I was walking through London last Tuesday on my way to lectures, when I saw Jeffrey Wright come out of a side street. Now I was pretty excited by this because he is genuinely one of my favourite actors (if you haven't seen Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil, watch it now!). He caught me staring at him, so I looked away and carried on walking. Sadly it turned out to be a pretty crap "I've just seen somebody famous" story, because when I got to uni, nobody had heard of him (kids these days!). The best I could manage was a flicker of recognition when I said, "You know, the guy who plays Felix Leiter in the current Bond movies."
Oh well, I thought it was cool anyway.

Oh, I loved him in the 'Shaft' re-make: " Tiger Woo' "
I've met Lenny Henry! He complemented me on my Nirvana T-shirt. I was 14.

Ok... in a pathetic attempt to keep pace with Ahtman, I've also met Alexi Sayle (British Comedian and Writer) at one of his book readings. Americans probably won't know him, but he pops up in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as the Sultan of Hatay (the Nazis bribe him with an expensive car to allow them to go hunting for the Grail in his country).

I've had a coffee with David Bowie and his wife Iman, very nice folks, I talked enthusiastically to them about Nine Inch Nails, a couple of years later he worked with Trent Reznor and I often ponder if Bowie said to Reznor 'Yeah, I got to hear about you from some kid in Cornwall when me and the missus were on holiday'.
Also had a New Years Eve with Dame Judy Dench and her late husband Michael and their daughter Finty. Really lovely people.
Been out on a drinking spree with Thandie Newton. She's a hella and evil flirt, good drinking buddie though, derived much satisfaction from having her on my arm, walking into a club and watching every damned bloke in there look over and instantly hate me.
Collided with Les Dennis outside the Bristol Hippodrome about a year ago whilst he was on his mobile, nice fella, instantly apologised (his scouse accent is far stronger off tv) and we laughed.
Got smiled at by the actress who plays the ghost in Being Human, Lenora Critchlow, last week on the waterfront. Very pretty lass.

Pretty impressive list MGS and extra points for contact and conversation.

Erm... I saw Hollie Avil (Olympic triathlete) and Mo Farah (Olympic athlete) whilst taking part in the Great South Run. I shouted encouragement at Miss Avil who looked at me briefly in a somewhat condescending manner. She's pretty cute though, so I'll take any kind of look.

I met Paul Walker in a car hire place in Santa Barbara, although, i say met, my girlfriend and her mate went and met him to get a photo. I just sat there thinking "who the feth is that bloke?"
I also saw Paul Daniels once, and i shouted "Paul! Im from Middlesbrough!" In Spain on holiday when i was about 13 and he said "feth off!"
He sounded a bit drunk ..
I met Chubby Brown several times, and he always told me to feth off as well.
I dont think i have met anyone famous from Middlesbrough who hasnt told me to feth off...

Any hockey player of note from 89-97 (Gretzky, Yzerman, Iggy, Gilmour, etc.) The late great John Candy (RIP), Doug Flutie, David Carradine, David Hasselhoff, a bunch of Pro Wrestlers - Big Bossman, Ted DiBiase, Kamala, Steve Rotundo, Macho Man. The Queen, twice. Once in Canada and once at the University of Durham.
I'd have to say John Candy was the best. He was so funny joking around with me and my buddy for about 5 or so minutes. Class guy. He was awesome.

Here is a picture of Mr. Norris I took at a rally he did in Waco. I met him out back afterward and even shook his hand! But sadly not pictures of the two of us

I saw Andy Parsons coming out of a Incubus concert in Brixton. I was incredibly drunk and said "Aren't you that funny guy?" which he replied "Yes, I am."
I knew who he was so I don't know why I said that. I was probably trying to be funny.

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports. Ominous . . .
As for me, I can't recall ever meeting or even seeing a famous person. Well, Robert Bork did "teach" at my law school and so I had him for a class a couple of weeks for two semesters. My conclusion? The Senate may have done him wrong but the country dodged a bullet.

I think that's less the fault of youth and more the fault of : he isn't actually that famous.
When my parents where together they ran a rally club and were good friends with Jimmy Mcrae, father of WRC drivers Alistair Mcrae and the late Colin Mcrae. And I apparently knew them (they would have been teenagers at the time) when I was younger, too young for me to remember though.

Well, he bloody should be. Daniel Craig may have ponced about Casino Royale wearing skimpy blue swimming trunks, but he didn't get to say the film's coolest line, "Keep the fruit." (Leiter joining in on a round of Bond's new cocktail, but declining the superfluous lemon peel).
Jeffrey Wright is also superb in Ride with the Devil, a nicely understated performance making Tobey Maguire, Johnathan Rhys Myers and Skeet Ulrich look like rank amateurs (admittedly, this is mainly because they are rank amateurs).

Stephen King was my nephew's little league coach.
Another time I was flying my family back east and my son, who was at the time 4, had a rubber knife he was playing with as we walked to ou seats. A elderly looking passenger asked if the people at the gate let him on with that and I replied not to worry since my son was the air marshall for the flight.
I knew immediatly who it was, but my wife said it best. She told me that when she first looked at him, she just thought it was a wrinkled old man, but then she realized it was the famous wrinkled old man, Steve Tyler.
