Hey!

I played my Crimson Fists against Necrons last week, and I got slaughtered!

Damn the Monolith, Damn the 'getting back up again', Damn the Nightbringer, most other things were fairly ok to take out.

Full on, Full on!

fists should have an easier time than most to kill necrons.

sternguard will flat out WRECK nightbringer. wound on a 2+, and it only gets a 4+ save.

once he's dead, there is nothing to challenge you in hand to hand, so just get in there and mix it up with tac marines / terminators. ignore the monolith, and phase the necrons out. easy.

I've never been even remotely challenged by necrons with my marine force.

Close combat against everything the necrons got. To take out the lord a simple heavy weapons team can usually knock him out in 2 turns, since that 4+ save means crap for the most part. Plus, just ignore the monolith, if you concentrate heavy enough on the warriors, he will be forced to teleport each turn instead of firing to keep his phase out. Once the nightbringer like horst said is taken out by either a dev squad or sterngaurd, just get some close combat in on the necrons and its over.

This is good.... isn't it?

Charge at the Warriors with power weapons and cause Phase Out. If there's a Monolith hang back a bit and make them come towards you. Strenguard any C'Tans if they're there, if they're not just use the AP 3 rounds at them. It's a risk with Gets Hot, but its always worked for me.

If you have a Vindicator aim it at the Warriors. The most annoying things will be Wraiths and Monoliths. Wraiths are as survivable as a Space Marine, but their save is Invulnerable so they can stand up to bigger things. I once locked them in Combat with a Dreadnought and it kept them there for the rest of the game. Try not to worry to much about the Monolith, getting Phase Out is usually easier than killing it.

Main strategy for Marines is to focus on Destroyers, Warriors and Immortals. Kill the 'easy' targets and force them to choose between going after your force or protecting the remaining Necron models from phase out. Destroyers and Warriors caught in the open are extremely susectiple to ST8+ shooting and, in the case of destroyers, small unit size combine to negate most WBB rolls.

Well, you mean defeating Necrons, not the Necron player, right?

Necrons are not that hard too take on with SM.
First, ignore the d*** Monolith and go for the phase out.
Second, if he fields a C'tan then take some Scouts with Sniper rifles as they can easily wound high-toughness models.
Finally, Termies are generally hard to take down for Necrons.

That reminds me definitely Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields for the Terminators. They have so much rending you'll want the 3++ save.

Necrons don't have any Rending at all, actually.

Nope...they are a really crappy version without the good stuff from actual rending.

Generally it means they can always wound Wraithlords (and tougher stuff) and glance any AV11+ on 6's.
Nothing else really.

Ignore the monolith (as suggested) and go for the infantry units instead.
If you 'have' to kill the monolith, use something Str 10...Codex Vanilla has a bunch of str 10 stuff funny enough.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

lol I played a necron player once... he had alot of warriors, 2 monoliths, and some destoyers. he thinks its a good idea to hold both monoliths and the warriors in reserve. deep strikes both monoliths right in front of my lines...next turn, I manage to immobilize one with a lascannon shot, and kill the other with a dreadnought power fist. I blocked the entrance to his other lith, and he phased himself out with warriors comming in and being instantly destroyed.

Pretty much that. Enjoy being a jerk even if you weren't trying to be. I kid.

As others have stated jsut push for phase out, ignore the monolith, and smear the warriors with power weapons.

Great advice here guys!

The same guy played a Tyranid player this evening, and got beaten awfully, tho the guy was a pretty experienced nid player from what I know.

I Drew against Imperial guard but I nearly lost.

Damn Battle cannon took out my entire tactical squad in one bang! So unlucky like.

I find tyranids to be a very imposing force if played right. We have an undefeated Tyranid player at the local comic shop. And I still have not felt the wrath of imperial gaurd armour or the army yet.

This is good.... isn't it?

S7 AP2 Blasts make big holes in any MEQ battleline. 5 pts each in tactical squads are always worth it.

Well... it depends.
Generally ignore it.
But if a significant amount of Necron Warriors are in reserve to use the doors...and you have enough str 10 and str 9 to gamble taking them down, it's worth it IMO.

But only if you are feeling frisky about that.

AS I agree with most of the suggestions here about how to beat necrons, I will offer another: Mech spam. Any army that spams vehicles and lots of small units will give necrons a fit. I use to love building competitive Necron builds, and use to win every now and then. But that was before the new IG codex come and ruined my day.

Plasma Cannons aren't spectacular against Necrons. They still get their WBB (Because it doesn't inflict Instant Death), and if the Necron player is smart, he'll warp them through the Monolith so that they can re-roll their WBB.

Go after their warriors and go for phase out. Give your tactical squads power fists and assault the warriors and kill them with the sweeping advance so they don't get a will be back.

Vindicators are your best bet if you actually want to try and kill a monolith but your better off shooting warriors and insta killing them.
