I completely forgot that I ever watched the first. I guess that's a good way of telling if a movie is truly forgettable or not. I'll still watch this one, looks decent.

I took my nephews to see the first one and they liked it. I personally thought it was decent mindless entertainment. Which is what I expected from it, along the lines of The Expendables and all 3 Transformers movies.
Gotta say I'm surprised Bruce Willis is in this.

This pretty much looks like the first movie, which I thought was alright.

I enjoyed the first mindless romp. I'll probably enjoy this one too. I'm surprised at how many people from the first film didn't come back. Basically they'll get my money for at least this one. And if it doesn't suck then the next one too. Nostolgia sold me on it long ago

I thought the first one was pretty bad, but I'm a fan of the comics. They took a mighty dump on many characters. The Baroness in particular, no longer an independent strong woman, she's only evils because she's been brainwashed, and once cured turns into a bit of a wimp that falls into Duke's arms.

Wow that looks bad, just insanely stupid. Cobra banners on the Whitehouse? Really?

The cobra insignia on the right banner looks lower down than that on the left...

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah, I just can't see that happening. Even if Gi Joe were canned and the President is a Cobra spy - the act of taking down the stars and stripes and effectively putting up swastikas would cause the public to riot. That is one justification for gun ownership right? To oppose oppressive governments?
Unless there's more to the story, like mass brainwashing of the public. Which is what Cobra are known for in the comics.

I approve of the cliff face battle which actually looks like a proper action sequence, though maybe I'm finding CGI harder to spot these days (although no part of me believes the scrap was done at that kind of height for real)
LordofHats wrote:The first movie was horrible XD How'd it get a sequel?
I mean, I suppose its fairly easy to string together a bunch of random action scenes and then throw in some plot but still XD.
In my past career as a cinema manager, I found parents would take their kids to see any old rubbish to get them out of the house (though I've never worked out why as the cinema is basically a big tv, why not just leave them in front of that if you don't want to actively occupy them yourself?). Kids film therefore generally generate a fat pile of cash which consequently ensures that a sequel gets made. Why do you think the Chipmunks got a third movie? Because they're really going for a Oscar nomination this time around?

Bad movies are not synonymous with poorly-selling movies. Why did the Saw series go for 7 films after the second one sucked? Why has Final Destination gotten up to 5 movies, with 6 and 7 planned? Why, as Flashman pointed out, did the Chipmunks get a threequel now?
As long as the movie is well-advertised and has some semblance of a following (fans of the cartoon, fans of the comics, whatever) it'll get money, which is what matters.
Edit: And besides, there was a whole thread about this not long ago on OT - movies that suck, but people love them. As above - Saw and Final Destination are pretty bad film series, but I still went and saw every one of them because I enjoy the series as a whole. I don't give a damn if the movies are bad, they're still interesting and fun to watch.

I think, unless its a movie about a Roman legion, I am going to actively avoid any movie with a numeral in it this year. It will have to be a special exception for me to want to see it.

What about Numerals I and its sequel, Numerals II?

You're complaining about GI Joe movie being silly?
Did you sleep in a miss the entirety of the 1980s? GI Joe is silly. Even the much loved comic, which was a lot more plausible than the cartoon, was incredibly silly.

Numerals I is over rated. Its always hanging out in smoky bars, wearing a beret, and smoking bad cigarettes, calling itself a rebel. Numeral II is my kind of numeral. It breaks out from the pack a little, but all in all it believes in the greatness of tradition.

No I ignored those two. A GI thats not nearly a foot tall is no Gi Joe, just some commie tree hugging puke believing in flower power because he's...short.

Trouble is they've started to get around that by missing off the numeral and giving it an extended title instead.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Transformers: The Dark of the Moon
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chippwrecked
I'd advise extending your exclusion list to cover any film title with a colon in it as well.

Colons shall be banished forthwith! So let it be written, so let it be done.
