A friend of mine just showed me a set of loaded dice that is identical to normal dices.... Which bothered me a great deal....
Is there any way we can identify loaded dice easily without any fancy gadgets?

A tall glass of water will do nicely.

Drop it in 6-up, then 5-up, 4-up, and so on.

See how quickly it falls.

Now drop an ordinary die in. If it doesn't float, it tumbles as it falls slowly.

BTW, note that the loaded die is opaque, while casino dice are clear...

It hardly seems reasonable to test every die people use in 40k. Especial as the canny cheater would not use all loaded dice, but mix them into are larger amount of similar looking dice. Say, 25:75. This way he skews his dice notably, without actually being notable.

I don't think theres anyway to catch these guys. My policy though is if they want to win that bad, let em. No one actually respects someone who wins through luck. Similarly, there's little loss of status when you lose to luck.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism." -Hermann Goering (high ranking Nazi)

The only loosers are the cheaters. Their game experience will not be as good and the other player will usually be motivated to improve their army/tactics anyway when they lose, whether they knew they were cheated against or not. In the short term they may enjoy cheating but long term they'll lose interest and leave the hobby anyway. Only effective if money or something was involved but if that's the case games tend to be watched more closely anyway. If they were cxheating at a tourny most others will be experienced and will usually clock onto unusually high proportions of rolls coming up continuously. I know I spot a good(or bad) roll from the one throw, never mind EVERY TIME. You know a 3+ means an average of 2/3rds, If somones getting 25% higher everytime they'll be picked up. Good rolls in a normal game tend to usually balance with poor rolls. How many times have you hit unusually high only to have lots of 1's when rolling to wound......

Most people who play 40K are easily winded. I suggest a mob armed with the red bendy sticks and flamer templates would be sufficient to catch and chastise them.

Oh you meant how to determine...never mind

Use casino dice. They roll more 6s than ordinary dice. This will compensate for your opponent's loaded ordinary dice.

Well, Casino dice roll the proper amount of each number, as opposed to Chessex dice which apparently roll more 1's. Salty though.
I have been thinking of getting a small set for use with my Callidus though. She has been consistently rolling 1's for melee wounds the past 3 games. Litterally, she has rolled a 1 for every wound for 3 games. Granted, it was only about 6-10 hits total since she gets squished soon after leaving her kill zone untouched, but still.

actually using their dice is something that I do without realising this benefit. We make a note of who had how many and just make the one big pile, as neither me or the guys I used to play alot had enough dice to cover the silly amount we needed for close combats.

Yes, that what I meant. Ordinary dice (Chessex) are biased towards 1. Casino dice are not detectably biased, so they throw fewer 1s than Chessex = more 6s.

Don't give up on your Callidus dice yet. Slowly but surely they are getting charged up with better probabilities.

arrr, but not all diseases are bad.... that's why as a race we're getting iller...think about the cave men eating raw meat etc. They survived but when we started cooking/cleaning our bodie became lazy as they didn't have to fight off as many infectios things. Those clever marketing bend it to thier advantage with their anti bacterial sprays...kills 99% of all known bacteria, and then you get adverts saying by this good bacteria drink. Bet these companies are all linked at some point, they kill off the good bacteria so they can sell it back to us. Remind you of any other compaies tkaing their customers for a ride....anyone at GW listening?......WE DON'T WANT BAD BACTERIA KILLED, THEY'RE OUR FRIENDS!!!!!!

So where might one devious person buy these loaded dice? I ask not for me but for a friend... no, I mean a cousin... yeah, right, a cousin who is dying and whose last request is to win a game of 40k... yeah that's the ticket... I mean... yeah its tragic....

So... about those dice?

Here's the link to the article posted here by the gentleman who conducted the study of a variety of different styles of dice and how they roll. He spells out the experimental situation quite clearly, in case you ever wanted to replicate the experiment yourself.

I saw some in a tourist shop in Florida while on vacation last summer.

Where do you get reasonably priced Vegas style dice? I did a search yesterday and the cheapest I could find was $1 apiece. Don't wanna spend $50 on dice just to make a few more saves.

I think you're thinking of the theory some people have that if you put a die 6-up in the microwave for a couple of seconds then the die will melt ever so slightly and weight it.

Dunno if it works
