Gear Krieg goes 28mm!

Gears and Guts is a joined venture of Brent Dietrich of Company B and John Cunningham. They have acquired a license from DP9 to produce 1/56 models of the classic 15mm Gear Krieg models by DP9.
Very much in the way I have the license to produce World at War books based on the original Gear Krieg books.
Brent and John approached me a couple of months ago for additional input on the project. Very soon after that we received even more in depth support by John Bell (aka Jakar Nilson) the guy behind the great GK “Alfies Tenners” comics.
Soon ideas were flying around via the interweb and the first walkers were taken shape. We agreed that I would paint the walkers.

The General Early walkers shown are a pre-production prototypes with some weapons still missing. The Artizan Greatcoat troopers (painted by Tom Weiss) are shown for scale comparison. The final models will have even more details and a full complimenting set of decals included. Jakar is even working on vehicle dashboard layouts!

The above picture shows how well the spirit of the 15mm models is captured! Release dates and future plans are noted on Brents website under the Gears and Guts subsection.

In hindsight, looks like I'll be starting up another game in the not-so distant future. As long as it is 28mm and has weird science stuff, count me in.

Ooohhh... I've been eyeing off Gear Krieg minis for years, and the only thing stopping me from picking up a few just for giggles was the scale.

There's definitely going to be a few of these in my future.

Oh, and nice job

Those minatures (the great coats) have been available since 2006 from Artizan:

From what I can tell they're just sculpting new Gear Krieg mechs in 28mm, and like the 15mm Gear Krieg, they just use scale-appropriate historicals. There's plenty of WW2 plastics on the way these days from Bolt Action/Warlord and so on though.

The kits will be high quality resin casted by JTFM. Expect the best.
Some weapons (.30cal, .50cal will be metal)

The DP9 15mm ones are metal casts, only the hull of the newer Uller walkers is resin.

Yup, the walkers are new, the Artizan metal Greatcoat trooper are just there for scale comparison.

After FW anything is better.

In all seriousness I can't wait. Will these releases be digital only or will there also be physical books?

Are the walkers transformers or do you have to build them standing or as a tank?

and how do they compare in size to 40K models, like an IG sentinel?

Those infantry they have around them are about 25-28mm tall, and about the same height as a Guardsman.

They transform between tank mode and walker mode. Really looking forward to 28mm Krieg Gear use as is for IG or add some armor and random guns and use as Orks. Bring it on.

The Gear Krieg book can be bought in print from me if you are in Europe,
see: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/order.html

or DP 9 if you are in the US.
All other books from the World at War Gear Krieg line are digital only.

One of the key features of Gear Krieg walkers are their ability to switch movement modes.
The rules cover these different modes.
While in walker mode the Gear can enter difficult terrain more easily.
Walkers are also able to perform special close range attacks. All walkers carried customized Anti-Tank Explosives - packs of demolition charges, very short range grenades or mines. These were usually spring or compressed-gas launched, though by the time walkers sported arms they could also be manually thrown.
While using the Walker movement system these may be placed on other vehicles with a Charge Action.
While using the movement mode the Gear are faster.
It is a very unique aspect that opens nice tactical possibilities...

The model kits will include both set of legs, so if you are really into it you can magnetize the legs and actually switch them during games...

These are really cool. If the price is good, I might pick one up for the fun of it. As to the greatcoat troopers, I can attest to their quality. I ordered from Artizan a couple of years ago, and everything was good. The figures are great, and the service is also good.

Hi,
The Gear Krieg Combat Walkers will mix well with DUST and other WW2 mechs and figures out there. I have an picture of some prototypes (this is an internet driven project between guys in the US, Canada and Germany, so each of us may not always all have the latest and greatest models -- but whatever you see posted on the Company B website will be the most up to date -- http://www.companyb.biz/).

Here's an image of the final master for the General Early:

Here's some images of prototypes, one next to a DUST Jagdluther, and one with some weapons accessories. The General Early walker can use any Stuart tank turret, there will also be a version with a Quad .50cal HGM A turret. We will also have crew, detail kits and decals available.

$37 is the estimated price. I want to start high, rather than lowball and have to back track later. I'm hoping we can get the price a little lower, but that price does include both sets of legs, extra weapons, etc, etc.

The kits are a combination of resin and metal. The Early includes both travel and walking legs, as well as two sets of extended and folded arms, the hull top plate, turret, weapons hard-points, and several side weapon options.
Quite a lot actually for a small run kit!

Once I am able to start stocking all the parts and boxing the kits, we'll have a more formal pricing announcement.

It sounds reasonable to me for the parts and options given. But that's my opinion.

If you're good with magnets, would it be possible to switch between standing and the undeployed legs? I'm very interested, and $37 is very reasonable for big walkers like that.
