Ok, so we know that the IG have something similar to the Panzerfaust, I mean that's what the Tanith's tread fethers seemed to me. So, here is my proposed profile for a panzerfaust style weapon.

Mini-krakker
S: 8
AP: 3
Range: 18"
Assault 1, One Shot Only

Special Rules
Close Range: The mini-krakker is fired at close range, so close that the firer can aim at vulnerable areas on an enemy vehicle that he couldn't with normal heavy weapons. When rolling on the vehicle damage table, the firer may choose to reroll, but must accept the reroll no matter what.

This weapon is available to all members of Infantry, Veteran, Company Command and Platoon Command squads for 5 points. It does not take up any special weapons slot, nor replace any wargear.

Meh, You can already get one of these with unlimited range in the form of a HK missile. I'd still just take a meltagun on the special weapon boys.

I agree that I'd rather spend the extra points for a melta gun. Maybe instead one man in each squad is allowed to take one along with his normal equipment so you dont waste special weapon space?

Maybe let a squad be an anti-tank squad for +5 pts. per model, five models each get one of these in addition to their normal lasgun, and another 2 can take either special weapons or demo charges.

This weapon is available to anyone who can take a special weapon at a cost of 5 points.

The "Tread Fether" is a standard missile launcher. It's constantly mentioned that one guy carries the missiles, the other carries the launcher.

Actually it was adjusted from this quote:

"The one with the rifle shoots! The one without follows him! When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle AND SHOOTS! "

I'll be shocked and sorely disappointed if no one knows where its from.

Enemy at the Gates wasn't that good or accurate of a movie.

Either way, my point remains the same.

Reread the wargear lists for Heavy Weapons Squads.

They do, in fact, have Lasguns.

That idea seems to work. Makes it a viable option.

And Kan, yeah I know. But that's nitpicking.

I'm just confused as to why you're calling this the "Tread Fether" when the "Tread Fether" is just a name given by the Tanith to a standard missile launcher.

I mean it would be like if I were to have a Guard Regiment that called Heavy Stubbers "Melon Gitters" and gave the Melon Gitters an entirely unique statline.

I would change it a bit, have it be an upgrade for veterans
30 points; Tank Destroyers
Unit has the "tank hunter" special rule with their heavy weapon (unit must include 1 heavy weapon), and can use special 'Panzerfaust' launchers for their krak grenades on all remaining models, with s6 ap4 range 18 heavy 1 one shot.

Eh, I know the fluff description, but even though 'tread fether' is described as a two man team my mental image was always that they were a panzerfaust style name.

Besides, tread fethers sounds cool

Tread Fethers sound cool, but again they're not a different weapon. It's a colloquial name, not a proper piece of equipment. It's not carried around so people can randomly pull a rocket out of their pocket and kill tanks. It's carried by dedicated heavy weapon teams.

It all just seems so unnecessary just so you can use the name "Tread Fether". Just call your rocket teams "Tread Fethers", because that's what the Tanith do.

Ehh the kicker though is that vets with heavy weapons generally are less effective than vets without. In fact moving a full 6" and using a melta gun is much more effective than standing still with one of those launchers since they both have the same range now

Well, I've always wanted a Panzerfaust style weapon, and tread fether seemed to fit. And besides, a rocket carried around so random infantryman can pop tanks is exactly what a Panzerfaust is.

But if your only problem with this thing is the name than I'm more than happy to change that at some point.

I'm aware of what a Panzerfaust is. I'm also aware that the 'tread fether' is more of a Panzerschrek, rather than the Panzerfaust.

I'd say if you want somewhere to go for a little one shot dealy--look at the Elysians and their one-shot auxiliary grenade launchers(which come with a single Krak Grenade).
The Panzerfaust is more like that idea: a disposable launcher with a single shot, not a reusable launcher which can be reloaded constantly.

I did consider that, but I wanted something with a bit more punch that just a krak grenade. That's why I made sure I gave the weapon 'One Shot Only'.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to the weapon by itself.

I'm just opposed to calling it a Tread Fether or saying it's 'inspired' by that weapon, which is just a simple rocket launcher with a new name.

Just call it a Light Anti-Tank Weapon or something like that.

But I've changed the name. Happy now Kan?

but the rules are pretty generic when it comes to weapons. and the melta has pretty much the right effect, and theres the added bonus of not needing to bend or break any rules.

I believe it is from the battle for Stalingrad during World War 2.

The last time i heard it was when playing an older Call of Duty game...

Back on topic...

Yeah, looks good, but i would pick a meltagun over it any day.
