Interesting new company (or at least sculptor) popped up, creating some decent looking minis. Some of them are obvious "Not"-minis though

http://miniaturesofthenorth.blogspot.co.uk/
What is Miniatures of the North?

Plain and simple: a blog charting my own personal sculpting endeavours.

Production rights need to be finalised so right now there is no solid time frame for release, but rest assured, production is not far off!

MOTN scale
28mm/30mm, heroic, true, to the eyes, top of the head... you decide.

Parts
To ease casting and cut cost, arms are sculpted in place whilst the rifles have hands attached to them in a universal scale fitting, affording weapon swaps across all miniatures. Heads are all loose as are any backpacks.

As a standard, 6 different poses will be made for each design/faction.

House Crowmantia - first look
Oppressed and taxed to the extreme by the Tzar, House Crowmantia's city state is a smog shrouded environment of industry and labour where the population is forced to wear heavy duty overalls and hoods as a means of protection. In this nightmare of subjugation Occult forces have flourished and empowered a generation of freedom fighters with new found sense of identity, and their lust for civil war has become fuelled by sinister dark forces.

Below are the first 3 of 6 Crowmantian troopers wearing ceremonial armour.

Imperial Borderers - first look
Imperial Borderers are recruited from the endless farmlands and vales between the Alpha Cities of Helot Prime. In the time of civil war these countryside provinces have become nightmare battleground of foetid trenches and smashed bunker complexes, where the Borderer regiments repel constant assaults from house Crowmanita and their Occult allies.

Below is the first of 6 Imperial Borderers.

Stock Parts
Here are a selection of the resin master parts being used on the first ranges being developed: some of the heads are intended to be robotic in nature.

Torso's are being used to maintain uniformity in scale on single part miniatures, however there is a chance everything will be available as parts in the future (head, weapon, torso and leg sprues).

Fallen Dwarves WIP
More to follow on these in the near future, these will be the first fantasy release for MOTN.

Fallen Dwarf Phalanx front rank (2 of 4 mini's)

Mini's are single part with loose shields and weapons (connection occurs at the wrist, hands will be sculpted on weapons)

Some of the resin master torso's. Big hat mini's will appear.

I like all of it. No real use for the humans right now, but might be able to fit some of those dwarfs into something, really like them.

Those House Crowmantia are really nice, can see me buying some of those. Price should be good if they are produced in Trollforges Troll Cast!

They all look nice. Those dwarfs may be decently sized for LOTR/WOTR as well. Resin spears make me scared, though.

What do you do around real ones?!

I could see using those House Crowmantia for making a new cultist army.

The not-kriegs seem like they are scaled to small for GW though, legs seem to thin. Appear closer to true 28mm than heroic.

They could be the same size as FW's IG minis. Those are a world apart as well.

Wow, this could be the nicest of the "not-Kriegs" I've seen thus far. Not quite as nice as the actual FW Kriegs, but way better than any greatcoat human infantry I've seen from any other company. Will have to look into these guys a little bit closer...

Any idea on what these might cost, or a time frame for potential release? I couldn't find anything on my (admittedly cursory) look over the blog page...

Wow, both of these look fantastic mate. I know your masters are resin, but is it safe to assume the final products will be as well?

I've looked on Troll Forged's forums, and it seems that Troll Forged is going to try their awesome new plastic spincast technique to make these miniatures.

Seems interesting and worth watching for sure.

The hooded guys are great. I'll be using them as more legit/better equipped Redemptionists, or House Cawdor guards for Necromunda- not the rabble underhive but proper badass Cawdor patroling Hive City territory.

Every time I see an IG substitute next to a Cadian, I hate the Cadian miniatures even more. They need to be purged for mutation- fething misproportioned giants.

They look good but a far distance separated from actual FW krieg in terms of detail and posing. The price point on these would have to be much lower than FW in order for me to consider buying.

Making guesses on price here.

Troll Forged took the Alien Brain originally $16 and made it in Trollcast plastic for $10 each:
http://trollforged.com/shelf_sci-fi_Aliens.html
...or even as low as $6.67 in bulk:
http://trollforged.com/shelf_sci-fi_box-sets.html

Now we have Ice Sword's original Trenchers and Greatcoats:
http://trollforged.com/shelf_sci-fi_Trenchers.html
http://trollforged.com/shelf_sci-fi_GreatCoats.html
They go for about $3.50 each in metal or even as low as $2.25 each in bulk.

Assuming the high price of $3.50 of Ice Sword's older casts, but converted into Trollcast plastic, we can expect something lower, maybe? Considering Troll Forged can sell the plastic at $1 for 1 in bulk, it may be very affordable for everyone:
http://trollforged.com/shelf_fantasy_box-sets.html

Conversation here:
http://trollsforge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wip&action=display&thread=1412&page=29

All in all, I'm sure it won't be ubercheap just because they're awesome sculpts that'll be checked for errors, etc. I also don't know the relation of Miniatures of the North and Trollforged, but I've bought from Trollforged in the past and they've been excellent.

I'm comfortable that these models will be at a great price point that'll make everyone happy.

EDIT: My guesses are just guesses from being an internet stalker of Hive Trygon and Icesword. Not meaning to undermine anyone. I'm doing it out of love.

I'd be interested in seeing a comparison shot between those Dwarves and a couple LotR Dwarves, they might just be away to get reasonably priced vault wardens.

Yes I'm MOTN, or should I say: MOTN is my brand.

Troll Forged has a release schedule 10 miles long so these won't be going that route. I've been literally blown away by Joel at Anvil Industries casting ability so a licensing agreement is being negotiated and they will be done in resin by Anvil!

Still not 100% firmed up yet (only 99.99%), but it's a done deal. More to follow soon. Lots of miniatures still to showcase these are just the start.

The first 6 of the Borderers are complete, awaiting photos, then off to Anvil for mold making.

I didnt want to jump the gun, but I can confirm that subject to hashing the details out, I will be casting these new miniatures for MOTN, and Im very excited about it!

I previously cast all the master components used in the assembly of these miniatures.

I fell in love with the dwarfs when I saw the first green photos and in the flesh they are even nicer!

The miniatures will be available to pre order as soon as IceSword gets the masters to me, and casting will take a week or two at most.

There has been some discussion of the pricing. This cant be figured out untill Ive got a better idea of the production costs, but I am confident we will be able to bring them to the market at a superbly good value price!

Cheers,

Joel

Outstanding. These guys are so awesome and having read the blog I can really see the Napoleonic influence now. As an avid fan of Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series and having done some of my degree on that period I'm excited by it and ashamed not to have noticed earlier. Also, I don't think you could have found anyone better than Joel to cast these. I've only made a couple of purchases from Anvil, but the quality has been top notch on every item and the Customer Service is awesome.
