Put simply, I'd like to start a group for playing one of the WH40K RPGs by Fantasy Flight Games. Any one is okay, but I have a fondness for Dark Heresy.
Ideally we'd play here in the forum, post-by-post and using Dicelog for dice rolls.
I'd prefer not to GM, as I've failed horribly at it before and I really didn't enjoy it.

EDIT: We're also looking for someone who'd like to GM for the foreseeable future, as no-one really wants to do it for very long. Please post and let us know if you'd like to GM for us.
All's well, motyak is graciously wanting to take on the role.

I have never played DH before but I have the main rulebook, and I would be keenish to play, but I will not be GM

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun

You are an Australian. This means that the post times won't be at 2 in the morning. I want in. So very, very badly.

Unfortunately, while Dark Heresy does interest me, I haven't had a chance to play a game (my book is gathering dust. Don't judge me for my impulse buys dammit!). This means I wouldn't be much help GMing it either. But I want to play. Shotgun a place.

I'll gladly join a DH play by post.

I'm tired of being the GM all the time, so I'd really like to be a player again.

I would be interested though I'd have to pick up the book. Never tried it before and so couldn't help with the GM part.

I occasionally GM Dark Heresy, but I have a character whom I've established extensive background on and would really like to test out, so I'd rather not GM, if possible.

That's the only one I completely know the rules for, so I could play the others (though I have little interest in Black Crusade) but couldn't GM.

Well if no one will, I could have a crack at GMing. I've never done it before for DH (done it once for DW), but if we did a scenario from the book first, before doing our own, I'm a quick learner...

That is what I would prefer-- a low-level dark heresy game.

Remembering I haven't done it before, it will need to be a relatively easy first few missions.

And someone else will GM next time (if there is one) so I can get some sleuthin' in (and killing to I guess, if it all goes tits up)

So would we be happy to use (just for the first, say, two) the scenarios in chapter 13 of the Main Rulebook?

If you all want to start making characters and PMing them to me/posting them up on this thread, then that'd be great. A wee bit of backstory is desired, I don't need a novel, just a few lines, upbringing, how you were recruited, one or 2 things you have done pre/during your life as an acolyte.

Feel free to buy from the Armoury (it says you need my approval, so I will allow you to partake of the armoury).

Any other questions feel free to PM me or wack them up here. I'm off to the bush from Wednesday (god bless the ekka) to Thursday, so don't expect replies then

Ha I'm reading through the GM chapter of the book (haven't really had cause to before now) and I can't stop chuckling at the Blues Brother reference in one of the titles.

Thats not constructive to the thread at all, just wanted to share.

But if someone else volunteers to GM, I have a guardsmen who wants a crack at the enemies of humanity. But that seems unlikely, so he'll have to wait...

Dibs on Arbitrator - I'll put his character sheet up in this space in a bit.
Nix that. I'm going for Tech-Priest, now.

PS: The thread now advertises our lack of a long-term GM, in case someone who wants to fill the post sees it.

PPS: Also, I assume we can pick and choose all the statistics (including stats, home world, etc.) except for Wounds and Fate Points. motyak, please let me/us know if you'd like to run it differently.

Sweet. As temporary (and hell, who knows, I might develop a taste for mad power) GM, it would be best for a variety of careers, but I am perfectly fine if two people want to be guardsmen, and one is a Inquisitorial-stolen Jantine Patrician, and one is a Tribal Warrior, that is cool, would be nice and fun. But I don't want two hard-nosed amasec-swilling shotgun-toting arbites with the same backstory. So if we have a hell-crooked arbites and a holier-than-thou arbites, that could be ok, just no people too similar please.

On a related note, what does SP mean? i.e. Weapon Training (SP).

Ah. in regards to the picking, feel free to choose...NOTHING! THATS RIGHT! RANDOMNESS FOR ALL, ESPECIALLY YOU MELISSA!

I'm kidding.
Players are free to choose; Home World.
You can't choose stats, but you get 2 re-rolls and you can choose whether or not to take the re-roll (And do it with the 10 times, it limits the number of unlucky rolls. If there is mass outrage at this, I'll consider 3 re-rolls). However, if you have a character well worked out in your head, and the stats just flat out don't work, PM me with what you rolled, and what you would have preferred, and we'll discuss it (no promises, but if you were shooting for a sniper (ha-ha-ha) and rolled a 1,1 on your BS 10 times, and then on the re-roll, we'll work something out, but it'll cost you...probably other characteristics)
Free to choose; Career
Roll for wounds and fate points and starting wealth.
Free to choose; Name, type of homeworld/tattoos/ship tradition
For divination, you roll as per normal, but you can choose the one above or below the one you roll if it better suits your character (let me know both what you roll and what you change it to, just for forms sake)

Any other questions

Oh yeah, and 400xp sounds good

SP is Solid Projectile - Stubbers, shotguns and so on.

You mentioned buying from the Armoury - Acolytes don't usually start off with money (IIRC), so how much money and how much XP do we start with (the norm is 400XP, for reference).

PS(again, derp): The method for choosing stats is outlined in the Rogue Trader corebook, and produces slightly higher-than-average stats. I'd like to wait for your all clear, motyak, as only one person using it would unbalance the party and all of us using it might unbalance the prewritten adventures.

I thought they started with money...pages 28 and 29? I'm sure that says they start with money. You'll have to roll for that though.

And thanks on the SP think, I was thinking 'shot and powder' or something, but that didn't make sense...thanks a lot

You know what? You can drop the GM seeking line from the OP, I'm happy to do it, the more I read about it the more fun it seems. Besides, I really enjoy making up stories and what not, this lets me make up stories I can then run minions through. Not that you guys are minions. And we will still start with one or 2 basic missions, and from there we'll see how we go. I may buy a supp book if I'm loving it.

And I can't wait for your arbitrator. Just don't call him godwin

And in regards to the stats issues; I can't see how it would unbalance the prewritten adventures, seeing as they come in the same book, but worst comes to worst, and you guys nail the first mission with your eyes closed, we can just edit them/edit the missions

So use the method in the book (2d10+your world type benefit correct?) and if theres an issue we'll cover it after the first mission

Oh, and rounding the way I learned in school (I don't know if its different in america). so 11.9 is a 12, 11.4 is a 11.

I think we're talking at cross purposes here.
I'm talking about the point-buy stat system found in the Rogue Trader corebook (and not, AFAIK, in the Dark Heresy corebook) where you take 25 across the board, and then allocate a total of 200 points to them (but not more than 20 in any single stat).
Are we allowed to use that? The RT corebook does warn that the stats produced are slightly higher-than-average, but it's a drastically more predictable and easier way to roll up your stats.

Also, feth yes. Thanks for taking on being a GM - I'm well aware of how hard it can be to work around nosy and bumbling players.

And finally, that's how I round up and down as well.
x.0 to x.4 inclusive rounds down to x, and x.5 to x.9 inclusive rounds up to x+1.

Oh, I don't have the RT book, I was talking Dark Heresy. The DH way seems like a good way to do it, and the increase in re-rolls that I'm giving will stop there being any really fethed up results, that and the averaging 10 rolls, which is easy to do with the dice one you suggested in the OP

Using that site you recommended, you can churn out stats in a few minutes, its pretty damn good. Quite predictable (hard to get really solid outliers) and very easy. We'll roll with the DH way instead of the RT way, simply because I don't have the RT book sorry.

You know, there's several books that provide scenarios you can use, including one in the core rulebook for a starter group.

For my part, I plan on playing either a scum or an assassin, based around this image:

The highest you can start off with naturally is 51, and that's if you roll double tens and go with a forge world adept....

Wait a minute.
Oh damn. I've rolled d20's instead of d10's. I did wonder why my stats were so high. I'll reroll them correctly this time.

Okay: After many, many mistakes and misunderstandings, I have finally found a career that would suit my statline - does anyone object to me taking Assassin with a close-combat build?

It's alright, I can probably take something else. The problem is taking a class that compliments your stats, otherwise your character will die in the first few games from misuse.
