Hi all, so, I'm trying something new out. I'm plagued by unpainted minis, and have trouble finishing projects in one go, so, I'm going to try and see if a painting blog will keep me honest.
With the two waves of Sedition Wars, I'll be getting around 100 minis, that I hope to finish within a month of the second wave being released; I'm hoping I can get the first 70 or so from the first wave done well before the second comes out, so I won't have a backlog. This is on top of painting commissions, illustrating a graphic novel, and regular old freelance work.
So, getting things rolling, with the first bit of paint on my Vanguard, and a test model.
(I'll be putting these all on my hobby blog with a bit more info, too: http://spiralingcadaver.blogspot.com/2013/01/bug-hunt-sedition-wars-vanguard-test.html )

Next update...
(more words here)
I decided to give the heroes a little more time and not do them with the bulk painting, so that update will need to wait...
I'd say my favorite infantry sculpts were the Reaver and the Grenadier.

I commented on your work on the sedition wars forums. Still loving it. Glad to see you post it here aswell! Still loving the highlights. Can't wait to see what you do with the characters(and the strain for that matter). I think the helmeted female is the weakest of the sculpts. It's not a bad sculpt. Just looks out of place amongst the other sculpts.
By the way I'm stealing the way you paint your bases!!!!

Yeah, I like that Dakka is a kind of all-purpose site; where it makes sense, I like to cross-post here.
I agree that the female/unhelmeted sculpt is the least consistent with the rest of the line: trendy bangs are probably not the most utilitarian.
I've already got my first Strain mini mostly painted, though I'm not sure it's quite right, yet...

Thanks!
So, I had a bit of time here and there, so I managed to get out a test strain model.
I'm not entirely satisfied with the look, though, so I'd like feedback if you've got any advice (or if you think it works). I've written a bit about my thought process on my blog.
Thanks in advance, for any tips!

I'm pretty happy with how this group turned out, decided to go for a rougher feel and some alternate colors. ( Link for more info, and a bit of a review.)

Again, they look great dude. The subtle lie glow looks really good on the strain. Something I'd not considered but it works well and suits their techo-zombie vibe. Cool looking vase aswell. The light source painting works really well. Definitely gives mood to the character. Is it just the hero character left now?

Thanks!
Not quite just the heroes.
I've got
the heroes plus all of the promo minis (the only stuff I didn't pick up was the terrain and the heavy suit)
the biohazard small units (6 drones, 6 scorpion things) that are coming in the second wave
the strain phase 4 & 5 beasties
IIRC, it actually comes out to around 35 more minis...

Thanks! Regarding consistency, batch painting is the best (and least fun) way of doing it. I'm doing a chaos army soon, and these guys were a trial run of sorts.
Regarding clean, most of it's experience, I guess, but this was the first army I painted with only white undercoats. I've found that I can get a way more consistent base color with white than black, and am probably going to only use black undercoats on ongoing projects. It's to the point where I'm selling off smaller forces I've painted so I can start over in white.

I'm pretty happy with how Akosha came out. Maybe a little exaggerated, but I'd never tried red OSL before.

Looks really stealthy. I think the osl works nicely and isn't to heavy. Who needs 'lights out' anyway???

Wow... great job on all the minis, but this one in particular...
I've always wanted to try this on a miniature (in particular, a grimdark Batman I'm making). Your Akosha just sold the "under-light" look that I've been mulling over for some time.

Thanks! Yeah, also a big fan of Batman (the animated series may be the best kids' show ever made, and there are a number of great stories in the comics).
I imagine Batman'll look pretty awesome with under-lighting, and be more forgiving than Akosha on his face (really hard to do harsh lighting on a female face w/o it looking funny)

Wow these are awesome, is this a boxed set game? I've got a few sedition wars blisters, they're quite nice. On-par with Infinity sculpt quality, and your excellent paint job has really brought them to life!

@Cave_Dweller, Thanks! Yeah, with the exception of the helmeted Kara (limited edition), those are the boxed game minis. All I've got left from the core game is Barker (the weapons specialist) and, I think, the big 4 strain beasties.
Yeah, having painted infinity, these are slightly less subtle than their most recent stuff, but definitely of the same calibre.
@Novelist47, probably because of the combination of rounded/organic/form fitting armor and a bunch of colors that don't appear in nature very much, also, a lot of eldar players seem to go for the glossy look (I know I did, back when I played them). I hadn't thought about that, but definitely agree.
Re: strain, thanks, yeah, the official scheme is impressive, but I liked mine looking extra organic and gross, thanks

Right now I've got my Vanguard sorted into fire teams to be color coded. I did my lights out pack already, really love how they took the washes. I did all of my phase 1/phase 2 strain mostly with a dirty nasty look. When I do the bases in the future I'll post them up for you to check out.
