And here I am again!

I wanted a separate section for my 40K stuff, as I find it’ll be less cluttered if I keep my different games separated out. This will, for starters, be focusing on my custom Marine Chapter based off of the Crimson Fist’s rules (Pedro Kantor and all that), but will be a nice place for me to put my other 40K related stuff as well… we all know how we get sometimes.

I haven’t come up with a name for my chapter of marines yet… but maybe over the course of this blog I’ll finally succumb to something.

But first! Something to test my phone out… and the lighting at work. Fluorescent isn’t the best light source, but it’s alright if there’s a ton of it. As you can see, it’s a slooooow work day if I can sit here and snap pics of my models.

But anyway… this is a starter set terminator that I used for practice before setting on my Legion of the Damned. Sure, blue flame isn’t the most original of things, but as Ice Angel has shown, the blue on black looks really really good!

So here’s a couple shots of him…

I really hate trying to figure out what to paint the front of those box-mags…

I know a lot of people like the roughed up, battle damaged look… but that’s never really been my bag. I think eventually I’ll try weathering a model, but for now I’m still a fan of the crisp, bright sort of look.

Enjoy! I’ll try snapping some more when I get the chance.

That's a very good looking mini you've got there. I dig the bone color epecially, and the hot rod flames are pretty slick. Can't wait to see more!

Thanks SRM! I'm pretty happy with the way the bone turned out for the helmet, I haven't been able to get it that smooth on a model since.

And as a car guy I'm a bit of a sucker for hot-rod flames sometimes... I figure he could double as Legion of the Damned if he had to.

I was checking out your Crimson Fists, and man do those models pop! They look great. I didn't think I'd like the purple for the honor guard's cloaks and tabards but it flows really weel. And those chest eagles look crisp all around, it's a great looking army.

Hate to double-post, but here…

So you can actually see what my Space Marine army actually looks like, I snapped some pics of my favorite model while at work. I want to redo the banner and clean it up a bit, since it has some wash blotches on it here and there.

It’s not exactly the most exciting of color schemes, but I find they look good on the board, and they’re still fun to paint. I’ll snap some squad pictures of my WIP’s when I get home. For now, enjoy the shots!

I dig the simpleness of the color scheme. The base pretty ties the model together. All in all, I think an army of these guys would look absolutely stunning. My only complaint is the green purity seals, but hey its your army!

Yeah, I've heard a couple grumbles about the purity seals.

I just have a strong aversion to Red. After painting a Blood Angel Army and a Sam-haiin (however it's spelled) army for a friend, I'm just incredibly fed up with that color.

Plus I like being different.

Lovely stuff here chemical, Will add to the praise on the flames, they are lovely, and the other guy too, always prefer sspace marines on termy bases, makes them seem much more impressive somehow, look forwards to seeing more.

Edit* Also i have no problem with the green purity seals, i do the same thing on some of my models, red just doesn't go with some colour schemes, personally i think yours look good.

@Swordwind - Thank your sir. Years of patience and self denial went into that paintjob... and a pot of Regal Blue and Ice Blue.

@J-paint - Yeah, that model is just too awesome to keep on a normal base. There's something about the pose, the tank-i-ness of the armor, and the beatin' stick that just make me love that mini.

I snapped some pictures for some other 40K mini's I've knocked out. But they're incredibly random and I was hesitant to overflow my little page with stuff that definitely wasn't my yet-unnamed Space Marine army.

I'll take some shots of my works in progress when I get home this evening! I'm trying to balance between painting the 40K things I have laying about and painting my Infinity models that I've been picking up. I really like the look of the Infinity models, but I cut my teeth on 40K, it's what I grew up with, and I still love the models and the ridiculous world.

Let me dig through my photos and see what else I have to tide you over till then. ^_^

As a holdover till I get home this evening, I have a few snaps of IG chaps that migrated to work with my in my project case yesterday. One started as a Vostroyan sniper who I felt bad for, and ended up painting. Despite my love of ridiculous real life facial hair, I find the Vostroyans a little… silly at times. So he got a scarf from left over green stuff. I had no idea how it was going to turn out, and I was pleasantly surprised when it didn’t look like arse. When riddling through color schemes I had been playing a lot of Valkyria Chronicles… so I painted him up like one of the factions from that game. (Great game by the way.) I like how the gun turned out, even if that isn’t the best color for a sniper rifle.

Bang. You’re dead.

I also had one of the older Stormtroopers that I had snagged before they disappeared. I love these guys, and though the Kasrkins are cool and all, these guys could totally whup em’. I just love this guy’s pose, and I painted him up to use in any single-model gaming situations I might find myself in. I have no idea why I chose this color scheme, it just sort of happened.

Hope that’s enough to hold ya’ over!

Alrighty! So I pulled out my Marines so I can give a little update on what I have so far and where I’m going. I didn’t get to snap pictures of the Dreads or the Land Raider… they’re the biggest models I own and I can’t figure out where I packed them. I’ll have to check the Pelican cases…

Anyway, I have my Terminators, which are pretty much done, so I’ll drop those on here, and then I have a bunch of marines in various states of painting completion. You’ll notice some of them seem to have a shiny, dark brown sort of ink wash on them. Well that was from when I was sitting at a table painting and my old roommate came in, sat down, put her big mug o’ tea on the table, and whatever Gremlins were following her kicked the table legs in and caused the whole thing to collapse. So a few of marines (including my Captain) got the new and improved GW Tea Wash!

I hear it’s the next big thing.

I also have no idea how to get it off…

Anyway… the pics! My apologies, I don’t have any of my lights set up yet other than my painting one. As soon as I get my little booth up I’ll have snazzy new pics.

So, here’s some Terminators.

And one with Flash so you can actually see some color. Yeah, it’s there… somewhere.

And then I have a mixed bag of Sternguard and some other marines. I’m using a handful of the actual Sternguard minis, and then slapped on the Deathwatch bits on some standard marines as the filler Sternguard. Yeah, I was trying to do a ‘quick’ way… and it made sense to me with all their fancy bolters and whatnot. Though those bolters are TINY compared to the newer ones. Still, I like it.

My WIP Chapter Master, standing in for Pedro Kantor. I love the Pedro model, there’s just way too many fists for me to deal with. I might paint him up in my color scheme anyway and have him sitting aside in case someone wants to give me grief for not running the actual model… and I really want to paint it anyway. Still a lot of work to do on this guy… and he also suffered from the Tea-splosion, so he’s a tad shinier than I want.

If someone can tell me why I thought a white cloak was a good idea…

Oh, and a random Sarge!

And for no reason, a Sanguinary Guard I was working on for a friend…

Hope that makes up for the dead zone of me moving! I promise to get some much better shots up when I can find the rest of my lights and a good place to set up. Now I just need to figure out what to paint…

Great looking stuff keep it up ! I like the simpleness of the Marines like the GI you did do to.

Let no man glory in the greatness of his mind,
but rather keep watch o'er his wits.
Cautious and silent let him enter a dwelling;
to the heedful comes seldom harm,
for none can find a more faithful friend

Thanks! I wanted a clean and simple army. Something I could touch up with a bit of gold and accent and look cool, but still be understated and not too terribly flashy. We'll see how 'not flashy' works once I get all the Sternguard done...

I had a lot of fun painting that termie. I don't remember how long it took, I just sat down with a bottle of Regal Blue and a bottle of Ice Blue, and just started adding more Ice to it until I couldn't tell the difference anymore! It was fun, but not something I think I'd like to do for anything larger than a five man squad.

Cool stuff Chem! I'm glad my own black and blue set up meets your approval and got you to paint blue legion of the damned guys. I think that idea is awesome. So here’s the two Marines I’m working on for the GMS (Great Marine Swap). I figure they belong here in my 40K blog as well as over there as well. I was originally going to snap shots as I went through putting them together, but once I get tools in my hand it is incredibly hard for me to put things down, take a picture, and then get back to work. Breaks the flow and all.

That’s the Marine I’m working on for Battle Brother Lucifer. Sternguard chap that’s an old metal Vet model with a modified combi-bolter. It’s originally the Bolter w/ underslung Plasma from the SM Captain’s sprue. I hacked it up a little bit, pulled a relatively clean looking drum from a shoota, and managed (I have no idea how) to shoehorn that sucker in without having the crush the poor chap’s knuckles.

I had left the hand on originally, didn’t pay a lick of attention to it, until I went to put it on and realized I had the WRONG HAND on the thing. Soooo… back to the cutting board.

Now that that’s squared away, I think he’s looking pretty sharp! I might have to go see if I can scare up some more drum-mags for some other guys…

Speaking of…

This is the Marine for IceAngel. Still my favorite sculpt ever. EVER! But he comes with this completely insane bolter, and it’s pointed straight up in the air, leaning against the shoulder-pad like he can’t hold the thing up. Seriously, this gun is bonkers. It makes the stormbolters a terminator carries look like a bolt pistol. I love it and hate it all at the same time. Still, I wanted to use it, and the gun is perfect for a Sternguard Vet. So to the cutting board!

After much sawing, I managed to get it disconnected, and in one piece. And after some judicious pinning, got the thing attached and ready to lay down some fire. Truly, any other model with this gun wouldn’t look right. But this guy has the stance and attitude where it looks like he knows what is going to happen when he pulls the trigger, and he’s totally ready for it.

They would have been primed already, but I went to grab my spray and it sounded like a marble trapped in a can factory. So I’m going to go grab some primer when I get off, and they’ll be ready for painting this evening! We’ll see if I can get some paint on them tonight as well.

The call for me to save the galaxy is just so strong! Hopefully my buddies don’t call me to get on ME3’s Multiplayer, and I should be alright…

Goooooood morning Dakka!

I managed to get a bit focused and started back to work on the two marines for the GMS, for Battle Brother Lucifer and IceAngel. Again, my juggling of saving the galaxy in Mass Effect is hell for my free time, but I’ve been chipping away at things. Still very WIP, but I’ve got some basecoat down and I’ve been hitting the various colors to get things started.

The light has some murderous glare on anything I highlighted out to white. Neither the helmets or paperwork are THAT bright, but under that light they take on some serious glow. That will get toned down when I splash the models later.

Pardon the backdrop, as I’m forced to paint wherever I can find a spot in my current location. At least I finally got all my gear…

So for the glut of pictures!

Couple of those were a little fuzzy, my apologies. I’ll get a steadier hand once the painting gets better… there’s a direct correlation there or something.

Once the box gets here I’ll spend a few hours trying to get it all fancied up and sorted out. But really no point for WIP models right? Now you can see the fine detail and soft lighting of how it ISN’T FINISHED YET.

*cough* That’s how I feel anyway.

Cheers!

I'm a big fan of Ammo drums rather than boxes and clips. The ork shoota drums fit on a standard bolter just fine, but I had to really wedge the one in on the combi-weapon as not to remove the plasma gun's canister. It fit! But barely.

I could imagine fitting together a group of plastic Sternguard with a Command Squad box and some drums.

Many thanks chief. I'm glad you like them.

Truthfully, that sniper shouldn't even be painted. He was a throw-away model that I got because he was in the pack with the other, much cooler sniper.

Now that guy is painted, and the guy I purchased originally is still not done!

Funny how that works.

Aaaalright. I got a nice fresh coat of liquid win (Devlan Mud) over the chaps, to help pull everything together and do some shading for me. I think it’s looking alright.

I’ll likely work on a few of the metals tonight, and start messing with anything else I need to mess with.

That one chap is just covered in parchment. Still looks sharp though.

Aaaand back to the painting.

So I finally broke out of my funk and snapped some pics of the GMS guys I was working on. So rather than ranting, here’s Veteran Sergeant Roreth for Battle Brother Lucifer, and Veteran Sergeant Tek’ar for IceAngel. Both crackshot Sternguard members.

Both of em’ turned out pretty good. I don’t do any scribbles. So I leave that to Ice and BBL. They were fun to paint and got me to stretch my brush again after all the not-painting I had been doing in the past months.

Now to get back to work on the Sternguard for my army!
