BS, at this point. No one can claim ignorance that cigs are harmful to your health. It won't save "countless" lives, this is lining someone's pocket with cash. You can especially sense the bs by menthols being left out.

It isn't just flavored tobacco but also clove cigarettes. The only legal flavor in the US is now Menthol.

Yeah thats what I first thought when I read the thread title.

I have never seen flavoured tobacco cigarettes over here (apart from menthol) most of the flavoured tobacco is generaly sold in specialist shops for pipe smokers.

It seems like a bit of a dumb decision to me, most people take up smoking because they think it makes them look cool and is a way of rebeling, not because it tastes nice. All this does is stop those legaly entitled to smoke from enjoying a particular product. The problem isn't that these products appeal to kids, it's that there are idiots willing to sell it to them.

Here in Blighty, you can get flavoured Papers, Flavoured Tobacco, Menthol Filters and little bottles of flavour stuff to drip onto your tab (though why you'd want a wet cigarette is beyond me)

It made the entire smoking section of the restaurant I worked in smell of cherries. Awesome stuff.

They would "save more young smokers" by forcing tobacco companies to give their cigarettes fruity flavors.

I am twenty. This upsets me. I do not smoke.

But if I ever decided to smoke I want to smoke something delicious. Now I can't. Do cloves taste good? They smell really good. Maybe I'll smoke those.

I used to work at a tobacco store and a lot of women liked the Cherry and Vanilla cigarettes. Cloves was about split evenly. You usually only do see them at a tobacconist. They banned them because it was to save the children, because a kid thinks a Chocolate (bleh) cigarette is the same as a Hershey's bar.

The really bad thing is that when they passed it the tobacconist, which are mainly small business's, have to destroy there entire stock. There is no sending it back or getting some kind of compensation. They just have to eat a $1000 loss just like that. The only bright side for the small business owner is it probably can be a tax write off.

i mean if we really want to ban something ban alchohol.
that way more dangrous then smoking.

Hmmm are Marlboro Milds included in the ban? They're chocolate mint, actually quite tasty once in a while. A friend of mine smokes em, and I like to bum one or two off him when we hang out. Really the only menthol cigarette I enjoy. I'm wondering if cigarettes might just end up being the line that gets drawn in the sand. Sooner or later we're going to have to tell big brother that our personal health choices are ours to make, and not his.

Why would it be more enforced now than then? People still like to drink, including cops and politicians.

To answer your second question, you might look at how you present yourself.

Ban alcohol? And give street gangs another avenue of illegal profit? With the ammount of gun related violence over there now, the last thing you need is the gangs having MORE money, to buy MORE guns, and make the death toll HIGHER.

Alot of people drink. Meaning that instead of just drugs to a small minority, the gangs would sell overpriced, badly made, DANGEROUS alcohol to a very large number of people.

This is correct. It is also correct that pipe tobacco can smell awesome. Wouldn't smoke it myself, but it does smell good.

I quite like Caster Vanilla but the last time I came back from Japan they weren't selling them in the airport.

I would love to see our PM try to ban alcohol, he is already about as popular as a bacon sandwich at a Jewish wedding, this would truly tip the country over the edge. There would quite literaly be non stop riots until any ban was revoked. Somewhat ironic that booze would put a stop to violence when it is generaly seen as a catalyst for it!

If anything this move will make them more attractive to kids, "whats that, there are these cool cigarettes that taste of sweets and are illegal, where do I get them?".

Maybe next week they can ban pies, in a move to stop obeisety related deaths.
