There are many interesting people in this world.

I have met a lot of annoying gamers who would basically talk about random fluff crap in the middle of a multi player game.We were all getting really pissed off cuz we can't find some of the rules and were arguing, and the guy was just trying to talk over us and say"you know which one is my favourite model?Look at this dude, I call him the butt cracker..."
And there were people who ask for free stuff and literally pick up other people's model and start painting and say"I can help you out" and then mess up by pouring paint all over the table and the poor model.

I wonder if anyone ever met these kinda people in their store. This might be posted before but I think its worth posting again, lets talk about wierdos!

I was paintinig models in my FLGS once, and this guy who nobody had ever seen before kept coming over and critizizing my paint job and color scheme. Now normally, I love critizism, it helps me improve, but when people meke comments like;
"Your color scheme sucks. They look like gak and shouldn't be here."
And then proceeds to pick up one of my models and paint it, that is something I cannot abide.

Sheesh, you guys meet a lot of awful people in this hobby! My luck's been pretty good with other gamers. Even going to gaming conventions I generally don't meet people who are bad enough to pick up your mini and paint it after insulting your work. The worst I've ever gotten is a cranky old grognard here and there.

It did indeed happen. That was just one incident, however, and I've been playing 40k for almost 4 years now.

As to chowderhead's question, I calmly grabbed the model out of his hands, put it down with the others, and told him that he should probably leave. The glares from the rest of the people there were a great help.

There was a regular in the GW I went to in Toronto years, and years, and years ago who was an older social misfit with poor hygiene. He spoke funny all the time, knew none of the rules, made his own rule book and his own races to be competitive. I remember 'Octopoids', some kind of milliput/cat hair monster with characteristics of 10 across the board that could move and fire heavy weapons. I saw him win one game, once. 12 year old newbies would hand this guy a massacre. He had been, or was in the military. He was harmless enough, but a bit out there.

There was one other time I was playing at a FLGS in Calgary during a Saturday Warhammer event and there was some nutter with eyes that were looking at me and the ceiling at the same time who just wouldn't shut up about some game called 'Werewolf' or something. Then he went on into this Epic tale of how some guy in his gaming group was on LDS (he said LDS, although I imagine he meant LSD) who tried to rape one of the other players during their gaming session. Then he talked about tits for about 30 minutes. Never saw him again.

We have a guy that will insult people's models and pick them up and look at them... some of the guys at the store have been upset with him for it except for the very top guy, who laughs because he knows he's the best there, and the newbie (ie me). Thus I generally make it a point to distract him from the other guys' army's for a little while and let him critique my not so well painted army. The real annoying part is he's always trying to buy these poorly painted models by undercuting the person so he can sell them on feebay. My termie squad for $15? No thanks. He's not too brash about it imo and is generally polite, or tries to be, but that just might be a case of my apathy over the quiet insults to my toy soldiers.

There are quite a few people at my FLGS who annoy the hell out of us all... Magic players who are just a little too exuberant about their love/hate of certain cards... thank God Yu-Gi-Oh died off and we don't have a crap-ton of ten-year-olds running around...

But the worst are lurkers: the people who hang over your shoulder as you play. When I observed at Ard Boyz, I kept my distance and saved all questions/conversations til the end, unless invited by my buddy's opponent. But to have someone lean over and look at your stuff makes me want to draw real blood with Belial's little power sword...

One of the local stores where I play sometimes is inside a large shopping mall. It's a slightly ghetto mall too (not too bad, just on the edge). The non-gamer walk-through traffic is the worst. I've had this conversation like ten times before.

Hood Rat: Y'all playin dice?
Mike Leon: No. This is Warhammer 40,000.
Hood Rat: Aw. How much you got ridin' on this?
Mike Leon: We're not betting anything.
Hood Rat: Why you play then?

I don't know how to answer the last question so I just stand and stare at them creepily until they walk away.

Mall rat kids are lame too. They come in and try to tease or insult us a lot, often under the guise of being genuinely interested. They'll ask question about the game and then sort of snicker to their friends when they think no one is looking. Occasionally they pocket people's figures to impress their friends. It happened to me once. I lost a Grey Knight Justicar.

Thankfully I have never had such problems as you describe AND my lgs's are ALL GWs! (i live in a gakky part of south wales where there is as much interest in GW as there is in not having 3 children before you are 21, so nearest place is minimum 1/2 hour drive).

Only one similar event I can relate, so i'm the kind of guy who still carries his stuff around in boxes placed inside bigger boxes, and not a scrap of foam to be seen, so usually while the opponent is deploying I am repairing half my army . So anyway, this kid comes up, who also plays orks (we all know him, he was pretty cool) and starts plastic gluing the arms back onto my nobz! normally i would have been pissed, but the kid managed to glue the arms back on in almost the same places (give or take 1/2mm) to the way I had carefully posed them the first time I had stuck them together! so instead all I could replay was, 'cool, thanks, you got the poses right as wel!', i mean he was like 12, but got the arm/gun to line up the way I had (in fact, his gluing still holds strong, and can be seen in my gallery on the nob with squig perch).

Don't know where you guys all go, but my GW is pretty cool.

I don't hate this guy, but there's a guy at my FLGS who's pretty annoying. Won't shut up about how great his army is, and most of the models are terrible proxies (I don't mind proxying, but this guy uses Rat Ogres as Daemon Princes) and he genuinely thinks he's some kind of genius for just discovering CSM Lash-Spam.

Beat his army, he'll either ignore the fact that you won or point out moments when he killed a couple of your models to make himself feel better. And he has the dumbest ideas sometimes. 80 Skaven Slaves? Understandable. An Entire Army? Ok, funny. But what's that you say? It's unbeatable? TOP TIER? I... can't use the words in polite company to describe how dumb that is.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

That sounds exactly like an old ''friend'' of mine. Everything I did was considered ''bad, mediocre'', when his models were some of the worst I have seen.I mean, no shading, highlights,or detail. A space marine would be JUST chaos black, with JUST shining gold trim, and JUST chainmail globbed on the gun, and that's all.(oh, and red eyes.)

My good friend describes the jerk's tyranids '' looks like he dipped the model in green paint, and painted their feet red''.

God do I hate that guy, everything I ever did he put down, and I was always called ''the artist'' at school...
