Hey! Long time lurker but decided to join up so I guess this can also be my way of introducing myself aswell as making my first post worth something!

Here's something I've been working on for a while now - my Death Korps of Krieg. I do have a full army including 3 command squads, 4 infantry squads, 6 heavy weapon teams, 6 Death Riders, Commissars and armoured support including a Baneblade and Valkyrie. I've only managed to find the time to get roughly 30 or so of the actual figures totally finished but I thought I'd share them with you! Alongside them I do have a Valkyrie painted up in the same way so I'll post that too, along with numerous Forge World terrain pieces that I've done up for them. So yeah, enough of the chat and on to the pics! Happily take any constructive criticism and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.

I did try taking pics of the scenery but none of it came out too well so I'll find a better light source etc. and get those and the individual models posted up shortly. For the time being, you're just going to have to settle for a Valkyrie

Valkyrie

There you go! Hope you like it and like I said, I'd love to hear your thoughts and any criticism you have. Thanks!

Very cool dude, just a question, but is the mouth paint job on the valk a transfer that comes with it, or hand painted?

Thanks for the replies!

@ Commisar, nah it isn't. I had to do it freehand. I'm not totally pleased with it but it took a while as you can imagine so I can't really bring myself to try it again! At some point I'll see about doing the other side of the mouth too but after spending so long doing one side I really couldn't face doing another

Ok here's all the terrain pieces before I actually get to the Krieg troops. I promise I'll get those up soon! I'll just use their Forge World names, and I didn't make any of these so don't give me any credit for them. Same as before, constructive criticism most welcome! Like I said, they aren't meant to be a deep Ice World set of terrain pieces, merely an area that has seen fairly heavy snowfall which explains the lack of total deep snow coverage.

Thanks!

Awesome stuff...
I have always had a liking for snow terrain...
I also always wondered why they were called dragon's teeth... they don't grow skeletons and they don't look very pointy.

Ok here's the first of the actual Krieg troops. Two Commissars and the Field Marshall (As I've named him). The two Commissars are identical. I bought four - two in this pose with the sword out, and two with the swords being pulled from their sheaths but as of now I haven't started those ones yet. Anyways here you go. Any criticism welcome!

Commissars (Despite looking completely alike, there are two of them!)

That field marshal is the best model I have seen this month.

Unbelievable. Totally realistic. The 'snow powedered' look is absolutely flawless.

What are you calling this project? Given Kriegs history.. I would go with "Nuclear Winter"

Wow I love the muted colours you've used - what make? I'd guess at Vallejo Model Colour for that more WW2 colour rather than the shiny, fresh-out-the-factory typical sci-fi colours? I could be wrong though!

Really excellent weathering too on the Marshall.

Really nicely done and steaming of character!

I must ask, what's your recipe for the realistic looking snow (just in case I need to steal it )?

Thanks very much for the replies!

@ Cottonjaw: Can't believe I didn't think of that as a title, mind if I steal it?

@ NiallCampbell: Funnily enough it's all Citadel paints, I did investigate other brands to get more muted colours that would have suited them better but I did a test on an extra model they gave me and it turned out well with Citadel stuff so I just stuck with that.

@ Pharcae: Thanks! Believe it or not, it's just the bog standard out-of-the-tub Citadel Snow. I know you can make larger quantities by mixing it with PVA glue, and I know there's other places/brands that sell the same kind of stuff but it's just more convenient for me to get from GW since the hobby store is so close to where I live and the only other alternative is via the internet. I did have to do a couple of layers though. All the bases are fully done with bits from the Warhammer 40,000 Basing Kit and painted to an urban shade before I layered them with a liberal amount of the snow powder. After a day, the initial layer of snow (somehow) becomes more muted and looks more slushy than snowy. So I just put some more PVA ontop on parts, and apply more snow. Eventually it gives a really nice looking snow effect!

Definitely. That's why I put it out there. I think that would make a badass title for a full display board with these guys!

Awesome, love the really gritty urban snow feel to the guys.

I am doing an urban Sisters army and might try and give them some "grittyness" somehow ;-)

Hi again! Some more stuff to be put on show! The Field Marshall's Command Squad - a Vox Operator, Company Standard Bearer and 2 of his bodyguards. This is the main HQ choice for the Krieg army, as seen by the Forge World's Krieg range. They supply this one aswell as a lower Platoon Command Squad one.

Bodyguards

Company Standard Bearer (Standard Unfinished)

A little something extra that I've done for all my Krieg troops that have the basic helmet is to put on what's going to be their insignia. It's a very simple white and red square. I'm sure I saw it on some German unit from World War Two, or perhaps I'm mistaken. I'm sure I saw it somewhere though. Either way, I quite like it. It's also present on my tanks as well as the Valkyrie which you can see at the top of the thread.

Same as always, criticism/comments please!

Hey Oppl, glad you came out of the shadows.. very nice work! Thanks for sharing it! I'll be the first to admit a bias against guard (got creamed by them in earlier editions of the game) but I just love your Krieg troops. Wow!

Wow can't believe the response, I was actually afraid that my guys looked a bit too muted with their grey uniforms myself so I'm glad you guys think otherwise! It's a bit too late now to change their scheme!

I'll get some Lascannon guys up later for you to see

Some awesome job in here...

Despite the grey-ish, dull tones, you manage to make them stand out with all the details, and an fine execution!

The snowy / icy atmosphere is well-done too, especially on the Field Marshall, who seems covered in a small layer of frost... It's chilling!

Great colour choice, really effective look you've given them. Lots together is going to look brilliant as they all have the same kind of atmosphere about them.
