I came out to my car this morning to find that 2 specific cases of my 40K armies were taken. They were unmarked Aluminum cases. The items that were stolemn were: New Necron Codex, CSM Codex, Daemon Codex, Battle Missions, Cities of Death. GW Tape Measure and 3 Dice Cubes. 2 Full Stearnguard Squads (See My Gallery) 2 Scout Sniper Combat Squads, Metal Librarian, Command Squad, Kitbashed Pedro Kantor.

The Otehr Case contained 3 Nurgle Rhinos, 1 Khorne Land Raider and One Khorne Rhino. It also contained a Nurgle Defiler, a GW Metal Nurgle Graeter Damon, and a Converted FW Nurgle Dreadnought. Most of this stuff has an image associated with it in my gallery. I will post pics if needed. I am located in Northern Minnesota on the North Dakota border near Fargo. This was stolen from my car in my driveway. The one time I don't lock my car. I live in a residential rural neighborhood with very little traffic or crime.

I think whoever took this stuff may have known what they were looking for, because I had plenty of other stuff that wasn't taken. Everythign taken was painted to a pretty decent standard. I doubt any of thsi will end up on Dakka, but I just wanted to cover my bases. Thanks for reading.

PS: If returned I will ask no questions. I would just like my stuff back. I have a lot of time into them and they are worth more to me than just their monetary value.

Can you point to the specific pictures in your gallery of the stuff that has been stolen? That might help people tell if it pops up around the net.

I'd agree with whitedragon - pictures on the thread are far better than just descriptions.

Really sad to hear that you had your models taken - your stuff is really well painted :(

Have you checked the surrounding area? Someone may have thought they were gun cases and just dumped them once they opened them up and found models inside.

Put the word out in your local gaming scene for sure. Chances are if he knew what he was after, then some one will hear something.

I will get some pics up for you. I have contacted our one and only FLGS. I also have posted it to a couple blogs and Facebook. I have calls in to all the pawnshops in my area. I will be scouring eBay as well.

I assume you called the police.
And i dont know what kind of insurance you have but if you have good coverage you mite be able to recoup some of the value from an insurance claim.

Looks like you have covered most of the bases - have you reported it to the local police as well? I know you said you would be happy to get it back no questions asked, but it may not hurt just to tip off the fuzz. Plus if it was stolen, the police crime number can be used for any insurance claim you might be able to make.

That put a dampener on my day; I just thought of what what would happen if someone stole my 40k collection. Good luck, I sincerely mean it.

It is very sad to hear that. I would go crazy if someone steals even one mini from me.
Please give us some pics and i think that we can all help at least from the internet search to help you

I have had to move this out of N and R, unfortunately this is a sadly common occurrence and leaving it there could set a precedent that causes us problems in the longrun, I hope you understand.

Post pics in the thread, please. I also encourage you to print pictures and share them at your local store so people can recognize the stuff more easily.

You seem to have grasped the obvious ifstatement lol... Reds8n was being helpful and nice, but when we thought about we realized that it could send mixed signals to te community as we strictly enforce a news and rumors only policy. So we changed our minds about where it goes, and occupy ourselves with finding the best place to put the thread for both the user and the site...

I don't think the sequence of events is confusing or noteworthy...

As mentioned, best thing to do is put pics up here and focus on keeping an eye on ebay and the local pawnshops...

Probably worth filing a police report. Especially if they do pop up at a pawn store or on ebay. Having an actual police report is pretty good proof that they are indeed stolen.

I would also check Craigs List often.

Hate to say it but I don't think those cases were stolen because they had miniatures in them. The thief saw "unmarked aluminum cases" and took them thinking there might be something more valuable (to them) than well painted minis and other gaming paraphanalia. It's unfortunant but I believe your minis and other item are probably on the way to the local landfill as garbage.

As a few others have mentioned I would definately contact the police as this will help with any potential insurance claim you may have to make. I genuinely hope it doesn't get to that but better to have as many bases covered as possible.

Unmarked aluminum cases make people think "jackpot". Gun cases are another popular target.

Positive thinking though, hopefully you get your stuff back.

Definitely file a police report. Not sure how much good it will do since the car was unlocked, though. In my state, when all of my music was stolen out of my car, the police were no help because my car was unlocked in my driveway.

Your car insurance, renter's, or homeowner's insurance may include coverage for items stolen out of your car. Can't hurt to check.

I'm going to go with this too.

I would even go so far as to looking in dumpsters in the local area. The chances are these were probably taken by some chanced walking past. I would bet they would go to the nearest back alley to see what they got, seen it was toys and ditched it.

You could get lucky.

Warhams is a very niche market; even for a superb painter like yourself, I highly doubt that there is a 'criminal element' in the wargaming community that's going to get organised and start stealing mini's to order.

Check local underpasses and wasteland.... could be you stumble on your lost stuff

In the future, ALWAYS lock your car doors when you aren't with it. I'm not saying it's your fault, but that WOULD have stopped this crime of opportunity.

Agreed, especially considering the location, "ooooo guns" was probably the thiefs first thought.

can't say I would agree here. anyone with half a brain and a computer could quickly deduce that he/she/it is sitting on $1200 of nicely painted plastic, especially since they look well taken care of and just committed an illegal act to aquire them.
no one likes going home empty handed, especially a thief looking for a very easy score.

I would further keep an eye on craigslist, any local swap sheet ads/magazines and local flea markets.

Where is your normal wargaming haunt? Twin cities area I assume? FFG event center? Tower Games? etc.

Specifics can help here for locals to try and keep track.
