So, I got around to watching this film the other day. Yup. Pretty damn terrible. I wouldnt call myself a huge fan of the lantern, but I know some stuff about them, and the idea of them always seemed pretty cool. But WOW, that movie is ass caught on camera. Theres just so much......awful in it, I honestly dont think any of it made me enjoy watching a movie.
The whole entire plot was ass, I hated right off the bat, how they were pushing him to be such a conflicted character, and I mean HARD! And suddenly for no reason, he flips out and panics from a memory.....that was odd. I couldnt stand the love interest thing that was going on, it seemed so.....again pushed? The nerdy guy, what the hell was all that? I couldnt think of the villain he was suppose to portray....but it looked weird and he acted really weird. I also REALLY hated the off the wall gak he would will up, SPECIALLY the hotwheel part with the helicopter
And worst of all, I didnt like how that big ass group of the lanterns got ass raped by the super bad guy, and in slumdog millionaire style, he rises from feeling horrible about himself and being a general loser, suddenly to become the super hero at the last minute and pull off a win. Worst yet about the whole ending, was when he was being trained by the big brute fella, and he added that weird little suns gravity part in there, I just KNEW "Well I dunno if hes going to win with that little tid bit, but itll be a big factor in winning anyways" And I was right. I feel like I, wrote the script. I say that because Im not a writer, Ive never really wrote anything even close to a script, and it would show if I wrote fiction. Thats how it felt, like some one that never EVER writes, wrote it, it was very bland and very transparent.
Am I alone here? Or did everyone else pretty much think this was a steamer of a movie? I almost want to say it wasnt worth the DVD they printed it on
Had the same thing. Why would someone mention something about the sun's gravity and say: 'the bigger they are, the faster they burn' ---> looks at the meanie who's the size of a little planet.
Exactly my point! I simply HATE IT!!!!!! when writers do that kindda gak. If you want it out there, make it a bit subtle, so I dont catch right the feth on and know how the movie ends and ruin it in about 20 mins. GAH!

indeed, in my thoughts all i could think after it was, when are they gonna throw him in?
(And the strange fact, that his trainer could create a sun out of nothing but willpower, but an entire korps of them. can do exactly nothing in their battle against the meanie.)
And i would like some more subtility too. Remember 'Fight club'? Now that ending was a shocker for sure. And when i watched the movie again with the plotline in my head, it just opened a new dimension to the movie. They should make more stuff like that.

I hate Ryan Reynolds.

I have dodged this movie intentionally, because I knew that I would have a similar reaction to KC's.
Also, and I'm not trying to start a debate on the subject, but other than Batman and The Sandman I'm afraid DC comics, in general, just don't do it for me.

Actually, he looks no weirder than Hector Hammond looks in the actual comics:

I think DC made more then just a handfull of good characters but yea, I think Marvel has them beat, Ill agree with that one.

Ahh thats not the bad guy I was thinking of then, again, wasnt a huge fan of the comic book, so I dont feel bad that I missed who he was
Sillyboy - Yes, FightClub was a fantastic movie, the movie totally got me. I wouldnt of guessed that in a million years. The problem with stories being that secretive, is its REALLY hard to pull them off, normally, we've seen this movie 100 times before, so its easy to figure it out, but not that one. Pretty original
Hector Hammond was a pretty lousy choice of a villain to use as an introduction to the Green Lantern universe and w/o having seen it I can tell you they totally screwed up Parallax as well.
I don't find Marvel to have a better ration of good to stupid characters than DC; they are on par with each other.

I saw that RR was going to be in it and gave the movie a wide berth.
He was gak in Wolverine.
He was gak in Blade III.
He wasn't even funny in "two guys, a girl, and a pizza place".
Ryan Reynold gaks me to tears, he does. He hasn't been good in anything he's been in.

I did not like the movie. I think it was the CGI and how they messed up so many of the stories. They really should have just focused on Sinestro and his betrayal.
But, as far as the things he made with the ring? They are pretty on par with the comic. What the ring makes comes from his imagination and his personality. Really, just having gotten the ring. In the comic he would not have been able to pull off such intricate things so quickly.
I haven't seen it yet, so its a little lame to post here but whatever. I know a die-hard GL fan who thought it was awesome, true to the book and a good show. I have another friend who took his boy to it, expecting it to be gak, and found it to be pretty good. Everyone else in the world says its total crap however, so I've yet to see it even though I'm a hardcore comic fan. I figure my expectations are so low, it probably will be ok.
I havent got around to seeing the movie yet because frankly i was afraid it was going to suck arse, like KC said in the op. The main problem though i find with superhero movies is that they can be very hard to understand unless you already know where they are coming from. Im a huge comic book nerd and GL has been one of my favourites since i was a wee tacker so i know and understand the whole Parallax and Sinestro business as well as all the rest of it, whereas someone who might not would be down right confused if they even fail to explain one of minor points propery. Which is the major problem with a lot, if not most superhero movies.
IMO if they want to do a superhero movie good and proper they should either...
a) Get the writer of the specific superhero series to write the script and then not change a single word and bollocks it up, like hollywood execs are so prone to doing
or
b) Get some die hard comicbook nerd to write the script and then not change a single word and bollocks it up, like hollywood execs are so prone to doing.
Decent actors would also probably help... i.e Dont choose Ryan Reynolds when you could have picked Nathen Fillion.
As far as which is better DC or Marvel... Vertigo has em both beat. You cant go past the likes of Transmetropolitan or Preacher.

Even-though I don't read comics Judge Dredd has to be one of my favourite comic characters at least as a concept. Although I think batman is on par with him in terms of coolness.

Oh yeah Dredd is awesome. Have you ever read the Judge Dredd Vs Alien comic? or Dredd vs Batman? Both were brilliant. As for the JD movie, im no Stallone fan but i really liked that movie even if it were alicious.

Yeah, I'm excited about it, although I could see myself liking the Stallone movie in a guilty pleasure sort of way haven't seen it yet but want to. I only follow movie and TV show batman.

I could see this being a guilty pleasure quite easy. But you best look damn guilty if anyone ever catches you watching it! Damn guilty...
I heard the Blu-Ray makes the bad CGI look even worse.
