Those guys look like gak but given the huge range of models available I assumed people would actually collect them...well perusing on ebay (my new hobby it seems) I can't help but notice that Catachans are going for much lower prices than Cadians. So it got me thinking, who actually collects Catachans?

Don't like either of 'em. For me it's Vostroyans (of which I have a Firstborn Squad and two Officers) or Steel Legion (which I was about to get but the store via which I was ordering wasn't sure if they can even be ordered due to some funkiness with the GW shopping cart when you put Steel Legion stuff there).

I do have 60 plastic catachans... But they were bought back when they first came out and were thought to be the only guard army for the forseeable future.
Now I only bring them out for Apocalypse type games as literal cannon fodder.
Normal games, I still use my trusty Mordian Iron Guard

If there were all being sold as plastic kits I would have gone for a Mordian army. Even would have rocked the Praetorians, but am happy with the Cadians. I almost feel that the Catachan should just be an elite choice since that are basically based on 80’s action heroes and I always think of one guy or a small group taking on an army, not an army of them.

The plastic Catachan Command kit is actually really good, and much better scale than any other GW IG kit (and it should, it's the newest IG infantry one as far as I know) It's probably the only kit I'd still buy new from them. The massive amounts of bitz you get in that kit are just staggering. However, all of the other Catachan kits are hideous. Cadians are just bleh all around, but i have more of them. To be honest, once I sell off all the Cadians, I'll keep my catachans (because they're more interesting and have a cool paintjob) and anything that I add to my army will be from Victoria Lamb. I love metal models for gaming, so I guess it makes sense that I would lean towards them. I'm also hunting down metal models of all the old metal regiments like the Mordians, Tallarn, Steel Legion, etc. I voted Catachan because believe it or not I will actually buy more Catachan models in the future. Can't say the same for Cadians

With the bat gak levels of insane that was the BA mini codex at the time, I quit them and went Catachan when the Deathworld Codex came out.

What little Imperial Guard I have are Cadians for the majority of troops and orange catachans for Penal legion. You would expect penal guys not to be given helmets, armour, etc and all be muscles and crazy. Just my thoughts on it.

I have a mix of both. My Cadians are all painted basically the same, tan with brown and green highlights. My Catachans are a bit more individualized because they are more different. All my cats I have gotten for less than regular price my cads have all been regular price.

I have few standard Catachans, but not many. I mostly use Cadians - but I do think that the Catachan Command Squad is a very good kit with some quality bits.

I still buy some Catachans occasionally. I have a few hundred of them for my dream of a Catachan Regiment (only the 1st Battalion exists – and it’s not all painted).
I have a few Chimera’s, Sentinels, and Tanks for its Armored Company.
#1
I also – Have a Necromunda Regiment [about 300 of the Original –Necromuda Plastics (40) to a box and Metals]. (eggshell Sentinels were cool once upon a time – and the Guard – did have Rhinos!).
I do not care what anyone says – they were not the first Cadians I dislike the Cadians, but I have lots of them.
#2
I have a Steel Legion Company + (6 platoons of regulars, 1 Platoon of Weapons Squads, 6 Sentinels, a few tanks and Chimeras).
#4.
Techguard Petwers mixed with Cheap Cadians – I have about 60 of the plastics and 30 metals for the Omnissiah.
Others -
Chaos IG – This is a collection of all the off casts I have gathered from Valhallans, Mordian Guard, Cadian metals and lots of CRACK RESIN forgeworld traitors. These are dual purpose for my Chaos marines supporting efforts.
Lugft Hurons IG Supporters – I recently got my Badab books. I’m looking at building a few platoons of these to support my Astral Claws (5 Squads) to be a pre-heretical Corsair chapter and or re-fight (and win) the Badab War. – Looking at Cadians here simply because the Necromunda Plastics/Metals I love are too expensive to collect.

I bought a pair of boxes when they were still £12, but they're far too obsolete to be part of the current range now. I suppose GW still makes money on the existing boxes to bother retiring them (or cares to create the right PR to do so).

Catachan were a let down from the word go. I never understood why they made them into plastic vs any of the other 2nd edition regiments.
I do own a few metal sculpts. I like using them as veteran types, but an army based on them.... no way!

I have 2000pts of catachans. The army is almost entirely infantry. 3 sentinels and two vendettas, otherwise all infantry! I have a mixture of old metal catachans, the first lot of plastic catachans and some of the catachan command squad. I don't have a big problem with the catachan models. Some of the heads on the plastic ones are a bit goofy but hey. I have also made conversions of all three special characters. The only think that matters about an army is if the person who owns it is happy with it. If people who are happy with their catachan armies are in a minority, so what. As long as we are happy with them!
