Are there any people who are in the public eye who are wargamers , regardless of games , i was wondering the other day as there are a few bands who do 40k themed songs so they probably take a casual interest.
So does anyone know anyone famous who plays?

The closest I've come is at my flgs, where we had a regular player who was also a GD winner.

Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith apparently started playing between takes for MiB. Jones quit after the film, but Smith's kids loved it so he kept at it. Not sure how old they are now.
Robin Williams was apparently a regular at his local GW for a couple of years and would crack the staff up doing sound effects and silly voices during games (note: Robin Williams doing this is cool and funny; if you are not Robin Williams, it's sad and pathetic, so don't try).
I met Bryan May at Games Day in 1997, and (considerably less famous but much more chatty) David Schneider in 2007.
And this is a lovely old piece of film about Hammer actor, Peter Cushing and his immense collection of miniatures:

John Hurt plays. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000457/ He talked about playing it with his kids in the ultramarines movie extras. Same with Terence Stamp he also has played it a couple of times after he did the ultramarines movie.

Edward Woodward died in 2009.
Deryck Guyler was a huge collector of 54mm flats, and a founder member of the Society of Ancients. He was also a virtuoso washboard player.
Harry Pearson, journalist, wrote an excellent book about wargaming -- Achtung! Schweinehunde
Peter Cushing, actor, died 1994
H G Wells, author, died 1946, wrote "Little Wars"
G K Chesterton, author, died 1936, was one of Wells's collaborators.

LMAO...if its true...how weird would it be to show up to a new D&D group and have Vin Diesel and The Rock sitting at the table...total "am I in the right place..." moment.
Which brings up the question...did they get any games in while filming the new Fast & Furious movie?

If we want some clar and concise proof like this blog post from one Gerard Wey which cites himself, Ray Toro (MCR Guitarist) and Patrick Stump (FOB Singer) as all playing.
EDIT: Gah! Dakka's edited the URL as it includes the S word. change the "gak" to that to make the link work.

Indeed he did. And you can download it here:
http://www.manybooks.net/titles/wellshgetext03ltwrs11.html
Whilst the rules themselves are bit involved, the introduction is one of the funniest bits of writing about wargames ever written and prove that the best miniatures wargamers have never taken themselves very seriously.

Vin Diesel interview: http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmTv/features/thechroniclesofriddick/vindiesel.asp
Q: Is it true you're really into Dungeons and Dragons?
VIN: No. I never play D&D. For some reason, they thought that I played D&D for 20 years. They thought that I spent years playing Barbarians, Witchunters, The Arcanum. They thought I played D&D back in the '70s when it's just the basic D&D set. They thought I continued to play D&D when it became Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. They thought I played D&D when there were only three books - the "Player's Handbook," the "Monster's Manual" and the "Dungeon Master's Guide." They thought I played D&D as it continued onto the Unearthed Arcanum, Oriental Adventures, Sea Adventures, Wilderness Adventures. THEY thought I played D&D at the time when "Deities and Demigods" was the brand new book. THEY thought I played D&D when I used to get up to a place called The Complete Strategist in New York.
[Mouths: "I'm into D&D a lot."]
