Ok, posting in my last thread on this topic would have meant serious threadomancy, so starting a new one.
Not really bothered with this since the Angels episode, but caught 30 minutes of last night's effort and was pretty impressed. Monster makeup was at least of Buffy standard, atmosphere would have been pretty scary for kids (disecting humans whilst still conscious... nice!), Amy's skirt length has still not dropped much lower than her waist and it had a line that was either very cool or just brilliantly delivered by Matt Smith. On discovering that one of the villagers is going to bring a load of axes, cricket bats, crow bars and the like back to the church so they can defend themselves, he says...
"I don't do weapons." The villager is defiant and the Doctor continues in a friendly tone, "Come on, I'm asking nicely." with a facial expression that suggests he isn't asking nicely at all. Matt Smith is so much better at this lark than Tennant (or maybe he has less silliness to deal with in the script).

Silurians are back, cool. I really liked the unusual argument of 'actually it was their planet millions of years before you claimed it'.
So they aren't some interlopers from beyond the stars, we humans are the trespassers in their eyes.
The added 'predator' helms and sight were good.
Pond continues to delight, wearing that belt and calling it a skirt was certainly not objected to here.
I hope we at least get reference to the Sea Devils, they were my favourites as a kid.

I too really liked the fact that It was the monsters planet first. Smith is alot better then Tennant, but these darn two parters are starting to get annoying.

I started watching Doctor Who again after I heard there was a new Doctor. I got *really* tired of Tennant's constant barring of teeth and crazy acting. Matt Smith just fits the role better IMO, he isn't ridiculuously over the top like his predecessor.
(I was also slightly "intrigued" by the doctor's new assistant.)
Good episodes so far, though that "Starship UK" one was abit stupid.

I've got to say, I've loved the series so far, the writing and the new Dr have both been fantastic, the only episode I've been slightly hung on is the Dalek episode.
If your going to make new Daleks, please, PLEASE! Don't make them look like a Renault Megane!

We've been discussing this in the DCM forum and the overwhelming consensus is that Amy Pond's skirts are a reason to watch alone, and Matt Smith is probably the best Doctor in quite a few regenerations.
I've taken to the new series immediately and whereas for the Tennant years I'd watch it if it was on, it is now my must see TV show of the week.

Starship UK was the Space whale episode, 'Victory of the Daleks' was the one with Spitfires in space.

I liked in the Weeping Angels episode 1 where River Song explains that the wheezing sound is because the Doctor left the brakes on, and he explains it by saying he likes the noise.
Also easter eggs like when he pretends to be law enforcement and shows his library card: But the picture on it is of the first doctor.
Matt Smith is like Tennant but without the ADHD. The much more toned down and occasionally serious without going wide eyed caractature is much more enjoyable to watch. Also he dressed like a dag, bowtie and all.

Last Saturday's episode was poor. It did have some good dialogue but the pacing was piss poor. A waste of a double episode especially since some of the other episodes such as the Dalek felt rushed.

I must say that I too love the new Doctor. Even my Dad, who has watched Doctor Who since it began, says he really likes Matt Smith.
I could help but love the Vampires in Venice one. "The only thing uglier than you is your mum" is now one of my favourite Doctor Who lines. Who new fish were so sensitive?
I will definately shortlist this season to my gift list.

Tennant was sooooo cool - can't see why everyone is so down on him. New doctor OK - seems a bit young though to me (or is that a sign I must be getting old I wonder?). Script writing variable. The dream lord episode was great but the Dalek episode was dire (nationalistic crap I thought). Amy Pond'sexellent of course. All in all it's still very watchable but what have they done to the theme tune - it's aweful!

What? When was that?
I won't bag on Tennant, I thought he was a fine Doctor, though sometimes the dialogue was questionable. I like Smith so far as well; he really seems to pull off the old guy in young guys body thing.

I thought Tennant was the best doctor since Tom Baker. But if this guy is even better then I cant wait for the united states to catch up with the series.
I really wish north america would get on the ball with Dr. Who. Ever since the 70's we have been several years behind the UK releases.

I'm pretty sure iplayer only works inside the UK. It doesn't work here in the republic of Ireland anyhow.
But you can stream it pretty fast anyhow- I get mine that way, since I don't have a telly with good enough reception ot pick up BBC.
