A school administrator in Florida called the sheriff after a pair of consenting 12-year-olds shared a kiss on the playground.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Orange River Elementary School after two female students were debating over who liked a 12-year-old boy more. At that point, one of the girls walked over and kissed the boy – leading an assistant principal to call authorities.

The administrator initially contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families. However, DCF told the school that they needed to call local law enforcement.

"They called us and said they caught two children kissing on the playground," Sgt. Stephanie Eller told Fox News & Commentary. "The reality is it was probably something innocent between two kids on the playground."

Eller said the deputies took a report and documented the incident, but determined no crime had been committed.

"If it had been a crime at all it would have been a simple battery,” Eller said. “The battery consists of the unwanted touching of one person to another."

She said no one was arrested.

Seriously?....School officials are now calling in law enforcement when two kids kiss...?....Seriously?
...This is absolutely ridiculous.

It's really easy to see this and view it as some kind of big pattern or whatever, but I view it more optimistically. The way everyone involved BESIDES the administrator seems to get it is a good thing.

We're on our way BACK from that road.

I certainly hope so man, seems things got blown way out of proportain by the administrators.

Well if you start worrying about it, just picture the dispatcher at the PD answering that call and just pausing for a second, like "seriously?"

Yeah, I'd imagine the dispatcher got a good chuckle out of the call..

" Say again dispatch...did you say Killing?"
" Negative 54..Kissing...smooching...playing tonsil hockey"

Lee county eh? Never been there myself but as a citizen of Florida I can say that this is just one of those things where the cops get called for the stupidest things...

I mean, this in the face of my high school experience where you can't go between classes and not see a couple swapping saliva like it was the last kiss in a Disney movie...

This goes in the books with those people who call 911 when McDonalds runs out of chicken nuggets...

In Canada, Ontairo, the schools there have banned all balls except the squish nerf ones because some 6 year old little girl kicked a soccor ball and it went stray and hit a volenteering parent in the head and when she hit the ground she got a concussion. Sooo one little six year old girl ruined it for generations of kids. In the same provence in some school distrects the kid's are not allowed to run, yell, play tag, congrigate in groups of 4 or more on some school yards.

Are they training the kids for a prision school yard or something? Hell even when I was in prison we where allowed to play handball, football, basketball...so the kids have it harder then prisoners. =o]

No kidding.

That comic for example is based off of a real story.

Summary for those who tldr it: A kid is caught taking their (prescribed) medication for diabetes, and the school authorities (Except for the nurse) were in an uproar over it.

On a tangentially related note (barely), I live in a semi-rural area. There have been a few occasions where it's required for me to call the police for some reason or another, all non-emergencies (I had a smoker stolen off my porch, I once had a credit card stolen and needed to file a police report for the bank, etc). Since I have no local PD, I always call the county cops directly, and they tell me I need to call 911. Since I lived in NYC for the majority of my life I always found this to be disquieting and have been hesitant to so (strictly for life and limb emergencies back home). But indeed, that's how they do it around here.

This seriously makes me want to consider home schooling when the time comes. Stuff like this keeps happening and it's getting worse. These whistle blowing school faculty can go get fekked.

What really ticks me off is it's like they're getting punished for showing affection.

Stuff like this "keeps happening" because faculty and school systems are facing the same issue as law enforcement at this point: society is too triggerhappy when it comes to litigation. By calling in the sheriff, the school avoids being responsible for punishment of the children and avoids any potential responsibility against them by the parents.

Events like this just make me believe more and more that people are stupid. Not a person, a person has the capacity to be stupid or intelligent, but people, like the ones who decided on the school policy that led to this event, they are stupid.
