Hello everyone! Well time to start a new blog. As the title suggests this will be a pre heresy Death Guard army. Basically no expense spared, everything is Forge World! The idea came about when I was doing a model for the pre heresy SM Conclave run by Smurfwedge. I converted a marine and painted him up as a pre heresy Death Guard.

Here is the final result and some of the wip pics to show you how he was done;

WIP pics;

So that was the model that started it all!

Currently I have the following models for the army;

1 Land Raider Proteus
1 Mk 1c Demios Pattern Rhino
1 Relic Contemptor Dreadnought
Tyberos the Red Wake
10 MK4 Maximus Armour marines
5 MK3 Iron Armour
5 MK2 Crusade Armour
5 Mk2 Assault Marines
5 Mk5 Assault Marines
10 MK6 marines
Character conversion set
Space marine boarding Armour set
10 Phobos pattern bolters
Early Mk space marine heavy weapons
Small brass etch eagles

I have started building and painting the Land raider;

I've not got any further yet with the Land Raider.

I have trimmed up a squad of 10 marines and have made a start on the bases;

I took a squad of mk6 marines from my Emperor's Wings project;

So clearly plenty to be getting on with! Quite a lot of building to do and loads of painting, I always like white models but they are a lot of trouble to paint well! The progress on this army might be a bit slower than on others as I want to do it well considering how much just the models cost!

Any C&C so far is welcome and suggestions to go along with the theme. I'll update when I can, I can't wait to show you the Forge World jump packs! They are things of beauty!

Better to sit quietly and look the fool than to open your mouth and confirm the fact!

I really like the conversion of the helmet in the 2nd one, and I also really like all the old school armor used. The pre-heresy theme is being presented really well.
The painting looks crisp, and good, however the weathering/blood spatter effect is a little OTT to me, but that's just a personal opinion, the actual technical execution seems quite good..

Thanks that model has gone for the charity auction, I don't think I will be using quite that level of weathering and blood. I had just been playing Space Marine on the Xbox and got a bit carried away! I liked that he looked as if he had been slogging through blood and bullets.

Another quick suggestion, all my pics are in the Gallery just click on the photo so you can zoom in. If you like a photo of a finished model or unit, please vote for it. I spend a lot of time on Dakka and like to see what people think of my models!

Thanks Perkustin for stopping by and posting. I wasn't pleased with the nose either but once painted up it improved the look. Never fear I have left the sculpting to Forge World this time, probably won't be any need for my amateur sculpting skills!

I'm very tempted, not sure if my sculpting skills are up to it. I could give it a go... I would like the model that Scribor did, not sure if he is selling it under a different name yet as he was told to stop by GW. He seems to be getting round a lot of that trouble by calling them Sci-fi knights etc. The other thing is that there are no rules for Primarchs but I suppose I would just play him as one of the Heroes from which ever codex I use to play these models.

There is an idea! Which codex should I use? The Death Guard are supposed to be relentless, hardy and durable, any ideas?

I'll have a look at it, I didn't know you could have a whole army of veterans. I'm lucky I suppose that I got people to agree to donate Christmas money towards the latest purchases, it really softened the financial blow. Also I got something cool for Christmas not socks or a scarf! Oh hang on a min I still got two scarfs! Damn!

Wow this is really exciting. Very cool minis bud. I spent a few days working on a Mortarion and Deathguard set and so am particularly interested to watch this army evolve!

I take it you are saying I should just make some house rules up. Personally I prefer to play them as an official codex so I can do tournaments and just say, ok they are blood angels, he counts as Dante etc. but still make it all look really Death Guard.

Thanks Jarra! I watched your mephiston video set and had a look at Mortarion. Great Mortarion model, he is epic! Scythe might be just a tad too big for me. I really like the Terminator guards, they are cool, I'm still considering what to do for terminators for my own project. I noticed when I watched your videos that you make casts of a lot of your stuff, does that mean you can reproduce another Mortarion? I would be interested if the price was right. Great work otherwise and Cruise control is delightfully sick!

Again I think you are talking house rules but I would like to take them to tournaments so they should really be legal.

No new pictures as yet but I have under coated the torsos of the Mk4 squad and hoping to get some paint on today so there should be an update later.

I'll have a think on what to use them as.

Well not a lot done today, did some work on some other projects so a rather lame update I'm afraid:(

That is the 2nd Tactical squad. Still got to fill in some chaos black where the spray didn't quite get into all the corners, done five, five to go!

To return the kind remarks;

I finished reading The Flight of the Eisenstein last week. Were it not for my beloved Emperor's Children, the Death Guard would have been my chosen force!

Really looking forward to seeing this thread grow. You have an absolute gak-ton of FW models to go through!

Yes that amount of Forge World is a bit intimidating and I really don't want to mess them up considering the cost! We'll have to keep an eye on each others progress! Currently reading Deliverance Lost, Corax is quite cool and I'm getting a yearning for Raven Guard too now! Thanks for popping over to say hello.

Woah, almost forgot to put the pic of the first bits of paint going on!

Thanks Hazzer, I had realised, this model was for my other project but stolen for this one. Somewhere I have the sprue that the power axe came from with an earlier MK of pistol.

Ok, a bit more paint on the first marine!

I must say that working on this model I'm not that impressed with the quality. Surprising I know but it has lots of little bits/bobbles/imperfections that I didn't notice when preping it. The back packs were the worst, really badly miss moulded to the point where I am considering talking to Forge world about them. Any way the wife has just got in so there probably won't be any further updates today.

Yep I always work up from black now, I tried working down from white with some Tau and it was excruciating!

Well I've been working some more on the white but after uploading the pictures it doesn't seem like much has changed!

I've got to decide on what to do with the shoulder pads now, obviously Death Guard symbol on one side but what for the other? A typical tactical marking? Index Astartes wasn't written buy this time so I could put whatever I liked on there! not too much detail to see on the only bit of pre heresy artwork I have for the Death Guard.

Ant ideas?

Ok decision time! I need to decide am I weathering these bad boys? I think I should as I have started weathering the land raider but that isn't irreversible. What do you guys think? Pristine or battered?
