyway atm because RL is distracting.

Did do a bit more Pottering...
Moaning Myrtle:

I know that green is not necessarily canon for potter ghosts, but screw it, I like it. I've tried to make the sink full of water (pva) and look like it has splashed over, discolouring the stone.

Not sure if it's worked but still.

And finished off Werewolf Lupin.

And The Grim too.

Dodgy pics, my Ott Light has packed in

And the Sorting Hat

On the subject of green, started Batman's greatest foe:

?‽¿You were expecting someone else?¿‽

Better view of the cloth.

And a bit more on Felthius:

He and his crew need green on their pauldrons etc, bronze edging and then orange wash in all the recesses. Steady progress.

Had a mahogany spillage, disaster. Managed to rescue all of it on to the wet palette - guess that's one way of experimenting!

Hey ho

Looks like the sorting hat has sorted out all the green paints for you to use . Moaning Mertle looks good in green as well.

Riddler better watch out for Ivyif he starts claiming the greenest title .

That's the thing. Km sculpts are quite astonishing in that regard.
Tonight has been a night of blocking in.

Lots and lots of blocking in. That's Lupin, Sirius Black, Filch, Colin Creavy, Tonks, Peter Pettigrew, Mad-Eye Moody and Dobby all fully blocked in, plus further work on Riddler, Tom Riddle (hey!), Starfire, Cho Chang and lots of bits of cloth on Bane's Mercs.

Woo! Maildrop!

Now the real question is, which heads to use on Zod and Feora? Helmets or no?
Really looking forward to Cyborg Superman; going to do him in yellow lantern scheme (black/red/silver). Not a huge fan of the character, but I like that storyline and LOVE that he gets to be a member of the Lantern Corps in game.

Nice supply drop! I vote helmets on the Kryptonians, gives them more of an identity on the tabletop and they look like really solid likenesses.

Be careful with Aquaman's trident, the most ludicrously spindly piece of resin I've ever set eyes on!

I like the helmets too, but you can always paint their faces all bruised and beaten and put the helmets on the base as damaged bits.

I like the helmets, but I wonder whether I need the bare heads to make it obvious who they are.
Paradigm wrote:Ah, sorry, meant no helmets! Had a migraine all day, brain still a bit fried!

That makes more sense lol
youwashock wrote:That's a lot of Potter...

Indeed, and noted!

Busy night. More blocking in done on Tom Riddle, Cho, some of Bane's Mercs (bit gutted promo Bane didn't come today, but he's en route), Colin Creavy and a bit on Hermione, Ginny and Luna. The approach, whilst dull, does mean that the pace picks up: 8 models finished -
Remus Lupin

Painted with English WW1 uniform and Luftwaffe Green. Surely an illegal combination?

Sirius Black

I reckon he only has really dated, 70s crushed velvet trousers.

Filch

Still struggling to find a good mini for Mrs Norris.

Tonks

Really pleased with her stonewashed grey jeans

Peter Pettigrew

I lost his hand, so I improvised

Mad-Eye Moody

Love the sculpt.

And Dobby

Although his vest is less yellow.

Plus The Riddler.

So chuffed with this guy - now I just need his DCU card.

Felthius and co got some more orange and more white

Next, green!

And remember, vote early, vote often... Or something

Ah velour, a manly fabric. As for cards, we're going to collate all the DCU cards over on the FB group, just haven't got round to it yet.

Yorkright wrote: They all look great, my favs of the Potters are Moody and Tonks. Riddler looks like he just stepped off the comic book page. Of course more playthings for Papa Nurgle always makes me happy.

Huzzah for Papa! Thanks, I wanted to go really bright and brash for Riddler: very much my DCU look.

youwashock wrote:Which house was Riddler in, again? Sirius, Moody, and Tonks are my faves of this bunch. You are right about Moody. Fantastic sculpt.

Well Ravenclaw's motto is Wit beyond Measure, isn't it? However, Slytherin is green - and Slytherin love the rules, in a Lawful Evil kind of way, which is so very Riddler. Moody is possibly my favourite HP sculpt.

I'm not going to get anything geeky done this weekend. I have my brother in law's stag today (Curry, VR super car racing, brewery tour, dinner in said brewery, more beer), and baking the wedding cake with the wife Sunday, definitely not with a hangover.

In the meantime, though, I started my Brokkr with the Illegal trait:

Deadzone Brokkr with GS pads. "Illegal" is an experience upgrade in Dreadball league play where you sneak weapons on to the pitch. Subtle, huh?

And started Eko'o, an MVP who is in no way a test for Man-Bat

Not sure what colour to go for his armour. Maybe dark purply blue, with some orange accents?

Slow and steady wins the race. Or at least obliterates the opposition

And, the other matter. 10 years a dakkanaut. Blimey.
Thanks to this amazing, supportive community, I'm a better builder and a less mediocre painter
So I thought I'd share a few of my favourite models from over the years tomorrow?

Till then,
Graven

Thanks mate. Yeah, it was good. Not too inebriated. Great food, good beer, tolerable company

Gitsplitta wrote:You are crazy prolific graven... wow. Makes my fingers hurt just looking at all your output.

Crazy, certainly a quantity over quality.

So 10th Bloggiversary!
Well now.
My return to gaming proper all started with erithromycin suggesting I build a tank. I'd been faffing about with papercraft buildings with him and metropolis for Heroclix and Urban War but mostly, we rpg'd together.
So one thing led to another, and a lot of foamcore later...

Which became the centrepiece of a semi-successful Imperial Guard project.
I started by getting back into GW, as so many of us do. Don't worry, I'm not going to revisit everything but along the way a lot of fun was had. Mentor Legion, Sisters, Grey Knights, the usual hobby ADHD. Here's some personal favourites, in no real order:

I do like tanks

I went through a phase of hating gw flying bases.

But it wasn't all gw.

X-Wing was a saviour at a very difficult time: having got back into gaming, and painting, I ended up with crippling cramps and spasms in my right hand.

Repainting X-Wing, gradually, helped me get back. I've never quite recovered the level of control I was at, but good enough. It's slightly depressing to know that, at some point, the muscles will likely reach the point where they'll simply detach from my hand and render it useless (nasty, nasty condition) but that's a long way off. For now, pain and painting are manageable - Papa bless triangular barrelled brushes.

What would dakka be without its amazing community contests? The League of Extraordinary Riveters in particular have always pushed, challenged and excited.

Pringles tube and Giant lollipop

Ice cream tub and printer cartridges

And a blank cd box

Probably still one of the things I'm most proud of.

I do really enjoy working on scenery. I go through phases with it but there's been some fun projects over time.

I'd forgotten about this, experiment with paper and pva for peeling paint and rust. I'll be using that again for !

There's a theme...

I'm known round here for being a DC addict. Shamelessly so, in fact.

There came a point where hobby grew into something more, as I started blogging about being a geek dad over at bigcomicpage.com . This also acted as a legitimate funding stream to pay for my hobby. a big part of that was still DC, but other games have crept in over time.

Not pulled anything from the last month or so, that seems excessive

Although it's not just DC. I like supers.

Mantic Games have always been really supportive of my blogging efforts. This is still one of my favourites of their walking dead sculpts

More recently, Dreadball, their sci-fi murder sport, has really become my game of choice. It's perfect with the kids who, as they've got older, are keen to play (my work here is complete!)

I've also been enjoying the sheer madness of modifying tiny toy cars.

And now, the circle is complete. Well, sort of, as just over a year ago all my geek friends got together for my 40th to bring me back to my true love

So there you go, a whistle stop tour of the decade chez Graven.
Hope you've enjoyed this, I have to say it was fun to go back through the old galleries and pick out stuff.
As I say perhaps too often - onwards!

Graven

What a truly epic retrospective, quite the hobby journey you've been on. Inspiring enthusiasm and boundless creativity all across that collection, and I still reckon your urban terrain is some of the most atmospheric, varied and evocative out there. I do enjoy making stuff from random rubbish. The baneblade wheels are smoothie lids. I have some of the excellent MEdge sprues, I need to modify some cardboard soon.

Thanks! Magnetron? Sure:

I love the fig. Weirdly not fond of his hero twin, just a dull pose.

And with Punchline as they plan to take down Blue Scarab (who also doubles up as Black Canary for me). I've got a full Hero and the rest of a Villain team coming from the Supers Unlimited KS so expect more in the new year.

Yorkright wrote: I have only been around a few years on Dakka, too see such a great collection of work is inspiring Graven. Happy Anniversary looking forward to see what you do in the coming years or decades.

That's most kind of you chum!

Well, off we go again. Bit of Dreadball, working through MVPs

Thunder Chris. Quick job.

And Eko'o

Inexplicably a Guard. I suspect there is an FAQ required.

Look! A Dreadball glove! Clearly not a Guard. Tsk. That base is going to need a repaint

And The Veteran, a repeatedly rebuilt man

Grizzled and scuffed.
Model #300 this year. Not shabby.

Started a couple of other MVPs, captains etc, nothing to show yet though.

I have also painted a LOT of other grey. Working on the school uniform for the Hogwarts brigade: Hermione, Cho, Ginny, Luna, Tom Riddle, Colin Creavy, all got grey followed by nuln wash. Mind numbing but necessary. I was on a conference call at the time so at least the time was well spent they're actually getting close to done so expect them later this week, all things being equal.

Dc wise, I've decided I hate the 70s Starfire pornstar costume so will, despite having started the painting, be green stuffing her a new outfit. Bah. Serves me right for selling the last one I did. I've also started painting Eradicator in his rebirth look, which will be a challenge, as you'll see.

Thanks again for the support and kind words

Thanks! Long time since I've tackled that style of geedub to be fair. JPV is a great fig. Here's hoping for a new version in game.

Got on with Eradicator. I made a rod for my own back by going with this colour scheme

I don't know if I got the crackling energy fists right. It's comic accurate but I wonder if I'd've been better going with them black with yellow lighting on top.

I like the Cape though.

VJ royal purple wet blended up to crimson.

Hank Henshaw's (Cyborg Superman) will be done similarly, though over a black primer. Also, resculpting his chest to be a Yellow Lantern logo will be a beeatch. I may just fill it with GS and then paint on the new insignia.

Nice to get another one done. I mean I could've finished half a dozen Hogwarts pupils in the same time but still

Looking good! I think the energy hands work, they definitely look like an energy effect rather than just being yellow gloves thanks to fade, and matching the shade to the visor sells the effect.

Have you painted your Sinestro? If not, could you perhaps press-mould the corps insignia from him for Henshaw? Possibly far too involved, but I'd not wanting to sculpt it from scratch!

Cool, cheers. I have painted mine, I asked Compel as I know he had an unpainted one but he reckons it's too tiny. I might simply draw the logo with a micron pen. Or I could just risk vaseline over my painted one and give it a go, I guess.

Many thanks. I much prefer this new model to the previous comic and Arkham versions. And thanks, that was the aim

Yorkright wrote: Glowy hands and eyes Good! I like that cloak, may have to try that effect of starting out deep purple and work it up to red.

It's actually pretty easy. Give it a shot and show us how it goes!

It's cake time again, wedding cake no less. Oh, the unimaginable hell. Who knew I'd be looking forward to Xmas as being LESS stressful?!

Anyway, have a pair of Ravenclaws:

Luna and Cho. The blue should possibly be darker, may hit it with some nightshade. Tom Riddle and Colin Creavy are nearly there too. I'm not sure I care if these are perfect - I just want them done.

I was looking back over my 2017 retrospective, where I did 180 models. I'd aimed in 2018 to double that, and hit over 400. I don't think I'll hit those heights, but having topped 300 now this year, the idea of averaging a model a day certainly has appeal. I'm not going to be bound to it - that's 62 models in the next month - but I'll have a stab.

New edition of BMG is coming out - Back to Gotham.

£130/$170
A lot of the money - but a lot of money. This may be the end of BMG for me. Depends if the game is actually fast enough to play now.
Ah well, there's always DCU,

Third edition so quick after second (at least that’s how it feels), the larger bases and not being able to substitute models (that’s the wrong Batman for those rules ) really hurts the game for new players.

Really like the latest work. Commenting more on Facebook now than here......there are people to blame ....none of them here .
