here's the first paintjob for my upcoming Guard army:



And my first "Chimera", made from a Trukk, ordinary cardboard and random bits:




I plan on making 2 more of these. I also still want to add studs...but I just don't know how

edit: The right leg is from a kneeling Guardsman, the left one from a standing guy. Just cut those up the right way and model the robe-thing with Green Stuff

Custom IG...I also ordered lots of guns from Hasslefree Miniatures, heads from PigIron and Muzzle Flashes from Armorcast...y'know, all the bling you don't actually need :-D

Love the officer, the hummer not so much. Maybe once it's painted and the origin of the various bitz is not as obvious.

I've wanted hummers in my army for a while, expecially since I saw Generation Kill. Maybe a 1/35 model would work better?

I like the officer as well, but the Hummer thing just looks funny, it's much to big. It looks like a hummer made for Ogryns.

Studs are easy. Get some thin plastic card and just use a small hole punch (you can get them at art stores like micaels or hobby lobby) and just puch out bunches of small circles and glue em on.

Don't know why this thing looks so damn big in the picture...I mean, it's too big, that's obvious, but IRL it's pretty much Russ size, a little smaller actually.

I'll return to it and make it a little less big

That officer is awesome! Really like him alot. The HUMVEE I think would look alot better if the proportions were more correct. The front windshield needs to come down some or beef up the hood area more to bring it up higher. Now if you are going for the uparmored type alot needs to change with it. You can google search or if you want I can get you some pics of ours out here in the desert.

You can also do rivets using thin slices of plastic rod, or seeing as you're using a lot of card, use the heads of pins (the flat kind not the ball kind of course, clipped off near the head at an angle and pushed into the card before gluing).

I think you'd be better rebuilding the body with plasticard, both for strength and appearance - card is cheap but not long-lasting, may warp when you paint it and when painted will give a different finish than the plastic parts you've used.

The officer is genius. Love it. I really like the Hummer, too. Really though, what guy *doesn't* like a good hummer? /rimshot


I think the issue with the embiggenated humvee is the cab. It's way too tall. A guardsman could stand full monty in one of those windows. The cab and windows are tall like a Land Rover while Hummers are far more narrow. If you cut a full third off of the height, I think you'd have a far better-looking ride:

Well, I'm a friend of the American machinery of war, but ur 'Humvee' isn't a true mockup of the American 'Tank on wheels' (how I like to call this car(?)).

But also, the best congratulations for ur officer...

That officer is incredibly nice. If the rest of your IG will be painted and converted to this standard it will be a beautiful thing.

its a very nice, natural pose for that guy, and reletively simple but effective conversion.

The officer is amazing. The Humvee seems a bit big. Can we get a size comparison next to a LR or a Chimera or Rhino? If it's a smaller vehicle (chimera size) then thats GREAT! But to me it almost looks LR size and there would be problems for setup and LoS.

It looks MUCH better. Not going to lie, it's turning out to look like a nice Humvee thing. I still think the entire thing should be smaller, but if you decided on keeping it that scale, look into making it an armored car.

Write some fluff about the double amputee gunner and how he can serve in the guard despite his disability and how he's just like everybody else and does the same things but in a different way.

It would be truly inspiring.

@OP - the second cut down version is outstanding.

What I mean is all your camera angles are terrible and I can't tell if that guy has legs and you're putting weird bits in weird places. Like the eagle above the windshield and the hood ornament that isn't where hood ornaments go. THIS IS NOT A CHIMERA IT IS A CAR. TWELVE PEOPLE CANNOT FIT INSIDE. THIS DOESN"T MAKE SENSE.

That humvee looks way too big. It's cool no doubt, just too big.

First off, amazing paintjob on your officer model. The pose, the blending, the mud on his boots... all top notch - I can't wait to see more.

The humvee/chimera looks much better with the lower profile (the new modifications you've done to it). Sure, it's slightly larger scale than an actual humvee would be next to a Russ, but since it's being used as a chimera, I think it's the perfect size. Nicely done.

I love how everyone is pointing out all this stuff about the humvee but NOBODY has noticed/mentioned the backwards Russ. I love it! So subtle.

Forget the haters the Humvee is great and I am sure that the other 2 will look just as good. This will make a great army when finished up!
