I know that not all Plague Marines are Death Guard but is the inverse true?

I want to do a small showcase Chaos force and I want normal marines in it... I know that normal marines can serve Nurgle (with Plague Marines being something they aspire to becoming) but by now are all the Death Guard members Plague Marines?

If so, I'll probably just make up some white-armoured renegades.

Pretty much.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

When I started painting my Deathguard pre-3rd edition, they were not described as Plague Marines. They embodied death and decay. So I thought 'Cool!' undead space marines and proceeded to paint my first squad as if their power armour had bleached out and that the marine inside was all dessicated and past the point of being rotten. Later the fluff made them all swollen with disease and stuff but I carried on, figuring the Deathguard would be so far gone at this stage they would only be bags of bones antway.
Besides I feel there is a more stoic nature to walking skeletons then shambling zombies. I'll post some photos soon.

All praise the Omnissiah!

I think it is a case of all Death Guard are Plague Marines but not all Plague Marines are Death Guard, same with World Eaters all being Bezerkers but not all Bezerkers being World Eaters, which I thought was kinda stupid in a way.

How can a frothing madman fire a Lascannon, anyhoo I digress ...

The only exceptions are Noise Marines, as not all of the Emperors Children are Noise Marines, and Rubric Marines, which are exclusive to the Thousand Sons.

Yes... a Marine Errant

I see your point though Naggoth, that as he has Death Guard Geneseed he will always be Death Guard, no matter if he removes himself from the Chapter or not.

Honestly I don't see how one could escape becoming a Plague Marine for this long in the Death Guard.

I think Harriticus was referring to the Death Guard who remained with the legion, and yes all of them are now Plauge Marines.

Yes all of the Death Guard who didn't bog off with Garro are plague marines. Garro left before the Death guard left on their fateful voyage to Terra which left their fleet decimated, legion decimated, and every member sworn to Nurgle-the destoryer hive drove them to submit to Nurgle and forsworn all they once stood for.-, their bodies been inflicted by the most corrupting disieses as a reward for their submisission and as a way of achieving this. Oh and big pussy stomachs aren't a necessary asset for a plague marine. They could look like starved hulks and still mkae you vomit up your liver at a thousand paces. =P

All DG are plague marines. There are also non-DG plague marines.
All World Eaters are berzerkers. There are also non-WE berzerkers.
Not all Emperor's Children are Noise Marines.
All Thousand Sons are Rubric marines, and no other source of Rubric marines exists.

No, obliterators are just corrupted tech marines. Not only Iron Warriors.

Not at all, though the first Obliterators did come from the Iron Warriors and they have the most. Modern Obliterators are any Chaos Marines who have contracted the so called Oliterator Virus.

the Lexicanum wrote:

Obliterators are rare and mysterious fighters who owe their allegiance to no particular Chaos God or Legion. Instead they form an insular cult obsessed with the pursuit of technological and alchemical knowledge and the fusion of flesh and steel. Its members, usually former Techmarines, have been infected with a contagion known as Obliterator Virus, which sears their flesh to their armour and grows them into massive behemoths with devastating powers.5

The virus has the effect to merge the carriers with the objects they hold, including weapons, and allows them to respawn them at will. They also have the ability to spawn ammunition for their weapons, a most disturbing experience for one unknowingly infected with the virus. Their skin is merged with the metals they have absorbed, making them extraordinarily robust.3 Though their bulky stature doesn't allow them to move quickly across the battlefield they are able to teleport almost anywhere with ease.5

In most Chaos Space Marine forces, only a few members are infected, and as such are much sought after. This is the opposite within the Iron Warriors Legion where the first Obliterators emerged.2 They have a special association with the Obliterator Cult and have vast numbers of them waiting to receive their orders.

IIRC though, Obliterator Cult was thought to have been started by them with the virus.

Ah, the eternal debate that rages between DG players such as myself (Ignore my avatar and rank. I see you looking. Ignore them. NOW) .

My personal view is that, yes every original member of the Death Guard is at the very least a Plague Marine (Obviously some have progressed to higher ranks such as Plague Terminators, Plague Lords etc). However, although the traditional belief is that not all Plague Marines are members of the 'Guard, I disagree. In the Plaguers bestiary entry in Codex: CSM, it states that any warrior who wishes to become a Plague Marine must first pledge service to the Legion and the Primarch Mortarion, thereby becoming a Death Guard in all but name. So, I would say that in fact all Plague Marines are also members of the Death Guard, even if it is just a loose association.

+1 on this, the most straightforward explanation.

As Wyrmalla said, all the marines who were on the voyage to assault Terra got stuck in the warp, and emerged as plague marines having made their pact with Nurgle.

All Rubric marines are Thousand Sons, but not all Thousand Sons are Rubic marines. All Thousand Sons sorcerers still have bodies of flesh.

Very few of the Legions replace their casualties...
They tend to get reinforcements from newly turned loyalists instead.

Well sure, but those are replacements nevertheless.

Or are you saying that those loyalists form warbands of their own rather than don the armour of the legion?

Loyalists form their own warbands...
The Legions look down on them as pretenders for some reason...
