We dont normally allow this sort of post in the News and Rumours forum, but since it is Dave Taylor, it is his amazing custodes army and it is for an extremely good cause, I thought I'd give it a bit of free promotion.

Here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250704639254&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_857wt_972

And here is the story:

I built this army in 2004 and have used it on a number of occasions at local tournaments. It's composition was designed to tap into a lot of the Adrian Smith art, rather than be a "killer list". It has attracted a lot of attention over the years, thanks chiefly to it's appearance in the GW US webzine Black Gobbo, as well as a feature article in the GW US White Dwarf issue #300 (January 2005, pages 156-161).

It has always had, and will continue to have, a special place in my heart. So, why am I selling it?

Recently two friends (and co-workers) suffered some very tragic occurrences in their lives.

One friend was body surfing and was dumped by a wave. He hit the bottom and broke his neck. Not only was he fortunate enough to not drown, but he was also not permanently paralyzed. He did, however, have to take a chopper ride to shock trauma where he underwent three emergency surgeries to save his life and future mobility. He is currently undergoing the early stages of his long rehabilitation process (and painting some Wood Elves as a dexterity building exercise). The real tragedy here is that he was "in-between" employer-supported insurance programs, and has some pretty big bills to pay.

My other friend was fortunate enough to be with his wife when she gave birth to their first child. Less than a week later, his wife passed away from a pregnancy-related complication that really could never have been spotted. It took the coroner two weeks to determine the cause. That's how obscure and hidden it was. My friend is now back at work and raising his son. As any of us with spouses and kids know, that is really tough - emotionally, physically, and financially.

I've had a lot of offers for this army over the years. Some of them I was sorely tempted by. But not until these recent occurrences has there been a real opportunity to do some good with it.

All of the proceeds for the sale of this army will go to these two deserving friends. Please, dig deep (or tell your wealthy friends to dig deeper) and let's see if we can't help out a little bit.

Dave is also a user here on dakka and has an amazing load of blood pact models in his gallery.

Wish I could pay for it. It's one hell of a good cause.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Which online store do you think could afford to drop :checks current auction price: $1725+ like that?
At GW markup, that's around $5000 or more in sales for most of them to make that kind of profit.

Better yet, talk Dave into adding a *Donate* PayPal link to his blog (if he hasn't already).

I'm sure if you contact Dave through either a PM here on Dakka or through his blog (davetaylorminiatures on blogspot) he can get you in contact with the appropriate people for smaller donations.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

Hi guys

Thanks to Legoburner for posting this. Obviously this is a great help in getting out the word and raising a lot for my friends, John and Justin.

Some of you have asked about smaller donations, well I've bugged the guys for their Paypal accounts and I have John's posted on my blog here:
http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com/2010/10/doing-right-thing.html

As soon as I get the address from Justin I'll put his up too.

Thanks again for your support, these guys truly appreciate it.

Cheers
Dave

Quite simply, The Man.

He used to work for GW in an official capacity and was responsible for some of the more amazing conversions in WD.

Not the least of which is the army he's selling on eBay right now!

Thanks for posting the paypal link, Dave! Would be awesome if Dakka members giving small amounts helped out, too, it's a great cause!

I actually met Dave Taylor when I was just getting back into 40k. Had a long chat with a guy with an accent who gave me all this advice about painting . Didn't find out who it was until afterwards!

Definitely, the man

Sold, at $3800!

Well worth it, it is one of my favorite "Dave Taylor" armies.

I have to laugh in that I considered trying to bid and win this army - that Chaplain is fantastic, those dreads, etc.

Still, glad to see so much money raised for a worthy cause!

Congrats Dave!

And congrats to the winner!

This army should be put in a glass case at Nottingham for display. It is one heck of an amazing army. Both the painting and conversions are way over the top.
