Just got around to browsing White Dwarf, and there is a pretty big article on them, including the names of some more C'tan.

Og'driada, the Arisen.
Pyreshards, Sentient Singularity

Tsara'noga, The Outsider
Transdimensional Thunderbolt, Time's Arrow

Yggra'nya, The Shaper
Moulder of Worlds, Writhing Worldscape

Mag'ladroth, the Void Dragon.
Entropic Touch, Sentient Singularity

It goes on to list recommended abilities or them as well. Just thought I'd bring it up, since we now have the names for the Void Dragon and Outsider.

Here are the Others, I know by name they were mentioned in the Dex, so I'll put them up with their recommended abilities

Mephet'ran, the Deceiver
Grand Illusion, Swarm of Spirit Dust

Aza'gorad, the Nightbringer
Gaze of Death, Transdimensional thunderbolt

Iash'uddra, the Endless Swarm
Swarm of Spirit Dust, Writhing Worldscape

Nyadra'zatha the Burning one
Lord of Fire, Pyershards

I did find one piece of Fluff in the article. It mentions that Writhing Worldscape was the signature ability of Yggra'nya the Shaper.

EDIT: Added listed abilities, and fluff for the shaper.

This is interesting, does it go into detail onto their histories and past? Possible models?

No, this is more of a "Tactics" article, it just has a little box with the C'tan names, and then lists the recommended powers for each one.

At least it shows that the Void Dragon, and Outsider haven't been retconned.

Very cool. Just wish they would include the fluff behind the actual C'tans themselves.

GW's trying to slowly write the C'tan out, they won't be giving them the fluff. If anything this confirms that Outsider/Void Dragons have been reduced to shards as well - effectively writing them out of the story.

Which is a shame, as I'm a fan of the fluff. You know, 'ancient star gods go all killy on the masses'.

That said, I fully expect another C'tan shard model to come out, as GW knows we'll buy it.....well, those of us who played The Nightbringer when he was an army unto himself.

So does the recent Cron codex put to bed the theory that the Void Dragon is still imprisoned on Mars and if/when he awakes he'll cause total carnage?

I dont remember reading about any of the C'tan at all except for their roles in the war in heaven that led to them being broken and split into shards. A few names are mentioned but no real fluff behind them and definitely no whereabouts. Which kinda sucks, I liked the idea of the dragon sleeping under mars.. But who knows maybe an unusually large shard is locked within the labyrinth? It would still be incredibly powerful.

If they do have the sahrds why did those necron ships go to mars? or has that been removed from the fluff?

Presumably it would be a C'tan shard that the Emperor imprisoned there.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

The shards however are but a pale imitation of their former power right?
So if he does wake up, its kinda like, "big deal, lets smush him?".

Possibly.

I guess it would depend upon the power of the individual shard in question.

Presumably the ones the Necrons unleash on the battlefield are (somewhat) controllable, one would suggest it's not impossible to imagine a "rogue" or uncontrolled shard, perhaps this is what the Emperor fought and entombed.

Is it just names or is there any shred of background on them?

Also, is it possible to ask for just what recommended abilities go with which one for those players that might want to use an "official" C'tan (but not necessarily able to get their hands on this particular WD for just this sidebar)?

Does it have to be a shard?

So was each C'tan sundered into thousands of fragments ... each C'tan shard was bound within a a tesseract labyrinth P7

Whilst it is true that many C'tan shards are now indentured to Necron service, this by no means accounts for the entire Pantheon. P40

The codex says each C'tan, doesn't say all C'tan. Does it mean Pantheon of shards or Pantheon of C'tan? Couldn't the Dragon have been imprisoned on Mars before the rest were sharded? I suppose not though, the Silent Kings betrayal happened long before there was life human life on Terra. 60 million years is a long time.

Wishful thinking I guess.

Necrons landing on Mars probably won't be retconned. The Necrons still want to gain control over all C'tan shards, so sending someone in to attempt to grab the piece of the Dragon on Mars still works with the fluff.

As far as the current condition of the Dragon and Outsider, there's no reason that they can't be more badass than the average shard. Just say that the Outsider's Dyson sphere is some contraption that's attempting to 'regrow' itself from whatever shard element(s) is available, and that the Emperor's containment system has allowed the Dragon enough freedom that it's been able to sort of get its act together (and/or plant elements of itself within the Martian infrastructure) and if it is ever released, it will have a plan for revenge.

The hilarious part about the C'tan sharding is the fact that the Emperor therefore only fought a shard in Mechanicum -

where it says he only beat it by a hair.

Imagine if he had fought the ENTIRE Void-Dragon!

Entire Pantheon of C'tan. The point of Putting the C'tan into the Tesseract Labyrinths was to make sure they don't reform. It could be a partially reformed Void Dragon under Mars. And while it technically doesn't say "every" most people read it to mean so, because if I tell someone to "put each book away" I expect them to put away every book. I think most people are used to seeing "each and every..." instead of just "each" despite the fact that they mean the same thing.

I wouldn't say most people. It seemed to me, and I know many others, that they were specifically trying to leave room open for there to still be unsharded C'tan out there.

Nothing in the revised Necron fluff explicitly contradicts it; there is no reason to presume it to have been retconned.

At the time of writing, he did. The whole shards business sadly just makes his feat less impressive.

While I love the Emps, personally I think sharding has worked well for his encounter with the void dragon.

He's all kinds of impressive, but the fully powered C'tan are supposed to be able to throw around black holes and blow up stars. I find the idea of the Emperor defeating a shard much more palatable.

I agree, while there is much less fluff about the C'tan in the new book, the little bit about them boosted their power tremendously.

There's plenty of fluff for the void dragon, shame they can't make a model for it. Well actually forge world could do a model but it would have to be about 24'' tall and have a wingspan of around 32''. As well as being 30''long, it'd cost about £1250 or for Americans $2200. New necron apocalypse unit perhaps?

A full C'tan could insta-gib a Emperor class titan with a blink of an eye, having a full C'tan in apocalypse wouldn't make sense. Best to leave them in Fluff

The article also mentions a shard known as ‘The Flayer’ (I don’t have the magazine to hand so cannot write its actual name), and states that it was completely destroyed.

That was already mentioned in the codex, and is the source of the Flayer virus.

With the new fluff it seems that they are worshipping a shard of the Void Dragon. The Emp fought a shard (btw we have no way of knowing how strong this particular shard was) which he barely defeated then imprisoned it on mars. So a shard is imprisoned under mars, not a fully awakened C'tan.
