wow, i wish i had won the opportunity to travel hundreds of miles spending hundreds of dollars on room and board to win a piece of painted cardboard!

Man, GW needs to at least put a little effort into making the winner feel like they won something, rather than winning a lighter wallet!

Wow! Not much to show for it...

The competition is the main prize. Being able to win a tournament so big is the prize. Hordes of loot is not the reaon to play. People who only play to win a bunch of boxes and blisters will cheat there way to a win. Those are not the type of people we want to play against. Besides the 2nd round champ gets almost $1000 in merchandise, that's prize enough. The 3rd round winners get a unique trophy. I'd take a trophy over more boxes of Land Raiders. I have stuff on my shelf that hasn't been taken out of the shrink wrap yet.

I think the disappointment derives from the fact that they said the "prize" would be great and never said what it was... based on previous prizes I feel like that poor fellow may have gotten duped. Also, he may have placed 3rd in the second round and then would not have gotten $1000 in merchandise. It was a rather expensive trip o shroud the final "prize."

Those folks are lucky he wasn't a real Ork....his waggghhhh may have allowed him to fire that weapon! "Wot, dis da prize.... Waaaagggghhh!"

Wow... Kinda makes me want to go play Magic The Gathering. At least when you win big tournaments playing that game you get huge cash prizes.

A thousand American dollars equates to three scotch eggs and twelve penguin bars in the UK.

The "grand champion" equivalent at Golden Demons gets a sword (or axe), and they don't have the opportunity to win swag in prelims. So...quit yer whinin' I guess. I don't know. It's a fun trophy, was the winner actually disappointed with it?

you're right, the money spent on a warhammer army is nothing compared to the money spent on one tournament winning deck.

Actually the winner had won 1st during the prelims and semi finals. So he got Nice prizes along the way.2,500 blood angels army. He was just Really excited to win And he was so nice to us. Let us get an interview.im glad that he won.

See, that's awesome then. Glad he didn't let "only getting a unique trophy" spoil his day.

If it was a true honest trophy then great but if it was something made of cardboard or flimsy in general then that would be a bit of a let down. But the people at GW have said time and time agian this isnt really a game that is ment to be played competivly and I think this kind of shows that.

I mean you cant honestly say you wouldnt enjoy the game more if you could make a fluff as all get out army to your hearts content and not have to worry about getting face rolled as there is no such thing as "competitive builds/units"

By all means, I think a unique trophy is a fine prize- I just thought the trophy itself looked like a bit of a dud. Maybe it's the angle of the camera, but it looks really boxy... just not what I was expecting when I clicked on the link is all!

Mildly. I played him at Table 1 in the Prelims. I'm betting you can guess how that went.

I post on the same local board as him and correspond occasionally as well.

Its not cardboard or cheap at all. Its acrylic and quite heavy and sturdy to boot. They were custom made and painted. I watched this particular one being painted and detailed and can assure you its very cool. But I am an Ork player and would love to have one on the wall in my game room so i might be a bit jaded.

Imho should have been a gun to resemble the army you won with, Chaos Bolters, Lasgun, Shoota, etc etc you get the idea. Much better symbolism.

Seriously THAT was the price for the winner? Bummer... Couldn't they have sprung for something nicer?

What do daemon players get then? a big ole mouth to look like the soul grinder or a harvester?

I believe the problem is that they painted a full-sized gun like you would a miniature. Don't get me wrong, the paintjob is great, but you don't use the same techniques and expect to get a realistic full-sized piece. It looks a little cartoonish. The weathering is what really throws it off for me, it's too neat. I think the shape would work well if it was painted a bit more realistically (for a make-believe gun!).
