Thats is a long time i think about plastic Angels, and how they could look nice, so i submited this ideia to Wargames Factory Liberty and Union:
http://www.wargamesfactory.com/BookingRetrieve.aspx?ID=119363

For those who dont know it: wargames factory give us a space, where we can show our ideias for plastic sets of miniatures (28mm). There they "pre-order" the ideia, and if they have 500 sprues pre-ordered, they produce it.

For those who know: i like the ideia of an army of flying angels, so i submited this ideia to them, they accepted. If you liked it, please pre-order, maybe we can boot have a dream coming true. If you dont like angels, think about the cheap plastic wings that will come with them .

I posted this in news because a lot of people dont know about this nice initiative, and my ideia have finally been accepted (that is the news ). If the MODs think it should be in another part of the forum, well, you are free to realocate the thread...

Cya guys...

That's an interesting business model! I think though, that it really, really needs concept art at the least, with greens too if possible to really work. I would never order or endorse anything that is artistic or visual product with only a written write up...

Still, that is something that can be added in to their functionality and site scope, and is really more on their end than yours. It is a good idea that you had for sure! Do you have any sketches or anything to post up here?

While I love the idea of a female angels & paladins army and have proposed armoured angel kits on the AoW and Mantic forums, Wargames Factory is not a company I trust to produce them to a standard of quality I am willing to buy.

Major, the "pre-order" they ask is not a real pre-order, but an "advice of interest", you dont even pay nothing

When they reach certain degree of interest, they start to work that out, and show it. In that time, they will ask oppinions in the foruns, design sketches and actually show "greens".When the final product come out, they will ask you again if you want to buy, and them you pay, and such...

I wouldn't count this as a news or a rumor until there were close to 1000 "pre-orders" because L&U submissions are dime a dozen.

Take heart, The WGF Greatcoat Shock Troops were my submission, they've become fairly popular, though didn't turn out 100% like I'd hoped they fit the bill enough for the price (especially since I got mine super cheap from WGF and I've got 7 boxes still yet to assemble), so it's entirely possible to get your ideas into production, though it does take them a looooooooong while. I submitted the greatcoat infantry I think in march 2009, I got my first boxes in June 2010.

Wow, was it really only a little over a year? It felt way longer.

29 January 2009 is when the first discussion on this went up on the Wargames Factory forum (just looked). I think there were several submissions that were similar and they got combined into one project.

The WGF greatcoat infantry were my greatest anticipation/hope and greatest disappointment. They did not turn out well at all in my opinion. WGF could use some more artists.

The sculptor has been replaced but the same odd behaviour is still there. They have box art up for their expansion set of heavy weapons but aside from a single render which people complained about there have been no more updates.

Yeah I've just been checking out their site this morning - I'm tempted by their skeletons tbh but anyway...

I like them as a company - accepting ideas/submissions from people is a really neat idea - imagine if GW had a similar process, we might get those Thunderwolf Cavalry and Tervigon kits they stupidly didn't make

I know their sculpting quality is routinely bashed by people but then I think people expect too much from these smaller companies in general - as it is I don't think a year+ is that bad a time to go from a couple of paragraphs, to design, to sculpting, to tooling, to shipping - they're clearly still learning with every new kit. I agree if they can attract some more experienced sculptors they could produce better models, perhaps at a faster rate - but for the price I don't think they're that bad at all.

@OP - if your Angels were Space Angels in Powered Armour they might stand a better chance

Count me in anyway - plastic angels? Why not? Thanks for pointing out this to me, I hadn't really noticed it before - I notice they have Female Zombies and Power Armoured Humans (Starship Trooper style) at 100% - as well as Mutants at 65%...I need some for Lost and the Damned - EVERYBODY VOTE MUTANTS!

I supported the suggestion for 6mm andriods, it reached the needed support number at which point they asked for us supporters to put a deposit on what we wanted so I put around $10 down. Again it reached the support level but they decide to up the level by another 500, that was over two years ago and I have heard nothing about them since...

Now I know that $10 isn't a lot, but if everyone who wanted them paid around that it soon mounts up. I also know the company had troubles with a split in management. The new owners offered to pay back what people had put down if they contacted them with their details, I did this and have still heard nothing...

People beware...

The title is misleading. The submission wasn't accepted, they just posted the idea. They accept it when 500 sprues are in demand, currently only 1% or about 5 sprues are "preordered", not worth mentioning.

Edit: Okay, reading the above post, they might not accept it even with 500 sprues in demand.

I really loved the Liberty and Union idea (while you're there vote for cultists and sewer mutants!) but I'm not sure it is continuing under the new owners.

in fact I don't think the new owners have produced any new sets yet (the GC heavy weapons will be their first) so don't get your hope up too high.

IIRC before all the drama this winter WGF had at least 3 kits with over 1000 'pre orders' (really just expressions of interest). Armed civilians, realisitic power armor and modular space ships (I think Samurai too) and had not done any work on them that we saw.

Generally we found that niche ideas like werewolfs and angels did not get far, you needed and idea with mass appeal AND that people need a lot of. So they did Sci Fi grunts, Orcs, Skeletons, Romans, Persians etc.

And even then it was possible to miss. WGF did a War of Spanish Succession set that people said the wanted but it didn't sell at all.

And to Dwarf Wolf take a look at Ex Illis, they already do several plastic angels.

The lack of concept art keeps me from joining in. I like to know what it is I'm going to be paying for before I spend what little I have of my gaming budget.

You aren't paying for anything, you're basically just saying that if these things do go on order you will probably buy them. The Liberty and Union League is user submitted ideas, usually without any art to work from. You will see art and models before they actually go on sale.

Yea I gave up on the LauL. Its a nice concept but its really only viable for metal models (Eureka Miniatures has a similar system but for metal)

I mean look, from on top of my head we have: Samurais, Ashigaru, Greatcoat Heavy Weapons, Power Armor, Armed Civilians, Female Zombies, WW2 Germans, Old and Middle Guard, and the controversial 6mm androids that all got to 100% months/years ago. And they're still not produced.

Ooh boy I remember why I didnt frequent those forums too much

Ex Illis angels though are all male I think

How is WGF's shipping times? I heard they took forever so did not order any greatcoats even though i wanted too.

It took quite a while, I haven't ordered anything recently but they were about a year ago having some severe issues internally which seem to have been resolved (one way or the other) that has improved shipping times.

I ordered some of the orcs and greatcoats, as well as some of the new bases, about a month ago. I received the package within the week- very fast. From my experience, as well as some others I know, the shipping problems seem to have been rectified.

The orcs are really quite nice, they're perfect for Lord of the Rings. Not enough shields though- and I 'm not a fan of separate weapons ("Playmobile Hand") but still a very nice set for the price and I'm glad I checked them out. I'd be surprised if they could do a good job with angels though- proportions are pretty important on 'perfect beings' and one thing WF needs to improve A LOT on is proportion.

I'm not a WGF fanboi however I must point out that GW take a year to get a set of new models from initial concepts to on sale. It's probably about the amount of time it takes to do, if you do it right.

The main thing about being bigger like GW is that you can get a larger new range out at one go.

Look at Deldar for an example of the principle in action.

I ordered two boxes of the Zombies. I got 12 extra zombies when i ordered and it took about two weeks to ship. THere was some flash on the kits but i have to say that GW models are not all that much better. Look to finecast if you choose to dispute this

Yes the shipping problem has been fixed long time ago, though I always buy my stuff from warstore so it usually always comes in quickly as long as I dont pre order (its a bit hazardous to pre order anything miniature wise aside from maybe gw)

Because resin=plastic right? Comparing plastic GW to plastic WF is a better contest. Almost always GW will have the better kit. To be fair I suppose, you do pay somewhere around x2-x3 times less though than GW figs

I reckon a good selection of well done angels would make an awesome army. However it would be a minority interest.

Those Ex Illith angels look fething terrible, IMO, like lumpen gladiators with wings stuck on the back.
