Hello All,

This is my first PLOG ever . I have been a (somewhat) long time lurker here on dakka and have only in the last few months joined and began posting. I have really liked the PLOGs that everyone does and have been wanting to do one myself. Well now that i have purchased a new camera i can do just that.

My current main project is coming up with a solid scheme that i am going to rock on the new tau army i will be working on for a "tale of many gamers" at my flgs.

I really dig the Vior'La scheme with the exception of the catachan green, so i swapped it for some grey. I would greatly appreciate all comments/advice/suggestions everyone has to offer. I will try to get some of my other stuff up here tonight as well; but if not tonight, in the next few days.

Here is a firewarrior i am working on. He is the "most" completely in paint of the six i am working on. I have been having trouble coming up with a good highlight color for the armor (gw rotting flesh). Please dont flame me for not looking at the gw paint chart where the answer is waiting for me. I, like most nerds, am pretty lazy and try to do as little as possible. Well enough babbling, lets get to the pictures! Please let me know what you guys think as far as highlighting.

Yikes... maybe i shouldnt have bought a good camera. Now i can see all the crappy stuff i neglected. Well at least these are just the test minis.

More stuff to come!

And here are the Grey Knights i am working on for a buddy of mine. He is paying me a small sum to paint them for them (dont look at me about the prep, im just painting ). I originally thought it wouldnt be that much of a job. Since then i have been distracted by several other projects and now that i have had them for several months i have decided it is time to get them done. I live in a somewhat small 1 bedroom apartment and use the "dining room" as my hobby space. So, his bag-o-minis is taking up what limited amount of room i have.

Without further adue...

Now with this guy, i am going for somewhat of a "crackling with psychic energy" look. The back part of his cloak i think looks pretty good, but i am not to keen on the bolts themselves. They look too "painted on" So i think i am going to go back and add some ambient glow around them to make them look a little more realistic. What do you guys think.

Doing a thin outline on all the lightning things will really make them pop off the model I think. As you said, right now they only look painted on :(

I was thinking about taking some blue to it like i did towards the bottom of the cloak.

More Pics:

Stripping some more stuff down for prime & paint.

here's a bunch of suits i just finished Stripping down.

Im using super clean. It is working pretty well, considering there were several heavy layers of paint. In some places the paint was so thick the recesses between the armor plates were barely visible.

I don't know that I'd outline them, but I'd consider highlighting one edge or transitioning
the lightning closer to the top with a lighter color and then fading the lower edges by layering
cloak highlights over them (very thin paint so that the lightning peeks through).

May not get any more work done this weekend, and sunday if any. I have a practice game tonight for a team tournament tomorrow. Its a 1250x2 team tournament at Imperial Outpost in Phoenix. Several guys from my group and I are driving up there in the morning to try our luck at it. I will be running my Templars and he will be running his 'nilla marines. then our other buddies are going to be Daemons and 'nillas. Wish us luck!

Well everything but my tau are going to the back burner for a little while now. More like a long while actually. Today marks the opening day of our tale of many gamers at my FLGS, so now i have to get to building and tweaking on my army for this month.

For my first 500 points I will be running:

Shas'O - 249
---Hard-wired Drone Controller; Hard-wired Multi-tracker; Stimulant Injector; Missile Pod; Shield Drone; Shield Drone; Plasma Rifle; Shield Generator
---Bodyguard: Flamer; Failsafe Detonator; Hard-wired Target Lock; Twin Linked Missile Pod

Fire Warriors - 175
---Shas'La w/ Pulse Rifle x6
---Devilfish: Smart Missile System; Disruption Pod; Landing Gear; Multi-Tracker

Fire Warriors - 80
---Shas'La w/ Pulse Rifle x8

I wanted to run a sniper team, they would have been pretty nice in this small of a points level, but we are restricted to only HQ and Troops. So i had to adjust accordingly. I believe i will be the only player running any armor this early in the game, hopefully that will play to my advantage and not handicap me for not having many troops. Comments?

Good looking mini's BT. Guess I have some competition with the Tale of Many Gamers, so much for an easy win lol.

Great basing and action posing.

Yeah, after seeing what you have going on with your guys i am definately going to be stepping it up. Unfortunately i dont see that much potential for doing conversions and such for Tau. But then again I am a Tau noob. I will be trying my hand at some semi-advanced reposing though. I have already done some arm and leg cuts and pins. they are awaiting some green stuff currently. I will post some pics up when i get home this evening.

I would like some advice on the urban bases, i am new to them and would like to know what you guys do to make them look interesting and different from each other. I find what i have done with these six to be a little dry, and it will really look old after a squad or two go like that. Maybe something a little more dramatic than a concrete block or gas can etc. I was thinking of doing a few hiding behind a low wall for the squatting poses or something like that.

C&C please.

Well as you know with basing (and your army in general) stick to the same theme (painting, basing, etc). I would keep the urban base theme but look at the different squads and keep each of them with their own mini theme. Like you said, by a low wall or moving through some rubble, steel grating, etc.

Before you start cutting, I would do some sketching of what poses you want. If you have an action figure, like gijoes, then use them to establish action poses, then sketch them. That will make it easier when you start cutting and pinning. Sometimes combat action poses get a little bland, especially when every models is that way. Another pose could be standing around consulting auspex, cleaning weapons, etc.

Ok guys, before i switch completely over to my Tau I have decided to post some pics of my Templars. These Templars were the army i started out with back in 3rd edition.

This is my (main) Marshall. He is based off the old Sicarius model.

This is my Emperor's Champion. He is pretty much a Upgrade Sprue special, with brother captain stern's Nemesis force sword.

This is my footslogger Chaplain. He is based off the Dark Angels Chaplain Azurius (sp?). I have had him since i started. That was back when you had to buy dark angel's stuff to get the cool cloak look.

Here are my Helbrecht and Grimaldus models. (Helbrecht without his sword. No matter how many different ways i pin it, it still comes off eventually)

And my Command Squad.

A close up of my freehand stuff on the command squad.

And my Bodyguard for this list.

My magnets came in today, so i am about to go start working on him and getting him all magnetized up. Hope everyone enjoys the new pics! as always any comments are welcome.

Whats up guys! Here's what i got done last night.

I'm going to do all my suits like this, Magnetize all 6 mounting points.

Here are both of the ones im using in this list. Im going to fill in all the gaps on the other one too. I think i like the smooth look alot better.

And last but not least, with the weapons they will have.

What do you guys think?

Alright, so here's my next attempt at the urban bases. I am going for a "taking cover in ruins" look.

So what do you guys think about my second attempt. I tried to go a little more dramatic. Would you add more?

Alright guys, here is what i got done over the weekend. I could have done a bit more, but as those of you who know me could vouch for, I am pretty darn lazy. But anyway... onto business:

The suits with an airbrush basecoat of rotting flesh. If you look close you can see where i cut in the damage.

Here are the fire warriors primed and black washed. If you look at them in my gallery you will be able to zoom in and actually see the details in the "concrete" now that it has been washed.

Ok guys i really need some opinions here. I have been debating whether or not to go over the top of this with some grey shapes to make urban camouflage. but i cant decide between doing that and just putting some red in places and painting them up like the firewarriors are. Please let me know what you think to help me decide.

Personally, I feel that of all the races in 40k Tau would be one of the most likely to use camo - I would like to see it done up in an urban camo scheme. The models are interesting enough that they could also be really cool with the striking red (Shep's are kind of like that) but I think that camo would make it stand out more at a tourney, especially with all the terrain built on your bases. Sorry I missed this before.

I agree you should go for an urban camo look on those tanks. Looking good so far, the action like positioning of the warriors on those bases are very nice.

personally I liked your paint job more on the templars then I did the tau. I would thin down the paint a liittle and maybe doing a stronger base layer as in a few times with the paint as I think this would clean up the overall effect of the models more. Also as a rule of thumb if you have 1 scenery piece per every 3 models in a squad on the base you are doing ok without overdoing it. The walls just kinda detract from the squad on a whole with so many of them up.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

The Firewarriors rotting flesh was severely watered down, it took 2 or 3 coats to bring it up to what it is now. On the Suits and the fish i airbrushed the rotting flesh on. Now i have gone back on those and done all the lining between the armor with black. I will post up some pics of them in their current state of paint tonight.

As for the camo on the fish. I could airbrush several different colors of grey/black in abstract shapes in the typical tau camo fashion. But, I would like to do something not so common. I have a pretty cool idea for the stealth stuff, but I dont have anything really cool for the regular camo.

Next month the squad will be finished out to 12 models, i had already planned not to do anymore big walls. Maybe another one or two of the rubble walls that they are running through/around.

Ok here are some pics of what i am going for with my suits and the eventual overall look for the army. The idea i am shooting for is an expeditionary cadre scouting ahead of the 3rd sphere reclamation force. Thus the extremely weathered battle beaten look. Since they are far ahead of the main force they usually operate without reinforcement and repair. Well let me know what you think.

I haven't highlighted the black yet. I was getting tired as i was doing it, so i just took the pictures and uploaded them so i can go to bed.

What do you guys think about the highlighting and rusting and such?
