Latest Relic Knight 'Squall' is now available to buy............

Since abandoning the prestigious Doctrine institution, The Caetermane Academy, Squall has plied her skills across all sectors of Wild Space. None can say what awful deed forced her self-induced exile. In rare unguarded moments she can be found in the ships galley, drowning whatever demons haunt her. It is best to leave her alone with her thoughts, unless you are firmly grounded. In battle, Squall is as temperamental as the elements that she conjures. Great arcs of lightening tear holes in bulkheads, electronics are overloaded and fried from the inside-out and nothing but the charred remains of her enemies are left. Privateers and bounty hunters alike pay top credit for the benefits and destructive power that a fully trained Doctrine mage brings to bear. Squall is currently in the employ of the Star Nebula Corsairs, Calico Kate’s deep treasure vaults accommodating even the most expensive of mercenaries.

As soon as my UK supplier stocks it, I'll be buying one!

As much as it pains me, another face that I feel could have been done better and does not match the aesthetic of the rest of the miniature... at least from that angle.

Edit: Removed term that sparked derail on page 2.

Really? Seems like good paint could make that one work. At least it's symmetrical.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

They're for a game that is in development. So for now they're just generic minis.

Looked stupid to the point of PLEASE DON'T USE THIS WORD AS A NOUN WHEN ON DAKKA in the artwork...sad to say the mini itself upholds those low standards.

Anime can be translated into a 28-30mm sculpt and you dont need to go to japanese toys manufacturers because Sodapop chaps have done it better in the past IMO.
So whats the deal here? From my point of view the concept art is very good and the sculpt is also very good so whats not working? I think its one of those cases were a good 2d art concept is not necesseraly a competent/ good concept for such small miniatures.

There are obvious limitations of what you can cast and the concept artist even if very good doesnt seem to have a clue of those limitations... the poor sculptor was dealed with a impossible to cast concept and tried to make it as close as possible.

Thats my opinion... not a problem In the style and both concept artist and sculptor are top class... its just the unfortunate limits of casting and the sculptor trying to dodge the trap the concept artist layed out.

For those who can draw and sculpt its the reason this business is so cool... you have to think in the little things like casting etc every step of the way.

Good job nevertheless, not as brilliant as previous though.

Some people ask too much of a 28mm model IMO.

The actual model is about the height that one of her boots are in the picture. The face is tiny.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Exactly, thats why the concept artist does need to have a idea of those limits... I mean You can draw the craziest things but many are just not doable due to scale and casting... The concept art does need to take that into account because its a very specific project.
Ever wondered why spacemaries look so cool on concept art and so errr funny sculpt wise? But dont want to open that pandora box here.

They go all out for the Anime look, I wish they would just rip that off in the model faces too. (and I don't mean that as a slight) Everything else has the style of the concept art but their minis' faces.

Not that they are bad, just my opinion. Their sculpts are awesome.

Yeah, the face/head looks like it's too tall/narrow. Doesn't pull off the same look or expression as well as the art.

Personally, I likes it. I think a proper paint job will do wonders for the model though. Also think the angle they've took the picture doesn't work well.

Can't wait to get hold of it.

awesome! I can't wait to pick one of these up! I should do it right now!

And for those complaining that anime doesn't translate well into minis I would like to know if you have actually tried to paint a soda pop miniature?
I have to say they are some of those most challenging (in a good way) and fun minis I've ever painted.

I've had more fun painting SP Minis than I've ever had painting GW minis. Of course i'm one of those people that actually enjoying painting and playing around with colors and techniques. I think everyone should give it a try.
Yes I'm serious just paint for fun and not for a game once in a while, come on I know you can do it!
Go to your local game store or online store and browse all the different minis and pick out one that is not for a game (or a game you play) that inspires you or just looks like fun to paint. Buy it and take it home and paint it!

Nah personally this was the first soda pop mini i have seen.
My point was that this particular mini didn't seem to translate to "real features" that well
I know for a fact japanese figures look like they do in the anime.. but my point was that in the transition to "reality" the aesthetic of the animated style was lost.
I don't have a problem with the company. having looked their models are pretty nice! although the female figs are comically endowed, par for the course on anime sculpts i guess!
I guess what I meant to say is that in the transition it doesn't look cartoony faced like i would expect a japanese anime sculpt to be.
So untwist your knickers y'all!

Sorry about that my knickers were totally twisted there!

I will say there is a lot more detail in this face sculpt vs the other ones i've painted.
Now that you have brought it up i wonder how it will translate with paint on it.

I checked out the range and to be honest i thought they were pretty lame. The mini's have some cool detail but overall it seems like its anime porn for mini painters. my .02

I'm not seeing an issue with this either

I've painted 1 and am now on with my second. They do present a really interesting challenge to paint for those who like painting.

I couldn't really consider these minis to be anime porn for painters... They're certainly well endowed and often scantily clad, but there are plenty of readily available miniatures that are quite literally softcore porn

Didn't say anything was wrong with it by any means! I really love many of SodaPop's minis. One of these days I want to pick up the Egyptian cat lady, she's definitely my favorite so far, and I'm thoroughly enjoying my SDE set of heroes and look forward to picking up the Kobolds too!
