If you mean why I buy my models from where I buy them...

I buy mine from my local GW so I can support the store, and not just be the douche who doesn't do anything to support the store. Yeah, it's cheaper online, but I want to support my local community if I can.

On-topic, I buy at a FLGS. They appreciate my business, and thank me with free entry into their tournaments and a 15% discount on all GW products I buy. It's cheaper than GW's website (there are no actual GW stores within two hundred miles of where I live) and even a bit cheaper than Amazon most of the time (which is typically, after shipping, only about a 10% savings over GW's prices).

I don't shop at GW, though I do make the odd purchase from the local independent shop. GW is just too costly for me, I pick up most stuff 2nd hand either on eBay or through wargames shows. There's no other way of putting it, GW retail prices are too salty for me.

I mix and match. I do like to support my local store, and try to buy there, but at the same time I'm not pulling in much money right now (chose the wrong time to graduate...), so I do go for cheaper options as well.

Looking for fun articles on painting, tactics and wargaming? Are you after a new regular blog to follow? Are you a bit bored with nothing better to do?

If the answer to any of the above is 'well, I guess' you could probably do worse than read my blog! Regular wargaming posts, painting and discussions

My breakdown to day is about:

70% online discounters or ebay.
15% GW and Forgeworld. There are some things that you can only get from these sites unless you're willing to wait for them to happen to show up on Ebay.
15% FLGS. I don't play there, so I don't feel guilty about ordering online. I pop in for things like tactical squads, paint, or other convenient things. I have been placing orders through them lately to give them more business. But, I don't know them well and I don't play there.

Considering GW doesn't even offer the 10-sister pack anymore, I don't have any reason to shop there anymore. Hell even Forgeworld is often cheaper than Games Workshop.

I support my FLGS in every way possible. After 20+ years of shopping at the same place, I'm gauranteed a deep discount and no shipping delays.

I shop online for items the FLGS can't get and regularly buy from FW. There's almost no reason for me to ever buy from GW direct.

My FLGS sells <erased by the =][= > so I must buy online, leaving only GW's site available since it sends through FedEx, which doesn't goes through the custom's office... somehow.

i second that emotion, my local GW has a late night every thursday till 10 and puts stuff on on saturadays, there's a 40k in 40min tourny this weekend, certainly support the community.

of course this doesn't mean i don't buy second hand, but then again i enjoy making and painting along with the gaming so i can't really save that much anyway

I support my local GW 70% of the time. This is only due to the fact that I'm paranoid it might close (another one, a bit further out of town, already has because of lack of business). However, given this one's prime location, it will probably be fine.

I've ordered about 25% of my current models off of the GW online store.

The other 5% has been on amazon and this is only because I need to spend all of the Amazon Gift Vouchers that I tend to recieve at Christmas.

I buy most my models from ebay, and all my hobby stuff from the FLGS (paint, brushes, ect.). I like to support the FLGS because I appreciate what they do, but the reality is most of the time I cannot afford to do so.
I honestly feel like a charity case when I'm there sometimes, I use their stuff, but I doubt they are making much money off of me.

most of the time If i have the money to buy gw products I got to a games workshop, i have experimentaed with purchasing from cheaper online retailer in the past and had a bad experience something like,,, the thing you ordered is out of stock but we can make up the same product using multiple kits but it'll cost you a bit more,,, then i had a hard time getting them to accept a gift voucher a friend had bought me for their website and when it finaly arrived it was the big combo boxed set I ordered to begin with.... thank you for ripping me off Wayland Games.

other than that if I find a better product somewhere else ie the heavy clankers at www.maxmini.eu to be used as cybork bits i buy elsewhere. at gamesworkshop stores it costs more but there are people who know what they're talking about for advice and i like to support the gaming community!

I tend to go ebay as the FLGS as there distributor seems to screw them a lot. "well we ordered it xxx should be in next week" seems to be the rule. on the rare chance they have what I want I will get it there. also I buy all my hobby supplies locally when I need it I usually need it asap.

I buy from both, as I can get Citadel minis for 20% discount at my FLGS. But I like going into GW to catch up on info and have a chat, even if I'm a bit freaked out by the staff.

Why have 8 people, at time of this post, voted on ordering from GW as opposed to a cheaper option? With the exception of direct only bits, I don't see why you'd buy things at full price.

This thread is pointless, since just about anyone with an ounce of sense will order from a discount site. Never buy anything at full price unless you absolutely have to.

Er...

Because we're not all bargain-hunting elitists?

Some of us don't mind paying a few extra dollars as a "thank you" for excellent service and a place to game every week. I buy at my FLGS almost exclusively because they're friendly, I've become pretty good buddies with the 40k expert there, and I game there every week. I help out with their tournaments and "donate" my terrain for their use, and as thanks for my business, they give me 10-15% (depending on the size of the purchase) off any 40k stuff I buy there. But even if they didn't, I'd still probably buy there exclusively.

I've never bought a mini off eBay.

It's elitist to seek out bargains?

I've never bought a mini off eBay.

No, but it IS elitist to deride others for NOT doing it, and acting superior because you do it.

Apparently because I don't shop around for the best value on miniatures, I haven't so much as an ounce of sense, according to SRM.

Comments like "This thread is pointless, since just about anyone with an ounce of sense will order from a discount site." will do little to gain friends.

To answer, I just buy from Games Workshop. I like walking into the place and saying hello, rather than getting a package on my doorstep. Flgs's are fine too. Anywhere that I can get service with a smile

I don't mind spending a little extra cash, usually. I'm getting sick of paying 72$ on a troops choice though....

Seconded. Discount sites are one way of doing things, not THE way of doing things. After all, it's hard to have a conversation with people in-store if the store in question is made of pixels.
