I have a cat and had a rental goat (not anymore thx to finnish politicians ) and sometimes pets and minis just don't work too well together. For example my cat likes push paint bottles off my table and have that "oops" -look. My cat also likes to sleep on my desk and sometimes when he yawns he streches his arms so that something falls off the desk .One time it was an open box of sand.

Do you have cats, dogs or goats? Please share your experiences.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Yeah, what the hell is a rental goat? That can't be like rental car! I mean first question is can you just rent a goat? Second question is obviously, why would you rent a goat? Do Finns just go around renting pets?

Sorry Bosko, can't afford rent on you this month, lets go return you to the shop!?

I am always careful to keep my dog away from my miniatures, and nothing terrible has happened because of him.
I, like the others, would really like to learn more about what a rental goat is. Please, enlighten us to the ways of the Finnish.

I'm also quite curious about this rental goat? What do you use it for? And more importantly, where do I get one?!
My cat once pushed an open pot of paint of the table and onto my lap..... I had fallen asleep in the chair since I was up modelling until about 3 AM....

One of my past cats(been gone a long time now)used to think it was the greatest thing in the world to get up on my table and walk about demanding attention. And most of the time he was not wanting food! Then he would sit on my lap purring contentedly and flexing his claws into my legs. I'm told this is a sign of affection...

My cat (a socially irresponsible black-and-white monstrosity by the name of Badger) succeeded in sweeping a number of freshly assembled models off my painting table, immediately followed by my laptop (I can only blame myslef, leaving an open laptop on the edge of a tabel was not smart). This experience was neither good for my laptop, nor the daemon prince and bloodcrushers that happened to break its fall.

Cats are dangerous. I keep all my finished minis in my display cabinets, my works in progress in my wall curios.

One night one of my cats got onto the shelf above my desk (before I had disp cabinets) managed to walk past my 28mm Battletech mechs, over to my book shelf, and knock over my 1/48 scale Ultimate Gunstar (from The Last Starfighter movie) model. The impact with the floor essentially disassembled it. Also broke a few things. I wasnt home. Wife githered up the pieces. I havent been able to bring myself to work on it. It had been a multi year WIP.

RENTAL GOAT:

Before uor family could have I a full time pet my sister happened to bump into a site which allowed you to rent baby goats for 60 euros (with 50 euro insuarance fee) and because my dad always has crazy ideas he desided to rent a goat for a summer.

We have a fairly big yard so the goat can roam around but usually stick with people as goats are very social animal (they go baa if they are left alone)

Indoors we used diapers with the goat because they poop all the time everywhere. We had one of our showeres dedicated to goats sleeping area (easier to clean up).

We did this for few summers (and xmus) until some dick desided that goats must be owed in herds (meaning you had to have 2+ goats) and we simply couldn't handle 2 goats.

Here's where we rented goats from

http://www.ukkolanvuohitila.com/vuohet.html

The first big pic is the rentable goats (so you couldn't rent those really cute ones)

EDIT: And no this is not common in Finland. We ain't that crazy.

So you would just rent a goat for the summer and Xmas? What happens to the goat when you don't rent it anymore? Wouldn't you get attached to the goat and want to just have it all the time, or not at all? I couldn't imagine renting my dog and then giving it back. Sounds really weird.

There always seems to be cat hair on my mini's while im painting other than that I have no problems. I leave my mini's/painting supplies out all the time and my cats don't mess with them.

I want to hear more about the rental pet business.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Renting pets is practiced in Japan too. People rent dogs and cats most commonly. Also, there is a cafe that has two goats beside my office in Shibuya. Those buggers are super cute, and the Japanese chicks love them when the cafe staff takes their goats for walks. Goats = girl bait.

So rental pets are exactly as we thought they were? That's funny, it just seems so strange to rent a pet, which you will likely get attached to, and then give then up shortly after.

One of my cats couldn't care less about my minis, but the other one is obsessed with them, probably because he sees how much time I spend on them. Before I got a realm of battle table I mainly played floorhammer and he would get involved to the point that catzilla attacks became a house rule. He also jumps up on my lap when I'm painting and tries to nuzzle or paw my brush. He also invented a game I call astartes skittles, which he plays with my aobr marines.

Yes, gamercat ftw.

My puppies have attempted to eat a bottle of vallejo flourescent green. the poked a hole in it- an the paint marked the guilty puppy!

The next one the grabbed was my Devlan mud. they popped the lid open and spilled some on my rug.

And, they LOVE to chew silicone and have gotten a couple of my small molds.

My painting area is now protected by a halloween skull- one of the ones that has a motion sensor- its loudly says "Hey!!" and "I see you!!!" and it totally freaks out my dogs.

They will rent anything in Japan, I've heard of rich executives renting white people for business meetings!

When I left the room while painting, my cat jumped on the work table to drink some water out of the cup I clean my brushes with.

As I walked back to the room, I saw a little black spot on the floor spaced out every foot or so. It got darker as I got close to the room. I then discovered that while drinking from the water cup, he stepped in my paint wet-pallet with one paw. He left a trail from the front room to the kitchen...

While my dog (springer) has not been able to get upstairs to have a go at my minis, my cat did something very strange.

I had a fully painted up Sicarius sitting on top of my desk, I left to go to work, i came back and it was gone. asked parents if they had moved it, they hadn't even went in my room. I searched around furiously for it to no avail. as i was going out to work the next morning, i almost stepped on it going out the door. it was outside on the step. standing up. not a scratch on it.

How'd i know it was the cat? because my webcam was running at the time and I found the vid when cleaning out my hard drive.she walked in, had a sniff, picked it up and legged it. gave a whole new meaning to the term "cat burglar".

I hide my Mini is a pantry. 100% Cat free. I don't get how someone can leave their $75 tank out for the cat or dog to have more than a peek. If you want to paint, can't you find a place where your pet isn't or block it off from your pet. Even go to a local Independent shop or if you want to a GW.

On this topic, I never leave my exacto knife (hobby knife) out unattended. Not even if I only leave the room for a second. It goes into a drawer on a high shelf. If you have small kids or pets, that's a good practice to follow.

My cats tend to knock stuff off of shelves, but one of my dogs has chewed off the weapons from my Storm Raven. Cost me a decent amount to replace the weapons.

As for renting goats, it can be a good idea. If you have a large fenced area, goats will clean the fence line in a matter of days. Also goats can clean under bruch from a field in a few weeks if you have the right number.

The two eldest cats don't mess with the mini's although the younger of the two has decided to take a nap on my paint and thus end my painting for the evening. The youngest on the other hand thinks they're her toys and will run off with them. I still haven't found poor Gerald the dwarf, but he'll have some tales to tell over a campfire and a pint when he returns. I think she had something against that dwarf, she's never run off with any others. Granted, being allergic to them means its rare any of the cats go into my study but still.
