INCREMENTS OF WAR (or, the stages of completion):
500 Point NIGHT GOBLIN ARMY
HISTORY IN THE MAKING (where I will catalogue a brief historical comment on the completed units):
Skarsnik, Warlord of the Eight Peaks
Skarsnik, self proclaimed Warlord of the Eight Peaks, Chieftan of the Crooked Moon Tribe, and Overlord of the Red Moon Tribe, the Yellow Tooths, the Crooked Tooths, and many other tribes. Thanks to Skeezer and his Red Moon Tribe, Skarsniks realm and treasury have expanded a great deal lately… and it is for this exact reason that Skarsnik has chosen to pay a personal visit to the home of the Red Moons- to ensure the loyalty of those who claim to serve him.
Skeezer, Night Goblin Big Boss and Chieftan of the Red Moon Tribe
Skeezer became the Chief of the Red Moon tribe through both cunning and luck. He was foraging in the lower peaks of the worlds edge mountains for mushrooms to help soothe his brothers (Snotgit) outbursts of magical energy, when he fell into a deep dark hole. In this hole he discovered a long abandoned dwarf hall, that showed signs of a great battle. In the center of the great hall lay the skeletal remains of a huge dragon, but more importantly, underneath these remains was a huge pile of collected treasure. Always one for moving up in the world, Skeezer knew that he had to somehow use this finding to his advantage, and so he payed a visit first to the current leader of the Red Moon Tribe, Bagnab. Bagnab saw great potential to take this treasure from Skeezer and just as he was about to order his death, Snotgit had one of his typical magical outbursts, causing enough commotion for Skeezer to escape. At this point, Skeezer felt that he had no other option but to gain the support of the most powerful Night Goblin of the Worlds Edge Mountains, Skarsnik. Paying Skarsnik a huge sum of gold, Skarsnik agreed to supply troops to Skeezer in return for the loyalty of the Red Moon Tribe to Skarsnik if Skeezer was able to take control of the tribe. Agreeing to these terms, Skeezer set off with a small contingent of night goblin levies to destroy Bagnab. Reaching the small village where Bagnab resided, Skeezer assaulted Bagnabs tent and easily overthrew the Chieftan. Though the remainder of the tribe was at first reluctant to accept Skeezer's leadership, he convinced them to move the village to his cave at spearpoint, and they soon accepted him as the new Chief. Returning to his secure hold, Skeezer has begun carving himself a small empire, absorbing some of the local goblin tribes into his own, to include the 'Ard Cap's and the Yellow Tooths. Since becoming the Chieftan of the Red Moon Tribe, he has taken the tribe on many raids into Imperial and Dwarven territories at the behest of Skarsik himself. Of late, the tribe is having a lot of encounters with a particular band of Dwarfs who seem to be travelling directly through the Red Moon territory.
Snotgit, Night Goblin Shaman and brother of Skeezer
Snotgit was abnormal from birth. Even as a young goblin, he would have strange outbursts of magical energy that would destroy things around him. Only the magical mushrooms found in the worlds edge mountains are able to control this. It was because of one of these magical outbursts that his brother Skeezer was able to escape with his life and return to claim leadership of the Red Moon tribe. Now, Skeezer keeps Snotgit a steady supply of mushrooms in order to better control the outbursts. Snotgit is also gifted with the ability to make a magical mushroom potion that throws the simplest of goblins into an uncontrollable frenzy.
Skeezers Pride, 32 Night Goblins armed with spears and nets
These goblins are the few that remain from the levie given to Skeezer by Skarsnik. They act as Skeezers personal body guard and are well paid for there services by Skeezer himself. He also ensures that they have a steady supply of the magical mushroom potions made by Snotgit.
The Small Pints, 20 Night Goblins armed with clubs and nets
With the dwarves becoming more and more of a problem in the Red Moon territory, Skeezer has had to look to every available asset to fend off the growing number of attacks. These goblins are much smaller than those that Skeezer normally brings to battle, as they are used primarily to harvest mushrooms in the deeper recesses of the tunnels.
The Red Mass, 20 Night Goblins armed with bows
These goblins are the remainder of able bodied goblins from the Red Moon tribe. Skeezer has organized them into an unorganized rabble of miscreants armed with bows and arrows. Though they are fairly ineffective in battle, they often serve as enough of a distraction for Skeezer to get his main raiding force, Skeezers Pride, into action.
The 'Ard Caps, 3 Snotling Swarms
Through a vision detailed by Snotgit, Skeezer launched in expedition into a side tunnel of his hold to find what Snotgit described as "Mushroom Spirits". After three days of marching through the darkness, the expedition was ambushed by a tribe of snotlings who attempted to scare them off. Not realizing that who they ambushed was only the advance party, Skeezer's main body soon arrived and the battle was easily won. Imprisoning the remaining snotlings, Skeezer threatened to put them to death unless they showed him these Mushroom Spirits. Another half a day trip deeper into the tunnel resulted in the finding of the remainder of the snotling tribe and three chained giant mushrooms, who seemed to possess a life of their own. Skeezer, always the opportunist, offered the leader of the tribe, Snigit, the option to join his tribe or die. Snigit, knowing what a good bargain is, promptly agreed. During battle, Snigit and his tribe herd these mushroom spirits against the enemy. Before battle, Snotgit harvests them for a small mushroom cap that grows off of their backs but is the key ingredient in his magic mushroom potion.
Gnashers, 1 Squig Herd
Given the name due to the razor sharp teeth of squigs, the squigs of the Yellow Tooth tribe have become an integral portion of Skeezers army. Since defeating the leader of the Yellow Tooth, Springer, in single combat (that is another story), this herd has earned its mettle in quite a few skirmishes, acting as a razor sharp speed bump for the brunt of the army. Skeezer hopes to corrall more of the wild squigs that roam the caves of the Yellow Tooth tribe and add them to this force.
Springers Springers, 5 Squig Hoppers
Springers Springers, once the elite of the elite of the Yellow Tooth Tribe, are proving their worth in the Red Moon Tribe. After Springers humiliating defeat to Skeezer (a non-hopper), the frequently intoxicated Springers Springers agreed to serve Skeezer in the same capacity that they served there former master. This may also be in some small part due to a certain potion that Snotgit was experimenting with (on them, unbeknownst to them) and there newfound addiction for this potion that, conveniently, only Snotgit can provide - through Skeezer, of course.
Buhrdur's Bashers, 3 Hill Trolls
The Bashers, as the Red Moon tribe has begun calling these trolls, is a fitting name for such a nefarious group. Either in combat or not, they seem to be bashing something, whether an enemy troop or a stray night goblin. Skeezer knows the value of these trolls, and so accepts the occasional death of one of his own to keep them happy. Part of a much larger tribe of trolls, the Bashers (Bhurdur, Bhargur, and Bhurbar) have been annexxed to Skeezer by Skarsnik for his years of dedicated service, and for constant payments of gold.

This is a really beautiful army, the running themes and stories go to aid in a great cohesive feel. The softer reds and greens create a real fantasy feel that reminds me of the artwork of Brian Froud.
Quite lovely and you should be rightfully proud.

Very nice fluff. I like the lighter and softer colours, also good use of the LOTR Buhrdur(spelling)mini.
Did you sculpt the,"Ard cap,"mushrooms or are they made by a mini company?
Thus far the force is shaping up well and I really like it, keep up the good work.

Deff Dread red Edition: Yeah, I have to double check every time I write his name. The Ard Caps are actually from Reaper Miniatures ( www.reapermini.com), but are out of print at this point, though you can probably still find some floating around on ebay or something like that.
MeanGreenStompa: That is truly a compliment my friend, and I thank you very much.

Love it. All of it. Some really great work here. One of the most natural looking armies I've seen in a long time. Great use of color throughout while still keeping it to the muted natural look. Everything is so warm, with a great paint style. Instant classic. You should be very proud of your work ^_^. Well done.

Yep, it's really so beautiful, it's like those pre Red Age dioramas you used to see.
Remember that one of the undead attacking the dwarf keep over a bridge, there was a mushroom forest in that and a similar colour palate is used.
Again, MK, well done.

SPRINGER'S SPRINGERS
5 SQUIG HOPPERS - 75 POINTS (VOTE AT CMON)
Slappy: More will come, indefinitely mate. Hopefully I will get to the 2000 point mark this year, but who knows. At least to the 1000 point mark would be nice. I am really looking forward to the chance to do Skarsnik though...
MeanGreenStompa: Thanks mate. And it is funny, but I think I know exactly what diorama you are talking about...
grey_death: Thank you mate. Eventually I will add more then just the night gobbos, but I have enough of those to keep the army going strong for a while so I figured, what the heck...

Aha! The Gamezone miniatures wolfriders, so beautiful and so superior to the GW ones!
I love the tiger striped squig, the fanatic mini diorama and the tree planted in the middle of that unit!
I do think the wolf rider needs a little bit more going on on his base, there's a lot of room there.
Amazing stuff!

Well, sorry about the gap in updates last week, but my brother came into town and I convinced him to play a skirmish battle of warhammer with me. We used two of the lists that I am working on painting, the Empire and Goblins. The battle itself was 500 points apiece, and ended in a massacre of the Empire, though in his defense he had horrible luck with the dice.
Gobbos: 20 Speargobbos w/ cmd and fanatic, 20 bowgobbos w/ cmd and fanatic, 3 snotling swarms, 3 trolls, boss, and shaman
Empire: 5 Knights Panther, 10 Spearmen, 5 Crossbowmen, 5 Handgunners, and Luthor Huss
The board itself was set up with three buildings on each side, and a group of 5 trees in the very center. Roughly a 4x6 table.
To make it brief (the game only lasted 5 turns), my brother decided to send the spears with the handgunners and crossbowmen as detachments to the right of the woods, and his knights with Luthor Huss to the left. I sent the bowgobbos (and shaman) and snotlings to counter the knights, the trolls to counter the spears, and the speargobbos (and boss) straight towards the woods with the intent to veer them in the direction they would be needed most. It took about two turns to finally reach each other in about the middle of the board. His knights charged my bowgobbos, who released the fanatic - killing 2 of his knights right away. Finishing his charge he killed one goblin and the shaman. The next turn the speargobbos charged to his flank, and the snotlings were prepared to charge his rear. This was pretty much the end of it for the knights.
On the other side of the table, the trolls had lost the stupidity roll twice in a roll, and so were slowly shambling across the board as my brother shot at them with his handgunners and crossbowmen, though every successful hit resulted in a regeneration. When the trolls finally charged forwards into the spearmen is in the same turn that the knights and Luthor were destroyed, and my brother surrendered the game.
So, here were my observations during the game. It is very hard to believe that Luthor only had two attacks, this severely weakened him in the game compared to the night goblin boss who had three. I thought maybe this was an error in the book, but all warrior priests and Arch Lectors only have two attacks- a significant reduction in their fighting ability. Also, a lack of magic on the side of the empire made it easy to counter every prayer that the priest attempted to cast. I think to make this army any good, it will take adding a magician in the next installment of the empire. Finally, the fanatics really tore into the knights from the beginning (and this is not to mention that I forgot about the other fanatic with the speargobbos, but by the point I remembered the empire was already being crushed).
Any thoughts?
BTW, more painting updates coming at the end of the weekend.
Meangreenstompa: I am looking to put a stream on the lower portion of the base, and some more vegetation at the top.

Yeah, he should have ignored your trolls and shot the crap out of the goblins to break them. Riding up with heavy cav to a unit you know has fanatics in it is rather odd.
I'd have brought the cav in a rear charge on the trolls once they got across and engaged the spears.

You are an inspiration, Mousekiller. You certainly helped to raise the bar for my ambitions.
Can we see a closer shot of that tree in the new unit? I can't tell if there is anything going on around the trunk.
I'm waiting on a cord to upload pics of my night goblins, but when their up, I'd sure like to hear what you have to say.
Keep up the amazing work. Automatically Appended Next Post: ps love the new standard

GNASHERS - continued
Gnashers, 2 Squig Herds
Given the name due to the razor sharp teeth of squigs, the squigs of the Yellow Tooth tribe have become an integral portion of Skeezers army. Since defeating the leader of the Yellow Tooth, Springer, in single combat (that is another story), this herd has earned its mettle in quite a few skirmishes, acting as a razor sharp speed bump for the brunt of the army. Skeezer hopes to corrall more of the wild squigs that roam the caves of the Yellow Tooth tribe and add them to this force.
Manufacturer: Games Workshop
Sculptor: Juan Diaz and (The Chase Models) Thais Mariblanca Lopez
Completed: 1st Herd - 3 Jul 2007 2nd Herd - 18 May 2010

I feel like I am answering a question to which the answer is perfectly obviously, but what models are those trolls? I am thinking LOTR.
