With THQ looking more and more gutted for money, I'm less and less confident.
I want it to come out, even as a single player game, but I doubt if THQ will survive to do it.

I don't think it is going to come out. With THQ's problems, I am really hoping that EA does not acquire them and release a half built game, or even worse, acquire the 40k license. I'm still mad at EA for what they did to Westwood Studios.

Ugh, so many companies that would be horrible if they acquire the license..
Though a Firaxis produced 40k game would be quite interesting.

Argh in the right hands Dark Millennium (I think...) could be a freaking gold mine for whoever creates and sells it! I mean any avid fan of 40k would jump on the chance to play this, especially in MMO version

I would like a KOTOR style single player game, maybe with a MMO to follow it up.
It could be a story line of a little kid who gets picked up by a chapter as an initiate and follows his adventures from there.
Or it could be 2 story line options, one you become a Space Marine, the other you join an Inquisitor's warband as an acolyte. Maybe with a similer overall story line told from 2 different perspectives. You have to option to turn to chaos(with an alignment meter)or be Mr Nice Guy.

It's not going to be an MMO anymore, so that means hopefully the remaining people onboard can just make a polished single player action RPG. It also means we can actually play it in a year since there won't be a fickle online community going to the next big MMO. I'll be set for MMOs with Planetside 2, and I get a (hopefully decent) single player 40k RPG out of it. Win/win if you ask me.

Yeah, multiple possable story lines depending on your choices with 2 primary storys. 1 about a boy/girl who becomes an Inquisitor and another about a boy who becomes a Space Marine.
The 2 stories could be interwoven together, one with the chapter facing a threat and a choice between the chapter and chaos. Then a choice between Radicalisim and Puritanisim.
You could also be a Psyker too. Become either a Librarian or a Psychic Inquisitorial henchmen.

Since it seems to have slipped under the radar, Dark Millenium while not canceled due to THQs financial status they cut funding and are taking what they had and making it single player.

If there was a good chance that they wouldn't be releasing it, then they wouldn't be wasting time and resources on it right now.
It will come out. The mere fact that they're still working on projects like DoW III and Dark Millennium is evidence that they have high hopes for these games, and will release them and monitor their success before making declarations of shutting down for good.

As much as I would love a 40k MMO, I fear that even if THQ were to reverse course again and give it the green light as an MMO, it would be DOA. Unfortunately, in a market saturated by WoW, most MMOs are mere flashes in the pan.
SWTOR, for example, did extremely well initially, had a smoother launch than WoW, but folks got impatient because BioWare still ran into some rough patches (sorry about the pun) with their launch. Granted, it wasn't any days-long server unavailability like the first days of WoW, but folks were so used to how smoothly Blizzard's titan of a game runs, that they forgot what it was like to be part of a new MMO. SWTOR did lose some subscribers over this, but is hovering around the 1M subscriber mark. Is this likely to go up? Perhaps, but this still only represents 1/10 of WoW's subscriber count.
This is how most MMO launches go nowadays. In the post-WoW world, it's hard to compete in this market. Most MMOs only really appeal to a niche market, or are just so clunky or counter-intuitive that they just don't survive. Look at how big the Star Wars IP is; it's far more recognizable around the world than the 40k universe, hell even the WoW universe, and yet it (SWTOR) was only able to garner around 1M subscribers in its first few months of existance. Only time will really tell if SWTOR can steal more of the MMO market share from WoW, but I'm not all that optimistic.
This is why DM as an MMO is doomed for failure. I, for one, would absolutely LOVE to see it, but I don't think it would be any more than another tiny blip on the radar that would last about a year, then fade into obscurity...

Not to mention the botched Mass Effect 3 endings. I'm fine with endings, but they could have presented them better, and with a longer and more satisfying epilogue.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.
'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.' |

I agree 1000% with this. As much as the IOM is GW's cash cow, I think they need to take an Elder Scrolls-esque approach to races/classes. Restricting the game to IOM vs Chaos only would make the game very one-dimensional, and would alienate many of the potential players who are either adamantly anti- IOM, or who just aren't interested in playing something so narrowly-scoped. Of course, I'd love to play a Tau Fire Warrior, but that's just because I'm biased.

This has been the solution for a long time now. But as much as everyone would LOVE to see it, THQ and Relic have thus far shown an utter lack of intelligence as far as understanding that they are not bogged down with the restrictions that GW has burdened itself with. They don't HAVE to make the game revolve around SMs, simply include them in a lineup of balanced characters.
DMO has the potential to be amazing. It will all depend on how many races are available, as well as how cool their plot is. If SMs are the only class available, I will not buy the game... I've already played that game.

How do you include a line up of characters balanced against marines?
Any normal human can't compare. This alone means if you want to play as a human, you lose almost all options.
Marines fluff wise are so ridiculous that trying to find something playable that can match them is quite the challenge. If they were to make it "elder scrolls" a much much better option would be to balance it more around guardsmen instead of marines. This lets people make any kind of human they want. From all kinds of backgrounds. It lets orks and tau and eldar be playable without the character having to be a warboss or exarch. Basing it around your more "average" characters will allow more encounters in the game to feel epic as well. The first time a guardsmen has to fight a chaos marine could be amazing.
However from what I saw of DMO over the past few years and with the new single player version of it being more an attempt to salvage the game than make it anew. We will be playing as Nobs, and Marines.

Instead of having one, have hundreds of marines.
The inverse ninja law will kick in, it's how the tau killed in Firewarrior killed a ton of them and space marines.
Even in the fluff it seems mostly like this, a few marines = Destruction of an entire waagh! Hundreds = Splattered by dark eldar/tau/necrons.

They can easily have the game be balanced with Marines in it.
They just need to be incredibly tough opponents that will be extremely difficult to take down without proper gear.
The players character will obviously have access to eapons capable of killing marines, but it will still be a fairly difficult challange.
If the player is a Marine then normal low level opponents will only be a threat in large groups or when equipped properly.
NPC marines will obviously be extremely rare opponents unless you end up being a marine yourself in which case they will be more common.
The player who goes the Marine route will be fighting off a Chaos invasion with your chapter/company while if you are an Inquisitorial agent you will be fighting Chaos from the streets of various planets and Marines won't show up till the very end of the game.
NPC Marines should be extremely dangerous opponents, even on the easiest difficulty level a Marine will be a nightmare to face.

Yeah.
It would be a cool and balanced function if all lasguns could be overcharged for a more powerful shot but it can damage the gun. So even a basic guy could threaten a marine at the risk of losing his weapon.
I am thinking a cover system would be needed too.
This game would probably be best if it played like a FPS with RPG content, like TES games.

Well personally I'd be fine if there were no SMs in the game. That makes the most sense fluff-wise since SMs are so outrageously few in number compared to the other races. But that won't happen.
Luckily, every faction has infantry which rivals SMs.
For IG? Assassins, Ogryn, Commissars
Any Eldar Aspect Warrior
Any DE
Various Tau battlesuits
Any SoB
Any Necron
Ork Nobs
Any Tyranid larger than gaunts
Come to think of it, There's not much that a SM can truly overpower under any circumstance, (despite what grossly exaggerated SM fiction might lead some to believe.) Automatically Appended Next Post: Grey Templar wrote:This game would probably be best if it played like a FPS with RPG content, like TES games.
Or like Borderlands, only with a cover system and a 3rd person point of view option!
