i want to hear of your funny stories that happend while playing.

my story is that, i was shooting my HB with metalstorm rounds into a horde of tyranids while my friend who is a assualt marine charged them, so i rolled to see if i had hit my friend on accident with the bolt round itself or the sharpnel. well i roll extremly well and kill about 45 tyranids and dont hit my friend. while my librarian friend who just arrived from drop podding in walks up next to me and aims at the horde, misses, and hits the assualt marine in the leg while he was grappling with a warrior. needless to say we ended the night on that and laughed about it till this day.

so come on dakka i want to hear ur funniest moment in deathwatch.

On my first mission in DW my team was fighting a horde of Tyranids. I had charged the center of the horde to get the biggest target distracted. The devastator in our team, shot at the horde while I was in line of fire, however he missed me and hit the enemies around. While the Librarian who arrived in a Drop Pod, came in took the point with the Devastator fired into the horde with one shot. And wounded me in the leg.

In my deathwatch team I'm a Space Wolf Librarian (Rune Priest) who's sole purpose has been to be very observant. I've passed every perception test, I notice every hidden thing, etc. However, I have done jack &$% other than say "Look" or "Listen".... I'm the power armor wearing version of Navi from the Legend of Zelda.

I too had some funny experiences during my first DW game last Saturday.

We were chasing an Eldar Ranger through a building and had finally cornered him in a room when a Warp Spider teleported into the room, grabbed the ranger and teleported out. My friend was playing a Space Wolf Assault Marine (so, he had a jump pack) and wanted to make a Extraordinary Senses check to see if he could smell where they had gone. The GM, rightly, told him that he would have to roll a critical success to discern even what direction they had teleported in.

He rolls a 3.

GM says "You feel like they are not far to the East." So I, in the room with him, throw a krak grenade at the wall, destroying it and he uses his jump pack to crash through a window of another building only to find some scared citizens blabering about seeing xenos. He makes another senses check to see where they went.

Rolls a 4.

"They're to the north now!" says the GM, so off he jumps again, only to fail another senses check and lose their trail.

It was great suspense, though.

I had to examine a corpse one time to see if I could find out any clues. Me being the bad roller at times like that, rolled, and got the result "Yeah it's dead alright."

'Critical Success'?

What is this, D&D?

Ha! I can hear her voice now. Don't be ashamed though, she is very helpful.

During my groups first session we were under attack by a hive tryrant, no one was hurting it, until the libranian shot it, he righteous furied the thing so hard that he got a crit and when he rolled to see what he did, turns out he blew off the things leg, he had one shot a hive tyrant.

Better to let them think you a fool, then open your mouth and proof them right.

Is that even possible?

Yes. If you roll consecutive maximum rolls for righteous fury you could one shot anything. But the chances are extremely slim of it happening. You'd have to roll a ton of tens in succession of each other unbroken.

Our Space Wolf managed to fail about 80% of his Awareness Tests today. He needed an 80 or less most of the time and had a re-roll. It was the worse batch of rolling I think I've sever seen.

That sounds horrible 80+ on all his rolls with rerolls.

Another good part was the last shot at the end of the whole day's play. We had been though this area stealthily moving through, picking off Traitor Guardsmen, then our Black Templar finally decided he'd had enough of this stealth gak and just charged into combat making heaps of noise.

This alerted a big Horde of Traitor Guardsmen and some horrifically mutated Stigmatus elite guys (look at the Jericho reach background for the Stigmatus - they're not a common rabble, that's for sure). The big brutes were packing Multi-Meltas, so my Libby popped a Force Dome up to give us all +8 Armour (so we've all got Armour 8/10, plus 4 from the dense trees everywhere, +8 for my Force Dome - we're a very tough bunch).

We hammer through the Horde in a few rounds (Heavy Bolters helped, as did the Metal Storm Bolter rounds on our Apothecary and my Smite), and we take care of one of the big mutants. The other one vanishes so we creep forward slowly doing lots of (horribly failed) Awareness Tests. Eventually we find him... and he's dead?

The Inquisitor pops onto our Vox Channel to casually let us know that some unrequested training targets have been released by accident. Two Genestealers moving through the under-brush.

I get lucky and score a 7 Degree of Success Awareness test, so we pinpoint their location (they're flanking us), and we concentrate on one of them. A straggler mutant with a Multi-Melta shows up, but I take care of him with Mr. Force Sword. Our Assault Marine one-shots the first 'Stealer after some shots softened it up.

The other one charges through into the Heavy Bolter. We all rush over to help out, but my attack and the Assault Marine's attacks are Dodged. It comes to the Heavy Bolter Marine's turn and he calls Bolter Assault (we'd all been in Squad Mode the entire time). This gives us all a shot with a Bolt Weapon (we're in combat already, so it has to be our pistols).

We never get a chance though because, going first, our Tactical Marine (unable to use his HB at this range), levels the pistol at the Stealer and rolls double 10's for damage. Auto-confirm Righteous Fury, plus another 5 damage, and the Genestealer (who has used both his Dodges for the turn) gets wasted.

We imagined it was like that scene in the Matrix where the Agent dodges everything, then gets ready to kill Neo only to hear 'Dodge this!' from his side and then BOOM, Trinity blows him away. Only this time it was a Marine doing that to a 'Stealer's head. It was a good way to finish the day.

South Texas

My friends and I have been running a game for a while, and the GM who's been waiting for a chance to run a "Space Hulk"-ish mission on us, finally sprang one on us.

Were up to 6 of us playing now a make our own chapter Tech Marine (we made up rules for Iron Hands cause we have a guy who plays 40k iron hands and had to be one.), a Smurf Tact Marine, a Blood Angel Assault Marine, a Storm Lord Apoth and Libby, and me the Emo Angel Dev.

So after a couple of hours we've managed to get through about half the hulk and we've pushed to an elevator while being harassed by genestealers, our Liby hits the button sending us down to where the hanger is supposed to be for our escape. And waiting for us is a Hive Tyrant and half a dozen 'stealers we didn't manage to kill in our trip. Now as the Emo Angel Devastatior I've been rolling like gak all game. nearly killed our assault marine, and almost blew the leg off our Liby. So after a quick talk with the team we agree this is my best chance to hurt the tyrant and not kill anyone else. So we roll and I get to go first. I sight up this Tyrant and roll a 1 to hit and then with half a dozen righteous fury procs I one shot the tyrant and the 'stealers break and run off. Which is pretty much a good thing as I was completely out of ammo at this point.

"There are no wolves on Fenris" Sindermann had said
"Except, of course... for the wolves, ser?" he had replied.
"Exactly, Kasper,"

rightoues fury is so win, bummer that it turns the heavy bolter into a single shot. but to be fair. it would be incredibly awesome if it was full auto. haha

Yup. The HT in the book has Toughness 53,with Unnattural Toughness 3 and Armor 10. You have to do a minimum of 21 points of damage with a Bolter to even do 1 point of damage. If you max out with 2 10's for damage, you're doing 5 damage to it. If you confirm for Rightous Fury, then you need to drop 11 straight 10's and then a 6 or better on the last die to instagib the Tyrant.

If you use hellfire rounds in a heavy bolter it changes the profile to s/-/- Blast(3). so yea i wish it was full auto with hellfire rounds.

In my group's most recent Deathwatch mission... we killed some mutant Tyranid called the "Stalker" and well... after we killed it. Our leader decided it should be made into a trophy. Needless to say, I removed it's claw/hand and carried it around. Once we got back to Home Base I guess. We were all issued corruption points, because no one objected to a Tyranid trophy being an act of Chaos.
