Which do you think is better for priming models:
Black?
or white?

I personally prefer black, its a little more forgiving if you dont paint up to the edge, and it creates its own shadows. If I have to do a colour like red or yellow, I just layer grey on first, then use the colour.

My preference is black for large groups of models and white for smaller. Like granesh said, black is more forgiving which helps getting through the horde, while white makes the colors stand out more.

So far, these two posts are correct.
Im a fan of black primer simply because it does do its own shadowing if you are careful not to get paint into the recessed areas of a model.
If you're painting dark colors, stick with black as the paint applied wont show stroke marks if it is uneven, and the opposite is the same for light colors and white primer.
I also have an aversion towards white primer cause where I live in the super-arid state of Colorado, white paint dries unmercifully fast and leaves coats looking like you dusted white on the models. Totally not fun if you are trying to get a smooth coat.
Happy painting!

The greenskin color is the exact same shade as snot green, the base color of my marines. Makes painting VERY fast
my flgs carries the stuff, so I don't have to pay shipping.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

i tend to use white for painting my eldar
they're brightly coloured and shouldn't be in too much shadow
black for painting my marines
it adds lowlights and makes everything look cooler

Depends on the colour scheme and effects wanted.
No point imho trying to cover black if the colour is a light hue.

I use white for models which are small or are going to have bright colours.
I find black too murky.

I basecoat in black all the time now.
If I am going for a bright color, I paint white over the black basecoat where the color is going to go. 2-3 thin coats works just fine without obscuring details

Depends on the colours and effects your trying for. white would be awesome for Imprial fists, and white scars. black for night goblins and dark eldar and dark elves, (if you were fallowing the GW Hm team themes). personally i use both, its a question always of the right tool for the right job.

always depends on what colors you want to use and how you want them to look like.
every color looks different on different basecoats and has a different coverage.

It usually depends on what I'm painting.
For example my Iron warriors are primed black, and my Imperial fists are primed white. On the other hand I'll occasionally use grey primer, for a more muted colour.

depends on what color im going to paint them and how dark i want the models to look. For my chaos I use black because they are a darker army. But for my eldar I use white because they look like they just fell out of a rainbow and I want the lighter colors to show better.

there's a company out there that has a great primer that's the same colour as goblin green
that's what my friend uses for his orks

Depends on what models I'm painting, if Im painting models with darker, muted colors I'll go with black, but if I want to be able to paint bright vibrant colors without all the work I'll go white.

I'll always go with white basecoat, because I'm not patient enough to layer on enough thin layers on black to make it really look good. It's much faster, I believe, to use white primer. It's also much easier to spot areas you missed..
