I have an ongoing Swap thread and part of it includes these two 'gems' that I got many moons ago as part of an Ebay job lot:
I assume they are Space Marines of some sort, maybe Captains? These are metal. One has what looks suspiciously like a tonsure (a monk's haircut). Unfortunately they are fairly blobbed in paint so detail is hard to pick out. I might keep them and strip them if it's worthwhile.
Can anyone identify these?

The one on the left looks like a Space Marine Scout. The one on the right is probably a regular Space Marine, but its harder to tell.

The one on the left is a Space Marine from about 1989-90. I have one of them. Probably an officer, I don't remember the specific description as it was removed from blister such a long time ago.
If you melt the plastic base off, the slotta will probably tell you something.
I can't recognise the other one.

Yeah, the left model is a captain.
I thought the other one was an apothecary, but I can't place him for sure.
Although I have a sinking feeling that I own that model somewhere.

No way. Look at the chest of the blob guy you own now.
It has a double-headed aquilla on it which didn't come around for quite a while on Marines. So that guy must somehow be much newer?

Ah yes, I see. Odd, as the sculpt itself doesn't look new - it's a fairly crude sculpt (even notwithstanding blobby paint). I will try and get a better shot of it when I get home this evening.

I'm sure I've seen that one on the right before somewhere..
.. hell. I might even have it floating around somewhere.
I thought it was an Inquisitor/Inquisition model but I can't seem to find it on Stuff of Legends, might be confusing it with the Inquisitor Augustus model perhaps.

The shape of the legs on the second mini strongly suggests a very early marine, but the aquila on the chest suggests the opposite. The bolter and small shoulder pads suggest somewhere in the middle.
I would not be surprised if it were a conversion. If you strip the paint, it may not be one mini at all. If it is one mini, it might not even be GW.
ninja'd - also meant to say it might be an inquisitor.

Obscure models from over 2 decades ago .. every time.

I think it's actually the guy on his left -- with the "plasma pistol" -- I've got. pretty certain I've got 2 of those Ordo Malleus models rotting somewhere too.

We could do a fun 'game' in the modeling forum where someone gets to post a classic painted model they own (probably best to stick with Citadel models). Then the next person can only post if they also post a picture of that same model (that they own of course) and then in that same post they get to include another pic of a different classic model.
And the thread would work that way with people posting pics of their old-ass models!
Could be fun and we could see who could 'stump' everyone else with their weird model.
I've got a great (but horribly painted) Thrudd the Barbarian model just waiting for his time to shine!

Would you be able to use the "named" versions of the models like in Filberts post above, or just the rereleased "generic named" sculpts?

Well we could make the rules anything we want, of course.
But I was just saying you post a pic of a classic Citadel model you own (an actual pic of the model you physically own), so the names of the model have nothing to do with them.
And the next person who wants to post in the thread also has to own (and have painted) the same model....and then that person also posts a new model for the next person to try to match.
And so on and so forth.

That was the original Marneus Calgar model. It was released at the same time they did the Ultramarine article in WD - about #99? (including the Half-Eldar master of the fleet!)
I have quite a few of the marines in these releases but not that one., which is odd as I remember really liking it at the time.

Yeah, I knew it was Marneus. Its just so cool, and it actually inspired the most recent artwork that appears in the SM codex.
Sometimes, those older models are just so cool! I came along way to late to grab any of them, but some of them I'd love to have some of them!
