Thought GW is only hiring lawyers to concentrate on their main business (plus web designers to replace all those fired for posting pics early)
At least the only marketing job is offered by Black Library, not GW itself

BTW the German sales manager was also fired recently without any warning, but he got a replacement already.

Good luck You realise that if successful you are under Dakka oath to give us info on upcoming releases as soon as they reach the design stage

Hmm... A lot of leaks seem to come out of germany these days...

Out of interest Flashman, why did you say 'get them in quick', where does it give the deadlines?

I wonder what the turnover rate is for trainee sculptors? They seem to take them on every year, but is the design team really growing that much or do they train a group for 2 years then get rid of all but one?

It would be a way to keep staff costs low.

Lol, yes. Seems it's listed for pretty much all of them except the one I clicked on!

Nice to see FW taking on more writers.

They've got a freelance lady working on the IA books now haven't they?

The death of a thousand cuts for GW.

DOOOOOOM!!!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

That was during the move to Memphis and those positions have already been filled or eliminated completely (british term "made redundant"). The people let go were those that for whatever reason didn't relocate to Memphis. (aside from the elimination of the area/district managers - which was a reorganization thing.)

A young fellow I met in my local GW a few months ago is trying out. The selection process sure takes a long time. When I last saw him, his task was to re-imagine a current character. He was going to redo Kharn the Betrayer. I'd love to see what he comes up with as his Fabius Bile blew me away. Apparently another of the tasks is to design a figure while keeping the molding process in mind, such as the design of and how many separate pieces are required. Anyway, it all sounded interesting and way out of my league. Maybe this will give you a couple of ideas to try for the future.

Well I have just recieved the Job Description for "Trainee Miniatures Designer Vacancy. There is a lot of complex things the role involves.

And something about a 5 year plan.

4.3

Participate in activities to help deliver the design studio 5-year plan.

So they do know what they are doing (update for Miniatures wise a long time in advance) The job sounds interesting, even know I don't remember enquiring about it at all O_o

The recruiting manager will be looking for a good level of sculpting skill as well as the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of anatomy and proportion.

So why do my Cadians have massive heroic scale arms?

That was only the latest batch. There was a round of firings at US coporate a year or two before to cut costs, in which a bunch of the newest hires were all let go. (Newest still usually meant several years on the job.)

Silly Kroothawk!

We all know GW doesn't have a marketing department. They have a secrecy department though. It's tough to find out when they're offering jobs in that area though - they keep it pretty secret!

The Job description for Trainee Designer actually does state things along these lines!

4.5 Demonstrate knowledge of, and behaviours consistent with, the design studio non-disclosure
policy.

Secrecy is the best form of business it seems

Does this explain the rather lackluster paintjobs on later FW-models (Cadian extreme weather-dudes) etc?

I asked for a copy of the trainee sculptor job description as well out of curiosity. In the email it was phrased 'send in application asap' etc. So presumalby that one closes soon as well.

Hmm... demonstrate a knowledge of nda... "If I leak info I lose my job and can't pay bills"?? Pretty much sums it up.

Well I just applied for the Forgeworld Writer/Designer thanks to this thread

I've never seen so many jobs advertised. They've been looking for a trainee miniatures designer for an age it seems If only they sculpted with playdo I might have a chance at that

I've tried getting jobs there in the past but the competition must be fierce (let's face it who wouldn't want to work there?). I've even got an actual letter of rejection instead of just an email

The only stuff I had that was fitting (i.e not crazy like Rebel Grots or my complex House Rule set) was pretty old but well presented. I hope it will show at least some correlation between background, rules & army lists (if that's what they look for?) with a garnish of fiction. TBH I think writing something like a FW book would be an immense task.

We'll see, if I get past the email rejection & get another letter I'll be happy enough
